Pittwater & Hawkesbury Yacht Charter

Pittwater & Hawkesbury yacht charter has been popular amongst local Australian, especially those from Sydney , for some time. This is motor boat charter country. The Pittwater/Hawkesbury waterways are lovely tree covered deep-water cruising ground just north of Sydney. There are three national parks to explore and therefore huge areas that have been left in their natural state, without human development. The Pittwater arm includes many beaches and the renowned Scotland Island. The Hawkesbury River winds over 50 miles inland through spectacular sandstone cliffs, small towns, uninhabited Islands and woods. Cowan Water has a collection of coves and moorings and lies to the west of the Hawkesbury River.

Newport, the first town on the Pittwater Peninsula, is around 40 kilometres north of Sydney's international airport which has incoming direct flights from most parts of the world. If you are arriving at Sydney's international airport, there are four ways to get to the Northern Beaches; shuttle bus, municipal bus, taxi, or rental car. The best season is probably summer, (October - May) although there is good cruising all year round.

Sitting 91 metres above sea level, this landmark offers some of the most impressive views of the Pacific Ocean, Broken Bay and the Ku-ring-gai National Park. Home and Away fans might recognise the lighthouse from the show, and can even spot the Summer Bay Surf Club nearby. Built in 1801, the sandstone lighthouse is presented in its original stone finish and the interior can be toured by appointment.

Ku-ring-Gai National Park & The Basin

The picturesque Ku-ring-gai national park could be a whole month long visit on its own. With its expansive grounds perfect for cycling, bush-walking and fishing, it’s the perfect place to get amongst nature. We recommend taking a small hike in the park followed by a lunchtime stop at The Basin. The Basin is a beautiful bayside camping area with ample facilities for a traditional Aussie barbecue. Meet the free roaming native animals such as wallabies and kookaburras and enjoy a sausage sizzle before jumping onboard for the next destination.

Scotland Island

A friendly community of around 1,000 residents currently inhabit the charming Scotland Island in Pittwater. Only accessible by boat, this area is replete with natural bushland and cheeky local wildlife. The locals are famously friendly, and there are many water based activities such as kayaking and paddle boarding available from local vendors.

The Newport

Swing by the rustic venue known as The Newport. Sailing to the Pittwater Icons

Surrounded by extensive national parks, Pittwater is a large sheltered waterway, part of the broader Broken Bay. With the famous Newport Beach and Palm Beach to the east, and West Head and Hawkesbury river system to the West, it is a popular sailing experience. There are many beautiful bays, beaches, creeks, islands, rivers and nature reserves to explore.

On a boat rental Pittwater , there are several excellent beaches including The Basin and Great Mackerel beach. Sailing around Scotland Island is a must do, as you sail past West Head (nature park) to the west. Further north, Broken Bay offers great sailing opportunities with fresh breezes around Lion Island, and further north to Pearl Beach, Patonga and Kilcare.

North West up the Hawkesbury is a broad expanse of water taking you to Brooklyn. Stop in to one of many restaurants for a tasty lunch. Beyond Brooklyn the water system continues and eventually winds its way right up to Wisemans Ferry but these places are beyond a day yacht charter.

South West up the Hawkesbury you can discover breathtaking private bays including Bay of Americas & Refuge Bay. Renowned for the waterfall right onto the beach which is truly spectacular and only accessible by boat. (You can also find the special plaque commemorating the WWII special forces training site for the “Krate” boat & their adventures). Further upstream continues through the Kuringgai National Park past Cottage Point (great restaurant for lunch) to Bobbin Head, or Coal and Candle Creek. Travelling beyond Cottage Point is usually best under motor.

Newport and Church Point, located within Pittwater, are convenient pick up / drop wharfs.

