Turkey’s history stretches back over 5,000 years, and represents a unique blend of eastern and western cultures, boasting a rich archaeological legacy left over from classical civilizations and Islamic Middle East, with several locations of cultural significance now designated UNESCO Heritage sites.

Its strategic position between Europe and Asia has seen it act as both a conduit and barrier simultaneously between the two continents of Asia and Europe over the years. Over the centuries Turkey became more secular and Western-orientated, culminating in a reform of the Turkish language.

As a popular destinations for yacht charters in the East Mediterranean, there should be ample to choose from when it comes to crewed yachts for charter in Turkey. If you’re unsure about whether you want to book a gulet, motor or sailing yacht for your luxury getaway, there are a few things you should consider first.

Gulet Yacht Charters in Turkey

Gulet charter cruising Turkish waters

Making up the majority of the fleet in this country, a luxury gulet in Turkey can provide guests with an excellent crewed charter experience to explore secluded coves and ancient ruins in a more cost-effective manner, with a vast amount of deck space on board. Expect capped air condition times, specific hours of cruising included in the price and lower APA costs as you are mostly in bays, but expect higher fees for ports.

Motor Yacht Charters in Turkey

Guests can also select from a fleet of luxury motor yachts  in Turkey, mostly located in Bodrum, Göcek , Fethiye , Marmaris , and Bozburun . Complete with larger interior volumes, more powerful engines as well as better amenities on offer, it's a sumptuous alternative to gulets. However, this is usually paired with higher charter costs.

Sailing yacht charters in Turkey

As for Turkey sailing yacht rentals with plenty available throughout summer. A combination of clement weather, clear skies and plenty of showstopping anchorages create great sailing conditions in the region.

There’s something to suit every type of budget for a Turkey yacht rental. The overall price of a Turkey yacht charter vacation varies depending on a number of factors, including the type of yacht, the age of the yacht, and the month in which you choose to charter.

  • A Turkey motor yacht rental can range from $28,294 to $1.6m per week, plus expenses
  • For luxury sailing and gulet yacht rentals in Turkey, prices can go from $21,013 to $147,091 weekly, plus expenses

May till October are the best months to cruise the shimmering Aegean and Mediterranean waters on a yacht charter. Yacht charter guests can expect here an average minimum temperature of 15 degrees from May, before peaking to 33 degrees in July and August. It still remains positively balmy come October, reaching up to 24 degrees, with comfortable sea temperatures averaging 25 degrees.

Gulet yachts anchored in a sheltered cove in Turkey

The majority of yacht charters in Turkey commence in the country’s southwestern marinas thanks to the excellent provision of facilities, unparalleled scenery, and convenient location to both regional and international airports. Vibrant Bodrum , the picturesque fishing village of Göcek , or the enchanting Çeşme , Marmaris , Fethiye , or Antalya are all chartering favorites.

For a less obvious starting point, you could choose the tranquil bliss of the Bosphorus strait near Istanbul . However, keep in mind you will have fewer charter options available in this area.

sample itineraries

Bodrum and Marmaris are popular points to end a Turkey yacht charter, thanks to their excellent array of facilities and close proximity to international airports.

The Turkish Riviera (also charmingly known as the Turquoise Coast thanks to its vividly-colored waters) comprising southwestern destinations like Fethiye , Marmaris , and Bodrum,   is by far the most popular area for chartering.

Fethiye Yacht Charters

Aerial view of Blue Lagoon, yacht charter

Many begin a yacht charter in Fethiye , thanks to its convenient location to Marmaris and Bodrum in the north. Dominated by soaring cedar trees and pine-carpeted cliffs that tumble into clear blue waters, it's flecked with archaeological ruins and uninhabited islands, with plenty of bays to take toys for a spin.  Fethiye  yacht charters are also a great base for visiting one of Turkey’s most jaw-dropping beautiful beaches, Ölüdeniz (Blue Lagoon).

Göcek Yacht Charters

Beautiful mountain backdrop at Gocek bay Turkey

Göcek yacht rentals have been long adored by international jet setters. This fishing village located on a private bay is the entry to undiscovered coves and more than 12 islands of unmatched beauty. Boasting six well-equipped marinas (including two for superyachts) it’s brimming with cafes and tavernas. Before going off-shore, stop by for a traditional mezze platter or sip a cocktail as the sun's apricot glow falls on its shorefront promenades.

Marmaris Yacht Charters

Romain ruins carved into clifftops in Turkey

A Marmaris yacht charter gives guests the best of both worlds. A superyacht haven, this buzzing town is a hub of activity: with a bustling grand bazaar, throngs of restaurants, bars, and shops lining cobblestone streets, and paragliders filling the skies above. But this is in dramatic contrast to the rest of the stunning Carian Coast which is within easy reach of Marmaris : secluded bays and quaint villages are dotted all along the Bozburun Peninsula .

Bodrum Yacht Charters

Billowin bougainvillea on a street corner in Bodrum Turkey

Why are Bodrum yacht rentals so popular? It's a vibrant coastal city humming with nightlife and home to a large glittering marina as well as the landmark St. Peter’s Castle. Unquestionably a glamorous beach hangout, hip restaurants and bars sheltered by palm trees frame the chic Yalikavak marina.

During a Bodrum yacht charter, be sure to anchor at nearby Türkbükü Bay for a taste of the “Saint-Tropez of Turkey" and dance under a canopy of stars. Cruise further afield and you’ll reach the olive-grove covered Datça Peninsula , as well as the Dalyan- Ekincik  Bay, revered for its windsurfing opportunities.

Yachts moored in a marina in Turkey with verdant hills in the background

Surrounded by the Mediterranean , Aegean , Marmara , and Black Seas , it should come as no surprise that Turkey is home to a vast array of world-class marinas perfect for gulet or yacht chartering. It should be noted that whilst the Black Sea is replete with deep valleys, verdant mountains, and crater lakes, it does not usually feature on a typical yacht itinerary. That’s largely down to its wetter and colder climate, leading to few well-developed marinas. As a result, it does not feature in our list below.

For yacht charters on Turkey's Mediterranean Coast:

  • Kaş marina : recently developed and has slip capacity for 450 yachts.
  • Setur Finike marina: situated in the stunning historic city of Finike, with a 320 slip capacity.
  • Setur Antalya marina : renowned superyacht marina, slip capacity reaches 235 yachts.

