Sultan Haitham’s Majestic Visit to Musandam: A Glimpse into Oman’s Leadership and Development

Khaled Al Ahmad

Watan-Omani social media users have circulated a video showing the arrival of the Sultan of the country, Haitham bin Tariq, aboard a luxurious royal yacht to the governorate of Musandam in the far north of the country.

This visit marks Haitham bin Tariq’s first to the governorate since assuming the country’s leadership in 2020, succeeding the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

The Omani News Agency reported that Sultan Haitham bin Tariq arrived in Musandam on Sunday for a tour to inspect the developmental, social, and economic aspects up close. He also met with the elders, dignitaries, members of the Omani Council, and municipal council members.

Sultan Haitham’s Visit to Musandam

According to the agency, this visit will lead to the implementation of several projects, including the Dibba-Lima-Khasab road and the new Musandam airport project to be located in the Wilayat of Khasab. Additionally, residential neighborhoods and city centers in the governorate will be developed.

In the circulated video captured by an Omani with his phone camera, several small boats carrying the flags of Oman and images of Sultan Haitham surrounded the luxurious royal yacht upon its arrival at the shores of Musandam.

The Omani Sultan appeared standing on the back of the yacht, waving his hand to the Omani people and greeting them. In another scene, Omani people in traditional attire were seen singing folk songs welcoming the Sultan, while artists played drums on the beach. Another artistic group performed dances and folk songs at the Musandam port square to welcome Sultan Haitham.

In a subsequent scene, Haitham bin Tariq was seen riding in a black Sultanate car, waving to Omanis through its windows. The car was surrounded by Omani police cars on a road where dozens of people and police personnel gathered.

Children in colorful attire were also seen waving the Sultanate flag, chanting national songs, and celebrating the arrival of Sultan Haitham.

The Sultan’s yacht, which transported Haitham, is one of the Sultanate’s support vessels, built by the Italian company Mariotti Yachts under the orders of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said. This luxurious yacht, specifically crafted for Sultan Qaboos, is ranked among the top 10 most expensive yachts in the world, with a price reaching millions of dollars.

Every transformer movie ranked by box office performance, alec baldwin movies ranked by box office performance., quick links, features of fulk al salamah, other notable specifications, vip and deck area.

We know that yachts are a symbol of wealth and success among the world's rich and famous. Besides having multiple mansions, ultra-luxurious private jets , and garages full of the world's fanciest and highest-performing sports vehicles, yachts are a complementary addition to the ensemble. Hollywood's celebrities are known for their extravagant yachts, such as Giorgio Armani and even Cristiano Ronaldo , but none of these can come close to the Fulk Al Salamah, which is owned by the Omani Royal Family of the House of Busaid, also known as the Al Said dynasty. The Al Said dynasty is found most commonly in the Dubai region, where most of the billionaires own large estates and other pricey possessions. Let's see what sets the Fulk Al Salamah aside from the rest of the other yachts in the world.

Yachts are characterized and coveted by the number of specifications they carry, including the maximum speed of the vessel's engine. For example, the French fashion tycoon, Bernard Arnault, has a mega yacht called the Symphony that spans 101 meters and is powered by a 4x MTU 16V4000M73 engine, and these are some of the features that have made it sought after. But the Fulk Al Salamah is in a league of its own. But to better understand the caliber of the mega yacht you're dealing with, you need to also know the caliver of the person/people who own it, who in this case is the Omani Royal Family. When it comes to unofficial royalty, this family isn't as flashy or as renowned as Queen Elizabeth and the English monarchy. Nevertheless, the Oman Family, who hail from southeastern Arabia, are as rich and as powerful as they come. They were once under the economic rule of the United Kingdom and India but regained economic independence in the late 1890s. Since then, they have reigned as sultans in the Busaid dynasty.

