Ο Διεθνής Αγώνας Κλασσικών και Παραδοσιακών Σκαφών Σπετσών ( Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta , SCYR) ιδρύθηκε το 2011 και αποτελεί, έκτοτε, τον δημοφιλέστερο αγώνα στο είδος του στην Ελλάδα, αλλά και έναν από τους σημαντικότερους στη Μεσόγειο. Διοργανώνεται κάθε καλοκαίρι, συνήθως τον μήνα Ιούνιο, από τον Ναυτικό Όμιλο Ελλάδος και τελεί υπό την αιγίδα του Δήμου Σπετσών και με την υποστήριξη του Ναυτικού Ομίλου Σπετσών .

Η διοργάνωση θεωρείται, πλέον, θεσμός για την ελληνική, και όχι μόνο, ιστιοπλοϊα, με τις ιστιοδρομίες κλασσικών σκαφών, καϊκιών και λατινιών να προσφέρουν μεγάλες συγκινήσεις και πλούσιο ανταγωνισμό στους συμμετέχοντες αλλά και στο πλήθος των τουριστών που συρρέουν στο νησί. Οι σημαντικότεροι εκπρόσωποι του σπορ, τόσο από τον αθλητικό, όσο και από τον επιχειρηματικό χώρο, από την Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό δίνουν κάθε χρόνο το «παρών», με πάνω από 75 σκάφη και 400 μέλη πληρώματος.

Ο ιδιαίτερος αυτός αγώνας εξυμνεί τις αρχές και αξίες της ευγενούς άμιλλας και του ευ αγωνίζεσθαι, με τους θεατές να έχουν την ευκαιρία να θαυμάσουν σπάνια σκαριά από την Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό και να απολαύσουν υψηλού επιπέδου αγώνες ιστιοπλοϊας, σε μία πραγματική γιορτή του ναυταθλητισμού και της ξυλοναυπηγικής τέχνης.

Παραδοσιακά Καΐκια Κομβικό σημείο του Αγώνα παραμένει η διεθνής καινοτομία του να αγωνιστούν κλασσικά σκάφη, ελληνικά παραδοσιακά καΐκια και λατίνια ταυτόχρονα σε έναν ιστιοπλοϊκό αγώνα. Μερικά από τα πιο φημισμένα καΐκια της χώρας, όπως η Φανερωμένη, η Παναγιά της Τήνου, η Αλκυόνη, ο Αίολος Σπετσών, ο Νότιος Ανεμος, η Αφρόεσσα, ο Στρατής, η Μαρίδα, ο Αγ. Γεώργης που έχουν ναυπηγηθεί στα παραδοσιακά καρνάγια του Περάματος, της Σύρου, της Κοιλάδας και των Σπετσών έχουν συμμετάσχει στον μεγαλύτερο αγώνα κλασσικών σκαφών στην Ελλάδα. Ο Ναυτικός Όμιλος Ελλάδος, ως διοργανωτής του αγώνα, απέδειξε ότι τα ξύλινα καΐκια αποτελούν ισχυρό μαγνήτη με την ομορφιά και την λιτή πολυτέλεια τους. Στενά συνδεδεμένη με την ναυτική παράδοση του νησιού των Σπετσών, η διοργάνωση αναδεικνύει σε μια δύσκολη εποχή εκτός από τις αξίες του αθλήματος της ιστιοπλοΐας, την ξυλοναυπηγική τέχνη η οποία δεν έχει εξαντλήσει το εισιτήριo της επιβίωσής της στο μέλλον.

Ο αγώνας είναι μια γιορτή όλης της αισθητικής ομορφιάς που συγκεντρώνει η Ελλάδα, καθώς   χρησιμοποιεί ως φόντο ένα όμορφα διατηρημένο ιστορικό νησί με ναυτική και ναυπηγική παράδοση, η οποία είναι απαράμιλλη στην περιοχή της Μεσογείου. Ο αγώνας Σπέτσες Classic Yacht βασίζεται στη συνένωση τόσο διαφορετικών αλλά ταυτόχρονα και τόσο συμπληρωματικών στοιχείων που καθιστούν το νησί των Σπετσών ιδανικό για μια τέτοια διοργάνωση.

Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta

International Spetses Classic Yacht Racing Week ran for the first time in 2011 from the 30 September to the 2nd October and was organised by The Yacht Club of Greece.