For yacht charters on Turkey's Aegean Coast:

  • Yalıkavak marina : award-winning with 620-slip capacity, catering to every possible yachting need.
  • Çeşme marina: located in the illustrious port village steeped with history,  it can accommodate 400 slips up to 80m.
  • Skopea marina : regarded as the original superyacht marina, it accommodates up to 80 yachts, with 110m yachts tied to a jetty.

For yacht charters in Turkey's Marmara Region:

  • Ataköy marina: just outside of Istanbul's city center and known for its nightlife. 700 moorings up to 40m.
  • Istanbul marina : located in the heart of Turkey, with 720 moorings for yachts up to 60m.
  • West Istanbul marina: highly acclaimed, it caters to 600 slips up to 95m.

The Turquoise Coast is unquestionably Turkey's anchorage paradise, studded with emerald islands with golden bays lapped by beautiful blue-green waters begging to be explored. Here is our pick of some of the best anchorages in Turkey:

  • Cleopatra Bay (Manastir) : located a stone’s throw from the beautiful town of Fethiye, this glorious sequestered bay yields a bounty of emerald-clear waters atop ancient baths, perfect for anchoring and an afternoon kayak.
  • Fethiye : This port city is known for its exquisite natural harbor, vast swathes of deep golden sand beaches and stunning blue waters. The area also boasts an array of ancient rock tombs dating back to 4th Century BC.
  • Kalcan (Lycian Coast) : a gorgeous sheltered bay set within a charming fishing village against a backdrop of rugged mountainous scenery. Step ashore and explore this tranquil haven, which also boasts a plethora of excellent dining options.
  • Kekova (Antalya province) : this beautiful small island near Kas is the ideal spot to drop anchor for the night, which also happens to be the site of a rather unique ancient sunken city. Although a popular hotspot for tourists during the day, if you aim to arrive around 5pm, you’ll have the place to yourselves.

Turkey Yacht Charter Q&A

For booking most yacht charters, a completed charter agreement and 50% of the charter fee is required upfront as a deposit to secure your chosen yacht. This is usually payable once the contract has been signed

Turkey is an increasingly popular superyacht destination, so yacht charter guests can rest assured that they will have boundless vessel options which will meet their budget criteria.

Whatever type of vessel you ultimately choose, one thing to keep track of are the additional costs not included in the yacht charter base rate. For example, VAT and the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). This is usually 30% of the charter fee, and paid in advance. The APA covers expenses such as fuel, berthing, food and drinks, as well as any special requests.

However, gulet charters usually have lower APAs. For personalized advice please consult your yacht charter broker.

Not sure whether to pick a motor yacht, sailing yacht or gulet? Browse our site according to your chosen dates, number of guests, yacht type, features, and preferred onboard toys and we'll show you what's available and within your budget.

If you make a subsequent enquiry, a yacht charter broker will get in contact to provide you with a bespoke charter proposal.

Alternatively, get in touch with your  yacht charter broker directly and they can research the best yacht for you in line with your requirements.

The vast majority of yacht charters commence in southwest Turkey, with the most popular superyacht locations being Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye, Göcek and Antalya.

Unlike many yacht charter destinations, you also have the option of a gulet charter in Turkey. It is well worth considering if it may be right for you. Benefits include lower APA costs and considerably wide decks onboard to lap up turquoise-tinged panoramas that surround you. However, capped fuel limits and air conditioning times are common to gulet yacht charters.

Yes, it is possible to visit Greece on a luxury Turkey yacht charter. However, additional VAT and fees may apply if venturing outside Turkish waters. It is also worth noting that for convenience, it can often be better to visit Turkey and then Greece or vice versa, rather than zig-zag between the two. That's because you will need to provide documentation every time you cross borders which can be time-consuming.

For precise details regarding fees and routes to Greece, consult your charter broker.

Sailing in Turkey - Geography

Turkey, the size of France and Germany together, is located between Europe, Asia and the Middle East. It’s coastline runs 5,176 miles (8,330 km) with the Black Sea to the north, the Aegean Sea to the west and the Mediterranean to the west, plus the Bosphorus, connecting the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara. The capital of Turkey, Istanbul (or known as Constantinople before), located right on the spot – dividing or connecting Europe and Asia, is a true wealth of the Byzantine Christian and Muslim (Ottoman) Turkish heritage. It is a delightful conglomerate of numerous tourist attraction: mosques and churches, palaces and castles, Turkish bathes and bazaars. Istanbul is a pure reflection of fast-changing nation. Contrasts between old and new, high-rise modernisation and lack of adequate essentials are merely shocking. But surprisingly this striking feature enchants even more travellers to this region. Origins of the Turks The Turkish people are descendants from the tribes of Central Asian nomads or the Turkmen.

The history of Turkey is as long as that of mankind. Known as Anatolia, or as Asia Minor before, this land has seen so many ups and downs of many great civilisations ( the Persians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines an Ottomans) that it is hard to squeeze it in any narration. In the middle of the 11th century, the tribe invaded Persia, and when Baghdad fell in 1055, the powerful Great Seljuk Sultanate was declared as the centre of the Islamic world. But in 1243 it was defeated by the Mongols. During 13 and 14th centuries many Christians converted to Islam, because the Mongols offered reduced taxation for Muslims. The Mongols ruled Anatolia till 1335, then Osman founded a dynasty known as the Ottomans and created one of the most powerful empires. By the mid of 1500s, the Ottoman sultan was the central figure of Muslim world. In the 1870s, reformist movement known as the Young Ottomans began to push for a constitutional monarchy. In 1912 and 1913 the empire lost most of its remaining European possessions in the Balkan War. By 1918 only the heartland of Anatolia remained of the Ottoman Empire. In 1923 the Turkish Republic was proclaimed with the First Constitution implemented. During World War II, Turkey pursued peaceful policy and remained neutral.

Most of Turkey’s population (76 million people) follows Islam. The most devoted pray 5 times a day in mosques, while some Turkish do not go to mosques at all. Approximately 130,000 are non-Muslims, including Greek and Armenian Orthodox.

The Turkish language uses the Latin alphabet. But their greatly animated body language can deliver as much a message as a speech itself. The traditional segregation of the sexes is very noticeable. You may often come across groups of men sitting around smoking, drinking endless cups of tea, playing cards or dominos. Numerous festivals, where food and drinks play a central role, demonstrate sincere hospitality and generosity. The age-old Turkish traditions demand absolute respect of elders and cherish their children as national treasures.

