Tropical Island Paradise superyacht Concept

By Adrian Prisca

Published on July 27, 2011

yacht tropical island

The newest concept from Yacht Island Design is The Tropical Island Paradise superyacht, a massive 90m yacht which is shaped, as its name states, as a tropical island. This new crazy, yet interesting yacht concept seems to resemble a secluded volcanic island with elements inspired from islands from the Caribbean, Indian Ocean and Polynesia as well.

The exterior of the yacht looks contemporary and in the same time it gives the impression of waves breaking around a volcanic island. The main deck is a private beach with a large swimming pool located forward that is fed by a stream of water coming from a cascading waterfall on the volcano further aft. A couple of private cabanas located between palm trees line the edge of the pool and provide a relaxing outlook over the pool and the ocean.

Behind these cabanas there’s a bar area, a seating area and an area for al fresco dining. Tropical Island Paradise can accommodate up to 10 charter guests in its luxurious cabins. The owner’s suite is located inside the volcano and spread over two decks with a balcony and private spa while the remaining suites all have private balconies as well and direct access up into the main deck cabanas.

The yacht also features a dedicated helicopter landing platform, deployable floating beach islands, a cinema, library, games room and gym, a fully equipped spa and a multitude of lounges. The yacht should be able to reach a top speed of 15 knots propelled by a diesel electrical power plant.

Tropical Island Paradise

This superyacht – dubbed the ‘Tropical island Paradise’ – has been designed by British boat builders Yacht Island Design.

The 90m Tropical Island Paradise design has a theme that is centred around a secluded island paradise, with elements inspired by the islands of the Caribbean.

The main deck is a secluded beach ‘cove’ of cabanas surrounding a massive ocean view swimming pool.

Behind these cabanas there is a bar area, communal seating area and an area for al fresco dining.

Inside the huge, towering volcano is a cinema, library, games room, gym, spa and VIP suites – including an owners pad spread over two decks.

The exterior of yacht was designed to give the impression of waves breaking around a volcanic island, whilst maintaining the look of a contemporary yacht design.

The lavish yacht can accommodate up to 10 guests – and can travel along at a top speed of 15 knots.

South Pacific & Oceania Yacht Charter Guide

Into the Sun on Your Tropical Island Adventure

Sailing a charter yacht in the vast southern Pacific Ocean can be as relaxing or challenging as you want it to be.

Whether taking a monohull yacht to cover the ground and for sheer sailing pleasure, or a catamaran for its space and family comfort, whether choosing a bareboat or skippered option, the charter zones of Tahiti, Tonga and New Caledonia have it all. Spend your entire sailing holiday never leaving the tranquil blue lagoon, or visit places you've read about that require the rewarding experience of a short ocean passage.

Across in Australia. the Whitsundays, 74 tropical islands most of which are uninhabited, lie protected from the ocean by the outer Great Barrier Reef, a true wonder of the natural world. The cruising grounds of the Whitsunday Islands offer an almost infinite number of anchorages suitable for charter boats, with spectacular beaches set against an aquamarine sea teeming with marine life.Ā

The South Pacific Charter Sailing Experience Ā

The tropical South Pacific islands are sailing destinations of peaceful pleasure. The people are welcoming, the sailing season weather is kind, and the natural enviroment is astounding. It's as if these islands have been put there just for you to enjoy, unaffected as they are by outside influence, even in the 21st century.

The southern hemisphere winter is cruising time in tropical waters: go east to Tahiti, west to New Caledonia, or get right to the heart of the Pacific in the Kingdom of Tonga. Fly into Brisbane, Austrlia and explore the nearby Whitsunday Islands. The choices for chartering in the South Pacific & Oceania are as exciting as they are colourful.Ā  And access is easy with well-developed air links across the Pacific.Ā

From May to October, the weather is beautifully warm and the trade winds provide sensational sailing conditions in these latitudes. Wherever you choose to charter in the South Pacific, countless places of interest await discovery within practical sailing distances of base port.

