Staying on course

The Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master 42 in 18 ct white gold with a falcon’s eye dial and an Oysterflex bracelet.

The oysterflex bracelet, highly resistant and durable.

The Yacht-Master’s new Oysterflex bracelet, developed by Rolex and patented, offers a sporty alternative to metal bracelets. The bracelet attaches to the watch case and the Oysterlock safety clasp by a flexible titanium and nickel alloy metal blade.

The blade is overmoulded with high-performance black elastomer which is particularly resistant to environmental effects, very durable and perfectly inert for the wearer of the watch. For enhanced comfort, the inside of the Oysterflex bracelet is equipped with a patented longitudinal cushion system that stabilizes the watch on the wrist and fitted with an 18 ct white gold Oysterlock safety clasp. It also features the Rolex Glidelock extension system, designed by the brand and patented. This inventive toothed mechanism, integrated beneath the clasp, allows fine adjustment of the bracelet length by some 15 mm in increments of approximately 2.5 mm, without the use of tools.

18 ct white gold

Commitment to excellence

By operating its own exclusive foundry, Rolex has the unrivalled ability to cast the highest quality 18 ct gold alloys. According to the proportion of silver, copper, platinum or palladium added, different types of 18 ct gold are obtained: yellow, pink or white.

They are made with only the purest metals and meticulously inspected in an in-house laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment, before the gold is formed and shaped with the same painstaking attention to quality. Rolex's commitment to excellence begins at the source.

Falcon’s eye dial

Exceptional legibility.

Like all Rolex Professional watches, the Yacht-Master 42 offers exceptional legibility in all circumstances, and especially in the dark, thanks to its Chromalight display.

The broad hands and hour markers in simple shapes – triangles, circles, rectangles – are filled with a luminescent material emitting a long-lasting glow.

Bidirectional Rotatable Bezel

Timing the distance.

The Yacht-Master’s bidirectional rotatable 60-minute graduated bezel is made entirely from precious metals or fitted with a Cerachrom insert in high-tech ceramic. The raised polished numerals and graduations stand out clearly against a matt, sand-blasted background.

This functional bezel – which allows the wearer to calculate, for example, the sailing time between two buoys – is also a key component in the model’s distinctive visual identity.

Rolex Yacht-Master 226659 Falcon's Eye Dial

Certified by Watch CSA The Leading Independent 3rd Party Provider of Watch Authentication

Pre-owned Rolex Yacht-Master ref 226659 (2022). Rolex release two very intriguing editions of the gold and Oysterflex Yacht-Master 42 in 2022, one in yellow gold and the other in existing white gold but with a remarkable falcon's eye dial. Previously, the 42mm model was only available in white gold and with a black dial and black Oysterflex bracelet. The newest model is just different enough to get collectors excited without straying too far from the collection's core aesthetic. It still houses the caliber 3235 Perpetual movement and features a matte and polished ceramic bezel, long-lasting Chromalight, and the innovative Oysterflex strap with a nickel and titanium core. What sets it apart is the dynamic genuine falcon's eye stone dial, a variation of Tiger's eye distinguished by darker hues.

Rolex Yacht-Master 42 "Falcon Eye" 226659

The funny thing about Yacht-Masters is that in the collecting world, they’re a watch that tends to pass people by. They aren’t a hype-piece, they are rarely mentioned in the discussion of “tool watches” and in fairness to them, they are woefully underrated.

There are, of course, reasons for this, but with the upgrades to the line, they’re reasons that are relevant to the Yachty’s of old, less so the current lineup.

The Yacht-Master was first launched in 1992 in full yellow gold. It was very much a "HELLO SAILORS" piece designed, as its name suggests, for the Yachting set, those who split their time between sailing and getting plastered on Martini’s while gracing the decks of the yacht-club. It was designed to straddle the world of work, and play. Being precious metal, early buyers would have been wise to keep it a little calm on the work front though, it must be said.

A steel case and bracelet variant, the 16622 was launched in ’99 and is considered by some to be the definitive Yacht-Master. It had a platinum dial, a vibrant red seconds hand, and a platinum bezel and was mounted on an oyster bracelet with polished centre links. Rolex named the steel and platinum mix “Rolesium” as is often their habit when combining metals. Rolesor (steel and gold) belong the better known example of both word and metal blending. The mix goes as follows: Role(x) S(teel) and either Or (gold) or “ium”, the end letters of platinum. Quite proprietary but can still create some confusion with those who aren’t “au fait” with the method.