This is a regatta for classic yachts that sail backwards and forwards across the Peloponnese Channel - otherwise known as the Kosta strait. Many boats arrive from all over Greece and Aegean Classic Schooners (known as Caiques) race alongside the classic yachts. There are some island participants too, recognisable by their Spetses flag, with the red insignia 'Eleftheria i Thanatos' (Freedom or Death) with a cross, anchor, snake, spear and bird.

October 2011's event was a precursor - a little taster of what was to be in store for the coming years! It was organised in honour of the Spetsiot seafarers, who fought in the 1821 Greek Revolution.

It has been a magnificent event over the past 4 years and has therefore now been put on the annual Spetses calendar for the month of June.

Both 2012 and 2013 were a great  success with the fair weather in June. The number of  participants has increased  each year with some of the most beautiful classic Greek boats and Aegean Classic Schooners taking part. The Sea Scouts also, on their wonderful Lateens, with their triangular sails set on long yards mounted to their masts.

June 2014 and June 2015 were both a resounding success with a record number of vessels taking part and there are now four categories: 

Classic Boats (with three sub-categories Vintage ( – 1947) Classic (1948 – 1974) Spirit of Tradition (1976 – ); Traditional Caiques ; Lateens and the Dragons  (2014 being the first year for this category).

Glory days for TEAM EXLence at the Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta 2023

TEAM EXLence, with the 1952 built classic 5.5mIC LIZZA, thrived at this years’ SCYR. Skippered by Stavros Papagiannopoulos and with Rio Olympics bronze medalist, Takis Mantis, on the tactics and Yannis Mitakis trimming the sails, the team started the regatta with a 2 nd place behind S/Y Cassiopeia, by 2’21” on a 4 hours long race. On the second day of racing however, we bounced back with a bullet, leaving behind the runner up, 8mIC S/Y Flamingo by 5’10” on a 1 hour 30’ race, thus winning first place overall on the SCYR 2023.

“One needs to be very careful when racing these classic boats on heavy winds and high seas. Although we started off day one with very light winds, the wind picked up after we were one third into the race and the seas became very confused. We managed to navigate through not only without damages on the boat but also being placed relatively well against our main competitors. On day two the weather was much kinder to the boat, giving us the opportunity to push harder, securing a very comfortable bullet.” said Stavros.

The new dates for the SCYR are the 22nd-24th June 2023 during which Commodore Sir Stelios’ sailing yacht “Aria 1” will once again participate as the Committee boat. All Gustavia Yacht Club members are welcome to come aboard and enjoy the races.

The biggest Classic Yacht Regatta in Greece was excellently organized by the Yacht Club of Greece between June 30 th – July 3 rd for the 6 th consecutive year, under the auspices of the Municipality of Spetses , with the support of the Spetses Yacht Club and the Poseidonion Grand Hotel . Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta 2016 was completed with the participation of 70 classic and traditional boats and hundreds of visitors, establishing itself as not just the most popular regatta in Greece, but as one of the most important regattas in Mediterranean . It was a ceremony of sailing and the art of wood shipbuilding.

The astonishing races of the classic boats, the schooners and the lateens, gave spectators the opportunity to watch unique competition and beautiful classic boats coming from every corner of Greece and abroad. This year’s regatta welcomed two classic yachts for the 1st time in Greece, Puritan and Skylark , which were built in 1930 and 1937 respectively. It is important to note that this year the number of participating boats was increased by 20%, proudly promoting Greece worldwide. At the same time, Glaramara and Baccara , which were participating for the 6th year in a row, won the 3rd and the 1st place at the Classic Boats races. Challenge Race was held, for the 2 nd consecutive year, one day before the official start of the races, and gave the opportunity to four pairs of boats to compete in a fun race.

The main Awards Ceremony , which took place at the Bouboulina’s Museum for the first time, included special awards for each category, given by the race’s prize supporters . The prize supporter of the Classic Boats Category was the vice-president of the World Sailing, George Andreadis . The prize supporter of the Schooner Category was an anonymous donor that dedicated the award in memory of John Z. Goulandris , while the prize supporter in the Lateens Category was Dr. Stefanos Chandakas and his daughter Alexandra .

The ceremony was honored by the presence of the president of World Sailing, Carlo Croce , who participated in the race with the traditional boat “ Afroessa ”. During the ceremony, the president of the Yacht Club of Greece, Alexandros Papadogonnas , stated: “ The Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta, condenses the values of the Yacht Club of Greece. The constant development and the success of this race, has established it in the Mediterranean and reflects the hard work and the absorption we have given, as well as the evolution of the sea tourism ”.