Streets of monaco, the blueprint.

'The Streets of Monaco' is our first design proposal. The theme is based around the Mediterranean principality with the primary focus being the famous grand prix circuit. The idea was to recreate the circuit as a fully functional kart track able to accommodate three karts side by side to allow for plenty of overtaking. By sizing the track in this way it has driven the overall dimensions of the yacht and the placement of the famous landmarks. The Monaco story extends beyond this exterior architecture and into the interior spaces giving a seamless transition as guests move between the various areas of the yacht. The following pages show some early concept sketches and a variety of artist's impressions of the final design.

Further concepts

One of the concept design options

Exterior and Close Ups

Artists impression of the chosen design for The Streets of Monaco - showing the key landmarks of the principality, Hotel de Paris, Casino, Prince's Palace, Loews Hotel, Port Hercule and La Rascasse.

'The Oasis', located aft, acts as the main boarding point for the yacht, an expansive area modelled on the gardens just outside the Monaco Casino. On entering the Oasis, attention is immediately drawn to the central waterfall feature consisting of upper level pools cascading down into the lower pool and Jacuzzi. Radiating from the pool are numerous shrub lined pathways and secluded seating areas. Large exterior windows surround the entire aft section of the oasis, extending to the full double deck height ceiling allowing natural light to flood the space. Located forward on the lower level is the Spa, with manicure and hair salon, private massage suites, sauna/steam rooms and a large relaxation lounge featuring a spa pool with bar. To either side of the spa entrance are located grand marble staircases and elevator access to the mezzanine, with a cafe bar and magnificent views of the gardens below.

'The Grand Atrium' is the central hub of the yacht, linking the upper and lower living areas. At its centre is a large, ornate spiral staircase which surrounds a waterfall feature that is supplied by the glass bottomed fountain from the garden area above. A small cafe/bar area ensures this feature can be enjoyed while relaxing in comfort. The seven guest suites are located off of the lower atrium level and vary in size, from the more modest 135 m2 suite to the grand 356 m2 VIP suites. All include their own reception room, bathroom, dressing room, bedroom and balcony. The VIP suites have the added luxury of a private office.

The Owner's Apartment

At the farthest end of the Atrium lies the Owners Apartment. Connected to all decks via a private lift and spread over 3 floors, it covers a total 1460 square metres of floor space. As well as the usual lounge with a feature fire place and double height ceiling, office, bedroom, bathroom, his/hers dressing rooms, the apartment also benefits from a listening room, private courtyard, sunroom, numerous balconies and private sundeck with a Jacuzzi/swimming pool.

Eastern Promise

This design concept is just one of our many themed yacht visions, we love it and we'll show you more of this one soon, but in the meantime we're even more interested in hearing your ideas. Oriental Chuan

Tropical island paradise, thumbnail sketches.

These are some of the initial ideas created during the conceptualisation stage showing a wide variety of designs. From these designs, elements and features are extracted and combined to produce the final concept. The brief for this concept was to create an idyllic, floating island, with all the features of a tropical island getaway built into the design. As you can see, from the early stages, we wanted to include elements close to the water, deployable, as well as a mountain/waterfall feature.

Colour Rendering

A colour perspective sketch of the final concept. This shows the design nearing its final form, with colour to better express the mood, and atmosphere of the yachtisland. Here we get a better idea of the open-face swimming pool peering out to sea, and the form of the foliage and waterfall against the superstructure.

Rendered Profile

Profile drawing to show the final design. The profile sketch helps to finally show the scale of elements, and now demonstrates the free-flowing nature of the hull, mimicking waves, and gives an idea of the volume that the body of the ship encompasses, and a rough feel for how much space might be enclosed in its vast structure.

