CNB 62 : New forms, fresh thinking

Special identification. Huge aft deck, steering positions far forward, plus a targa bar above the cockpit

As the successor to the CNB 60, which has always sold well, the new ship from CNB has a difficult legacy to take on. To ensure a successful market launch, the shipyard has come up with some very exciting conceptual innovations in collaboration with the designers from Philippe Briand Yacht Design. For example, the developers have built the steering positions very far forwards and covered the cockpit with a targa bar. This not only takes the mainsheet out of the cockpit, but also serves as a base for an extended sprayhood or, as an extension, for a bimini. A hardtop and/or a fixed windscreen should also be possible as an option.

At the rear of the aft deck, there is a large open area for relaxing and sunbathing. The shipyard also has various design options in mind for this. The customer should be free to decide whether they want an additional seating area, a large sun lounger or simply an open space on the aft deck. Because the helm stations are mounted far forward, the sheets and lines are led back to the two large winches on the aft deck, where there is plenty of space for good, clear handling. The CNB 62 should also be easy to sail by a pair of owners, even without the help of a professional skipper.

The unusual design on deck is reminiscent of the creative and innovative layout of the Jeanneau Yachts 55 (test YACHT 12/2023), also a design from the studio of Philippe Briand Yacht Design. A dinghy three metres long can be stored in the stern between the two rudder shafts in the direction of travel. The dinghy can be launched and retrieved effortlessly thanks to a winch.

Three cabins and three bathrooms with shower

The interior design as a true deck saloon yacht provides for three very spacious double cabins, each with its own bathroom and shower. As in the predecessor model CNB 60, the galley of the new ship is also positioned at the front of the main bulkhead in a very generous arrangement. The layout aft is also exciting: the companionway is offset to starboard. This opens up the possibility of a passageway to the aft ship on the port side with separate entrances to the large aft cabins. The views of the interior fittings and the layout are available in the picture gallery above.

Like all CNB yachts, the new 62 is built from A to Z at the new Solaris Yachts production facility in Aquileia, northern Italy. The hull and deck are made as GRP sandwich constructions with a foam core using the vacuum infusion process. The CNB 62 has been announced as a world premiere for the boot trade fair in Düsseldorf in 2025. The shipyard has also already announced a price: the ship will cost 1,846,880 euros, gross including 19% VAT

To explore distant horizons.

The CNB 62 is the ideal synthesis between the space and comfort of a CNB 66 with the ease of use of a CNB Bordeaux 60. The helm stations have been moved forward giving greater protection and are integrated with the relaxation and living areas. All sail controls are brought back to the helms and the carbon arch frees the cockpit from the mainsheet.

The longitudinal annex garage is an integral part of the design, the door to which provides a wonderful bathing platform.
The interior design philosophy is focused on the owner with the master cabin forward – a concept directly inspired by our CNB 78. The saloon is open to the galley, which is centrally located, and the two large guest cabins are located aft and are accessed by a spacious entry.
This layout delivers CNB’s signature – a huge and luminous saloon as well as a very generous owner’s area. The guest suites are located aft helping to create a feeling of privacy for the owner.

The interior

The CNB 62 continues to assert the new CNB identity, with a layout plan and a style clearly different from other sailboats of this size.
Surprisingly spacious, very bright and functional, while retaining the French elegance of CNB, these characteristics will certainly make it a standout and noted model.

Interior configuration

A true three-cabin layout, the master occupies the entire area forward of the mast, freeing up unprecedented space for a 60 footer. An optional office can be integrated into the design of the owner’s suite. The kitchen being open to the saloon is both functional and sociable.

The aft cabins are both en-suite and are accessed via a passageway preserving the privacy of guests. The beds in the port cabin are mounted on rails so they can be configured as a double berth or two singles.

Blue-sky superyacht concepts range from pure fantasy to easily buildable. Here are our 10 favorites in the last year.

To stand out from the crowd, more and more superyacht buyers—many new to the market—are challenging designers to break molds, go extreme, and think way outside of the traditional box. And they’re doing it with head-spinning bow designs, huge windows, and much larger interior and exterior spaces.

They’re also trading traditional monohulls for big-volume catamarans and trimarans, taking inspiration from oddball places—an aircraft carrier or 1930s Hollywood-style automobile—and, at the same time, future-proofing them with new propulsion systems, including hydrogen fuel cells, solar power, and advanced battery power.

These 10 concepts, from a range of designers and studios, show that the future of superyacht design has never been more exciting—if at times a little bizarre.

Superyacht Concept Aware

Sinot, ‘Aware’

Not all superyachts need to look like multi-tiered wedding cakes. That’s according to Dutch studio Sinot Yacht, which has just penned conceptual renderings for a sleek, almost-minimalist cruiser called  Aware . Yes, the 262-footer does have the look of some super-stylish European river boat from the likes of Viking or Uniworld. But the aim here is to optimize the spaces experienced owners tend to use the most. Like the owner’s suite on the main deck, which in  Aware  spans the full beam and totals over 860 square feet. Then there’s the super-size beach club with its twin fold-out terraces, gym, bar, cinema, 36-foot-long pool, and glass-sided dining area. As for power, Sinot envisions a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system good for a 21 mph max, and a 4,000 nautical mile range at 14 mph.