The 16622 was and still is a lovely watch, but it was always a niche seller and never quite hit peak.

There may be a couple of reasons for this:

Primarily, the platinum bezel. While utterly opulent, it is difficult to refinish due to its sandblast base and polished raised numbers. A precious metal bezel + swinging sails + adventurous wear could mean an eye-watering bill should you need to replace the bezel after battering it.

Despite having a triplock crown, its water resistance rating was set at 100m so as to not pit it against the flagship Sub. Don’t get me wrong, 100m is perfectly adequate, but it put the Yacht-Master amongst the likes of the Daytona, GMT, and DateJust - none of which are marketed as watches for the high seas. It was also considered to be a bit of a hybrid piece. With a curved and polished case similar Daytona minus its chrono pushers, and the use of precious metals, it wasn’t appealing enough to the tool-watch nuts to be a big hit. There have been plenty of other configurations of Yacht-Master available over the years, ranging from 27mm (now discontinued) to the 44mm of the regatta chronograph equipped Yacht-Master II. They have been available in a range of flavours bi-metal, full gold, sunburst dials, plain dials, MOP dials, and pretty much everything in between bar a full stainless steel variant. Those of you who keep in the loop will also be aware of the brand spanking new 2023 release of the Yacht-master 42 in full RLX titanium. A new metal in the Rolex playground that was initially premiered in the whopping 50mm Deepsea Challenge. Lets call the new Ti YM42 the follow-up for more moderate wearers.

Personally, I don’t think we’re going to see a Ti Submariner any time soon, which is indicative of the strategy that Rolex is putting in to the Yacht-Master with its recent tweaks, firsts, and investment into the range.

It has gone from the oddball of the catalogue to the point were its offering some significant competition to its stablemates. The most notable of which was the 2019 release of the Yacht-Master 42 which shed its soft bouncy curves in favour of a larger, sharper, beefier case which echoes that of the Submariner +1mm. Those of you who have met my love of analogy before - it’s gone from Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and The City to full Sarah Connor.

This has been a roaringly successful evolution that brings us quite neatly to the subject of this review. The Yacht-Master 42 “Falcon Eye”

The Yacht-Master 42 is a relatively new addition to the Rolex line-up. Released in 2019 in 18 carat white gold with a black dial. Its got the “macho” hard lines of the submariner, along with a gorgeous matte black ceramic bezel (no more worries about taking chunks out of platinum) and is fitted to a Rolex Oysterflex bracelet, which in typical Rolex form, is not actually as simple as a rubber strap, despite appearances.

The “Oysterflex” bracelet was first released in 2015 on the 40mm Everose Yacht-Master and comprises of two titanium blades in arced shapes, which make the base “skeleton” of the strap. The blades are covered by a black elastomer (rubber) which has two “fins” on the underside to raise the rubber from the wrist slightly to improve ventilation and comfort, as well as increasing the stability of the watch and reducing the propensity of a heavier watch head to spin on the wrist. As the bracelet cannot be cut to size, Rolex offers it in several different sizes to accommodate all wrists, and the fitted clasp allows for both micro-adjustment and has an easy link feature to take care of any change in wrist size due to heat and humidity. Its supremely comfortable and robust, and is, in my humble opinion, the perfect bracelet for this particular reference. The use of both matte ceramic and Oysterflex in this instance is Rolex playing a sneaky blinder, because if you want the increased size, Oysterflex, and a non gloss ceramic, the YM42 is your only option. Rolex haven’t released a Sub or SeaDweller with a matte bezel, or on Oysterflex so Rolex have very cleverly created a funnel from those who want matte and rubber straight to the YM line which has done the job as Yacht-Masters have seen a switch from being a faintly forgotten about member the professional line, to increased popularity and waiting lists. Job done. The case is 18 carat white gold with thick lugs and flat polished case sides, and the bezel is a matte ceramic with raised polished numbers. No surprises from the crown there.

The dial, however, is the show-piece of this particular model. It’s a “Falcon Eye” which is a stone from the Tiger eye family (technical term - unreplaced crocidolite) but rather than exhibiting flashes of gold and brown like the tiger, the falcon eye exhibits flashes of mid and dark blue with occasional green or grey bands.

The stone is said to have both calming and protective properties, which makes it an ideal talisman for dealing with traffic, children, GP receptionists, and customer service hotlines as well as excelling in its default setting of yachts, boats, decks, bars, clubs and snorkelling.