Bird's-Eye View

This image shows a number of the key elements of the exterior main deck. These include the swimming pool, guest cabanas, the bar and outdoor dining. The waterfall can quite clearly been seen running from the volcano and feeding into the swimming pool.

Forward 3/4 View

This view shows the guest cabanas nestled around the pool and highlights the two deck owners' suites carved out of the front of the volcano and looking out across the bow. The interior features an owners suite located inside the volcano and spread over two decks. The living room balcony affords views out over the front of the yacht from behind the waterfall. Located behind the bedroom is the owners private spa.

Rear 3/4 View

The rear view shows off the sculpted wave-form of the superstructure, as well as the rear deck which doubles as a helicopter landing pad, just one of the available options for reaching the yacht whilst at sea. Further accommodation can be seen on the flanks, taking the form of four VIP suites all having private balconies and direct access up into the beach cabanas.

The Beach Deck

One of the more unique features of this yacht is the deployable beach deck which allows acces to the sea for various watersports and sea level relaxation. Indoor entertainment is catered for by way of a cinema, library, games room and gym, with relaxation options in the form of a multitude of lounges each offering their own unique ambiance, and a fully equipped spa.

Project Utopia

Initial concept.

Visions of the future are often constrained by familiarity with the present or reflection on the past. Project Utopia, a collaboration between Yacht Island Design and BMT Nigel Gee, is an avant-garde vision of a future concept free from such restricted thought. Before trying to understand the design one has to examine why the greater majority of yachts have evolved to the traditional form that has derived from millennia of engineering and naval architecture. Once the mind is free from these constraints the possible forms that a concept might take are wide ranging.

Bird's Eye View

Much is made in today's design community of starting with a blank sheet of paper. Yet many if not all yacht concepts revert back to that traditional form; the perception that a yacht should be a form of transport becomes an immediate constraint. Utopia is not an object to travel in, it is a place to be, an island established for anyone who has the vision to create such a place. Measuring 100m in length and breadth, and spanning over 11 decks with the equivalent volume of a present-day cruise liner there is enough space to create an entire micronation.

Where Do You Want To Be?

Utopia is able to adapt to various environments while maintaining guest comfort. With the deployable glass canopy panels covering the interior decks, full climate control is possible, despite the geographical location and outside conditions. The image above left demonstrates a folding deck deployed from one of the leg structures, capable of launching various craft and enjoying the calmer seas.

Below Water Level

In today's context Project Utopia might be viewed as a folly, an extravagant expression of architecture and form based on a perception of the future. The visionary will, however, be able to grasp the paradigm shift and see the future as being totally unconstrained. These low angle views show the azimuthing thrusters, able to propel Utopia through the water.

Key Features

- 100m x 100m in size, with the equivalent deck space of today's cruise liners. - Space to create a bewildering amount of interior design options, such as a retail district, theatre, culinary zone containing an eclectic mix of restaurants and an entertainment zone featuring bars, nightclubs and a casino. - An observatory deck with breath taking 360 degree views at a height of 65m above sea level. - A true architectural, and engineering masterpiece designed to present the smallest possible profile to the water's surface.

Yacht Island Design: Challenging Industry Conventions

yacht tropical island

In the world of Superyachts, pushing the limits of what is technologically and structurally possible is often the name of the game when it comes to design. Concept yachts provide yacht designers with a unique opportunity to push their imaginations to the limit. But what about Concept Islands ?

Yacht Island Design Ā wanted to create designs that feature locations, rather than transportation, approaching traditional yacht design in a unique way:

“We like to base our designs upon innovative floating platforms. It frees us to explore bold and daring ideas which challenge the accepted norms within the yachting industry. No longer are we bound by the restrictions of a conventional hull shape. This unleashes creative flair and individualism for our clients as well as us!”

In this exclusive interview, we explore their unconventional work, hopes for the future, and their approach to challenging the status quo for yacht design.

