Some yachts are destined to break the mould, to find a new path to greatness. The 77.8m (255.2ft) full-custom yacht ENERGY, delivered by Amels in 2022, is one such yacht. ENERGY has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure constructed to Lloyd’s classification and the brief for exterior designer Espen Oeino and interior designer Francois Zuretti was to defy convention and find ways to connect with the ocean. They exceeded all expectations.

Some yachts are destined to break the mould, to find a new path to greatness. The 77.8m (255.2ft) full-custom yacht ENERGY, delivered by Amels in 2022, is one such yacht. ENERGY has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure constructed to Lloyd’s classification and the brief for exterior designer Espen Oeino and interior designer Francois Zuretti was to defy convention and find ways to connect with the ocean. They exceeded all expectations.

The top deck’s helipad forward is a versatile space outside heliops – sun lounge, al fresco yoga studio with wraparound ocean views, a space for elevated entertainment served by the statement bar, assorted lounging areas and dayhead inside. The jacuzzi and sun pads aft allow guests to bask in the sun.

The bridge deck music lounge is designed for acoustic excellence. There is a Steinway baby grand piano and marble-topped bar. The entertainment continues in the open-air lounge aft, guests can find some privacy on the sofa forward of the bridge or keep going on the walkaround sidedecks to appreciate the anchorage from every possible vantage point.

Through full-height glass, the owner’s deck bedroom overlooks, and has direct access to, a private foredeck terrace, which has an intimate lounge beneath the overhang, a jacuzzi and a mesmerising marble firepit amid armchairs and chaises longues. Walkaround sidedecks lead past a private lounge and bar, which opens on three sides to let in the sound and scent of the ocean, to open-air dining for up to 18 guests and one of the largest pools on any yacht, anywhere.

On the main deck, the ocean connection extends to both VIP suites, each of which has full-height sliding glass walls opening onto a private balcony at the forward end of extra-wide sidedecks. Moving aft, inside or out, you pass a boardroom-style office, martial arts room, lobby with lower- to bridge-deck glass elevator, formal dining room, two-tender boat deck and watertoy store, and an intimate waterfall lounge.

Whether your guests arrive at the lower deck’s swim platform or the sea-level lobby, all four lower deck guest cabins, completing accommodation for 14 guests in seven suites across three decks, have step-free access past the beauty salon to the beach club and wellness spa aft. There is a huge sea terrace outside the gym and massage room to port, and to starboard a sauna and hammam either side of a relaxation room with another sea terrace.

Twin 3,046hp MTU diesel engines give her a top speed of 17 knots, and cruising speed of 13.5 knots and an easy transatlantic range of 5,000nm. Two sets of stabilisers ensure comfort on arrival.

High Energy READ LISTING DISCLAIMER

Motoryacht High Energy became Sunseeker’s largest charter vessel in the UK when it began its first season in 2010. Delivered in the same year, the Sunseeker 88 has two decks perfect for entertaining both indoors and alfresco. The 26m sleeps eight guests in four cabins and has a day capacity of 12 and 35 when moored.

‘High Energy’ provides two capacious decks for entertaining. The saloon deck provides a large open plan dining and seating area, which opens up into a sizeable aft cockpit. This area can be laid for alfresco dining or simply be used as a comfortable seating area. The large, spacious flybridge provides a second arena for entertaining guests. This expanse has the advantage of an option of a hard top roof, to cover the main body and sides of the flybridge.

Combining these two decks provides the perfect venue to entertain guests, family, friends or colleagues.