The Fulk Al Salamah may not be the longest yacht , but it is definitely among one of the more spacious luxurious yachts out there. According to Yacht Charter Fleet , the vessel's volume measured by gross tonnage is 22,000 GT (gross tonnage). The volume of a yacht is estimated by measuring from the keel to the funnel, and back to the outside of the hull framing. The enormous volume of the ship can easily give it the crown of the world's largest yacht by volume. However, that is yet to be made official, as the current holder for that title is the superyacht Dilbar, owned by Alisher Usmanov , which spans a gross tonnage of 15,917 GT.

Besides possessing an impressive gross tonnage, the Al Salamah mega yacht sports a crisp cream color with blue accents. In terms of speed performance, the vessel boasts 4 diesel 6-cylinder 9,177hp engines generating 750rpm and can reach a maximum speed of 22 knots. But if it's casually cruising the seas, it does an average of 15 knots. That's quite impressive for a yacht that is more voluminous in size than it is in length. But despite that fact, the Al Salamah measures a length of 508ft, and that's even bigger than Vladimir Putin's 490ft luxury yacht, which was unfortunately seized by the Italian government earlier this month.

RELATED: Mad Vlad: Putin's $700-Million Luxury Yacht SEIZED In Italy

Other than its massive size and length that can make one feel as though they're aboard a floating mansion, the Fulk Al Salamah is also decked with a few other remarkable features. The vessel was made to accommodate the newly elected Sultan of Oman since 2020, Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, and is fitted with gold-plated fixtures all throughout its interior, which is a feature that the wealthiest people in surrounding areas, like Dubai, have a fetish for. Inside the private vessel is an abundance of space, from a modernly designed movie theater and lounging room with polished wood-panel floors to an elegantly decorated, massive dining room area with marble tables and large paintings embellishing the walls. The dining room alone is likely bigger than most Los Angeles apartments!

Also available is a separate passageway for the crew, which amounts to around 130 persons for the vessel to operate optimally. There is also an enormous salon area fitted with dark brown and white wooden tables that are also gold-plated, in front of beige and white sofas. The overhead lighting fixtures portray an ambiance of golden heavenly bliss. This ship may not be the Titanic, but Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio could've definitely used it as a substitute. The conference room is laid out with a sprawling joint U-shape wooden table that spans the entire circumference of the room and is decorated with huge traditional vases and an overhead mirror in the center of the room. As it is a multi-layered yacht, there is also a beautifully-crafted winding staircase and elevator.

The VIP area looks like the inside of one of Jack Nicholson's many properties , with pristine white and cream flooring and seating space complimented by wooden doors, countertops, and cupboards. The bathroom areas are made of marble and large vanity mirrors. The same color scheme follows into the VIP suites, giving a warm and cozy feel with the brown and wooden aesthetics. Also available is a fully-functioning gym, beauty salon, and beach club as well as air conditioning throughout the entire vessel. The luxurious experience also extends to the deck where there is a modest pool area featuring a comfortable shaded lounging area, outdoor seating and dining, and a helicopter platform. At least getting stranded at sea won't be on the list of worries for the lucky passengers aboard the $500 million marvel!

A Closer Look at the $300 Million Superyacht Al Said

Have you ever wished that you could own your very own superyacht? Well, how about one that’s the 7th longest yacht in the entire world and accommodates more guests and even many more professional crew members than almost all of the other yachts in the world ? In fact, you might not even have enough friends on earth to fill this massive yacht! And, all you have to be is a Sultan to be able to afford it! Then, you could travel the oceans of the world in comfort and luxury and never have to go back home and live the regular life! Hmm, we can certainly dream about the good life, can’t we?

Built by Lurssen

According to Superyacht Times , the motor yacht Al Said was ordered in 2006 and then it was built by Lurssen . Her code name at that time was Project Sunflower during her construction. Once completed, she was named after her very wealthy owner. She’s one of the largest superyachts in the world , especially when measured by volume. She accommodates an amazing 65 guests plus 140 crew members and was designed by world-renowned yacht designer, Espen Oeino. She’s powered by two MTU marine engines that create a total of 22,000 horsepower for a cruising speed of 14 knots.

Delivered in 2008

The superyacht Al Said was delivered in 2008 to the Sultan of Oman. She replaced a smaller mega- yacht that, at one time, had the exact same name. At an amazing 155m, she has six exceptionally large decks and both her exterior and interior are quite striking. They were designed by Espen Oeino International. That’s actually the same company responsible for the designing of the 127m mega-yacht called Octopus.