The outcome of this country’s long and sometimes violent past reflects itself in its art and architecture and also alters or introduces its traditions and customs. Many peoples, among them Jews, Russians, Armenians, Greek and others have played an important part in Turkey ‘s complex history. It can be seen in mosaics and frescoes, colourful tile work, city walls, fortress and biblical sights.

Customs and traditions.

The Turkish customs, passed from generation to generation, are well-preserved in contemporary life. The Islamic tradition to circumcise boys from the ages of seven and ten is a very lavish occasion. All men over the age of 20 are required to serve in the military forces, which is considered to be a crucial step to manhood. Wedding festivities, which take a lot of preparations of cooking, dressing and dancing are one of the most impressive rituals. Traditional dress as a colourful designed costume, always goes with decorative scarves (both for men and women), dyed with a plant extracts. The traditional crafts are mostly man-made: copper and brass ware; woodwork; hand-printed textiles; quilts, etc. For example, needle lace is an intricate floral design crocheted in silk.

Turkey is a large territory for variety of landscapes and geographical diversity: seascapes, soft beaches and rolling mountains along the Mediterranean coast and deep lush forests of the Black Sea, with vast bare areas in the eastern part. About one quarter of Turkey is covered with forest: pine, spruce and cedar, as well as deciduous trees. 80 % of the country is in active tectonic zone, and earthquakes are frequent. Cappadocia is a must see geological miracle. The hardened volcanic ash (the tuff) was weathered away, creating some majestic formations. Earlier in age even cities were constructed underground, because the softness of the tuff made it easy to build different dwellings underground.

Flora and Fauna

Turkey can surprise any naturalist with abundance of bird life (more than 440 species), larger mammals and diversity of plants. Some of this unspoiled countryside zones are declared as national parks. Each area presents different flora and fauna. The forests of the eastern provinces are habitat for bears, wolves or jackals. The Mediterranean coast grows roses, orchids, lilies, daffodils, etc. Wetlands are famous for water lilies and irises; while woodlands – peonies and jasmine.

Various range of mountains and coastal line of seaside correspondently influence climatic regions in Turkey. The Aegean and the Mediterranean will produce 84F (29C) in July and 48F (9C) in January. Winter is mostly a rainy season here. Annual precipitation in Antalya is 39 in, while the rainfall along the Black Sea is much heavier – 96 inches a year. The northeast has warm summers, but colder winters with temperatures of 16F (-9C). The central plateau has hot dry summers of 73F (23C) and chilly moist winters of 32F (0 C). The coastline of Turkey predictably delivers warm summers and mild winters, with mostly sunny days throughout the year. From May till the end of August it may be windy, but it never reaches its 25 Knots Mark. When going east the winds become weaker, thus more comfortable for sailing.

All national and regional holidays can be divided into 3 categories: Religious feasts celebrated by the Islamic people; festivities associated with events or people of historic significance; traditional festivals, usually tied with a seasonal theme. Turkey has four distinct seasons and different types of celebrations are spread accordingly. In spring there are Tulip Festival in April, Yunus Emre Culture and Art week in May, and Marmaris Race week or International Yachting Festival the 2nd week of May. In summer because of the high temperatures, there is nothing better than to be closer to the seaside. International swimming race is held near the Greek island of Meis. Kirkpinar Festival and Grease wrestling Championship is usually in the last week of June. Istanbul Music Festival is a well known event for opera, theatre and ballet lovers. Autumn is a harvesting season, no wonder there are so many festivals based on the crops: watermelon, grapes, etc. The still warm sea welcomes water sports enthusiasts. International Bodrum Cup Regatta is held in the third week of October, and limited only to few categories of wooden yachts. Race week (last week of October to first of Nov.) takes place in Marmaris and is supervised by the Turkish Sailing Federation. Second week of September will attract dance couples to six-day Tango Festival, also held in Marmaris. In winter the local museums and art galleries will give you a shelter from rain and snow. Although Christmas is ignored by the Turks, New Year’s Day is widely celebrated throughout Turkey. In the mid of January, it is worth visiting the ruined Roman theatre of Ephesus, where the Camel Wrestling Championship is held.

Conveniently surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea in the south, the Aegean Sea in the west and the Black Sea up north, it is no wonder that water sports, and especially sailing, are prevailing in this area. Besides, Turkey provides the longest sailing season in the Mediterranean. There are indeed a lot of advantages for sailors in this area. Secluded sandy bays and coves, lush forested hills, ruins of ancient dwellings – sometimes are hidden from explorers and can be discovered only by water. So, “12 Knots” will give you the opportunity to enjoy this paradise with bareboat or skippered yacht charter. Once you reach your destination - sunny weather, pristine beaches, balsamic waters – will create the most relaxing atmosphere for you. Turkey provides not only its picturesque scenery, but also upscale marinas, well- equipped with secure moorings and other useful facilities for yachts. They are well-located to make it easy to get provisions or meals at the restaurants.

One of the main yacht centres, located on the Bodrum peninsula, is a perfect spot for sailing or dinghy racing. The 15 century Castle, well visible from the harbour, houses a Museum of Underwater Archeology these days. Yalikavak, used to be a sponge-fishing port, is a good place to try local delicacies: sea beans and stuffed marrow flowers.

Marmaris, which used to be a quaint fishing village, set in a sheltered bay, is now a vibrant resort and can be easily compared to the Spanish Ibiza. Marmaris is another popular sailing and diving centre with Netsel Marina, as Turkey ‘s largest and most luxurious marinas, and several smaller ones as well. There is berthing for over 750 yachts up to 130 ft (40m) long. Marmaris is a safe anchorage with no underwater currents, sandbanks or rocks.

On the way from Bodrum to Marmaris you’ll come across Gocek, a small village with 5 well- equipped marinas. The public marinas have berth for above 350 boats with a further 200 berth available in a secluded private marina. The ruins of the Roman town of Lydae, with two mausoleums and a fort, can be visible at the tip of the peninsula.

MedGulets was incredibly helpful in facilitating a fantastic holiday experience for our group in Turkey. Medgulets Assist assisted us in selecting the most suitable yacht for our 12-person group, and Mr. Can was effective in attending to intricate details to ensure our journey was exceptional. The captain and crew were exceptional, and the chef truly impressed us. We'd like to extend our thanks for their patience and understanding.

