Italian Businessman's $24 Million Superyacht with a Pool Goes Up in Flames Weeks After Delivery
All seven crew members and nine passengers were able to safely evacuate after the fire broke out
Superyacht Aria SF went up in flames off the coast of Formentera, a small island in Spain, according to multiple reports.
Just weeks after being delivered late last month to Paolo Scudieri, an Italian businessman and car industry leader, the $24 million vessel caught on fire Thursday, The Guardian reported, citing search and rescue agency Salvamento Marítimo .
Although the massive yacht is thought to be unsalvageable, all seven crew members and nine passengers — none of whom have been identified — were able to safely evacuate and were not harmed, according to The Guardian . The cause of the fire remains unknown.
The search and rescue agency, which shared photos of the fire on social media, said that the yacht will be relocated to Ibiza.
Scudieri is the president of Adler-Hp Pelzer Group , which produces "acoustical and thermal components and systems for the automotive sector." PEOPLE has contacted Scudieri's company for comment.
Additionally, he is a participant in the Ferrari Challenge , a "competition for those who, not satisfied with just driving their Ferraris on the road, feel the urge to compete in top-level sprint races."
Scudieri is believed to have a fortune of around $500 million, according to The Guardian .

The Aria SF , which was set to make its public debut at the upcoming Cannes and Monaco yacht shows later this year, had plenty of luxurious amenities, according to SuperYachtTimes .
In addition to boasting an open-air gym as well as a swimming pool, the Aria SF was designed to accommodate up to 10 guests, the outlet reported. The owner's suite even had its own private lounge with a sofa and a television, with direct access to an outdoor lounge thanks to a private staircase.
A launching ceremony was held back in April, which included an orchestra and multi-colored confetti that resembled the Italian flag when shot out from a cannon, according to The Daily Mail .
"A heartfelt thanks to the owner who actively participated in the construction of this new model, enhancing it with innovation and technology," ISA Yachts, which made the vessel, wrote in a statement at the time.

Luxury yacht engulfed in ball of flames off Spanish coast
Share this with
This is the dramatic moment a luxury yacht caught fire off the Spanish island of Formentera.
Footage showed the 88-foot vessel engulfed in flames, with plumes of thick, black smoke billowing into the sky.
The Italian-designed cruiser was anchored off the beach of Es Cavall d’En Borràs in the Ses Salines Natural Park near where Hollywood A-lister Leonardo DiCaprio has been spotted partying in recent days.
Five crew members and 12 passengers scrambled to abandon the vessel in a race against the time.
Only one of the crew members, a 39-year-old Spaniard, suffered minor burns and needed hospital treatment, the regional emergency response coordinators said.
Onlookers gathered nearby in their own boats to watch the fire.
Flames could be seen spreading throughout the yacht in just a matter ofminutes, turning it into a fireball.
Local media reported that the vessel belonged to professional poker player Diego Gomez Gonzalez, aka ‘The Lion’, but this has not been confirmed by authorities.
It was not immediately clear this morning if the people on board were tourists who had chartered the yacht or guests of the owner.
Their nationalities have also not yet been made public either.
The alarm was sounded around 6pm on Saturday, with Spanish coastguards sent to the scene.
The yacht was towed further out to sea where the fire was put out.

New Superyacht Destroyed In Spectacular Blaze Off Formentera
2022 is not a good year to be a superyacht...

A pristine, white 44m superyacht now looks like the burnt bottom of a paella pan. The superyacht caught fire off the coast of Formentera on its first ever season on the Mediterranean. The crew and passengers all escaped unscathed, but the same can’t be said for the yacht.
Aria SF, a spanking new superyacht which was only delivered in July 2022, has been destroyed by fire while sailing off the coast of Formentera (a beautiful island just over 20km south of Ibiza). The yacht is 44m long. According to the area’s Maritime Rescue service, the 7 crew members and 9 passengers are all safe, having been rescued by the Maritime Rescue team.
The Maritime Rescue service also announced, some seven hours ago (as of the time of writing) that the fire had been almost completely extinguished. Diariodeibiza.es reports that the smoke could be seen from as far away as Ibiza. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

According to El Pais the call for help went out at about 5pm, and it was then that the Maritime Rescue service sent out the Salvamar Acrux and the Guaramar Concepcion Arenal, which went to exacuate passengers and crew from the striken vessell and to put out the flames. Once the fire is out, El Pais reports, the Guardamar Concepcion Arenal will tow what’s left of the burnt superyacht to Ibiza.
According to The Superyacht Times , the yacht had a swimming pool, several lounges, five bedrooms and a gym. Aria SF also, Boat International reports, “was the first hull in the ISA GT 45 series and was due to make her world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.”