Superyacht Concepts Mission Icon Yachts

Icon Yachts, ‘Mission’

Ice-breaking, globe-trotting expedition yachts are nothing new for Holland’s Icon Yachts. Its rugged, 224-foot, converted ice-breaker  Ragnar  literally wrote the rule-book on building high-latitude-friendly luxury superyachts. But Icon’s concept for a brand-new, ultimate explorer it’s calling  Mission  adds Indiana Jones–levels of off-the-grid exploration. Designed by Dutch explorer-yacht specialist Bernd Weel,  Mission  is all towering, ice-crushing bow, trademark geometric hull sides, and endless space for all that adventure-seeking gear. Here we’re talking six tenders of all sizes, a three-person submersible, an Airbus H130 helicopter, and space midships for a multitude of shipping containers for when you want to become the next Jacques Cousteau. As for range, Icon would target over 6,000 nautical miles.

Superyacht Concepts Waugh Decadence

Andy Waugh Yacht Design, ‘Decadence’

Flick through the pages of any automotive history book and you’ll notice that 1930s design is dominated by the outrageous, teardrop-fendered creations of the French duo of Figoni et Falaschi. Their designs look to be the inspiration behind London-based designer Andy Waugh’s jaw-dropping concept for a 264-foot catamaran he quite aptly calls  Decadence . Featuring a central hull flanked by four teardrop-like pods, the concept evolves the idea of so-called SWATH catamaran hull design used in a number of oil-platform support, research vessels, and even some superyachts. Providing immense stability through reduced roll and pitch, the design makes perfect sense for a superyacht. One drawback: the yacht’s massive, marina-unfriendly 98-foot beam. Though that becomes a positive when you consider  Decadence ‘s vast owner’s suite measures 66 feet wide and almost 100 feet long.

Superyacht Concepts Oceanco

Oceanco, ‘Aeolus’

When the Dutch superyacht maestros at Oceanco release a blue-sky design, the concept is likely just a few steps away from reality. Fresh from delivering the 410-foot  Koru , the world’s largest sailing yacht, to new owner Jeff Bezos, and the 357-foot  Seven Seas  to Steven Spielberg, Oceanco has unveiled  Aeolus , a concept for a highly sustainable 430-foot gigayacht. Drawn by former Rolls-Royce head of design Giles Taylor, this curvaceous, quad-deck world cruiser looks to the future by incorporating Oceanco’s Energy Transition Platform (ETP) philosophy. The propulsion could start with diesel-electric power, with battery banks charged by twin MTU V16 diesel generators. Then, as technologies advance, it could more to more advanced fuel types such as methanol or other, even wilder technologies like nuclear power.

Superyacht concepts Star Trek

Anthony Glasson, ‘Star Trek’

Designed to boldly go across oceans, this concept for a massive 275-foot trimaran is said to have been inspired by Hong Kong–based designer Anthony Glasson’s love of the TV show “Star Trek”—especially the Starship  Enterprise . Viewed bow-on, you can see why: The slender, wave-piercing bow, the twin side hulls, and rounded glass upper observation deck have USS  Enterprise  written all over it. But the trimaran form definitely adds to its function, with the wide beam creating an expansive “courtyard” that’s part enclosed and part open, housing a hot tub—one of three aboard—a gym, a bar, sunpads galore and even a helipad-turned-dancefloor. Glasson envisions the trimaran to be built of lightweight aluminum, with a 5,000-nautical-mile range. Captain Kirk would be impressed.

Concept Superyachts Pegasus

Jozeph Forakis, ‘Pegasus’

Until now, arguably the ultimate stealth boat was the one in the 1997 James Bond romp  Tomorrow Never Dies , owned by tyrannical media mogul Elliot Carver. That would change if the 289-foot concept  Pegasus , from the computer screen of N.Y.C.-born and now Milan-based designer Jozeph Forakis, gets a production go-ahead. It features a superstructure comprising three over-lapping “wings” with metallic surfaces designed to reflect the sky and the clouds, rendering the superyacht near-invisible. The “wings” also do double duty as solar panels generating energy that would be used to convert sea water to hydrogen. Fuel cells would then turn the hydrogen into electricity that would be then stored in banks of lithium-ion batteries, making Pegasus essentially emissions-free with a virtually infinite cruising range.

Superyacht Concepts Plectrum

Lazzarini, ‘Plectrum’

Why fly through the water when you can fly on top? That’s the thinking behind Rome-based Lazzarini Design’s radical 243-foot hydrofoiling superyacht concept named  Plectrum . Massive foils deploy from the sides of the yacht’s rounded carbon-fiber hull, while a trio of 5,000 hp engines would elevate the yacht out of the water and punch it to a top speed of over 80 mph. It’s a similar concept used in the latest America’s Cup AC75 foiling monohull sailboats, along with a crop of electric powerboats and surfboards. Applying the technology to a 243-foot superyacht is what’s new and possibly technically impossible, at least for now. Other stand-out features of this bright-orange flyer include a helicopter garage beneath the mile-long foredeck and a garage for your supercar at the stern.

Superyacht concepts Phantom Vesper

Phantom and Golden Yachts, ‘Vesper’

When it comes to next-generation superyacht design, it seems glass is fast becoming the new steel. Take the collaboration between the design team at Holland’s Phantom Studios and Athens-based superyacht builder Golden Yachts. The 213-foot concept they’re calling  Vesper  features five levels of floor-to-ceiling structural glass, a glass floor in the yacht’s upper deck lounge, and a glass-sided swimming pool. Connecting the beach club to the pool is a huge, high-lifting hatch that’s, what else, all glass. Now head to the owner’s “suite”—it’s more like a two-level penthouse in a Miami skyscraper—and it features floor-to-very-high-ceiling glass that floods the space with light. To catch some real rays, the full-deck suite features not one, but two outdoor terraces.