The wonderful thing about this dial is that in some lights, it looks utterly black and unassuming, but when the light hits it glints into life and displays some captivating blue and grey striations which brings a bit of restrained partying to the proceedings. Given that low key extravagance has become pretty synonymous with the Yacht-Master line in general, it’s a triumph.

I suppose that drawing this review to a close, a sensible question to ask would be would I choose this Yacht-Master 42 over any of its competitors, whether that’s a precious metal or steel Sub, a GMT, or even a Daytona, as these pieces are that natural competitors. I have to say, yes. In a Falcon-Eyed flash.

Rolex Releases The Yacht-Master 42 Watch With Yellow Gold And Falcon’s Eye Dial Variants

yachtmaster falcon eye

In 2019, Rolex added a 42mm variant to the Yacht-Master range that became the largest size of the brand’s three-hand sailing watch. Despite being a larger-sized luxury watch, that model still flies somewhat under the radar, as it comes in a more subtle white gold color with a traditional black dial on an Oysterflex bracelet. At Watches and Wonders 2022, however, Rolex has changed that with two new references.

The first new version is the yellow gold Rolex Yacht-Master 42. As with the earlier white gold model, it features a bidirectional rotating 60-minute bezel with a three-dimensional polished and matte black Cerachrom ceramic insert. The change points are that the case is now rendered in yellow rather than white gold. The black lacquer dial is also updated with yellow gold indices as well as yellow gold hands. Rolex describes this new finish as “Glowing with Brilliance.” Unlike white gold, it won’t be confused with stainless steel, so this model should be sure to draw more attention than the earlier version.

yachtmaster falcon eye

For buyers who prefer more neutral tones, the white gold Yacht-Master 42 is still in the Rolex catalog. Lucky buyers will soon be able to choose a second and very unique dial option though. Called “Falcon’s Eye,” the dial has an organic texture to it, as well as a blue-green hue that should be sure to look attractive in different types of light. As with all Rolex dials, it is designed and manufactured in-house, and largely by hand. The markers and hands of this model are made from white gold, and both models feature Rolex’s Chromalight blue luminescence.

yachtmaster falcon eye

As with the existing 42mm model, both new variants are equipped with Rolex Oysterflex bracelets. What appears to be a simple rubber strap is actually a flexible titanium and nickel alloy blade which is over-molded in what Rolex refers to as “high-performance black elastomer.” It is finished off with an 18k gold Oysterlock safety clasp that features the Rolex Glidelock extension system.

As it is only available in precious metals, the Yacht-Master 42 is one of Rolex’s less commonly seen and more expensive sports models. With these new releases, Rolex adds some desirable options to the line that give the luxury model a look that more accurately reflects its higher price point. These new Yacht-Master 42 models will be available through Rolex dealers at MSRPs of $28,300 to $32,250 USD . For more details, visit the brand’s website .

Watches In The Wild The Road Through America, Episode 1: A Model Of Mass Production

At 8:30 AM last Wednesday (Geneva time), when everyone stateside was tucked into their beds, the entire set of new Rolex novelties hit the internet. We immediately turned our focus to a certain left-sided crown GMT-Master II with a green and black bezel, and the new Air-King with crown guards and professional case. But those weren't the only releases from The Crown this year. In fact, when the HODINKEE team visited the Rolex booth (I really need to stop calling these things booths) at Watches & Wonders, one collection took us all by surprise: The Yacht-Master.

Now, I don't have a complete understanding of the personal lives of my colleagues, but I think it's fair for me to say that not one of us is a competitive yachts-person and yet nearly every one of us was jazzed to handle the new 42mm Yacht-Master in yellow gold on the Oysterflex bracelet. Yellow gold has a tendency to do that.

YG Yacht-Master

In fact, this is one of the reasons I am so happy that trade shows are back and we're able to handle watches in person and report back to you, the readers, on our observations. I think it's likely that we would have overlooked this release as nothing more than a change in metal. But to my mind, this new case material results in a Yacht-Master the way it always should have been: Flashy, but no less sporty. The yellow gold execution just feels right.

Of course, that wasn't the only news to come off the yacht. We weren't able to see it, but Rolex unveiled a new white gold variant with something called a Falcon's Eye dial which looks about as cool as anything I've seen out of the "house that Wilsdorf built" in years. I'll reserve full judgment until I see it in person, though.