Yacht Island Design

The Foundation Idea Of Yacht Island Design

1. Could you describe your ethos and approach to yacht design?

The foundation idea for the company was to offer something different in the yacht design space. We wanted to create designs that were a place to be, choosing to base design on a theme, that could be anything a client desired.

2. Any future hopes and goals for your designs?

Currently, we are in discussions with a couple of potential clients. We hope to start working with them on one of our concepts in the not too distant future.

Yacht Island Design

The Streets Of Monaco

As our first project, we wanted to make a statement by showcasing just how different this design philosophy could be from what is usual in the industry today. We are big motorsport fans, and the idea of putting a kart track on board was one of our first ideas. Combining this with our desire to design themed vessels Monaco seemed like the perfect overarching theme. We tried to capture the style and elegance of Monaco in the design.

Streets of Monaco: Yacht Island Design

Tropical Island Paradise

For our next concept, we wanted to create a design that blended a slightly more traditional-looking super structure with highly themed deck designs.

Tropical Island Paradise: Yacht Island Design

Project Utopia

Yacht Island Design

Challenging Yacht Design Conventions & Upcoming Projects

1. For your current projects, what was the inspiration behind each design, and how do they challenge the usual conventions of yacht design?

The key element of change relative to conventional yacht design is considering the design primarily as a place to be rather than transportation. But that is not to say they canā€™t be used as transportation – it is just not the driving requirement. This provides huge scope for design creativity and enables us to offer clients highly personalised, exceptional experiences on the water.

2. What are your upcoming projects, and what new aspects to the design are you aiming to implement?

Luxury Tropical Island Yacht Concept : A Private Paradise

By ada teicu, updated june 13, 2022.

tropical paradise

Everyone dreams of exceptional things waiting to happen, of memories waiting to be gathered and of creative ways to explore the surrounding world. This fascinating tropical island yacht project is a dream come true for its designers, the UK based yacht design company Yacht Island Designs .

The floating tropical island would be made out of steel and would measure 90 meters in length, plenty of room to build a luscious and luxurious environment that would sail away in the sunset. A volcano built on the yacht guides water flowing down to the pool, where huts and luscious greenery surround it.

The concept yacht was called the Tropical Island Paradise . A retractable beach deck in the back of the yacht presents an additional comfortable relaxation zone. With four VIP guest suites and a fascinating ownerā€™s suite built into the volcano, the yacht is equipped with high-end features like a cinema, library, games room, gym and sauna.

This is an introduction to luxury yachting – themed yachts – and the idea seems to be an exciting new venture in the world of custom, luxurious yacht design. Love or hate the concept?

Luxury yacht anchored in a Tropical island turquoise beach in Los Roques islands, Venezuela. Boats, sailboats and yachts anchored in a Caribbean island. Travel and leisure related images for vacations in the Caribbean. Image taken at Los Roques, Venezuela. Los Roques is an archipelago or group of small islands located at 80 miles north of the Venezuelan coastline and a very popular destination for leisure, diving, kite surfing and all king of water activities. Los Roques and the beauty of the turquoise coastal beaches of Venezuela are almost indistinguishable from those of the Bahamas, Fiji, Bora Bora, French Polynesia, Malau, Hawaii, Cancun, Costa Rica, Florida, Maldives, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Honduras, or other tropical areas.

Private Yacht as Tropical Island Paradise

' src=

So you already have your own private tropical island and giant-sized personal luxury yacht ā€¦ how do you take things to the next level? Why, you combine the two into a portable slice of floating paradise, of course!

Floating tropical luxury liner

Somewhere between crazy and kitsch, this monster of the sea features its own miniature volcano, flowing waterfall, mountain stream, and valley pool flanked by a series of small bamboo huts and shelter-providing palm trees, all set upon (and concealing) a cruise-ship-style deck.

Floating rear excursion platform

For adults looking for a little more reality on their oceanic voyage, an extendable deck can be deployed belowdecks via a fold-down hatch in the hull; this opening revealing stairs leading to shelters, seating and other detachable smaller sea-faring vessels for short off-ship excursions.