After my trip, I wanted to leave a review right away. The Turkish sea is beautiful and I think everyone should visit it! We wanted to spend the summer with our friends chartering a yacht and after some searching, we decided to trust the team at Medgulets, and it was definitely worth it.

Turkey's Famous Spots Accessible by Boat

Turkey's allure extends beyond its stunning coastlines, encompassing iconic landmarks and attractions. While you can't anchor your boat at the Pamukkale Thermal Pools due to their inland location, the nearby coastal areas offer serene waters perfect for sailing. Goreme National Park, with its fairy chimneys and rock-hewn churches, is another inland wonder that's a short trip away from the coast. The ancient city of Ephesus, a marvel of classical antiquity, is also inland but well worth the journey from the nearest marina. After delving into Turkey's rich history, a traditional Turkish bath in one of the coastal towns offers the perfect way to unwind. For a touch of luxury on your nautical journey, consider a luxury boat charter in Turkey , which promises an opulent experience as you cruise the turquoise waters. And when in Gocek, known for its beautiful marinas and proximity to the Twelve Islands, you can easily rent a boat in Gocek to explore the pristine bays and coves at your leisure."

We’ve already mentioned the crystal clear water, secluded bays, rich culture and the warm weather in the summer months. Those reasons top our list of why you should charter a yacht in Turkey, but it’s not all on the list.

Not only is Turkey a damn beautiful destination to get out on a yacht, but it also offers a rich cultural experience. The country has been shaped over the centuries by the ancient Greeks, Macedonians, Ottomans, and the Romans. Lagoon 500 Catamaran Turkey

  • Great for longer trips

There’s a lot to do on a yacht along the Turkish coast. From the ancient ruins dotted along the coastline to secluded bays, the longer you have on board, the more you’ll get to experience.

This Lagoon 500 catamaran gets our pick for the best overnight yacht charter in Turkey. They specialise in overnight trips and week-long rentals. A week-long trip with 10 mates aboard sounds like a pretty epic holiday to us.

A longer rental often works out as a much lower cost per day than single-day charters. Plus, it’s a unique and exciting way to travel.

The catamaran has four cosy bedrooms with big windows and views out over the big blue. There are four bathrooms, a kitchen, and multiple dining areas.

The star of the show is the net hammock that stretches between the two hulls. On a longer charter, you’ll have plenty of time to chill here, get stuck into your holiday by reading and catch some rays.

You’ve got all you need to feel at home on the sea, though remember, your job is to sit back and relax. When you charter a yacht in Turkey, the captain and crew are there to work out all the logistics.

While it is the impressive amount of watersport equipment that caught our attention with this one, the yacht itself is a true beauty. She is a 131-foot traditional wooden gulet. This is a great choice for bigger groups and parties, with space for 16 guests and eight separate cabins with their own bathroom.

A day out on this yacht charter is bound to be a damn good time and a sweet way to spend some time on the water in Fethiye.

Yacht Turkey

  • Eat Delicious Food – Many yacht charters in Turkey come with a chef on board, and amazing Turkish meals can be arranged for you by your crew. Eating Turkish food in Turkey is a must, why not try something new on a yacht?
  • Go swimming – Taking a plunge into the crystal clear water and is a must, for obvious reasons!
  • Drinks on deck – No need to worry about who will drive home, everything is taken care for you on a yacht charter. Enjoy a cold drink (or several) on the yacht, you’re on holiday after all.
  • Try Raki – On the same topic, If you want to embrace Turkish culture, you’ve gotta try their national alcoholic drink. Raki, also known as Lion’s Milk, is a spirit made of twice distilled grapes and aniseed. It’s flavour is similar to Ouzo, so it packs a punch. This is commonly enjoyed to celebrate special occasions like birthdays and weddings or to commiserate over a broken heart. Surely a fancy yacht charter on the Turkish coast is reason enough to celebrate?
  • Snorkeling and scuba diving – Bring a snorkel along (or use the one on board if it’s included) and explore what is under the surface of the water. If you want to explore a little deeper, check out the scuba diving tours that run out of Marmaris!

Anyone who has been on a jetski before can tell you – it’s a whole lotta fun. A few of the yachts mentioned on this list include jetski access as a part of their package, though you can always chat with your captain and crew in advance while you organise your yacht charter, perhaps they can arrange one for you.
  • Watersports – Have you ever tried watersports like waterskiing, tubing, kneeboard or wakeboarding? Just like the adrenaline rush you get on a jetski, watersports will bring your day up a level or 10. Check which yacht charters have watersport equipment included, like this one!

What yacht charter are you looking for?

With some of the best-valued yachts in the Med, we are seeing clients increasingly seeking larger and more luxurious yachts .

Guests want the most luxurious amenities: Jacuzzis , spa rooms, fully equipped gyms, and large selections of water toys , the most popular being jet skis , Seabobs, and everything else new and thrilling.

But the perks don’t end here: Turkey is one of the few destinations in the Med that permits charters for groups over 12 people , making it a prime choice for larger gatherings. – event charters , corporate charters, and big family gatherings, who struggle to find options in other destinations without having to pay the price of a cruise ship.

Turkey’s charter-friendly approach and its fast-growing infrastructure, which aims to accommodate more luxury yachts, demonstrate a strong commitment to positioning itself as a top charter destination in the Mediterranean.

This image captures a serene cove in Gocek, set against a dramatic backdrop of steep cliffs and lush forests. The deep blue waters are calm and inviting, dotted with several yachts anchored near the secluded beach, offering an idyllic setting for sailing and relaxation.

When is the Best time for a Yacht Charter in Turkey?

The charter season in Turkey is quite long and spans the summer months, from May to October .

This period offers the most favorable weather conditions for sailing, with warm temperatures ranging between 25°C and 35°C (77°F to 95°F) , clear skies, gentle breezes, and long daylight hours. These conditions are ideal for cruising along the Turkish coast and exploring the islands.

We recommend large, crewed yachts such as a motor yacht , a  sailing yacht , or the more classic Gulet charters to give you the best experience in the Meltemi winds.

How do I Book a Yacht Charter in Turkey?

Booking with us is easy and can be done in 5 simple steps – Just check out our video where Charter Broker Martina Asmus explains the easy process. The most important thing to consider is booking in good time.

Ideally, you’d inquire about a Turkey yacht charter 12 months in advance .  WHY?  The best yachts are often  fully booked  long in advance and it’s not unusual to see popular dates booked  2 summers ahead .