Falcon's Eye Yacht-Master

Yacht-Master with Falcon's Eye dial

But there was even more yacht-watch action that had the room waiting to touch and feel (I'll never stop saying that). I'm talking about the 40mm white gold Yacht-Master with diamond-set lugs, and a rotating bezel fully set with an array of colorful sapphires.

I don't want this point to be lost on anyone. The bezel has no text, numerals, or any useful markings. It's just adorned with sapphires and yet – Rolex still made it rotate. You just have to love that. It almost bears repeating the "no sapphire left unturned" joke I made in the introductory article. Well, I guess I just repeated it anyway.

Sapphire Yacht-Master on wrist

It really is interesting that the watches you think we'd scoff at in press photos are the ones we were most excited to try on in person. The sapphire YM made its way around the table multiple times, as each of us wanted a second and third time with it on the wrist. From a size perspective, I have always loved the 40mm YM , and the colorful blingy-ness of this one really makes it a larger-than-life timepiece.

But it was the YG YM that really caught my eye. Prior to W&W, we wrote an article about Rolex watches we hoped to see this year. I chose one I knew we would never see, which was a Submariner with a Yacht-Master bezel. I just love the matte-ceramic look and feel of this bezel with the tone-on-tone raised numerals. For a model range that comes predominantly in precious metals, it is interesting to see such a utilitarian, toolish look paired with gold. This is in contrast to the steel Submariner, which utilizes a shiny Cerachrom bezel.

Yellow Gold YM on wrist

On the wrist, the 42mm version wears exactly like you would expect a 42mm watch to wear. It isn't deceptively small, or overly large – but it is big. I have a six-and-a-third-inch wrist and I am not sure I could wear this one daily. Much of that has to do with the Oysterflex bracelet – and yes it is technically a bracelet and not a strap. You see, as comfortable as it is (and it's mighty comfortable), it bows out slightly and doesn't hug the wrist as tightly as a traditional bracelet does. Unfortunately, this makes a 42mm watch wear exactly as advertised, which in my case makes the watch a tad too big (though fingers crossed for a future 37mm version).

This was a bit of a bummer for me to experience in the room because as a design object, the yellow gold Yacht-Master is a total stunner. The black dial, maxi lume plots, and the date window all work to form a well-proportioned timepiece. Of course, this is a purely aesthetic update and the watch continues to feature the Superlative Chronometer-rated 3235 caliber.

Yellow Gold Yacht-Master

I really think the entire YM collection is criminally underrated by the general watch-loving public, but I also understand that price is a factor in these things, and at $28,300 the yellow gold model isn't necessarily a bargain. Of course you can always spring for the steel model with platinum bezel in 40mm sizing, but that really feels like a different watch entirely.

Yellow Gold Yacht-Master

My high-level observations of this watch are that it's a logical addition to the Yacht-Master fray. I suspect we'll see more of these in the wild than we did the white gold model because WG is a metal that flies under the radar. If you're buying gold, you want someone to know. It has the heft you want from a solid gold watch, but it's balanced by the cushioned comfort of the Oysterflex. In a world where steel Rolex sport watches are trending around the price of this model on the secondary market, is it so crazy to spring for YG and get your name on the warranty card?

Making the case: The Rolex Yacht-Master is the most versatile collection of all their ‘Professional’ models

Making the case: The Rolex Yacht-Master is the most versatile collection of all their ‘Professional’ models

For most, the day after Christmas is Boxing Day. But, for some professional sailors, December 26 marks the beginning of the  Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. Organised by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, the race, which was first held in 1945, and has been sponsored by Rolex since 2002, consists of yachts ranging from 30 feet (9.14 metres) to 100 feet (30.48 metres), with crews both professional and Corinthian, racing through 628-nautical miles (1,163 kilometres) of open water. It is an absolutely gruelling race in which merely completing it is a massive accomplishment. But, I am no sailor myself. So when I heard about the race, my mind immediately wandered to the Rolex Yacht-Master.

As I sat pondering the collection, I began to think about just how underrated the Yacht-Master is compared to other “Professional” Rolex references like the Submariner, Daytona, and GMT Master II. So today I want to make the case that the Yacht-Master is not only massively underrated, but also the most versatile collection of all the “Professional” models. Normally in the Making The Case  column, we present arguments for and against. But, this time around I will make my case by highlighting five Yacht-Master watches (four currently in production, and one discontinued model that is readily available on the secondary market) that, at least in my mind, show why the argument for my case is quite strong.