A Steel Hull & 25 Knots to Boot!

The Al Said sports a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure. She has a beam of 24m (78.74ft) and a draft of 5.20m (17.06ft). This is a superyacht that’s capable of doing 25 knots flat-out and also has a cruising speed of 22 knots.

Lots of Guests & Crew

According to reports, this superyacht is capable of accommodating up to 70 guests and 154 professional crewmembers for ensuring the ultimate in relaxed luxury yacht experiences for all guests onboard. She also features a massive concert room that accommodates an entire 50-piece orchestra! Now, that’s something you probably won’t find on any other superyacht!

Based in Muscat

According to the Robb Report , the majority of the time, the Royal Yacht Al Said will be based in the Sultan Qaboos Port, which is near Muscat. When the royal yacht does travel anywhere, she does so with an escort and that escort is the Oman Navy. Now, how many yachts do you know of that have their own royal Navy escort?

About the Owner

The owner of the Royal Yacht Al Said is the Sultan of Oman (and all of its Dependencies) after rising to power by overthrowing his own father, Said bin Taimur during a 1970 palace coup. (What a nice guy, right?) He’s also the 14th-generation descendant of the Al Bu Sa’idi dynasty’s founder. Oman (aka the Sultanate of Oman) is, of course, an Arab country in the Middle East that lies on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula as well as on the Persian Gulf. As you may have already guessed, it’s an absolute monarchy, which was once known as the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman. It also once included portions of what is now the United Arab Emirates and certain parts of Pakistan. This also a country with very close ties to Saudi Arabia, often functioning as an impartial mediator between Saudi Arabia and countries like Qatar and Iran or Qatar. In addition, the country has a Royal Military Academy that is really highly-regarded.

The Sultan’s full title is Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said and, he also owns eight palaces and three luxury yachts. Besides the Al Said, he also owns the Loalat al Behar and the Fulk al Salamah. The Loaloat Al Behar was the prior Al Said, which was a gift to the Ministry of Tourism of Oman and has been recently refitted and repainted. The Fulk Al Salamah Yacht functions as a support vessel for the Royal Yacht Al Said. She was built in Italy at the Mariotti shipyard and delivered in 2016. At 150 meter (492 ft) she’s actually almost as big overall as the yacht Al Said and one of the largest superyachts worldwide.

Other Royal Toys

Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said is also the owner of a Boeing 747 private jumbo jet, (registration A4O-OMN), which was built in 2001. In addition, he owns another 747 that was built in 2012 (registration A4O-HMS). However, since it wasn’t painted with the ‘royal colors’, he mainly uses his older jet.

Sultan of Oman- Net Worth

Sultan Qaboos al Said’s net worth is estimated to be in excess of US$ 1 billion. (Not bad.)

Not For Charter

This yacht is not for charter. However, if you would like to see this yacht’s current location in real-time, just go to this site. That way, you could live vicariously thru the Sultan, his guests, and crew members. Sure, it would be better to be there but tracking its location just might have to suffice for today.

Loaloat Al Behar

Motor Yacht

Loaloat Al Behar is a 103.85m motor yacht, custom built in 1982 by Picchiotti. The mega yacht’s exterior design and engineering are the work of Picchiotti, whilst her interior is the work of Oman Rys. She was last refitted in Dubai in 2009.

The impressive yacht was built for the Sultan of Oman, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, and was originally named Al Said after the Omani Royal Family.

The mega yacht's name was changed to Loaloat Al Behar after the spectacular 155m motor yacht Al Said was delivered to the Sultan of Oman as her replacement. Loaloat Al Behar was later given as a gift from H.M. Sultan Qaboos to Oman’s Ministry of Tourism. Loaloat Al Behar has a steel hull and superstructure, with a generous beam of 16.20m and a 5m draft. The 103m mega yacht offers accommodation for up to 70 guests and is capable of carrying up to 156 crew members onboard. Powered by two main GM diesel engines, Loaloat Al Behar is capable of 18 knots flat out, with a cruising speed of 16 knots.