Floating yacht concept sketches

ā€œThis view shows the guest cabanas nestled around the pool and highlights the two deck ownersā€™ suites carved out of the front of the volcano and looking out across the bow. The interior features an owners suite located inside the volcano and spread over two decks. The living room balcony affords views out over the front of the yacht from behind the waterfall. Located behind the bedroom is the owners private spa.ā€

Floating dream boat ideas

But YI Designs is not quite done yet ā€“ they propose to build the ultra-rich vessels they have yet to dream of, if they have the wealth to afford them. Concepts include a remake of the streets of Monaco, a Chinese sailing ship and a kind of abstracted Taj Mahal on the water.

Floating tropical island city

Insane? Perhaps, but if there is a market, who knows ā€“ these may actually be constructed some day. ā€œā€˜The Streets of Monacoā€™ is our first design proposal. The theme is based around the Mediterranean principality with the primary focus being the famous grand prix circuit.ā€

Floating paradise island concept

ā€œ The idea was to recreate the circuit as a fully functional kart track able to accommodate three karts side by side to allow for plenty of overtaking.Ā  The Monaco story extends beyond this exterior architecture and into the interior spaces giving a seamless transition as guests move between the various areas of the yacht.ā€

Hot on the trail of 56 superyachts owned by Russian oligarchs and subject to seizure

  • Published: Mar. 06, 2022, 2:04 p.m.

superyacht

French authorities have seized the yacht Amore Vero linked to Igor Sechin, a Putin ally who runs Russian oil giant Rosneft, as part of EU sanctions over Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The boat arrived in La Ciotat on Jan. 3 for repairs and was slated to stay until April 1 and was seized to prevent an attempted departure. (AP Photo/Bishr Eltoni) AP

  • The Associated Press

The massive superyacht Dilbar stretches one-and-a-half football fields in length, about as long as a World War I dreadnought. It boasts two helipads, berths for more than 130 people and a 25-meter swimming pool long enough to accommodate another whole superyacht.

Dilbar was launched in 2016 at a reported cost of more than $648 million. Five years on, its purported owner, the Kremlin-aligned Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov, was already dissatisfied and sent the vessel to a German shipyard last fall for a retrofit reportedly costing another couple hundred million dollars.

Thatā€™s where she lay in drydock on Thursday when the United States and European Union announced economic sanctions against Usmanov ā€” a metals magnate and early investor in Facebook ā€” over his ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin and in retaliation for the invasion of Ukraine.

ā€œWe are joining with our European allies to find and seize your yachts, your luxury apartments, your private jets,ā€ President Joe Biden said during his State of the Union speech Tuesday night, addressing the oligarchs. ā€œWe are coming for your ill-begotten gains.ā€

But actually seizing the behemoth boats could prove challenging. Russian billionaires have had decades to shield their money and assets in the West from governments that might try to tax or seize them.

Several media outlets reported Wednesday that German authorities had impounded Dilbar. But a spokeswoman for Hamburg stateā€™s economy ministry told The Associated Press no such action had yet been taken because it had been unable to establish ownership of the yacht, which is named for Usmanovā€™s mother.

Dilbar is flagged in the Cayman Islands and registered to a holding company in Malta, two secretive banking havens where the global ultra-rich often park their wealth.

Still, in the industry that caters to the exclusive club of billionaires and centimillionaires that can afford to buy, crew and maintain superyachts, it is often an open secret who owns what.

Working with the U.K.-based yacht valuation firm VesselsValue, the AP compiled a list of 56 superyachts ā€” generally defined as luxury vessels exceeding 79 feet in length ā€” believed to be owned by a few dozen Kremlin-aligned oligarchs, seaborne assets with a combined market value estimated at more than $5.4 billion.