Rolex Yacht-Master 42

Yacht-Master

Previously, the Yacht-Master 42 was only available in stealthy white gold. At Watches & Wonders Geneva 2022, Rolex finally introduced not only a yellow gold Yacht-Master 42, but also the first yellow gold Yacht-Master ever outfitted on an Oysterflex rubber bracelet. Lately many manufactures have been ignoring yellow gold, sticking with rose and white gold only. This is due to the fact that, in some eyes, yellow gold is considered dated. While some say dated, I say classic. It is hard to beat the purity of yellow gold. Ultimately buyers now have the best of both worlds, you can get the Yacht-Master 42 in white gold if you want to fly under the radar or in yellow gold if being a casual “G” is your vibe. Fingers crossed though that a stainless-steel Yacht-Master 42, or even a RLX Titanium version which we have already seen a prototype of, makes its debut in 2023.

Rolex Yacht-Master 37/40 Everose Gold

Yacht-Master

But Zach, what about rose gold? What if 42mm is too big for my wrist.  Well, you are in luck. Not only is the Yacht-Master available in an Everose case, but also in 37mm and 40mm sizes. The Everose model has yet to make the jump to 42mm, but the 37mm and 40mm configurations are every bit as up to spec as the 42mm. It utilises Rolex’s latest in-house automatic 3235 calibre with 70 hours of power reserve, it is also outfitted on the super comfortable Oysterflex bracelet, it follows the same visual theme with a fully polished case and stealthy matte black ceramic timing bezel, and it has a trip-lock screw-down crown secured Oyster case that is equally pledged with a depth rating of 100 metres – but could likely survive even greater depths. So, within this format you have three precious metal options and three case diameters. And the precious meets casual nature of being outfitted on a rubber bracelet makes the aesthetic, along with its size options, highly versatile.

Rolex Yacht-Master 37/40 Oystersteel and Platinum

Yacht-Master

But Zach, precious metal is totally out of my budget.  Well, while we wait for an Oysterflex-fitted Yacht-Master to be executed in steel or titanium, you still have Oystersteel and platinum options to work with as well. Available in 37mm and 40mm, on mixed finished oyster bracelets rather than on Oysterflex, the examples above are primarily made of 904L stainless steel. The platinum comes into play with the timing bezel, the insert made entirely of platinum. The gray ruthenium dial offers a really cool monochromatic look, broken ever so slightly by the turquoise Yacht-Master text and central lollipop seconds hand. If you are a New York Giants fan, or just simply prefer a more common blue dial with a pop of red, the configuration on your right is also available to explore. Both also utilise the 3235 movement as well.

Rolex Yacht-Master 42 White Gold Falcon’s Eye

Yacht-Master

Rolex is known for incremental change, and, for the most part, a sombreness befitting of their reputation for incredibly solid robust performance watches. But, in the modern era, as Rolex has skewed away from utility towards full-blown luxury, the Crown has begun to experiment a bit more. Sure, we have crazy pave dials, ombre dials, and rainbow Daytonas. But, the quietly released Yacht-Master 42 with a “Falcon’s Eye” dial shows just how strong their dial-manufacturing capabilities are. Many jested Rolex stole a page out of Grand Seiko’s playbook, with nature-inspired palm tree-motif dials on the Datejust. But this “Falcon’s Eye” dial is much more apt example of how Rolex can transform natural elements into an astoundingly cool looking dial. So, for those that need something out of the box, the Yacht-Master 42 is capable of such thrills as well.

Rolex Yacht-Master 35 ref. 168622 with platinum dial

yachtmaster falcon eye

While discontinued, older 29mm, 31mm, and 35mm Yacht-Master watches are also available for purchase as well – and for less than the retail pricing of a current 37mm model in Oystersteel and platinum. This means you have five size options on the table. To explore references like the Daytona and Submariner in their discontinued smaller sizes would require a large-budget worthy of bidding against serious collectors at auction houses like Phillips. A particular Yacht-Master favourite of mine is the ref. 168622 with a platinum dial. Yes, you read that right, the entire dial is made of solid frosted platinum. While the case and bracelet may be steel, the bezel and dial are full-platinum – very stealthy precious metal thrills. I also cannot recall another Rolex dial that utilises a frosted finish. Quite neat.

My closing statement

Yacht-Master

So, with six size options that can be explored, and a wide aesthetic range, the Rolex Yacht-Master offers the most versatility within the pantheon of Rolex “Professional” models. Prove me wrong.