Various superyachts have caught fire this year. The multi-million dollar 27 metre Sanlorenzo SX88, for instance, was destroyed in Valencia in April after an alleged fault occurred with the lithium batteries.
In January, too, a fire at Ferretti Shipyard in Cattolica destroyed what appeared to be the Ferretti Yachts 1000, with as many as five fire brigades being called to the scene.

Earlier this year DMARGE spoke to founder of BLC Yachts, Candas Balci , who has previously worked as a marina manager and a luxury yacht manager, to ask about superyacht protocols when it comes to fires. Balci told DMARGE that there are long procedures and trainings to avoid fires breaking out on board, “but at the end of the day all yachts are highly flammable.”
He added: “If it is fire you can put out in 3-5 minutes, it is always better to move the boat outside of [the] marina, far from other yachts and people, and continue your fire fighting somewhere safe.”
“Generally, this ends up with the yacht sinking, due to all the water pressured to the yacht to put down the fire. After the yacht is capsized, insurance companies come and check if it will be covered. Generally, they do, and lift out the burnt yacht in some dry dock to investigate the fire.” Candas Balci
“But they have some items on their policies to not pay the coverage, therefore everything on your yacht must be legal, starting from the flag registry, manning on board and crew certificates. Otherwise, there will be hard days for the owner to get his money from insurance.”

Major shipyard fire at Lürssen extinguished after 20 hours
A shipyard fire that broke out yesterday morning at Lürssen 's Rendsburg facilities has now been extinguished approximately 20 hours after the initial incident (3 July).
The blaze began in a shipbuilding hall at 9am local time, with eyewitnesses reporting multiple explosions, flames and columns of black smoke.
Lürssen has released an updated statement: "We will now begin the clean-up work step by step in coordination with the responsible authorities. Shipyard operations have been suspended for today and will be gradually restarted in designated areas of the shipyard site from tomorrow, depending on the circumstances. Employees will be kept informed of the latest developments."
A total of 400 emergency services and two rescue helicopters were called to tackle the flames. The Federal Agency for Technical Relief and a fire watch from the fire department are currently on site.
At the time, Lürssen released the following statement: "All necessary evacuation measures were initiated immediately. One person was slightly injured and is receiving emergency medical treatment. The fire brigade and police are on site. We are currently unable to say anything about the cause of the fire."
Local news reported that the fire began in a shed and spread to other areas of the yard, with the roof of the hall and the facade now partially collapsed. A superyacht under construction has also reportedly been damaged, though this is yet to be confirmed.
According to BOATPro , Lürssen has seven yachts currently in build at its facilities. This includes the 107-metre Project Icecap and the 142.1-metre Project Ali Baba , which caused its own incident in December 2023 when it collided with a drydock gate during a failed launch.
Authorities are now working on dropping the temperature in the building so that an investigation into the cause of the fire can begin. BOAT International will update the story as it develops.

A $24 million superyacht burned up just weeks after it was delivered to an Italian car parts boss, and the cause of the fire is still unknown
- A $24 million superyacht belonging to a multimillionaire Italian car industrialist caught on fire.
- Seven crew and nine passengers evacuated without injuries, but the superyacht is destroyed.
- It is still unknown what caused the fire and where it originated on the superyacht.
A $24 million superyacht, recently received by its multimillionaire owner, caught on fire and is not believed to be salvageable.
The 43.7 meter long superyacht belonged to Paolo Scudieri, the chairman of Adler-Hp Pelzer Group, an automotive parts company.
The Aria SF superyacht was anchored on the west coast of Formentera at Cala Saona in the Balearic Sea when it caught on fire, according to Spanish sea safety and rescue agency Salvamento Marítimo. The agency said the superyacht would be towed to Ibiza.
The superyacht had seven crew members and nine passengers onboard, and everyone was able to evacuate with no injuries. So far, its still unknown what caused the fire and where it originated on the superyacht.
The superyacht included five staterooms, including two VIP suites and two twin staterooms, that could hold up to 10 guests. Scudieri's suite , located on the main deck, included a private lounge, skylight, and a terrace. His suite also had an outdoor lounge that he could access with a private staircase.
Scudieri received his superyacht late last month. The Aria SF was set to premiere at the 2022 Cannes and Monaco yacht shows.