The AP then used two online services ā€” VesselFinder and MarineTraffic ā€” to plot the last known locations of the yachts as relayed by their onboard tracking beacons.

While many are still anchored at or near sun-splashed playgrounds in the Mediterranean and Caribbean, more than a dozen were underway to or had already arrived in remote ports in small nations such as the Maldives and Montenegro, potentially beyond the reach of Western sanctions. Three are moored in Dubai, where many wealthy Russians have vacation homes.

Another three had gone dark, their transponders last pinging just outside the Bosporus in Turkey ā€” gateway to the Black Sea and the southern Russian ports of Sochi and Novorossiysk.

Graceful, a German-built Russian-flagged superyacht believed to belong to Putin, left a repair yard in Hamburg on Feb. 7, two weeks before Russia invaded Ukraine. It is now moored in the Russian Baltic port of Kaliningrad, beyond the reach of Western sanctions imposed against him this past week.

Some Russian oligarchs appear to have not gotten the memo to move their superyachts, despite weeks of public warnings of Putinā€™s planned invasion.

French authorities seized the superyacht Amore Vero on Thursday in the Mediterranean resort town of La Ciotat. The boat is believed to belong to Igor Sechin, a Putin ally who runs Russian oil giant Rosneft, which has been on the U.S. sanctions list since Russia annexed Crimea in 2014.

The French Finance Ministry said in a statement that customs authorities boarded the 289-foot Amore Vero and discovered its crew was preparing for an urgent departure, even though planned repair work wasnā€™t finished. The $120 million boat is registered to a company that lists Sechin as its primary shareholder.

On Saturday, Italian financial police in the port of San Remo seized the 132-foot superyacht Lena, which is flagged in the British Virgin Islands. Authorities said the boat belongs to Gennady Timchenko, an oligarch close to Putin and among those sanctioned by the European Union. With an estimated net worth of $16.2 billion, Timchenko is the founder of the Volga Group, which specializes in investments in energy, transport and infrastructure assets.

The 213-foot Lady M was also seized by the Italians while moored in the Riviera port town of Imperia. In a tweet announcing the seizure on Friday, a spokesman for Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said the comparatively modest $27 million vessel was the property of sanctioned steel baron Alexei Mordashov, listed as Russiaā€™s wealthiest man with a fortune of about $30 billion.

But Mordashovā€™s upsized yacht, the 464-foot Nord, was safely at anchor on Friday in the Seychelles, a tropical island chain in the Indian Ocean not under the jurisdiction of U.S. or EU sanctions. Among the worldā€™s biggest superyachts, Nord has a market value of $500 million.

Since Friday, Italy has seized $156 million in luxury yachts and villas in some of its most picturesque destinations, including Sardinia, the Ligurian coast and Lake Como.

Most of the Russians on the annual Forbes list of billionaires have not yet been sanctioned by the United States and its allies, and their superyachts are still cruising the worldā€™s oceans.

The evolution of oligarch yachts goes back to the tumultuous decade after the 1991 fall of the Soviet Union, as state oil and metals industries were sold off at rock-bottom prices, often to politically connected Russian businessmen and bankers who had provided loans to the new Russian state in exchange for the shares.

Russiaā€™s nouveau riche began buying luxury yachts similar in size and expense to those owned by Silicon Valley billionaires, heads of state and royalty. Itā€™s a key marker of status in Moscow and St. Petersburg, and size matters.

ā€œNo self-respecting Russian oligarch would be without a superyacht,ā€ said William Browder, a U.S.-born and now London-based financier who worked in Moscow for years before becoming one of the Putin regimeā€™s most vocal foreign critics. ā€œItā€™s part of the rite of passage to being an oligarch. Itā€™s just a prerequisite.ā€

As their fortunes ballooned, there was something of an arms race among the oligarchs, with the richest among them accumulating personal fleets of ever more lavish boats.

For example, Russian metals and petroleum magnate Roman Abramovich is believed to have bought or built at least seven of the worldā€™s largest yachts, some of which he has since sold off to other oligarchs.