1st State Precision Jewel Cutting Factory TTK-1

yachtmaster falcon eye

The history goes back to 1721 when at this location diamond were turned into gem stones and precious rock, stone and crystal cutting for artwork  was produced. Examples can still be found at the Hermitage and Summer Palace of Petrodverts giving it the name of Versailles of Russia. Based on this expertise in 1930 the 1st State Precision Jewel Cutting Factory, or abbreviant TTK-1 in Cyrillic, was here in Petrodverts established. Until the WWII all jewels for timepieces produced in the Soviet Union where produced at TTK-1. The factory was destroyed during the war, but re-build and from 1949 it took-up the manufacturing of the jewels again.

In addition the  factory started to produce watches with movements coming from the 1st and 2nd Moscow Watch Factories. Unlike the other watch factories, the watches were not made by production lines and conveyer belts (which expertise was bought from and setup by LIP of France in Pensa for the first time) but by small groups of watchmakers in parallel. This lasted from 1949-1954. In 1954 the name changed to Petrovoredts Watch Factory and autonomous watch and clock manufacturing took place. In 1962 the name changed again into Raketa.

Designation of origin

yachtmaster falcon eye

' SU ' is a generic marking applied to many Soviet-built movements from somewhere around the late sixties until the end of the USSR, after which it was replaced by ' RUS ' for Russia and ' BY ' for Belarus. Surplus stocks of ' SU ' marked movements continued to be used well into the 1990s.

State Mark of Quality

yachtmaster falcon eye

More often than not, on items of domestic production or on their packing, we find this pentagon, in which above stylized the letter <K> appears an inscription <CCCP>. The letter <K> is sideways, and creates simultaneously an image of balance. The bottom part is represented in the form of dividers, and the top is a balanced bowl. It symbolically expresses an idea "from commensuramility - to an establishment of conformity", that is one of main problems of standardization: an establishment of optimum conformity between requests of the consumer and parameters of quality. The emblem of a State mark of Quality, a mark certifying a highest level of quality, and conformity to production to the best world standards, is this.

Why there was a necessity for such mark? What entitles a product to its application? What gives production and consumption of production with is familiar qualities? The answers to these questions are in indissoluble connection with the tendency of development of soviet socialist economy at the present stage.

"In present conditions if to mean effect for all national economy, it is better - Almost always means and more", - The comrade L. Brezhnev on XXIV congress KPSU spoke.

In a 1965 in connection with transition of an industry to new system of planning and provision of economic incentives, the decision on introduction in our country of state certification of quality of industrial items was accepted.

The concept "the quality of production" has very wide sense. It indicates conformity of an item to the standards, drawings or specifications and high efficiency in operation (consumption), characterized by reliability, profitability, aesthetic level. All listed attributes of quality of production in many cases manage to be characterized by quantitative parameters reflecting the various parties of consumption cost of production.

In application, for example, to electric motors it is technical parameters: capacity, efficiency and so on: parameters of reliability and durability - Service life, probability of non-failure for service life and so on; parameters of a degree of unification and standardization - Factors applicability standardized and unified dimensions of compound details.

Besides the listed parameters, to evaluate quality, the result of examination of an aesthetic level of items - Appearance, convenience of work with them and so on are considered. To achieve such examination in USSR, one attends an All-Union research institute of an industrial art.

Certainly, in each specific case, the parameters of quality are established with allowance for specifities of an item. Use of quantitative parameters allows one to compare qualities of the given item with what that by other, similar as required item, which on the given interval of time symbolizes a maximum world degree of quality. The comparison can be conducted on the basis of comparison of the best domestic and foreign samples, by results of comparative tests, by valuation of a conjuncture in the external market. Such work also was executed by a State commission. It has established, that the quality of electric motors of a series A-2 met maximum achievement in the given area of engineering.

In Soviet Union since a 1972 all production under the authorized nomenclature is exposed to certification for three categories: by maximum, first and second, To a maximum category applies production appropriate on the technological parameters to maximum achievement of a domestic and foreign science and engineering; this production the State mark of quality is given. To the first category applies production appropriate to the standards (or specifications), which are up-to-date. Production certificated for the second category, is subject to modernization or removal from production.

Appearance [ ]

Tatiana was a 31-year-old [1] Russian woman with short chopped brown hair. She wore thick-framed glasses and a generic gray business suit, [2] also donning a long-haired red wig to disguise herself. [3]

Shaitane Badi history [ ]

Chapter 1 [ ].

