Reporting from the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival, MBY's Alex Smith takes us on a full tour of the Extra X99 Fast, which was making its global debut...

Whether you’re looking at the 23m entry point, the 40m flagship or the 30m motor cat, Extra Yachts is all about efficient long-range platforms with seductive but practical superyacht -inspired day spaces and cruising facilities. The new Extra X99 Fast is no exception.

With naval architecture by Palumbo Superyachts, exteriors by Guida Design and interiors by Luca Dini, Extra describes the style as “modern Mediterranean flair” and that translates into a layout that majors on alfresco entertainment.

The 75m² aft deck features an unusual semi-external dining zone, which straddles the internal saloon and the expandable open-air cockpit, with an extendable 12-man table and a well placed multi-purpose bar area.

From here, another pair of convivial zones slope down towards the sea – a lounge area with low-slung settees and fold down balconies, and a spacious aft sunpad perched above a big swim platform.

While the 4m Williams Sportjet has a dedicated tender garage on the starboard side, those who want the extra versatility of a pair of jet skis will appreciate the fact that the bow also features a hydraulic crane.

On the inside, the saloon features an aft galley with a drop-down glass partition for extra privacy. It also provides a relaxed bar, plus an L-shaped sofa with armchairs – and rather cleverly, the low-level coffee tables can be raised, creating a second internal dining area.

Below deck, there is space for up to ten guests in four large cabins, thanks to a pullman bed in each of the two twin cabins, plus a VIP cabin forward and an amidships owner’s cabin that takes full advantage of the 24ft beam.

Given the scale of all these spaces, the flybridge seems surprisingly short, with a deck that encompasses little more than a quarter of the overall length. Accessed via a stairwell from the starboard side deck, it provides a distinctly intimate relaxation zone with sun loungers, a dining table and a bar.

But while it’s certainly more compact than most upper decks, the reason for that revolves around the driving dynamics. After all, this is not some vast, ponderous floating hotel.

As the name suggests, the Extra X99 Fast is a genuinely sporting motoryacht and, in spite of a length just shy of 100ft, it backs that up with a top speed not far short of 40 knots, thanks to a lightweight carbon-fibre-infused planing hull and a trio of MAN V12-2000s or a pair of MTU 2,600hp units hooked up to waterjets.

On top of that, the yacht is fitted with two 2,600 hp MTU engines mated to waterjets. During the first sea trials, she hit 37 knots at full tilt and showcased “great stability and maneuverability,” according to Extra. The yard says she’s also quiet and comfortable below deck.

The cockpit layout has Extra’s unmistakable DNA, with a modern layout and large entertaining spaces. The aft galley is cleverly concealed behind a glass partition that can be lifted or lowered on demand. Elsewhere, there are four large cabins that can accommodate up to 10 seafarers.

Back upstairs, the 800-square-foot outdoor deck features collapsible balconies, a dedicated “lounge zone” with sun loungers and an extendable table that comfortably seat 12. On the starboard side, you’ll find a large garage holding a 13-foot Williams Sportjet tender. There are also two Jet Skis housed in the bow, alongside a hydraulic crane for hauling and launching toys.

Although it’s only been a couple of years since Extra entered the marine industry, the newcomer’s fleet now includes six models ranging from 76 to 130 feet. The yard also recently unveiled a new hybrid catamaran known as the X30 Villa that pairs the space of a superyacht with the efficiency of a multihull. The second X99 Fast will also be based in Miami and will join the first hull across the pond once complete.

The 2024 Extra X99 FAST by EXTRA Yachts combines high performance with luxury, making it an exceptional choice for speed enthusiasts. It features a striking profile with aggressive yet elegant lines and is powered by a triple engine package with water jets, reaching a top speed of 44 knots and cruising speeds in the mid to high 30s. This design provides a shallow draft, ideal for navigating the shallow waters of the Bahamas.

The yacht’s interior offers sleeping accommodations for up to 8 guests across 4 cabins, including a spacious VIP and a full beam master suite. Crew accommodations vary, with options for 2 or 3 cabin configurations that can sleep up to 5 crew members. Personally speaking I love this model. Her interior is surprisingly spacious and I love the vibe that the main deck brings to the style of living. The galley is located back aft versus the more traditional location tucked away on the interior. This allows for the galley to be opened up to the aft dining area great for entertaining. Great for guests, it encourages a high level of service and the chef's love it. Forward of this you have your main salon or lounge area which is a very inviting comfortable space. You have a few different layout options for this space that you can chose that best suits your family's style of living including interior dining. 