Superyacht Concepts DeBasto MED

DeBasto Design, MED

Think of this as a 301-foot dayboat with the emphasis on outdoor, alfresco, lounge-in-the-sun, Mediterranean living. From the drawing board of Miami-based designer Luiz de Basto, Project MED features uninterrupted, bow-to-stern open teak decks topped with a huge upper superstructure supported by just four columns. And to ensure the superstructure doesn’t dominate the superyacht’s sleek lines, de Basto covered it in reflective glass so that it almost disappears from view by mirroring its surroundings. The designer says his inspiration came from the idea of “Agora,” named after the squares in Ancient Greek villages where everyone congregated. Aboard Project MED, that could be on the main deck, around the oversized pool at the stern, or on the vast open foredeck.

Superyacht Concepts UAE One

Enzo Manca, ‘UAE One’

There are superyachts designed to look like military warships. Some even are shaped to look like navy submarines. But here’s a first; a superyacht inspired by the lines of an aircraft carrier. The 459-foot  UAE One  is from the fertile mind of Milan-based designer Enzo Manca who created the concept for an unnamed United Arab Emirates sheikh looking to create an official UAE flagship. Without a doubt, the design highlight is the yacht’s runway-like main deck. It features not one, but three helipads, a conning tower-like, four-level structure on the starboard side, a geometric-shaped pool and a huge circular “conversation pit” right on the bow, complete with cozy sofas and a firepit. Accommodations over nine decks include five “super suites”, eight master cabins, 14 mini apartments, and 35 cabins for the crew of 65.