At Pangkalpinang, Tatiana disguised herself using her red wig and, using her alias Jane, hired the Lagoon Company to provide passage to hired assassins for her. She gave them a hefty sum in advance and told them that her crew to be shipped were well-trained professionals, although she did not board the Black Lagoon herself. The various people that she hired to attack the tanker included Stanislav Kandinsky , Jake , Caroline Morgan , and Shadow Falcon . Unfortunately for her, her initial plan for her hired professionals to board the Hong Kong Triad -owned Zaltzman and kill Mister Chang failed since the Lagoon Company turned on her, but Jake and Stanislav were able to get away using Hotel Moscow 's Nefrit ship stolen days ago, and Shadow Falcon escaped after sabotaging Dutch 's boat. [4]

Chapter 2 [ ]

As Dutch exited Balalaika 's office room at the Bougainvillea Trade Company building after discussing the attack with her (including the Nefrit as a getaway vehicle), the auditor Tatiana slipped into the office, and both women exchanged harsh remarks. Tatiana asked Balalaika why she did not report the theft of the Nefrit to her, showing that she eavesdropped on the conversation with Dutch. Taunting Balalaika, Tatiana sat right on Balalaika's desk and looked at her to say that Balalaika's sole management of Bougainvillea had been degraded to low standards by letting the company's finances being too shady. Balalaika then grabbed her by the collar, telling the former-KGB woman that she should stop being so prideful and employing fake smiles.

Frightened but trying to keep face, Tatiana still asked why Balalaika did not inform her of the ship theft, adding that she should have verbally made sure that Dutch would keep his mouth shut. As she left, Tatiana insulted the Dragunov rifle that a culprit (who attacked Mister Chang's tanker) used as a mere antique, causing Balalaika to respond to her that she could show her how "antique" the rifle would be hundreds of meters away.

While Tatiana had been in Roanapur for a week, Boris commended Balalaika for showing restraint, but he politely added that the Nefrit 's involvement in the attack on Chang was cause for alarm, also recommending that she should call Dutch to be discreet just in case. Balalaika agreed about the caution but assured the sergeant that Dutch was a man who was always careful. As Balalaika talked to Boris about the possibility of the culprit being a Vysotnik , Boris had the same thought as her when she uttered that the sniper was likely a fellow ex-Spetsnaz like them, given that the assassin knew how to calculate sniping in high winds. Boris in turn uttered the name Junior Sergeant Stanislav Kandinsky, also remarking that Stanislav had been dead for years, with Balalaika responding that she and Boris had also been dead for years. [2]

Chapter 5 [ ]

Soon, the Vysotniki and Balalaika killed Stanislav when he attempted to assassinate Chang, causing Tatiana to panic after learning about it from a local informant in town. Knowing that Laptev would deny any involvement with her if she got caught, Tatiana got into her Toyota and made a run for the outskirts of Roanapur to go to an airport, but a Benz car blocked her path, making her crash. Surviving, she tried to lock the car door but a hand broke through the window and grabbed her out, seeing that it was Balalaika's right-hand man Boris. He shoved Tatiana into the Benz's backseat and ordered the driver to go. Immediately, Boris handed Tatiana a cell phone with Balalaika on the other line, and Balalaika admitted that her meeting with Chang at The Golden Swingin Night Club was a lie. Terrified, Tatiana retorted that she would never find the double agent in the Vysotniki if Balalaika killed her, but Balalaika called her bluff, telling her that she knew an ex-KGB agent would fabricate a story to make her paranoid.

Tatiana cursed her several times, and Balalaika only said in turn that she had no time to torture her since she could already see what happened, telling the ex-KGB woman to go to hell. After the phone call finished, Boris and the driver brought her to Don Mueang International Airport and forced her to fly to Narita International Airport , where they stole all of her money and took her gold teeth, killing her and putting her corpse in a women's bathroom stall at the Narita Airport in Japan. Her body was later discovered there in the morning while an airport employee was cleaning the bathroom. Later, Laptev frantically called Balalaika since he heard about her death as a result of stealing money from Hotel Moscow and trying to flee, and Balalaika calmly confirmed her murder. When Laptev accused her of killing Tatiana, Balalaika stated that they could get someone from Moscow to investigate the situation, adding that he should watch his back and his own territory in Japan.