Yachts in your shortlist Swiss court convicts two PetroSaudi executives in the ‘scam of the century’ over $1.8 billion embezzlement A top Swiss court sentenced two PetroSaudi executives to jail terms on Wednesday after finding them guilty of embezzling $1.8 billion from Malaysia’s 1MDB sovereign wealth fund. Tarek Obaid, 48, the Swiss-Saudi chief executive of the oil exploration and production company, was sentenced to seven years in prison by Switzerland’s Federal Criminal Court. His right-hand man Patrick Mahony, 47, a Swiss-British director at Geneva-based PetroSaudi, was given a six-year sentence by the court in the southern city of Bellinzona. The convictions can be challenged on appeal and the prosecution’s request for their immediate detention in custody was rejected by the court. They were found guilty over their parts in a vast embezzlement orchestrated by Jho Low, an advisor to former Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak, with the complicity of the latter. Noting the sums involved compared to Malaysia’s GDP, Prosecutor Alice de Chambrier called it the “scam of the century” and branded the defendants as “calculative, manipulative and obscenely greedy”, Swiss news agency Keystone-ATS reported during the trial. Selfish motive The trial was heard by three judges in April. The court found the defendants, acting in league with people working for 1MDB, “set up a fraud which enabled them, to the detriment of 1MDB, to collect $1 billion on the basis of a false joint venture partnership between PetroSaudi and 1MDB,” a court statement said. After converting the joint venture into an Islamic loan, the pair aided the diversion of two additional payments of $500 million and $330 million, “falsely legitimising them with alleged investment opportunities — and then laundering the entire amount diverted”. “Once the money had been embezzled, the defendants carried out a large number of acts aimed at frustrating the identification of the origin, the tracing or the forfeiture of assets,” the court said. It found that Obaid committed 370 acts of money laundering, for a total of more than $7 billion, and Mahony 220 acts for more than $5 billion. They were found guilty of fraud, aggravated money laundering and complicity in aggravated criminal mismanagement. To set the sentences, the court said it took into account “the very high amounts involved, the intensity of the criminal activity, the selfish motive and, as a reducing factor, the time elapsed”. The allegations covered a period from 2009 to 2015. The court also ordered the defendants to return to 1MDB the amounts diverted from the fund, “as well as part of the assets under seizure, and ordered the forfeiture of certain elements of their assets”. During the hearings, Chambrier said Obaid and Mahony squandered their loot on precious stones, private jets, rented yachts and property in London and Geneva. Investigations worldwide The multi-billion-dollar 1MDB financial scandal has led to criminal investigations around the world, including in the United States, Switzerland and Singapore. It is alleged that billions of dollars were pilfered from the 1Malaysia Development Berhad fund by a number of people and used to buy items ranging from artwork to a superyacht. The 1MDB scandal led to the fall of Najib’s government in 2018. In 2022, the former prime minister was sentenced to 12 years in jail in Malaysia for offences linked to the misuse of public money. In February, his sentence was halved to six years. In a statement, the 1MDB board welcomed the convictions in Switzerland, notably the order for forfeiture and restitution of monies and assets. “We continue to bring enforcement actions against the parties involved in fraudulent misappropriation of Malaysian state funds around the world,” a spokesperson said. “Today’s judgement is a further step towards recovering the harm done to the people of Malaysia. Here, we present a novel approach involving the customization of a conjugated polymer, designated as p-DTPF4-EBEH, comprising alternating units of an oxa[5]helicene-based polycyclic heteroaromatic (DTPF4) and 5,5′-(2,5-di(hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene)bis(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (EBEH), synthesized through palladium-catalyzed direct arylation. Relative to homopolymers p-DTPF4 and p-EBEH, p-DTPF4-EBEH demonstrates a proper HOMO energy level, hole density, and hole mobility, alongside superior film-forming capabilities. Remarkably, compared to the commonly used hole transport material spiro-OMeTAD, p-DTPF4-EBEH not only exhibits superior film-forming property and hole mobility but also offers increased modulus and improved waterproofing. Incorporating p-DTPF4-EBEH as the hole transport material in PSCs results in an average power conversion efficiency of 25.8%, surpassing the 24.3% achieved with spiro-OMeTAD. Importantly, devices utilizing p-DTPF4-EBEH demonstrate enhanced thermal storage stability at 85 °C, along with operational robustness.