This true-custom yacht with an unmistakable pursuit: to make on-board life uniquely pleasurable   Delivered in May of 2022, the magnificent CRN M/Y RIO is the latest true-custom steel and aluminium superyacht by CRN, an entirely bespoke nautical work of art. The taut, flowing hull lines and near-vertical bow bear striking testament to her remarkable elegance and dynamic, sporty personality.   The new 62-metre beauty is the fullest expression of the Ancona yard’s artisanal skill, design expertise and fine construction quality. She was designed and built by CRN in close collaboration with design and architecture studio Omega Architects , who created the exterior concept, and designers Pulina Exclusive Interiors for the styling inside.   TWW Yachts is representing the owner, while TWW Yacht Management has provided integral technical consultancy with survey and project management oversight throughout the final stages of construction and onward through her operational management.   Created to her owner’s vision, CRN M/Y RIO exudes a supreme harmony between the ample interior and exterior spaces, evoking a strong sense of fluidity, an impression of even greater volume and a perceptual and functional unity between inside and out.   The generous full-height windows form a visual continuum in sync with the elegant exterior architecture. They offer a delightful play of reflected shimmer, bathing the spaces in light and enabling constant direct contact with the sea. The main aft deck profile revels in the harmony of designer Frank Laupman’s signature arches, which protect the deck and assure guests’ privacy while framing superb views from the side and stern.   At 62 metres long and 11.2 metres in the beam, this 4-deck yacht comfortably accommodates up to 12 guests in the owner’s suite and 5 guest cabins. These are comprised of 2 full-beam VIPs – one on the main deck forward, the other on the lower deck – and 3 suites on the lower deck, namely 2 doubles and a twin, served by a lift to all decks. There are also 9 cabins for the 15 crew.   This true-custom yacht has an unmistakable pursuit: to make on-board life uniquely pleasurable. The owner can enjoy the harmonious distribution and quality of the spaces, with a smooth, fluid layout designed specially to unite the many large indoor and outdoor living areas seamlessly in masterly style, where natural light reigns supreme.   The magnificent outdoor spaces are conceived as multipurpose areas for relaxing and sociable moments. This wealth of spaces includes the stern lounge with bright, airy al fresco dining facilities or the lounge at the bow on the owner deck with a generous spa pool and sun area for fitness use and parties. Not to mention the wellness lounge with water toys aplenty at the beach club, or the huge spa pool and cinema zone aft on the wheelhouse deck. All these areas are ideal for spending memorable moments enjoying the open-air lifestyle to the fullest with family and friends. The entire superyacht is tailored to create an extraordinary personalised cruising experience steeped in freedom and privacy. The owner can savour the seclusion of their own private deck or dive into the buzz of the sizeable social areas.   CRN M/Y RIO reflects an advanced contemporary concept of on-board living. The comfort is set off with sublime details selected with absolute care, where exquisite materials mingle with specially developed colour combinations. The owner expressly requested bright, colourful spaces and a happy atmosphere for the younger family members to enjoy. A vibrant concept has been developed with a tropical mood, where the prevailing upbeat white tones, pure lines and natural materials are set off by a judicious mix of lively pops of colour and vivid décor inspired by exotic motifs. The white walls harmonise with the marine palette, from pastel turquoise to the varying shades of azure for the furnishings and textiles in custom textures. And delightful details – in tones of blue and fuchsia or green and grey – further embellish every deck.   The preferred woods are American walnut and white lacquered oak in staves, selected respectively for the floors and walls all through the yacht. Crema d’Orcia and Calacatta Vagli Oro marbles grace the bathrooms, chiming with the predominant light hues. The most vivid notes come from other marbles: the blues of the Azul Macauba in the saloons and the mossy Irish Green in the outdoor American bars light up the spaces with colour combinations in marine-inspired moods.   Imaginative stylish details and custom artworks permeate all the decks with character. Sumptuous wallpapers and jungle-style decorations, like the hand-painted panels in the owner’s lobby, create vibrant, joyous, endlessly fascinating effects.   The yacht’s interiors are by Zago S.p.A , a Ferretti Group company established over a century ago as a small artisanal carpentry workshop. Zago is now a major player in bespoke naval furnishings and a champion of Italian manufacturing excellence.   As with the owner suite, all the guest areas and cabins come with the very latest smart-automation technology. This allows guests to control and personalise the air conditioning system, the opening and closing of the curtains, the lighting – from the brightness to switching on and off – and, naturally, all the audiovisual kit. MAIN DECK   The main-deck spaces are fully integrated inside and out in a harmonious flow that bestows a clear sense of openness and continuity. The finishes and decoration form a seamless continuum throughout, in areas that are relaxing yet hospitable for a social experience that runs through the yacht.   The cockpit hosts a large, comfortable open-air living space with a versatile layout that highlights the owner family’s desire for quality time together. This lounge and welcome area features furnishings by contemporary Italian design brands with a colour palette that plays with natural elements like the sea and sky, fusing in unison with the tropical mood.   A sliding glass door unveils the palatial main saloon. This multipurpose space makes a superb social and dining area; a remarkable emblem of this 62-metre yacht’s character, it offers a strong, immediate sense of spaciousness. The many full-height windows afford spectacular sea views and make this an especially luminous space. Among the sophisticated materials, the white lacquered oak takes pride of place on the walls alongside some magnificent cotton wallpapers in shades of white, framed by understated pastel turquoise lacquered profiling. Like a neutral tableau enlivened by splashes of colour, the white furnishings juxtapose with elements in shades of azure and strikingly colourful jungle-inspired custom artworks on the walls to create an exuberant, dynamic feel.   Guests are welcomed by an American bar at the entrance, which becomes a bridge between the indoor and outdoor lounge areas. Made of sought-after Azul Macauba marble with blueish veining, it harmonises to perfection with the prevailing palette. The dining area is designed for more formal moments. Its centrepiece, an impressive totally bespoke round drum table, seats 8 people and can swiftly extend to accommodate up to 12. The single central element at the base supporting the dark-oak top is finished in sublime white leather, setting off the leather chairs with backs in dark-brown tones and seats in two shades of white for an attractive play of chromatic allusions. At the far end of the main saloon, the living area with welcoming sofa and 83" TV is an ideal spot for guests to relax and for the youngsters to play games uninhibited.   Further along the deck, the central lobby revolves around the elegant staircase in bleached pickled oak. Linking all levels of the yacht, this object of design is functional yet beautiful, embellished with white-leather wall coverings with continuous stitching for an extremely smooth quilted look. Also in the lobby, the lift serving all decks has mirrored walls with a decorative 3D effect and an American walnut floor with Crema d’Orcia marble inlay.   