Impractical To Tactical: Omani Royal Yacht Transforms Into Navy Training Vessel

By Tyler Rogoway

Updated on Dec 1, 2019 7:09 AM EST

4 minute read

sultan of oman new yacht

The superyacht universe is intriguing due to its exclusivity alone, but there is some incredible engineering going into these ultra luxurious vessels. Sometimes that includes taking what was tactical and turning into the practical—or impractical when it comes to economic frugality. We have seen old frigate hulls reborn into new cutting-edge personal luxury liners. And sometimes, the reverse occurs—older yachts morph into military vessels. This is exactly the case with the Royal Navy of Oman’s Al-Mabrukah training ship.

Now wearing a muted gray paint scheme of the Royal Navy of Oman and stripped of any external signs of luxury, the vessel served a far different role up until recently.

The latest photo of Al-Mabrukah was posted on Twitter by Jeremy Binnie of Jane’s Defense Weekly:

Oman has converted an ex-royal yacht into a naval vessel called Al-Mabrukah pic.twitter.com/uFlXsfKvPf — Jeremy Binnie (@JeremyBinnie) November 5, 2018

The 340-foot long pleasure yacht was built by renowned Italian shipbuilder Picchiotti in 1982 for Sultan Qaboos bin Said. Its ornate interior was designed by local interior design group Oman Rys and it’s accouterments were largely preserved during an extensive refit in 2009. In fact, the ship’s motif looks similar to an Omani Royal Flight 747-SP of the same era. You can see a complete set of photos of the exterior and interior here .

The lineage of the ship itself, and especially the shell game of monikers it has sailed under, is as confusing as it is interesting. It was named for Al-Said for nearly 25 years. Whatever ship is serving as the principal royal yacht for Oman’s Sultan is always named Al-Said after the country’s ruling family. With only a small number of ships in the Royal Navy of Oman overall, the country routinely recycles other names, as well.

When Oman took delivery of the present Al-Said— a 508 foot long megayacht built by Germany’s Lurssen shipyard and delivered in 2008—it shifted this older yacht to the country’s Ministry of Tourism, where it gained the name Loaloat Al-Behar — translated  ‘Pearl of The Seas’ in English. Now, after the better part of a decade acting as a charter vessel, she has ended up joining in the Omani Navy as a training ship under the name Al-Mabrukah.

The previous Al-Mabrukah , which had the pennant number Q30, had itself served as the Al-Said yacht until 1983, when she also became a naval training ship. In 1997, Oman began using her a patrol ship and pulled the ship from service altogether in 2014. Cyprus bought that ship, renamed it the Alasia , and commissioned her in February 2017 (shown in the tweet below).

You can see exactly what the Loaloat Al-Behar interior’s interior looked like after her late 2000s refit in the awesomely bad charter promotion reel below. It was quite lavish considering the age of the hull, but in a nostalgic sense and was still dated in appearance by modern high-tech superyacht standards. The vessel was could fetch up to around $290,000 per week for exclusive charter excursions.

It remains unclear as to the current interior configuration of the yacht turned training ship or if it still serves in some sort of VIP, liaison, or entertainment role of any kind. In fact, the vessel appears to have been for sale for an unknown amount of money prior to it being ported over to the Royal Navy of Oman. Who knows, maybe for the right price the ship could be acquired today . But considering that Oman is supposedly happy gifting one of the world’s most expensive private jets to a friendly ruler , it’s not like the oil-rich sultanate really needs the money.

Still, with its helicopter landing pad, ample small boat storage, and plenty of space—during its charter days it could sail with a crew of 80 and up to 180 passengers for day excursions and 28 guests in 14 cabins on longer charters—maybe the newly minted Al-Mabrukah will end up serving as a naval patrol ship like its predecessor.

So there you have it, the Al-Said turned Loaloat Al-Behar turned Al-Mabrukah, yet another odd-ball story in the sometimes happy and sometimes tragic lives of the world’s largest yachts.