A highlight of the event was the moment when Lascaris Foundation , gave the Gold Sponsor Award . The award was shared to 3 sailors, who will represent Greece in Rio 2016 Olympics: Takis Mantis & Pavlos Kagialis in the 470 class and Giannis Mitakis in FINN , who honorably participated in the regatta. Throughout the awards ceremony, the President of the Foundation , Mrs. Georgia Lascari and Mr. Nikos Lascaris , wished the Greek athletes to live such great moments in Brazil, having been awarded Olympic Medals this time! Lascaris Foundation aims on fully supporting the sports and athletic achievements in Greece, as well as reinforcing the Greek entrepreneurship and the sections of health and education.

The majestic Poseidonion Grand Hotel , fully supporting the race from the very first year, was the Concours d’ Elegance Prize Supporter for the best preserved and authentic boats, this year as well. The hotel’s CEO, Mr. Antonis Vordonis , gave these prestigious awards to: Puritan for the Traditional Boats Category, Marida for the Schooners Category and Christina for the Lateens Category. In addition, IWC Schaffhausen , the official Timekeeper of the Regatta, offered to the crew of Puritan an impressive Aquatimer Automatic IWC watch from their special diving collection.

Porsche Hellas and Motodynamics S.A. were Sponsors of the races, with the new hybrid Porsche Cayenne S , a high performance SUV car – like every Porsche – with low fuel consumption and low emissions. The new hybrid Porsche Cayenne S , was on display at the Poseidonion square during the races.

Official Timekeeper for a 2 nd consecutive year was the Swiss watch manufacturer of haute horlogerie, IWC Schaffhausen , famous for its passion for innovation and technical ingenuity.

SCYR’s new Drinks Sponsor was METAXA , the Original Greek Spirit that since 1888 has spread its sails and travels around the world, constantly revealing new aspects of its multidimensional character. Gaining strength from its traditional values to express new trends in the world of cocktails , METAXA got inspired by the island of Spetses and the colors of the Greek sun, and offered three specially designed cocktails ( Sun Fashioned , Spetses Sunset and Spirit of the Sun ) at all the cocktail-parties of the event. The combination of these new flavors with an excellent live music concert added a unique flair to the parties, which admittedly were very successful and participants had the time of their lives.

Suncare Sponsor of the races was La Roche-Posay , protecting the sailors – who are exposed to the sun for many hours – with Anthelios XL UltraLight Fluid SPF 50+ as well as everyone else urging us to save our skin and the skin of our loved ones with the #SaveYourSkin campaign.

SEBAGO , which emphasizes on the respect for the art of hand-made shoes, offered docksides pairs to the members of the organizing committee and ran an online contest for more pairs of Docksides for the SCYR visitors and participants during the four-day event, and SALTY BAG , the top Greek brand that made the skippers’ bags by decommissioned sails and took part in the races with the traditional Greek boat, “Stratis” , impressing everyone with the amazing skirts sewed by spinnakers(!).

The luxury hotels Amanzoe Resort and Nikki Beach Resort & Spa , which hosted the kick-off party of SCYR 2016 on the impressive Pearl Rooftop of the hotel one day before the official start of the races, as well as Technohull , a leading company in the field of luxury speedboats and specializing in high performance RIBs (Rigid Inflatable Boats), which provided its impressive boats for the races’ needs, were also Supporters of Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta 2016 .

Foundation of Anargyrios & Korgialenios School of Spetses , Spetses Trade Association , Bouboulina’s Museum and the Traditional Boat Association of Greece were the contributors of the race.

Communication Lab and Dr. Marina-Lida Coutarelli were in charge of the Press Office and Sponsors management for a 6 th consecutive year.

Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta 2023: Ο κορυφαίος Διεθνής Αγώνας Κλασσικών και Παραδοσιακών Σκαφών επιστρέφει στις Σπέτσες 22 με 24 Ιουνίου

Σαλπάρει για τη δεύτερη δεκαετία του στο μαγευτικό μπογάζι των Σπετσών, το 11 ο “Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta”, ένας από τους κορυφαίους αναγνωρισμένους αγώνες κλασσικών σκαφών σε διεθνές επίπεδο, που διοργανώνεται από το Ναυτικό Όμιλο Ελλάδος, υπό την αιγίδα του Δήμου Σπετσών και του Υπουργείου Πολιτισμού και Αθλητισμού, με την υποστήριξη του Ναυτικού Ομίλου Σπετσών.