A short corridor leads to the VIP cabin and past the large, highly functional galley with professional equipment, as used by top Michelin-starred chefs. The full-beam VIP cabin is grand enough to be considered a second owner suite. Here, a capacious walk-in wardrobe opens on to another very luminous space in white tones and bright-blue profiling, complete with relaxation zone and desk area. Guests can work there in absolute comfort and peace even while cruising – an amenity offered in all the larger cabins, at the owner’s direct request.   In the middle, the king-size bed has a white-leather headboard with 3D fish-scale effect, a detail that appears in different guises on the bedheads in every cabin. The eye is drawn to the distinctive wallpaper made of bamboo interwoven with silver thread and cotton, a symphony of nuanced blues with a delectable texture. Rounding off the VIP cabin, the twin bathrooms each feature a shower and full amenities, set off with prime materials like Crema d’Orcia marble.   At the bow, the full-beam garage accommodates two jet skis, an array of toys for all the family and guests to enjoy, an 8-metre Pascoe Beachlander tender and a second tender of almost 5 metres for the crew that also acts as a rescue boat. In addition, there is also a 14 - meter SACS Rebel 47 tender chase boat.   LOWER DECK   On the lower deck, the beach club is a multipurpose lounge area looking right on to the sea, equipped with a spectrum of water toys for unrivalled aquatic enjoyment. Designed to offer moments of togetherness and fun, both indoors and out, the area receives extra illumination from the four large lanterns in the floor of the deck above, which light up the blues and greens of the marine-style furnishings and nature-inspired wallpaper. Besides the wellness area which house a hammam and shower, there is a lounge with bright, cheerful floating poufs shaped like starfish for guests to enjoy with a large TV that doubles as an interactive whiteboard for games and other entertainment.   Down from the main-deck lobby to the lower deck, a fully equipped gym forms a keep-fit zone in combination with the bow area. The 4 guest cabins with private bathroom comprise 1 full-beam VIP, 2 identical doubles and a twin with third Pullman bed, all with white lacquered-oak staved walls pepped up with dashes of colour. In seamless harmony with the various decks’ interior style and materials, each guest cabin is finished differently, personalised with its own colour scheme – red/brown, green/blue and pastel green – for the wall panels, profiling and furnishings. In the bathrooms, the Crema d’Orcia marble echoes the relaxing light tones that pervade the entire yacht. Special mention must be made of the large, luminous full-beam VIP cabin: a walk-through wardrobe partitions the sleeping area complete with ample study and a bathroom with twin sinks.   The spacious crew quarters toward the bow are laid out along a central corridor, including a pantry and 7 generous cabins with contemporary fittings, finishes and materials.   OWNER DECK   With 323 sqm for the owner’s exclusive use, this deck is notable for its harmonious symmetries, its great openness to the sea, and its eclectic blend of spaces with privacy uppermost in mind.   To the stern, a fabulous al fresco dining area links to the sky lounge for an unforgettable indoor–outdoor experience. The area includes a lounge zone for relaxed interactions and features some of Italy’s most prestigious design brands. The centrepiece is a custom-made round dining table identical to the one in the main-deck lounge. Ideal for breezy lunches and dinners, the table is a unique piece made with outdoor-friendly premium materials and finishes, like the bright steel apron and natural-teak top. The greens and whites of the furniture and fittings provide a custom look, recalling the colours of the American bar top with barbecue in exquisite Irish Green marble with striking bright-green veining. Linked via sinuous walkways both aft to the main deck and wheelhouse deck and to the outer deck at the bow, the area transforms easily into an open-air party zone with DJ console. With the console connected to the ship’s Domotics system, the audio can be broadcast throughout the yacht, indoors and out, in a controlled way. A custom designed RGB lighting installation completes the party effect.   Automatic sliding glass doors unveil the huge sky lounge, another space with a layout that reveals the different facets to its character. Bathed in light from the hull windows, it offers breath-taking sea vistas for the eye to dive right into. This multifunctional living space can be used as a social zone and cinema for relaxation and fun, as a games room for younger guests, or as a meeting room to work in complete comfort and privacy. As in the main saloon on the deck below, the walls and furnishings here also have neutral and white background tones. Superb details, finishes and features in shades of pastel turquoise – like the Azul Macauba marble top on the furniture unit at the bow and the exquisite raffia wallpapers – add to the marine mood running through the yacht.   Towards the bow, the owner suite lobby draws the eye with 3 magnificent hand-painted artworks on the walls. Created at the owner’s direction, these bespoke concept pieces depict a veritable jungle full of colourful animals.   The exclusive owner suite is a sophisticated haven of privacy. These palatial spaces with 180° windows offer peerless sea views, creating a powerful sense of openness and glorious luminosity. At the entrance, a walk-through wardrobe leads to a beautifully lit bathroom made with premium materials, from Calacatta Vagli Oro marble on the walls to the Crema d’Orcia marble floors. A unique feature is a spectacular tub by the windows for enjoying the view from the comfort of a warm bath. In the owner’s suite, the white tones of the lacquered oak on the walls set off the various shades of bright blue in the finishing and furnishings, like the antique-blue leather top on the furniture running around the windows. At the heart of the room, the fully custom king-size bed features a white-leather headboard with a 3D effect from the vertical petrol-blue leather inlay. To port, the study area has a desk made to the owner’s precise specifications: it can rotate by 90 degrees into an L-shape, so he can always enjoy a sea view while he works.   At the bow, the striking entirely open-air lounge spanning 115 sqm leads directly off the master cabin. Full privacy is always assured, as the area is secluded and out of the crew’s eye line. Here, a lounge area features a teak pool, recessed for privacy from the helm station and to be out of the wind when cruising; a canopy protects it from the sun when required. This great multipurpose outdoor space can also be opened up to guests and for parties, as a stunning dance floor under the stars.   The deck’s raison d’être – total privacy – is underlined by the design of the mooring area below, conceived so that on-board staff must access it directly from the crew zone, avoiding the owner’s private spaces.   WHEELHOUSE DECK   The wheelhouse deck hosts a spacious outdoor area for guests to relax in the spa zone and have fun in the sun. The fully custom pool is a welcome feature, raised and with a conveniently integrated sun pad along one side. This highly versatile area becomes a fully equipped open-air private cinema with a big screen and projector that slide down from the ceiling; it can also host lively karaoke evenings with friends. The outdoor lounge with comfy sofas includes an American bar with waterside seats; the beautiful Irish Green marble top forms a chromatic continuum with the one on the owner deck below.   Forward through the lobby past the captain’s cabin, the integrated helm station has a commanding position and excellent visibility. It vaunts 5 interchangeable screens and all the latest on-board technology; sliding panels on the Fenix top conceal the instruments when not in use. The helm leads to the spacious first officer’s cabin.   The yacht has a top speed of 15 knots and cruises at 12 knots, courtesy of her twin Caterpillar 3512C ACERT engines outputting 1,230 kW @ 1,800 rpm. The yacht is IMO Tier III-certified [1], assuring drastic reductions of 70% in harmful emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the engine exhaust.   M/Y RIO will make her debut with a world premiere at the Monaco Yacht Show from 28 September to 1 October 2022. Barracuda Yacht Design Reveals 62 Metre "Military Inspired" Superyacht Concept