Inquiring less than 6 months ahead often means that your first choice is unavailable for charter. Additionally, you might find that the yacht you wish to charter, can’t make it to the port where you wish to commence your yacht charter.

WHAT DO OUR CLIENTS SAY?

Our clients speak of unparalleled service, exquisite yachts, and a straightforward booking process, highlighting the excellence of their luxury yacht charter experiences in Turkey.

Turkish tea ceremony.

Turkish tea is a symbol of hospitality and is typically served in tulip-shaped glasses to enhance its aroma and flavor.

This ceremony is not just about drinking tea but also about slowing down and enjoying the moment, often accompanied by delightful sweets like baklava or lokum (Turkish delight).

A traditional Turkish tea setting, featuring tea served in classic tulip-shaped glasses that highlight its rich, amber color. Accompanied by pieces of baklava, a sweet pastry made of layers of filo filled with chopped nuts and sweetened with syrup or honey, this setup is typical of Turkish hospitality. The tea is likely brewed using black tea leaves from the Rize region, known for its robust flavor. The ornate metal tray and glass holders add a touch of elegance, reflecting the importance of tea in Turkish social and cultural life.

Explore Local Markets and Bazaars

A visit to a local bazaar is an experience that should not be missed. These traditional markets will give you a real look into Turkish culture.

It’s an experience for all senses—smelling the spices, the hot apple tea, and the shishas, all the colors of the fabrics , lamps, and other nicknacks, the glitter of the jewelry and precious stones, the constant chatter of people bargaining and salesmen calling out good deals, and the tastes of the many delicacies laid out in huge piles—Turkish delights, dried fruits, nuts, and honey-dripping baklava .

Don’t miss the Marmaris Grand Bazaar , open daily with a wide assortment of spices, sweets, and handcrafted goods, and the historic Kaleiçi Market in the Old Town of Antalya , which offers a scenic shopping experience with a variety of handicrafts and local foods.

This image vividly captures the essence of a traditional Turkish market, showcasing an abundant display of dried fruits and nuts. There are stacks of dried figs, apricots, and dates, alongside delicacies like rolled dried fruit filled with nuts and strings of candied walnuts. Each item is meticulously arranged, highlighting the rich variety and natural sweetness found in Turkish bazaars, where such snacks are popular for their flavors and nutritional benefits. The market scene is a bustling palette of colors and textures, inviting visitors to explore and taste the natural bounty of Turkey.

Taste Authentic Dishes and Street Food

Meze: Lots of small dishes meant to be shared, often starting a meal. Common meze include dolma (stuffed vine leaves), haydari (thick yogurt dip), and acılı ezme (spicy tomato dip).

Kebab: Turkish kebabs come in many varieties, including Adana (spicy minced meat), Şiş (skewered meats), and Döner (rotating roast).

Seafood: Given its extensive coastline, Turkey offers a rich selection of seafood dishes, especially in coastal towns where fish and other seafood are freshly caught.

Simit: Often referred to as Turkish bagels, simit is a sesame-encrusted bread that is crunchy on the outside and soft inside.

Gözleme : This is a traditional savory flatbread and pastry dish made of hand-rolled dough that is lightly brushed with butter and eggs, filled with various toppings, folded, and cooked over a griddle.

Dondurma : Turkish ice cream is notable for its chewy texture and the theatrical way it is served by vendors.

This vibrant image showcases a variety of traditional Turkish dishes, beautifully arranged to highlight the rich culinary culture of Turkey. The spread includes a hearty vegetable stew with chunks of meat and colorful vegetables, alongside dishes of creamy yogurt, seasoned rice adorned with bright red peppers, and a bowl of chickpeas in a spicy sauce. Each dish is presented in rustic cookware, adding to the authentic feel of the meal, which combines fresh ingredients and bold flavors typical of Turkish cuisine. This type of meal is not only a feast for the eyes but also offers a taste of Turkey’s diverse and flavor-rich food heritage.

Visit a Hamam

A visit to a traditional Turkish bath , or hamam, is a great experience for relaxation and cultural immersion. These baths involve a sequence of rooms that you progress through.

You start in a warm steam room and move to a hot room for sweating, followed by a scrub down and massage , and finally, a cooldown period.

It’s a rejuvenating ritual that cleanses both body and mind.

The image depicts a Turkish bath, or hamam, interior, highlighting its elegant and serene design. The focal point is a traditional marble washbasin set against a vibrant blue Iznik tile backdrop, which is renowned for its intricate patterns and deep colors. This setup, combined with the presence of luxurious bath items such as a striped towel, a wooden brush, and a scrub mitt, evokes the relaxing and rejuvenating atmosphere typical of Turkish baths. Such spaces are designed not just for cleanliness but for relaxation and social interaction, embodying a long-standing cultural tradition in Turkey.

Buying a yacht in Turkey

A yacht is a kind of “house on the water”, allowing not to limit travel routes to the coast of one country and giving greater freedom of movement. As a rule, among most people, the stereotype that yachts are an impermissible luxury is still alive, but this misconception is easily dispelled by considering proposals for the sale of used ships.

With the help of 2yachts, you can view the most profitable offers for the sale of yachts in Turkey and make a long-awaited acquisition, which opens up unlimited opportunities for organizing water holidays. Our customers have access to both yachts adapted for long trips and ships for coastal trips with various functionalities and designs. The company's specialists will provide high-quality transaction support, assess the vessel, conduct a technical examination of the used vessel, negotiate with the owner and advise you on all issues related to the purchase and maintenance of yachts.

You can buy a yacht in one of the Turkish ports, for example, in Istanbul, Antalya or Alanya and have the opportunity to immediately experience its functionality. Most of the Turkish marinas are built on the Aegean coast, however, if you need inexpensive maintenance and parking, we recommend that you also look at the marinas on the Mediterranean coast. So, in Alanya, at the entrance to the city, a spacious marina was built, attracting customers primarily due to the low cost of parking with a high level of service.

Local yacht manufacturing

The territory of Turkey is one of the most favorable places for the construction of pleasure boats. Thanks to the warm Mediterranean climate, it is possible to do without organizing boathouses and workshops, which together with the low cost of electricity and labor makes the cost of yachts in Turkey significantly lower than the cost of building the same vessels in the United States or European countries.