Ο Διεθνής Αγώνας Κλασσικών και Παραδοσιακών Σκαφών στην Ελλάδα, Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta 2023 (SCYR), που φέτος θα διεξαχθεί με ανανεωμένο πρόγραμμα, θα ξεκινήσει την Πέμπτη 22 Ιουνίου και θα ολοκληρωθεί το Σάββατο 24  Ιουνίου.

Η διεθνής καινοτομία του αγώνα είναι η ταυτόχρονη συμμετοχή κλασσικών σκαφών, παραδοσιακών καϊκιών και λατινιών σε έναν ιστιοπλοϊκό αγώνα, που πλέον θεωρείται θεσμός για την ελληνική ιστιοπλοΐα.  Συμμετέχουν μαζί με διάσημα κλασσικά σκάφη, από την Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό, φημισμένα καϊκια της χώρας που έχουν ναυπηγηθεί σε παραδοσιακά καρνάγια, αναδεικνύοντας παράλληλα την ιστορική κληρονομιά και την σπουδαία ναυτική μας παράδοση.

Ο αγώνας είναι συναρπαστικός, με υπέροχες εικόνες στα θαλάσσια στενά των Σπετσών, από τα σπάνια πανέμορφα σκάφη που συμμετέχουν σε υψηλού επιπέδου ιστιοπλοΐες. Μια γιορτή του ναυταθλητισμού που προσφέρει μεγάλες συγκινήσεις στους συμμετέχοντες και στο πλήθος των επισκεπτών που θα κατακλύσουν το αρχοντικό νησί του Αργοσαρωνικού και θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να θαυμάσουν τα σκάφη και να απολαύσουν τους αγώνες.

Στο κέντρο των επιχειρήσεων ως Μέγας Υποστηρικτής, θα βρεθεί και φέτος το ιστορικό Poseidonion Grand Hotel , που από το 1914 αποτελεί ένα από τα διασημότερα σύμβολα των Σπετσών, ενώ θα είναι και  αθλοθέτης των βραβείων “Concours d’Elegance”, για τα πιο καλοδιατηρημένα και αυθεντικά σκάφη.

H Πρόεδρος της Οργανωτικής Επιτροπής του SCYR 2023 και μέλος του ΔΣ του Ναυτικού Ομίλου Ελλάδος, κ. Λίζα Σταθάτου , επισημαίνει: “Είμαστε πολύ χαρούμενοι που φέτος ξεκινάει η δεύτερη δεκαετία του Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta , μιας διοργάνωσης που ως Ναυτικός Όμιλος Ελλάδος έχουμε καταφέρει όλα αυτά τα χρόνια, να διαδώσουμε την αξία της και να κρατήσουμε ψηλά τη φήμη και την εμβέλειά της. The inaugural event of the Spetses Classic Yacht Race 2011 was held in September 2011 in the picturesque island of Spetses, only 54 nautical miles from Pireus port.

In deference to Spetses’ naval history and tradition, for the first time in racing history, Aegean Classic Schooners raced alongside Classic Yachts.

The idea of this unique race was to bring together proud institutions with common heritage and classical aesthetics combined with world-class organization creating a memorable event. 

In 2012 the Spetses Classic Yacht Race had more than 50 participants, among them some of the most beautiful classic boats and Aegean Classic Schooners in Greece.

Karnagia (shipyards) are an integral part of the tradition and the historical heritage of Spetses island. In addition, part of the proceeds from the registrations will be donated to the traditional Shipbuilding Association of the island of Spetses, dedicated to enhancing and preserving the continuation of this art.

Ο κορυφαίος Διεθνής Αγώνας Κλασσικών και Παραδοσιακών Σκαφών επιστρέφει στις Σπέτσες 22 με 24 Ιουνίου

Με μια μεγαλοπρεπή και γεμάτη λάμψη εκδήλωση δόθηκε την Πέμπτη 25 Μαΐου το κέλευσμα για το ενδέκατο “ Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta ” , ενός από τους σημαντικότερους και πιο αναγνωρισμένους αγώνες κλασσικών σκαφών σε διεθνές επίπεδο, που τελεί υπό την αιγίδα του Δήμου Σπετσών και του Υπουργείου Πολιτισμού και Αθλητισμού και διοργανώνεται από το Ναυτικό Όμιλο Ελλάδος (NOE) με την υποστήριξη του Ναυτικού Ομίλου Σπετσών (ΝΟΣΠ).