Barracuda Yacht Design has revealed a 62 metre military-inspired motor yacht concept.

Featuring naval architecture and exterior design penned in-house, the yacht sports “OCD” straight lines, "right angles and symmetry".

Spread out across five decks with an 11.2 metre beam, the yacht is focused on “strength, a sense of purpose and confidence”.

The studio described the design as “a yacht with attitude” and revealed “the objective was to make the best use of the space available”, resulting in an interior volume of 1140GT.

Key features include a large fixed swim platform and swimming pool aft, which forms part of the yacht’s fully serviced wellness centre, complete with a sauna and hairdressing salon.

A ‘convertible’ dining area for 12 can be found in the main saloon, with side windows that can be completely lowered for an al fresco eating experience. With the windows lowered, this space resembles the “patio of a contemporary-designed luxury villa” the studio said.

Accommodation on board is for a maximum of 14 guests and 18 crew. The captain’s cabin sits behind the bridge while a “lavish” VIP can be found on the upper deck, complete with its own private, enclosed terrace.

The dedicated owner’s deck is located above the upper deck and features 360 degree views and its own lounge and aft terrace.

Power comes from two 1800HP engines for a top speed of 16 knots, cruising speed of 14 knots and economical speed of 11 knots for a range of 7,000 nautical miles.

7 Bold New Superyacht Concepts We Want to See on the Water

From yachts that run on hydrogen fuel cells to a vessel with a bonkers new sailing rig, these designs may well be the future of yachting..

7 Bold New Superyacht Concepts We Want to See on the Water

With record demand for new yachts by ever-younger owners, designers have been busy with fresh concepts. These seven concepts go far beyond tweaking the beach club or adding a few windows. They flirt with hydrogen fuel-cell propulsion, glass-bottomed swimming pools to light lower decks, and even hidden pilothouses using augmented reality to navigate the yacht.

What’s more, they explore much larger concepts of the use of space, and how owners and guests actually use the superyachts. Three-deck glass atriums, huge piazzas and nature parks bring new opportunities for life on board—and free up the imagination to explore possibilities.

Kairos By Oceanco, Pininfarina and Lateral

concept 62 yacht

Kairos , officially launched by Oceanco at September’s Monaco Yacht Show , is a new way of thinking about onboard life. The 295-foot design combines asymmetric shapes, transparent structures and few physical barriers, all culminating in its vast piazza, which is the most dramatic area of this forward-thinking concept. The Dutch yacht builder partnered with Italian design firm Pininfarina, with technical assistance from Lateral Naval Architects.

Beyond the beautiful spaces—including a number of suites on the lower decks, and a panoramic balcony on the top deck, the hull has an asymmetric shape, with no clear bow, so it can move in opposite directions. The design team choose to think of Kairos as a “living, floating island,” rather than a conventional superyacht. “A 360-degree approach to design at once connects you to the sea below, to the light above and to the spaces and people beside you,” said Paolo Pininfarina, regarding the concept. “It nourishes your curiosity on an instinctive level and encourages you to explore new experiences and perspectives.”

The yacht also has sustainability in mind, with all-electric propulsion in its diesel-hybrid configuration. The e-Hybrid architecture permits extensive operation with no noise, lower vibrations and zero local emissions.

Alice by Lürssen

concept 62 yacht

German boatbuilder Lürssen has ventured down the rabbit hole with its first ever superyacht concept, the 321.5-foot Alice . Inspired by Alice in Wonderland , the five-deck climate-neutral yacht features a floating, pod-like superstructure, which houses the owner’s deck and bridge, and an open-air main deck. “The design takes inspiration from the small ferries in Amsterdam where the captain sits in a pilot deck above, and below is a passage way for people to pass through,” Jim Sluijter, lead exterior designer told Robb Report.

A full-sized Padel court sits aft, with a dance floor, bar and dining area amidships, and forward a Japanese-themed garden with ponds, greenery and a bridge. A floating glass-bottomed pool suspended across an opening in the sun deck adds wow factor. Powered by emission-free fuel cells that generate electrical energy based on hydrogen, Alice is also equipped with a methanol engine for higher speed and energy demands. A waste heat recovery system, organically farmed wood and eight lower deck guest suites complete the offering, with interior design by Dasha Moranova Designs.

Apache Concept by Tankoa

concept 62 yacht

Tankoa Yachts introduces a new technical platform with its 249-foot T760 Apache concept. Key to the design is a 31-foot “flying” glass-bottomed pool suspended in the bow between the upper deck and main deck; it begins at the foot of the bed in the owner’s suite and filters light into the semi-open lounge and gym on the deck below.

The lower deck beach club with folding side terraces delivers over 1,300-square-feet of chic resort space and the yacht’s second pool. When the folding platforms are closed, one-way glass the same color as the hull creates a private lounge area with views out to sea. “We created a gym and wellness space on two levels for the guests to enjoy,” designer Alberto Mancini told Robb Report. “We also wanted to avoid the typical dark cave effect found on many beach clubs.”

But the best seat in the house is reserved for the cozy observation lounge or crow’s nest with panoramic vistas high above the water, ideal for enjoying the last rays at sunset.

Scintilla by Tillberg Design

concept 62 yacht

At 393 feet, Scintilla is a modern voyager conceived for world cruising. We recently reported on her sister concept, Mimer . A collaboration between DreamLiner Yachting, IYC, Tillberg Design of Sweden and Laurent Giles Naval Architects, the concept is designed to welcome 36 guests and 44 crew and puts fuel-efficiency at the fore. Scintilla can accommodate hybrid engines, as well as a combination battery and alternative fuel system, and eco-conscious materials have been used on the interior and exterior spaces. However, all eyes are on the smorgasbord of explorative toys and tenders, which blows the standard wakeboard and paddle board offering out the water. The dedicated toy area has room for a seaplane, submarine, foldable catamaran, expedition RIBS, amphibious and land vehicles, jet skis, quads and a helicopter. At the end of a long day, a multi-level owners’ suite, comprising the aft portion of the bridge and heli-decks, opens onto a private deck complete with Jacuzzi and infinity pool to rejuvenate aching muscles.