Horror moment £14million superyacht catches fire and sinks with 16 people on board
The superyacht is believed to have been owned by Getir co-founder Serkan Borançılı and reportedly originated in the vessel's engine compartment although an investigation has been launched
- 18:04, 13 Aug 2024
This is the shocking moment a £14million superyacht with 16 people on board caught fire off the Italian coast.
The Atina yacht was engulfed in flames on Saturday while it was moored in the Gulf of Olbia, on the island of Sardinia, Teams from nearby fire departments and the Italian coast guard raced to the area in a bid to save the tourists, all believed to be from Turkey.
Among those who were understood to be on board include the 154 foot-long yacht's owner Serkan Borançılı. Borançılıis a Turkish entrepreneur best known for co-founding the grocery delivery app Getir in 2015.
"My partner and friend Serkan Borançılı, with whom we founded Getir, unfortunately had his boat burnt down in Italy for an unknown reason," Getir CEO Nazim Salur said in an August 10 X/ Twitter post:
"The Borançılı family and crew are fine. Get well soon. I would like to take this opportunity to correct some of the mistakes in some of the posts."
Footage shared by Italy's coast guard showed the superyacht sinking while it was doused with an extinguisher in the port, also known as the "Billionaire's Playground." The yacht later sank about 22 feet and a clean-up operation was launched shortly afterward.
Fortunately, all 16 people on board the yacht were rescued, according to Mail Online . The outlet reported the yacht carried around 50,000 litres of fuel but that the Olbia Port Authority said no spills were detected.
It is belived that the fire began in the yacht's engine compartment, although an investigation has been launched to investigate the cause. The Atina was sold for more than £14million in 2021 and it had previously been awarded the World Superyacht Awards in 2009.
The yacht had five cabins, lounge areas and an entertainment system, according to MailOnline. It was priced at an estimated £187,892 per week to run an was operated in the French island of Corsica, just north of Sardinia.
The Mirror has contacted the Italian coast guard for comment.
Borançılı was dealt a blow earlier this year when Getir announced it would withdraw from the UK , Europe and US markets, putting an estimated 1,500 jobs at risk. The company will focus solely on its home market in Turkey, marking an end to its rapid expansion since the pandemic.
The firm, previously valued at £9.5billion, revealed it now only generates about seven per cent of its revenue outside of Turkey due to stalling international growth.

Massive Fire Destroys Building Hall & Luxury Yacht At Germany’s Lürssen Shipyard
A massive fire broke out at Lürssen shipyard early Tuesday morning (July 2, 2024), destroying a large building hall and a superyacht under construction.
The fire started at about 9:00 a.m. local time at the Schacht-Audorf manufacturing facility on the Kiel Canal and was eventually extinguished by the afternoon.
Over 300 firefighters, two evacuation helicopters, and multiple ambulances were dispatched to the area, with one person hospitalized for smoke inhalation and 24 others treated on-site.
Eyewitnesses reported many explosions as the fire spread quickly. Approximately 100 personnel were evacuated, while smoke over the city forced at least 30 citizens to leave the area.
The fireboats helped fight the fire, though operations on the Kiel Canal were temporarily halted. Despite restrictions, the site is expected to smoulder for several days.
According to unverified sources, the fire started on the luxury yacht Honolulu, a 246-foot vessel valued at $250 million and built for a Saudi tycoon.
Lürssen, however, has not validated this information.
A recent social media picture from Lürssen revealed a chrome-covered yacht in a dry dock , raising suspicion about its identity.
Firefighters could not enter the hall due to severe temperatures of over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit, so they had to fight the fire from the outside.
By mid-morning, the roof and some of the external walls of the 320-foot-long hall had collapsed.
Lürssen, a well-known constructor of large luxury yachts, issued a statement praising the fire crews, stating that the precise cause of the incident is unknown.
They assured that no serious injuries had occurred and declared that cleanup operations would begin immediately, with plans to restore shipyard activities gradually.
Lürssen, founded in 1875, owns and runs several shipyards in Germany, specializing in large ship construction and maintenance.
Following the demolition of a critical section of the yard, workers raised fears about job security.
Further reports from Lürssen stated that shipyard operations had been halted and would resume in certain areas on July 3.
The Federal Agency for Technical Relief and a fire watch team are on the scene, working to reduce temperatures to assist in the inquiry into the fire’s source.
According to local news, the fire started in a shed and spread, partially causing the hall’s roof and exterior to collapse.
One of the destroyed structures is a superyacht currently being built; however, specifics are unknown.
Lürssen is building seven yachts, including the 107-meter Project Icecap and the 142.1-meter Project Ali Baba, the latter of which was involved in a separate incident in December 2023.
The inquiry continues, and the story will be updated as additional information is available.