The yachting infrastructure in Turkey is improving every year, and the level of service is growing - today Turkish marinas are considered one of the best on the Mediterranean coast. Turkey is the third country in the world in terms of yacht production, and the annual export of ships is estimated at several billion dollars.

Preference when choosing a market for the purchase of a yacht should be given to Turkey also because of the large selection of offers, affordable prices for comfortable vessels. On our website you can consider yachts for sale in Turkey , which are set at prices from the manufacturer and subsequently benefit from the resale of the vessel - the more prestigious the yacht, the more profitable you can then resell it in the market of your country.

Using our catalog, you can choose a yacht for purchase in Turkey in accordance with your wishes and financial capabilities. 2yachts has many years of experience in organizing the rental and sale of used and new yachts of various years of manufacture. You can find out information about a specific model of a vessel on our website, and if necessary, specify details with one of our managers.

We sell yachts in Turkey in different trim levels and at prices ranging in a very wide range. Accordingly, you can expect to buy a vessel from us that will be maximally suited for a relaxing family vacation, leisurely fishing or a noisy vacation in the company of friends. We have established interaction with sellers and can offer favorable prices thanks to direct sales, excluding the intervention of intermediaries.

In deciding to buy a yacht in Turkey , it is necessary to take into account local features of paperwork. Our company is ready to help you with the choice of the yacht of your dreams so that you can purchase a vessel at a bargain price and not worry about drawing up a contract of sale, insurance and registration of the yacht. We will also take care of organizing a dialogue and overcoming the language barrier with Turkish sellers.

Water recreation is one of the most pleasant pastimes, and all you need to organize it is a small pleasure boat, equipped to give home comfort when staying away from the bustle of cities. As soon as you decide to look for yachts for sale , write to us. We draw your attention to the fact that acquiring a yacht in Turkey can be your good investment, since you can consider renting your vessel at a time when you yourself do not rest on the water and receive tangible income from this! The cost of the yacht paid by you with a responsible approach to planning and implementing a business plan should pay off in a couple of years, and in the future it can consistently make a profit.

You can also rent kayaks or explore the hidden coves and beaches.

Sunbathe on stunning beaches

This city has some hidden gems when it comes to coastal spots that are definitely worth exploring. One of the most popular beaches in Istanbul is Kilyos , located on the Black Sea coast. If you prefer fewer crowds and don’t mind milder temperatures , visit Istanbul during the shoulder seasons in spring and autumn. The months of April , May and October offer comfortable temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C , and the best part is that you’re likely to get better deals on boats!

Should I rent a boat in Istanbul with or without a skipper?

For a relaxed and all-inclusive experience on board, it doesn’t get better than a skippered yacht charter in Istanbul. Even if you already have a valid sailing licence, there are many benefits to having a skipper present. They can dock, anchor and navigate the vessel for you or show you some tips to improve your own technique while you take the helm. Because they are usually locals of the area they can also offer you a unique perspective and take you to the best spots in the city as well as some areas that only the locals would know about!

Who Was on the Sunken Yacht? Tech Mogul Mike Lynch, His Family and Friends.

Mr. Lynch, the former chief executive of the software firm Autonomy, who was acquitted on fraud charges in June, was with friends and family when the yacht went down in a severe storm.

Mike Lynch, in a suit and carrying a leather briefcase, is walking toward a building.

By Michael J. de la Merced

Michael de la Merced reported on Mike Lynch’s career and legal battles over the course of 13 years across two continents.

A cruise on the Mediterranean Sea aboard a superyacht was supposed to be a celebratory event for the British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch , who was acquitted in June of fraud charges tied to the sale of his company, Autonomy, to the tech giant Hewlett-Packard.

Instead, it turned into a disaster after the yacht, a 180-foot boat called the Bayesian, sank off the coast of Sicily in a violent storm. Of the 22 people aboard, 15 were rescued and seven others died . Search operations ended on Friday after the final body was recovered from the site of the sunken yacht .

Here’s what we know about the passengers.

Mike Lynch and his family

Mr. Lynch, 59, is a British software entrepreneur who had once been described as his country’s Bill Gates. He founded the software firm Autonomy, which analyzed clients’ unorganized data, and turned it into one of the most prominent British technology companies of its time. He became a widely known corporate leader, who advised David Cameron, the British prime minister at the time, and joined the board of the BBC.

In 2011, Mr. Lynch sold Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion, which was far above its market value, earning him hundreds of millions. But HP investors almost immediately soured on the transaction, and the American tech giant quickly fired its chief executive — and then Mr. Lynch.

HP later accused Mr. Lynch of misleading it about the state of Autonomy’s business, setting off a decade-long legal ordeal for the British executive, who denied the accusations. U.S. prosecutors charged him and other executives with fraud, and Autonomy’s chief financial officer was convicted in 2018.

Despite appeals to the British government, Mr. Lynch was extradited to the United States last year and was confined to a townhouse in San Francisco ahead of his criminal trial, which began in March. Facing the possibility of decades in prison if convicted, Mr. Lynch and another colleague were instead acquitted of all charges.

An official in Palermo, Sicily’s capital, said on Thursday that Mr. Lynch’s body had been recovered. His wife, Angela Bacares, 57, accompanied him on the yacht, and she was rescued on Monday when it sank. She was a consistent presence at his trial in the United States. Records show that she controlled Revtom, the company listed as the owner of the Bayesian.

The body of Hannah Lynch , Mr. Lynch and Ms. Bacares’s 18-year-old daughter, was thought to be recovered on Friday.

The other guests

Jonathan Bloomer, 70, chair of Morgan Stanley’s international arm and the chairman of Hiscox, an insurance provider that trades on the London Stock Exchange, was on the yacht when it sank, along with his wife, Judy Bloomer, 71. Their bodies are thought to be among those recovered, but Italian authorities have not identified them.

Christopher J. Morvillo, 59, a New York-based partner at the international law firm Clifford Chance, was also on the yacht. A former federal prosecutor who comes from a family of prominent lawyers, Mr. Morvillo represented Mr. Lynch during his criminal trial in San Francisco. His wife, Neda, 57, was with him on the yacht. Their bodies are also assumed to be among those recovered.

“We are in shock and deeply saddened by this tragic incident,” a representative of Clifford Chance said in a statement.