Ο Διεθνής Αγώνας Κλασσικών και Παραδοσιακών Σκαφών στην Ελλάδα, το Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta 2023 (SCYR),που φέτος θα διεξαχθεί με ανανεωμένο πρόγραμμα, θα ξεκινήσει την Πέμπτη 22 Ιουνίου και θα ολοκληρωθεί με το καθιερωμένο Crew Party το Σάββατο 24  Ιουνίου, προβάλλοντας τη διεθνή καινοτομία που προσφέρει η ταυτόχρονη συμμετοχή κλασσικών σκαφών, καϊκιών και λατινιών σε έναν ιστιοπλοϊκό αγώνα, που πλέον θεωρείται θεσμός για την ελληνική ιστιοπλοΐα.

Στο κέντρο των επιχειρήσεων ως Μέγας Υποστηρικτής, θα βρεθεί και φέτος το ιστορικό Poseidonion Grand Hotel , που από το 1914 αντιπροσωπεύει το κοσμοπολίτικο πρόσωπο του νησιού και αποτελεί ένα από τα διασημότερα σύμβολα του, ενώ θα είναι και  αθλοθέτης των βραβείων Concours d’Elegance, για τα πιο καλοδιατηρημένα και αυθεντικά σκάφη.

Για άλλη μια χρονιά μεγάλες συγκινήσεις πρόκειται να προσφέρουν τόσο οι συμμετέχοντες, όσο και το πλήθος των τουριστών που θα κατακλύσουν το αγαπημένο νησί του Αργοσαρωνικού και θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να θαυμάσουν μερικά από τα ωραιότεραπαραδοσιακά σκάφη, παραδοσιακές λέμβους και οικογενειακές λέμβους-dinghies,  καθώς και ορισμένα από τα πιο διάσημα κλασσικά σκάφη, από την Ελλάδα και από το εξωτερικό.

H Πρόεδρος της Οργανωτικής Επιτροπής του SCYR 2023 και μέλος του ΔΣ του Ναυτικού Ομίλου Ελλάδος, κ. Λίζα Σταθάτου, ανέφερε: «Είμαστε πολύ χαρούμενοι που φέτος ξεκινάει η δεύτερη δεκαετίατου SpetsesClassicYachtRegatta , μιας διοργάνωσης που ως Ναυτικός Όμιλος Ελλάδοςέχουμε καταφέρει όλα αυτά τα χρόνια, να διαδώσουμε την αξία της και να κρατήσουμε ψηλά τη φήμη και την εμβέλειά της. Φέτος, στοχεύοντας όπως κάθε φορά σε ένα τριήμερο γεμάτο δράση, ελπίζουμε να έχουμε στο μπογάζι των Σπετσών τον αέρα σύμμαχό μας.»

Χρυσός Χορηγός του αγώνα είναι η εταιρεία ποτών ΑΜΒΥΞ , που συνεχίζει να στηρίζει για έκτη χρονιά με υπερηφάνεια το θεσμό της SCYR2023 τονίζοντας το ευ αγωνίζεσθαι και την ομαδικότητα, αξίες παγκόσμιες και διαχρονικές, με δυο εμβληματικές μάρκες, τη σαμπάνια Moët & Chandon και τη super Premium βότκα Belvedere . Ο Γενικός Διευθυντής της ΑΜΒΥΞ, κ. Ιωάννης Αρτινός, δήλωσε: «Είμαστε πολύ υπερήφανοι που τα τελευταία 6 χρόνια στηρίζουμε κι εμείς με τα δύο κορυφαία brands μας αυτή τη σπουδαίαδιοργάνωση. Τα μέλη του Gustavia Yacht Club έχουν δικαίωμα χρήσης του Club House, που διαθέτει open bar, και βρίσκεται στο St. Barts και λειτουργεί από τον Νοέμβριο μέχρι τον Απρίλιο. Τον υπόλοιπο χρόνο τα μέλη έχουν την δυνατότητα να λάβουν μέρος σε διάφορα exclusive social and sailing events στο Μονακό και στις Σπέτσες.
