Alloy sailing superyacht Red Dragon sold

The 51.7 metre sailing yacht Red Dragon , listed for sale by Jonathan Barbe at Edmiston & Company , is now sold in a direct deal.

Designed by Dubois Naval Architects , Red Dragon was built by New Zealand yard Alloy Yachts and launched in 2008 as an aluminium fast cruising sloop. She has a magnificent contemporary interior by Wilmotte & Associates with accommodation for up to nine guests in four guest cabins and a gym. The master suite is full beam and there are two identical doubles and a twin cabin with a Pullman berth. All have individual climate controls, television screens, en suite facilities and access to a Kaleidescape server for on-demand movies and music. In addition, the fully equipped gymnasium has a Pullman berth for one guest.

The aft deck is large and offers the perfect spot for cocktails at sunset while her cockpit houses an enticing area with al fresco dining and relaxation space for up to 10 guests. Her flybridge has a bar with an expansive sunbathing area and a retractable Bimini top.

Sloop rigged, Red Dragon was offered for sale with a full set of Doyle ‘Ice’ sails, a Marten Spars 62.5 metre High Modulus carbon fibre main mast, along with a carbon fibre rig and boom, again by High Modulus. Winches were all custom made by Alloy Yachts while standing rigging is by Future Fibres and Nitronic. Under power, a 1,400hp Caterpillar engine gives her a range of 4,900 nautical miles.

Lloyds classed and MCA compliant, Red Dragon was asking €17,950,000.

Exterior Design & Engineering

With her exterior designed by Dubois Naval Architects, RED DRAGON embodies a sleek and sophisticated design, making her a timeless vessel which could have been delivered yesterday.

Constructed with an aluminium alloy 5083 hull and superstructure and powered by a single 1,400 Hp Caterpillar C32 C diesel engine, RED DRAGON yacht reaches a maximum speed of 15 knots and has a range of 4,900nm at a cruising speed of 12 knots.

RED DRAGON is home to world-class Superyacht amenities, designed for entertainment and for experiencing the most of your surroundings thanks to her thoughtful design and large windows.

The sun deck features a large al fresco dining area which can be sheltered with adjustable awnings, along with forward-facing sun loungers which allow guests to bask in the sun and benefit from the ocean breeze.

Stairs lead from the sun deck down to the main deck, where there is a relaxed and protected al fresco dining area with built-in sofas which benefit from uninterrupted views of her surroundings.

Leading aft, there is an expansive deck with more sun loungers, providing a place of relaxation which can also be utilised for exercise by guests if desired. A fold out swimming platform at the stern creates the perfect launch pad for RED DRAGON’s array of toys to be enjoyed.

She features an open plan living area, with a relaxed sofa setting and views towards the stern. Inside, there is a further inside dining area along with a bar for evening entertaining.

Interior design

Designed by Wilmotte & Associates (interior designers of the Louvre amongst other things), her stylish interior embodies a stylistic approach in contemporary design, complemented with the use of high-quality Superyacht-level materials. Throughout there is a harmonious balance through light wooden features and soft furnishings, with large expanses of glass drawing the outside in and providing guests with excellent sea views.

In 2023, RED DRAGON underwent refit and maintenance works. These include repainting of the transom, rebuild of two winches, rig checks and service work by Marine Results, new black tank install, sails serviced by North Sails, all sheets and main halyard replaced, a new aft deck awning installed and the replacement of the 20-man life raft.

RED DRAGON now accommodates 10/12 guests across five cabins, including a luxurious and spacious owner’s suite expertly designed by Wilmotte & Associates, continuing the sophisticated and modern feel experienced throughout her communal interior. The rest of her guests are accommodated across three double cabins (one of them with pullman bunk), and one twin cabin also with pullman, all with ensuite bathrooms.

Toys & Tenders

PRESENTING RED DRAGON

Luxury charter yacht RED DRAGON is 52 meters in length. She is an Alloy Yachts build from New Zealand. Her design, from Dubois Naval Architects, is that of a high-performance aluminum sloop. Sailboat RED DRAGON represents a global luxury yacht charter vessel. Furthermore, with the ability to stay operational for long periods at sea . The Wilmotte & Associates designed interior has a large saloon with a formal dining area for up to 10 guests. The interior of the yacht RED DRAGON is light and contemporary and finished in pale timber.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Guest accommodations include an owner’s suite with a bathroom and three ensuite guest suites. Also included on the same guest deck is a gymnasium. Forward, the crew layout has five cabins, all with ensuites for up to 10 crew.  Guests access the flybridge from the cockpit.

SUPERSTRUCTURE

This megayacht sailboat is striking. Her topsides are anthracite gray with a white superstructure. Her excellent sailing performance and clean decks turn heads wherever she goes.

The yacht has a 62.5 meters carbon fiber mast. In addition, it features an in-boom furling mainsail.  Eleven captive and six vertical winches control the sails.

The main engine is a C32 1400hp caterpillar.  Not only this engine, but she also has two 90kw Northern Lights generators. Two water makers each supply up to 16,000 liters per day.  Significantly, bow and stern thrusters assist in a confined space.  The yacht’s range under power is approximately 5900 nautical miles.  Further, at 10 knots.