Surviving passengers rescued from the yacht include Charlotte Golunski, a partner at Mr. Lynch’s venture firm, Invoke Capital; Ms. Golunski’s husband, James Emslie; and their one-year-old daughter Sophie. Also rescued were Ayla Ronald, a lawyer at Clifford Chance, and her partner, Matthew Fletcher.

The yacht had a crew of 10, and nine were rescued. The body of the chef, Recaldo Thomas, was recovered from the water, the Sicilian Civil Protection Department said.

Elisabetta Povoledo contributed reporting, and Kitty Bennett and Susan Campbell Beachy contributed research.

Experts puzzle over why Bayesian yacht sank. Was it a 'black swan event'?

Portrait of Cybele Mayes-Osterman

The Bayesian set off on a leisurely cruise around Italy's southern coast on a sunny day in late July.

The luxurious super yacht − which boasted one of the largest masts in the world and carried a crew of business moguls, including British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his family and a chair of Morgan Stanley − set sail from the Amalfi Coast, bound for Sicily.

Less than a month later, the ship had sunk 160 feet under the water , leaving its cook dead and six of its passengers, including at least two Americans, missing and prompting a massive search that has drawn international attention.

Now, experts are trying to piece together why in the early hours Monday the Bayesian was quickly pulled under the waves amid a storm that saw at least one tornado spin up over the water.

Breaking news to start your day smart. Sign up for USA TODAY's Daily Briefing newsletter.

A perfect storm led to Bayesian sinking, experts say

The combination of unlikely factors that could have contributed to the ship's fate constituted a "black swan event," Matthew Schanck, chairman of the Maritime Search and Rescue Council, told USA TODAY.

The Bayesian was well-built: A 2008 product of Italian ship maker Perini, it was constructed in accordance with international maritime standards and commercially certified by the U.K.'s Maritime and Coastguard Agency, according to Schanck.

The bout of bad weather that swept the area when the ship went down was also out of the ordinary in the northern Mediterranean, "which isn't renowned for prolonged, significant stormy weather," he said.

"The fact that those two elements have then resulted in the foundering of a super yacht is pretty extraordinary," Schanck said. "These things don't happen every day."

After the ship sank just before 5 a.m. local time, 15 people, including a 1-year-old, were pulled from the water. Some were rescued from a life raft by the crew of a ship docked nearby.

Ricardo Thomas, the ship's cook and a native of Antigua, was found dead, according to authorities.

As of Tuesday, six people were missing, including Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter. Several missing passengers were involved in Lynch's trial on fraud charges, including Jonathan Bloomer, a Morgan Stanley chair who served as his character witness, and one of Lynch's attorneys. Lynch, accused of fraud after he sold his company to electronics giant Hewlett-Packard, was acquitted of all charges weeks ago.

Tornado formed over unusually hot water

Storms in the area that night may have whipped up a water spout, a tornado over the water , according to local meteorologists.

It was likely triggered by the water's unusual warmth, said Rick Shema, a certified consulting meteorologist who served in the Navy.

"The water spout was an uncommon occurrence," he said. "But again, these things happen, especially in warmer water."

At 83.7 degrees, water in the area was more than 3 degrees hotter than average on the day the Bayesian sank, likely the result of climate change, Shema said.

"Hurricanes can form at 80 degrees. This was almost four degrees higher than that," he said.

The water spout may have spun up when cooler air dropped from mountainous places nearby onto the hot water, he said. "A water spout is a vortex, basically like a tornado, spinning real fast, sucking up water and moisture as the column rises," he said.

Although water spouts only reach around 120 mph, as compared with tornadoes on land, which can reach up to 300 mph, "you don't need 200 mph to sink a ship," he said.

"Even an average tornado, 120 miles an hour, that's a lot of wind," he said, "which would heel the boat over for sure."

Water spouts spring up suddenly, Shema said. Before they strike, winds can be slow, but "once the water spout comes over, bam, it's on," he said.

Before sunrise, the ship's crew may not have seen the water spout coming. "The visibility was probably a big factor," he said.

With the windows of the yacht opened, as they likely were in the hot weather, the water spout could have triggered water that flooded through the portholes, Shema said, causing the ship to sink.

Tragedy strikes: Scramble to find survivors after Bayesian yacht sinks off Sicily coast

Search continues, but shift to recovery phase approaches

Italian authorities said the Bayesian was probably at anchor when the storm struck, meaning it couldn't maneuver and ride the waves, according to Mitchell Stoller, a captain and maritime expert witness. Other ships in the area that turned on their engines rode out the storm, he said.

"When you're at anchor and you see weather, you start your engine and you put the wind on the bow. You don't let it get on the side," he said.

Schanck said another key question concerns the position of the keel, a heavy weight underneath the boat that acts as a counterbalance to keep it upright, when the ship sank. When lifted, "that's going to affect the stability of the vessel, because, obviously, you've now raised the center of gravity of that vessel," he said.

The Bayesian was floating over 160 feet of water at the time, deep enough that the keel would likely be deployed. But the fact that "the vessel heeled over so heavily makes me question that," Schanck said.

The cause of the disaster may not be known until the ship can be examined in more detail, experts say. Prosecutors in a nearby town have already opened an investigation.

Schanck said investigators will have plenty to work with once the operation moves into a recovery phase.

"The vessel is intact and in good condition on the seabed," he said. "There's a lot of eyewitness accounts from other vessels in the area and the shore."

As the search entered its second day on Tuesday, the rescue effort may shift in that direction soon. "I suspect, later on, today or tomorrow, we'll probably see some mention of a recovery operation being stated," Schanck said.

The decision to would depend on whether rescuers find signs of life in the ship and air pockets or survivable spaces, Schanck said. At this point, survivors on the water's surface looks unlikely. "My professional opinion is that the casualties will be located within the vessel," he said.

"There is a risk versus benefit in all maritime search and rescue incidents," he said. "Where we start transitioning to a recovery phase, that line shifts."

Who was onboard tech mogul Mike Lynch's Bayesian yacht?

Topic: Disasters, Accidents and Emergency Incidents

Six people are missing, including a man dubbed the British Bill Gates, after a luxury yacht sank off the Sicilian coast.

British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch — freshly acquitted from a decade-long trial — had invited his work colleagues aboard a trip through the Mediterranean coast when a freak storm saw the yacht sink within moments.

Fifteen people escaped from the sinking vessel. The search for the missing continues.

Here's what we know so far:

What happened?