We offer both bare boat rental, and skippered yacht Boat Hire Pittwater. For a half day sailing cruise, we recommend a sail around the Pittwater area taking in Scotland Island, the stunning water front homes, and a brisk sail around Lion Island. A swim followed by lunch and a wine at The Basin or Mackerel Beach is perfect. For a full day yacht charter, we can take in the above delights, as well, you can be one of the lucky few to sail up to the secluded Refuge Bay & Bay of Americas. A swim at Flint and Steel Bay in the afternoon is beautiful.

Sydney’s Best Skippered Yacht Charter Location

Just 45 minutes drive north from Sydney’s CBD lies the stunning and protected Pittwater waterways.

Surrounded by an unspoiled national park and full of beautiful bays and beaches that can only be accessed by boat, Pittwater is a large sheltered waterway, ideal for recreational sailing – or a smooth water party charter.

Swim off the boat to beaches such as The Basin, Towlers Bay or Portuguese Beach. On a full day charter visit private bays such as America & Refuge Bay where you can shower under the waterfall right on the beach.

Sail around Scotland Island, explore West Head (nature park) or extend your charter and enjoy sailing opportunities on Broken Bay, past Lion Island maybe head over to Patonga or up to Cottage Point for lunch or coffee.

Allsail skippered charters are available on both monohull and multihull vessels. Choose the skippered charter that suits your group the best from the following yachts and catamarans.

Experience the space and relaxation of level sailing or motoring on a skippered catamaran charter. Or for a big group up to 20 people a cat is the perfect party platform, we have two available for skippered charter.

Tekin , a 1996 Seawind 1000 catamaran, has for years been one of Pittwater’s most popular day charter catamarans. She is the perfect catamaran for 2 to 3 couples, families or a large party group up to 20. 

Kick’N Back , a newer Seawind 1000 catamaran, is like Tekin but it also comes with a 8-man RIB tender with outboard so you can easily get your group to shore. Again, she is available for up to 20 guests plus master/crew.

Dancing Star , is a Bavaria Cruiser 40S luxury performance yacht with capacity for groups of up to 10 people plus skipper/crew. You’ll love the brand new Hood performance sails and the full width drop down swim platform for that extra room when anchored or moored near a beach.

Popular for budget skippered yacht charters, The Frog is a 2003 Beneteau Oceanis 39, also suited for groups of up to 10 plus skipper/crew.

Skippered Yacht Charter Frequently Asked Questions

How long does an Allsail skippered yacht or catamaran charter last?

Allsail skippered charters begin at a minimum of 4 hours, however, you can extend your charter.

Many people opt for 5 or 6 hours or a full day (7 hour) charter – extra fees apply. 

Evening charters are also available – fees vary by yacht.

What’s included in an Allsail a skippered yacht or catamaran charter?

Your skippered charter includes boat hire, fuel and fully qualified friendly and knowledgeable skipper, plus deckhand/hostess is also available, if required.

You provide your own food and alcohol – we can recommend caterers but do not provide catering. For large groups we suggest you bring disposable plates and cutlery  – or we have some crockery, glassware and cutlery  d epending on the boat. We also have refrigeration and drinks cooling capacity – just ask us when you book.

What does a typical skippered charter itinerary look like?

Our 4-hour charter itinerary usually look something like this:

• Introductory briefing, 
• Sail or motor around Pittwater
• Anchoring or moor in a bay for lunch/ drinks and a swim – popular destinations include the Basin, Towlers Bay or Portuguese beach
• Sail or motor back to Allsail

How much is an Allsail skippered yacht or catamaran charter?

Allsail Catamaran charter starts at $1700 for four hours.

Allsail Yacht Charter starts at  $1500 for four hours.

What are the skippered yacht charter pick up and drop off locations?

Our main base for pickup and return is Church Point, however, alternatives are Newport Wharf and Palm Beach wharf – both are weather dependent and incur an extra fee. 

You might want to also consider a meal before or after at the Pasadena or Waterfront Store restaurant next to our Church Point base, or enjoy pre or post drinks at the Newport Arms.