Merveille 253W by Merveille Yachting

concept 62 yacht

The 253-foot Merveille 253W is a sailing yacht with a difference. With a focus on reducing fuel consumption and increasing efficiency, the explorer concept, produced in partnership with Feadship, features a new wind-assisted propulsion system that doesn’t require rigging. Designed by AYRO, the fully automated Oceanwings can rotate 360 degrees, have an adjustable camber and twist and can retract when furled. When under sail using the Oceanwings, underwater turbines regenerate the kinetic energy to recharge the battery packs. The yacht is also equipped with wind turbines and solar panels for additional sources of renewable energy. A large, uncluttered deck space combined with a 63-foot beam creates a sense of calm. A sunken swimming pool on the bow is the matching Zen detail.

One 50 by Meyer Yachts

concept 62 yacht

Startup brand Meyer Yachts recently announced a new concept called One 50, which is a 150-meter (492-foot) six-deck superyacht that will have accommodations for 44 guests, a two-level spa, a real movie theater with adjoining billiard room, an entertainment area with a stage, an art gallery and a huge infinity pool. Oh, and it will be powered by fuel cells and battery banks, so will generate zero carbon emissions. The system will generate 25,000 kilowatts giving this gigayacht a maximum speed of 23 knots.

Pure by Feadship

concept 62 yacht

Feadship’s 268-foot Pure , also unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show, has at least one revolutionary feature—it places the traditional pilothouse below-decks, in a cabin that uses augmented-reality visualization that connects with radar, AIS, maps, depth sounders and cameras. That will allow the captain to see everything virtually—perhaps more than looking through the windshields of the pilothouse—with all necessary navigation information at hand. This kind of helm has been used on naval vessels like submarines, but never on a superyacht. Feadship said that the concept was embraced by many captains, particularly younger ones who are comfortable with technology.

Pure also has other breakthrough designs like a three-deck elliptical glass atrium, retractable glass-bottomed Jacuzzi amidships, and a large beach club with three fold-down balconies aft and both sides. Located half inside, half out, the atrium incorporates large slabs of glass to provide a clear line of sight across three of the five decks. Filling the interior with natural light, the vast central space means guests must look to private balconies for privacy.

Pure was also designed with flexible “energy-hybrid” propulsion that would evolve over time. From diesel electric in 2024, to hydrogen in 2027, to all-methanol fuel cells in 2030, the concept is designed to respond to advancing technology, depending on which sustainable fuels become most viable.

EXPLORER 62

The theme that characterises the new Explorer 62 is its innovative layout, designed to improve life on board for its guests.

The key feature that strongly identifies it is the choice of the forward driving position, as in an explorer super yacht. The bow is the wettest and windiest place on the moving boat and also most prone to oscillation caused by wave motion.

As a result, having the helm station located in a more forward position makes navigation easier and safer.

This choice allowed us to offer a spacious cockpit, with an area covered by the fly which is furnished with a large dining table and an open area that can be fully customised, with sofas and accessories which can be moved and arranged as desired.

MAXIMUM SAFETY ON BOARD

IMG_9899.jpg

LIFE-SAVING BULB  The straight hull with life-saving bulb, completely watertight and insulated, has the function of breaking any objects that get in the way of the yacht's navigation such as logs, floating objects, containers and any ice formations. The bulb is made entirely of fibreglass, located in the lower front part of the boat, and is designed to protect the hull and the Volvo Penta IPS pods.  DOUBLE SYSTEMS AND DOUBLE ANCHORS  Bilge and autoclave pumps, double anchor system, two winches and two 50 kg steel anchors. With her double systems, she is the only vessel under 20 metres to have a large-ship anchorage system. FLY ACCESS  Explorer has a flybridge access ladder in the starboard area. Spacious steps provide a comfortable and safe passage between the main deck and the flybridge, without compromising the view when manoeuvring. VISIBILITY  The main steering station is in a forward position towards the bow, the windscreen is made from a single piece of glass with a 180-degree view, to maximise the helmsman's visibility. Two additional helm stations are located on the flybridge and aft.  LATERAL RESTRAINTS  Gunwales from bow to stern, higher than most yachts, to ensure lateral safety as in a large ship. STRUCTURAL TANKS  Certified structural fuel and fresh water tanks which are tested to improve hull stability and strength. (2800 Lt fuel, 1000 Lt water)   FULL STABILITY SYSTEM  The boat is equipped with a unique stability system, through 24 V electrical operation, consisting of carbon fins and flaps which are governed by a specially designed software. The software is constantly learning and evolving, collecting information and navigation data in order to constantly improve the management during the journey. For maximum stability even when stationary, the American Seakeeper stabiliser can be additionally installed. RANGE  The range is considerably increased compared to a traditional yacht, thanks to the efficient propulsion of two Volvo Penta IPS 800 engines that, managed by FSS software in autopilot together with a hull designed for long journeys, can reach 700 miles on a single refuel. The Explorer 62's structural fuel tank has a capacity of 2800 litres. During our tests, using her two Volvo Penta IPS 800 engines at a speed of 11/12 knots, the average consumption was 50 l/h; this can allow her to sail for a good 60 hours and cover almost 700 miles. The software, once set up in conjunction with the autopilot, tries to maximise cruising speed with the lowest possible fuel consumption, adapting to sea and wind conditions. After more than four months of testing at sea, the software optimised its efficiency through self-learning, and further increased the yacht's range.  DEDICATED APPLICATION  The yacht is equipped with a specific, custom-designed application with comprehensive graphics and explanations, which can easily be installed on handhelds and tablets. Designed and produced by Centrostiledesign. BOAT MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE • Domotics system for boat management with dedicated software. • Management of all lights divided by bridges  • Management of all bilge pumps • Management of air conditioning system divided for the 6 fancoils  • Management of the main electrical equipment such as: windscreen wipers, underwater lights, t-top opening and closing • Management of all tanks and their pumps, diesel, sewage water, waste water and fresh water  • Management of current connections with dock • Electric generator as in an A-class ship • Digital and analogue system with 22.5 kW generator  DOUBLE ACCESS TO ENGINE ROOM AND GARAGE WITH INNOVATIVE OPENING AND MAXI GENERATOR • Double entrance to engine room with fireproof and watertight class A door for access to the crew cabin from both the stern and the cockpit • Hydraulic garage door with central glass part with vertical sliding for maximum safety when lowering the tender at sea  • Garage maximum capacity • Williams 345 tender with optional electric inflator • Electrical system as in an A-class ship, digital and analogue system with 22.5 kw generator  SAFETY FIRST For many years I have had the good fortune to sail and test new boat models, organising road shows and events, experiencing the sea not only in summer but all year round and on all continents. By visiting many ports and meeting many shipowners I always gathered information from different markets and different cultures. What emerges is that they all seek the same thing: maximum comfort. Space, functionality, comfort. Boats are like houses, but the environment in which they have to navigate, like brackish water, is aggressive and constantly changing. This made the challenge of building the Explorer Yacht even more exciting.