The Italian coastguard said the yacht — the Bayesian — was anchored off the shore of port city Porticello, near the Sicilian capital Palermo, when it was hit by bad weather sometime after 4am on Monday, local time.

Eyewitnesses said it vanished quickly beneath the waves shortly before dawn.

Managers of the sailing vessel Bayesian, Camper & Nicholsons, confirmed to the ABC that the Bayesian encountered severe weather and subsequently sank.

"Our priority is assisting with the ongoing search and providing all necessary support to the rescued passengers and crew," they said.

"The wind was very strong. Bad weather was expected, but not of this magnitude," a coastguard official told Reuters.

Sicily's civil protection agency head, Salvo Cocina, said a waterspout — a tornado over the water — could have struck the yacht.

"They were in the wrong place at the wrong time," Mr Cocina added.

Storms and heavy rainfall had swept down Italy in recent days after weeks of scorching heat, lifting the temperature of the Mediterranean Sea to record levels and raising the risk of extreme weather conditions, experts told Reuters.

"The sea surface temperature around Sicily was around 30 degrees Celsius, which is almost 3 degrees more than normal. This creates an enormous source of energy that contributes to these storms," meteorologist Luca Mercalli said.

Captain Karsten Borner of the Sir Robert Baden Powell vessel told journalists he noticed the Bayesian nearby during the storm, but after it calmed he saw a red flare and realised the ship had simply disappeared.

Mr Borner said he and a crew member boarded their tender and found a lifeboat with 15 people, some of them injured, who they then took aboard and alerted the coast guard.

Search crews, including helicopters and divers, are continuing to search the wreckage, lying at a depth of 49 metres.

Specialist divers reached the ship on Monday but access was limited due to objects in the way, the fire brigade said.

The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch is deploying a team of four inspectors to Italy to conduct a preliminary assessment.

The Foreign Commonwealth and Development office said it was "providing consular support to a number of British nationals and their families".

Sicilian prosecutors have also opened an investigation into the event.

Who is missing?

A collage of three men

Lawyer Chris Morvillo (left), entrepreneur Mike Lynch, and Morgan Stanley chairman Jonathan Bloomer are among the missing.

There were 12 passengers and 10 crew members aboard the yacht.

Mr Cocina said the crew and passengers hailed from a variety of countries, including Britain, the United States, Antigua, France, Germany, Ireland, Myanmar, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Spain.

Of the 22, one man is confirmed dead and another six people are still missing.

They are believed to be inside the hull, fire rescue spokesperson Luca Cari said.

Fabio Cefalù, a fisherman who said he responded to a flare from the vessel but found it sunk, said he stayed at the site for three hours without finding anyone.

"I think they are inside, all the missing people," he said.

Rescue teams recovered the body of the yacht's onboard chef on Monday, identified as Antiguan citizen Ricardo Thomas.

The still missing people include:

  • Mr Lynch's 18-year-old daughter, Hannah
  • Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of global financial services company Morgan Stanley International
  • Chris Morvillo , a lawyer at the British multinational law firm Clifford Chance. He worked on Mr Lynch's lawsuit against Hewlett-Packard
  • The identities of the remaining two missing are still unconfirmed

Who was rescued?

Fifteen people escaped from the sinking ship.

Eight have been hospitalised and others were taken to a nearby hotel.

Among those rescued were:

  • Mr Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, who was the owner of the yacht
  • Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter, Sofia. Ms Golunski is a partner at Mr Lynch's firm, Invoke Capital. She says she momentarily lost hold of Sofia in the water but managed to hold her up above the waves until the lifeboat was inflated
  • Ms Golunski's husband James Emslie
  • New Zealand captain of the yacht James Catfield. He told Italian newspaper La Repubblica the crew didn't see the storm coming
  • A lone Dutch citizen was identified by the Dutch foreign ministry as being rescued, but was not identified

Who is Mike Lynch?

Mr Lynch, once hailed as Britain’s king of technology, was recently freed from a Silicon Valley lawsuit that tarnished his legacy.

The 59-year-old Cambridge-educated mathematician created Autonomy , a search engine that could pore through emails and other internal business documents to help companies find vital information more quickly.

He received the OBE for his innovation in 2006.

He then sold the software to Hewlett-Packard (HP) for $US11 billion ($16 billion) in 2011, with Mr Lynch personally netting $US800 million.

HP valued Autonomy at $US46 billion ($68 billion) in the months leading up to the deal.

But the deal quickly turned sour after he was accused of forging the software's financial records to make the sale.

As part of a decades-long legal battle against HP, Mr Lynch was extradited to the UK on criminal fraud charges.

He steadfastly denied any wrongdoing, asserting that he was being made a scapegoat for HP's own bungling.

He was eventually cleared of all charges in June this year.

Although he avoided a possible prison sentence, Lynch still faced a bill from a civil case in London that HP mostly won during 2022. Damages haven't been determined in that case, but HP is seeking $US4 billion.

Following the San Francisco trial, Mr Lynch said he would return to the UK and do what he loved most: "[being with] my family and innovating in my field."

The holiday appeared to be something of a celebration after Mr Lynch's acquittal, with guests including some of the people who had stood by Lynch throughout the ordeal.

Italy Boaters Missing

In a separate act of tragedy, Mr Lynch's co-defendant in the trial, Stephen Chamberlain, died on Monday, after a road accident left him critically injured.

Mr Chamberlain — Autonomy's former vice-president of finance alongside Mr Lynch — was hit by a car in Cambridgeshire on Saturday morning and had been placed on life support.

What is the Bayesian?

The luxury yacht is 56m long sailboat, with a 75m mast labelled as the tallest aluminium mast in the world.

It was previously named Salute when it flew under a Dutch flag.

The yacht, built in 2008 by the Italian firm Perini Navi, can accommodate up to 12 guests in six suites and a crew of 10, according to online specialist yacht sites. It was last refitted in 2020.

Online charter sites listed it for rent for up to 195,000 euros (about $AU 321,000) a week.

Two boats in the sea

This picture taken on Sunday shows the Bayesian (left) and the Duch sailboat Sir Robert Baden Powell anchored off the coast line.   ( AP: Fabio La Bianca/Baia Santa Nicolicchia )

The ship also won a string of awards for its design.

Ms Golunski said the yacht had travelled through the Aeolian Islands, Milazzo and Cefalù before sinking.

It is likely the yacht's name would resonate with Mr Lynch because his PhD thesis and the software that made his fortune was based on Bayesian theory.
