At the urging of Brazilian Georg Ehrensperger, the 2006 race set a new course to Salvador, the picturesque capital of Brazil’s Bahia state. The historic port meant an interesting new destination, and avoided the calms often met on the course after Ihla Trinidade. The race became known as the Cape to Bahia, with Heineken taking over as the sponsor. The distance to Salvador would be 3 380 nautical miles. For the first time, single-handed and double-handed entries were accepted. Included in the fleet were Federico and Crean . At six-and-a-half metres in length, they were the smallest boats in the history of the race.
The inevitable controversy of pitting monohulls against multihulls in previous races was addressed by assigning multihulls to the cruising class. Despite this change, Ehrensperger’s big Nigel Irons-designed catamaran, Adrenalina Pura , successfully evaded a high that slowed most of the fleet by heading due west and sailing over the top of it and lived up to its name with an incredible crossing time of 10 days, 8 hours and 2 minutes, and a fabulous welcome in the owner’s home port. Hi-Fidelity and Adrenalina Pura had been the likeliest title challengers but, less than a day out of Cape Town, Hi-Fidelity ’s challenge ended when she struck a whale.
Just as exciting was the performance of Windsong , a Reichel Pugh 37-footer, skippered by Rob Meek, with former race winner Wolf Seitz gauging the weather. On occasions notching up daily runs of nearly 300 miles, Windsong set a time of 16 days, 2 hours and 46 minutes, to take both line honours and the handicap trophy for the racing class. Also noteworthy was the performance of Cape Town architect Gawie Fagan, then aged 80, who was leading on handicap for much of the race. on the 9-metre Suidoos 2 , a modified Royal Cape One Design, until finally they were caught in calms, to take 3rd place on handicap.
Both Federico and Crean finished the race, Crean only 18 hours in front of Federico.
An especially notable entry was fulfilment of a longstanding dream for quadriplegic skipper Russell Vollmer when he managed to complete the Heineken Cape to Bahia race on his catamaran Omnimed Seague. Vollmer, who was at the time also the commodore of Royal Cape Yacht Club, gathered a crack crew of six and special modifications were done for the 3380-mile ocean crossing. This race saw Vollmer’s second attempt at a South Atlantic crossing as he sailed in the 2000 Cape to Rio race, but did not manage to finish before the official cut-off time. This time he took to the seas in a fast cruising catamaran that suited him ideally as the Chris White designed Atlantic 55 provides ample space to accommodate his wheelchair. The configuration of the yacht also gave him the opportunity to be more independent and the ability to contribute more to the physical aspects of sailing.

Towards the end of the 80s for the “Il Moro Di Venezia” America’s Cup Challenge we collaborated in the design and construction of a composites facility far ahead of it’s time. There we built one of the largest and most sophisticated Ovens ever designed for this purpose.
For the construction of Adrenalina Pura a 64′ catamaran in a Brazilian island off the coat of Bahia we built a boatyard and an oven for the cure of the prepreg carbon laminate structures of the hulls and cross beams and another specifically for the construction of the rotating wing mast.
In most of our projects it was not necessary to set up a boatyard, all that was required was to build an oven for the processing of prepregs and several heating tables to build flat panels; based on these requirements we designed and built the ovens for several facilities in Spain, Italy and Dubai;
After so many years of collaboration with boatyards the World over, Trimarine has decided it was time to integrate the consultancy work with a new production facility setup in Portugal in 2010;
Trimarine Compósitos Lda. was incorporated as a Portuguese company in 2012; 1800 square meters of surface dedicated to the construction of composite components and yachts.
A modern structure with water frontage to the South East of Lisbon where all kinds of composite vessels can be built, including multihulls of large dimensions that due to their size require direct launching facilities.

Adrenalina Pura de volta à Regata Aratu-Maragojipe
Após anos longe das raias, o icônico veleiro baiano Adrenalina Pura está de volta às competições, justamente nos 50 anos da Regata Aratu-Maragojipe, que larga no dia 24 de agosto, com mais de 140 barcos inscritos.
O Mar Bahia conversou com a tripulação do Adrenalina, que compartilhou a expectativa neste momento. "Vamos velejar em família e amigos próximos e estamos muito felizes de participar mais uma vez da Aratu-Maragojipe com o Adrenalina. O Claus Bieckarck acabou de chegar do Pan e dessa vez não vai poder participar", declarou Georg Ehrensperger, comandante do Adrenalina.
Claus Biekarck, a quem ele se refere, é Cláudio Biekarck, um dos maiores atletas da Vela brasileira, com participações em Olimpíadas e nada menos do que dez edições dos Jogos Pan-americanos, incluindo o deste ano, com a conquista de dez medalhas, aos 68 anos.

O veleiro Adrenalina Pura é um trimaran de 64 pés fabricado com o que há de mais moderno em construção naval. O barco é uma verdadeira máquina de regatas, detentor de recordes ainda imbatíveis, como o estabelecido em 2007 durante a Regata Recife-Fernando de Noronha (Refeno) , quando navegou cerca de 500 milhas em nada menos do que 14 horas, 34 minutos e 54 segundos. Dá para imaginar o que vem por aí na Aratu-Maragojipe!

The first report after the second start of the SAP Cape to Rio race in Cape Town yesterday saw both multihulls flying in good winds. Swedish trimaran Nicator covered 378 miles during the last 18 hours at an average of 15,7 knots and the Brazilian catamaran Adrenalina Pura did 296 miles averaging 12.31 knots.
Navigator Magnus Woxen reported great sailing conditions by midday on Sunday. “There is a nice breeze and flat seas, so we’re currently doing approximately 19 knots. It is nice and sunny and everybody is feeling great,” said Woxen, who suffered from serious cramps and muscle spasms before the start.
Monohull line honours contender Morning Glory also showed good progress and managed to cover 278 miles since the start. It was, however, Australian skipper Bill Rawson, who overcame his pre-start turmoil to lead the IRC fleet on handicap. His 65-foot yacht Helsal II fell off the crane when it was launched and the mast broke in two places. A new mast was built in double quick time and they were on the starting line with the rest of the fleet yesterday.
The Norwegian entry Barracuda is currently second on handicap followed by Scorpio. Skipper John Dixon only bought the yacht two weeks before the start and is sailing with his wife Jennifer, daughter Eleanor and son Jonathan.
Now that the bigger boats are at sea, the first starters have slid down the results sheet but Suidoos 2 continues her good progress by doing 124 miles during the last 24 hours in an area of the Atlantic where the winds are traditionally light. Both Suidoos 2 and Konica/Mallinicks Indaba have crossed the Greenwich Meridian.

About Pure Adrenalin
Pure Adrenalin’s lower deck is entirely under canopy, with open sides allowing great views whether it be the Brisbane River, the bays of North and South Stradbroke or the open water to Tangalooma. An open air bridge deck provides another platform for up to 24 guests to view the surrounds. Depending on location, she can house a total of 76 guests for charters.
Pure Adrenalin has three (3) guest cabins capable of accommodating nine (9) guests in total for overnight charters. With a luxuriously appointed saloon area, a fully complemented galley kitchen and a range of 1,000 nautical miles, Pure Adrenalin can also double as the perfect luxury live aboard charter vessel.