COMFORT ALL THE YEAR ROUND

Explorer62_DSC02169.jpg

GALLEY CONNECTED TO THE COMMAND POST

One of the special features of the layout is that the galley is positioned next to the steering position, which has two advantages:

• The convenience of navigating and cooking without leaving the steering position

• The elegant solution of leaving the entrance to the main hall free.

TRANSPARENT LATERAL FLY LADDER

The staircase to access the fly was moved to the port side, which is completely made of glass, to allow an optimal view of the stern from the helm station.

DESIGN, FUNCTIONALITY, CUSTOMISATION

portello garage.jpg

The Explorer's design serves functionality.

The boat is conceived as a modern flat where the only constraints are the sliding doors in the salon and the steering position.

Everything is allowed to the shipowner, who can configure and furnish the cockpit and main deck with free-standing furniture to his liking.

Explorer can be equipped with a PVC CRYSTAL canopy for insulating the fly area if the yacht is to be delivered to customers from colder markets or from those with high temperatures and humidity levels.

On the lower deck you have the option of having the traditional owner's cabin with separate bathroom and large closet or choose the open space version, with a transparent shower and exposed washbasins along the large window.

Under the stairs to the sleeping quarters you can opt for an additional cabin with a single bed or alternatively a large pantry.

For the interior decoration we prepared a solution combining calacatta marble in the cabins and noir desire marble in the bathrooms, lacquered blacks and matt whites.

Owners have always the possibility to customise the interior by choosing different and additional combinations to their taste.

DECONSTRUCTED CORNER WITH SLIDING GLASS DOORS

Exteriors and interiors can be connected as a single room by opening French windows, deconstructing a corner and allowing free circulation of air.

GALLEY CONNECTED TO THE COMMAND POST One of the special features of the layout is that the galley is positioned next to the steering position, which has two advantages:

• The convenience of navigating and cooking without leaving the steering position

• The elegant solution of leaving the entrance to the main hall free.

TRANSPARENT LATERAL FLY LADDER

The staircase to access the fly was moved to the port side, which is completely made of glass, to allow an optimal view of the stern from the helm station.

GRAPE ESCAPE Yacht for Sale

Not for sale or charter to U.S. residents while in U.S. waters.

Selene 55 combines the elegance of the past with the conveniences of the future.

Experience the sophistication of the past with the modern comforts of the future in Selene 55 Grape Escape, an outstanding example of how far the Asian builders have come regarding the design and quality of trawlers and passagemakers.

The remarkable growth in interest of trawlers and passagemakers has resulted from an expanding range of vessels now available from Asia, none more so than from Mainland China and Taiwan. Jet Tern Marine, headed by the dynamic Howard Chen, is the builder of the Selene range of trawlers, unquestionably one of the marker leaders. From its factory in Dong Guan, Canton, it produces around thirty boats a year, from the compact Selene 36 to the all-powerful Selene 75.

The name ‘Selene’ comes from the mythical Greek goddess of the moon. With that same spirit of excellence and beauty, Selene Ocean Trawlers are emerging as a world-leading brand in the luxury long-range trawler market.

Grape Escape is something new for Jet Tern Marine, being the first Selene 55 formed by grafting on the euro stern of the Selene 59 to the Selene 53. The Kiwi owner’s preference was for the styling of the bigger boat and the layout and size of the smaller 53. The compromise was to bring both together, something Jet Tern Marine was happy to do.

This also meant constructing a new transom door to the lazarette area, which now houses the washing machine, deep freeze and even a couple of bikes. The cockpit roof has also been extended, so the entire cockpit area is under shelter.