The EXTRA 99 is a next generation express cruiser that is proving to appeal to a wide range of buyer - both the younger generation, or experienced owner. It can be a great weekend warrior yacht and can be positioned behind almost every water front estate or it can give one access to every marina even those who require shallow drafts in the Bahamas or Miami.

The eye-catching design of the profile expresses its marked personality, immediately standing out for its uniqueness.

A refined play of contrasts between the clean and soft white surfaces of fiberglass or aluminum and the elegant dark windows. The focal point of the new Extra X99 Fast is certainly the stern which distributes its 75 square meters (thanks also to the collapsible balconies) over 3 convivial areas sloping down towards the sea: the beach area, the lounge area furnished with sun loungers and sofas, and finally the dining area fitted with an extendable table to seat up to 12 people and a multi-purpose console. 

The desired effect is that of a return to nature, sea and leisure.

The interior layout offers two main deck options, one with a spacious C-shaped sofa and another with an indoor dining area. 

The interior and exterior layouts merge seamlessly thanks to the aft galley which, through an up/down glass partition, is able to enliven more informal moments or become a space for the exclusive use of the chef. 

The transformism typical of the Extra models conveys the search for innovative and flexible solutions for the daily use of the boat. 

The sun deck, accessible through an external staircase on the starboard side, reserves maximum privacy and is complemented with several loungers, a dining table with up/down movement and a bar.

Below deck, we find four cabins, two with twin beds where a pullman bed can also be added as optional, a VIP cabin and the owner's cabin positioned amidships to take advantage of the 73-meter maximum beam.

Neu-Samara Mennonite Settlement (Samara Oblast, Russia)

Neu-Samara ( Pleshanov ) was a Mennonite settlement in the northern part of the fertile section of Samara , Russia , about 125 miles (210 km) east of the city by the same name. It was founded in 1890 as a daughter settlement of Molotschna and embraced 59,400 acres of land. In 1926 it numbered 3,071 Mennonite and 66 non-Mennonite inhabitants, who lived in twelve villages and five single farms.

US premiere at Palm Beach International Boat Show

EXTRA Yachts, a brand of Palumbo Superyachts, announces the US premiere of the new EXTRA X99 Fast at the forthcoming Palm Beach international Boat Show. This superyacht will be showcased at the Denison stand, ramp 5.

EXTRA X99 Fast is a concentrate of power and volume to provide guests with great livability and fun on board.

The naval architecture designed by Palumbo Superyachts and the comprehensively studied exteriors by the Guida Design studio have led to the creation of a 30-metre model, with a planing hull in composite and carbon fiber, capable of reaching a maximum speed of 37 knots. The unmistakable external lines with a marked and dynamic personality combined with external and internal spaces with a modern Mediterranean flair.

The focal point of the new EXTRA X99 Fast is certainly the stern which distributes its 75 square metres (thanks also to the collapsible balconies) over 3 convivial areas sloping down towards the sea: the beach area, the lounge area furnished with sun loungers and sofas and finally the dining area fitted with extendable table to sit up to 12 people and multi-purpose console. The desired effect is that of a return to nature, sea and leisure.

The interiors are by Luca Dini – Design & Architecture studio which for this project selected nuances of sand which become more materialized and masculine with the addition of inserts of steel and leather in different shades of grey, as well as natural leather coverings on walls and floor. 

The environment is embellished by the use of square oak strips that alternate with a uniform rhythm, generating coverings with rigorous and symmetrical lines. All interspersed with smoked-effect black lacquered glass.

The use of marble is scrupulous, the Calacatta Borghini and the Golden Spider appear below deck to embellish convivial and reserved corners.

The interior layout merges with the exterior one thanks to the aft galley which, through an up/down glass partition, is able to enliven more informal moments or become a space for the exclusive use of the chef. The transformism typical of the Extra models signifies the search for innovative and flexible solutions for the daily use of the boat.

The main deck saloon offers great comfort and in addition to the enveloping L-shaped sofa with armchairs there is also a comfortable bar. The coffee tables serving the sofas can be transformed into a table thanks to an up/down mechanism, to ensure a second internal dining area.

The sun deck, accessible through an external staircase on the starboard side, reserves maximum privacy and is furnished with several sun loungers, a dining table with up/down movement and a bar.

Below deck, we find 4 cabins, two of which with twin beds and a pulman bed, a VIP cabin and the owner’s cabin positioned amidships to take advantage of the 7.3-metre maximum beam.

The 4-metre tender is housed in a dedicated garage on the starboard side.

Driven by two 2600hp MTU engines combined with water jets, at maximum speed X99 Fast enjoys stability and great maneuverability as well as being absolutely silent below deck for extreme comfort on board.