In 2010, Abramovich launched the Bermuda-flagged Eclipse, which at 533 feet was at the time the worldā€™s longest superyacht. Features include a wood-burning firepit and swimming pool that transforms into a dance floor. Eclipse also boasts its own helicopter hangar and an undersea bay that reportedly holds a mini-sub.

Dennis Cauiser, a superyacht analyst with VesselsFinder, said oligarch boats often include secret security measures worthy of a Bond villain, including underwater escape hatches, bulletproof windows and armored panic rooms.

ā€œEclipse is equipped with all sorts of special features, including missile launchers and self-defense systems on board,ā€ Cauiser said. ā€œIt has a secret submarine evacuation area and things like that.ā€

Eclipse was soon eclipsed by Azzam, purportedly owned by the emir of Abu Dhabi, which claimed the title of longest yacht when it was launched in 2013. Three years after that, Usmanov launched Dilbar, which replaced another slightly smaller yacht by the same name. The new Dilbar is the worldā€™s largest yacht by volume.

Abramovich, whose fortune is estimated at $12.4 billion, fired back last year by launching Solaris. While not as long as Eclipse or as big as Dilbar, the $600 million Bermuda-flagged boat is possibly even more luxurious. Eight stories tall, Solaris features a sleek palisade of broad teak-covered decks suitable for hosting a horde of well-heeled partygoers.

But no boat is top dog for long. At least 20 superyachts are reported to be under construction in various Northern European shipyards, including a $500 million superyacht being built for the American billionaire Jeff Bezos.

ā€œItā€™s about ego,ā€ Cauiser said. ā€œThey all want to have the best, the longest, the most valuable, the newest, the most luxurious.ā€

But, he added, the escalating U.S. and EU sanctions on Putin-aligned oligarchs and Russian banks have sent a chill through the industry, with boatbuilders and staff worried they wonā€™t be paid. It can cost upwards of $50 million a year to crew, fuel and maintain a superyacht.

The crash of the ruble and the tanking of Moscow stock market have depleted the fortunes of Russiaā€™s elite, with several people dropping off the list of Forbes billionaires last week. Cauiser said he expects some oligarch superyachts will soon quietly be listed by brokers at fire-sale prices.

The 237-foot Stella Maris, which was seen by an AP journalist docked this past week in Nice, France, was believed to be owned by Rashid Sardarov, a Russian billionaire oil and gas magnate. After publication of an earlier version of this story, AP was contacted Sunday by yacht broker Joan Plana Palao, who said his company represents a U.S. citizen from California who purchased the Stella Maris last month. He declined to disclose the name of the buyer or the person from whom the boat had been purchased.

On Thursday, the U.S. Treasury Department issued a new round of sanctions that included a press release touting Usmanovā€™s close ties to Putin and photos of Dilbar and the oligarchā€™s private jet, a custom-built 209-foot Airbus A340-300 passenger liner. Treasury said Usmanovā€™s aircraft is believed to have cost up to $500 million and is named Bourkhan, after his father.

Usmanov, whose fortune has recently shrunk to about $17 billion, criticized the sanctions.

ā€œI believe that such a decision is unfair and the reasons employed to justify the sanctions are a set of false and defamatory allegations damaging my honor, dignity and business reputation,ā€ he said in a statement issued through the website of the International Fencing Federation, of which he has served as president since 2008.

Abramovich has not yet been sanctioned. Members of the British Parliament have criticized Prime Minister Boris Johnson for not going after Abramovichā€™s U.K.-based assets, which include the professional soccer club Chelsea. Under mounting pressure, the oligarch announced this past week he would sell the $2.5 billion team and give the net proceeds ā€œfor the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine.ā€

Meanwhile, location transponders showed Solaris moored in Barcelona, Spain, on Saturday. Eclipse set sail from St. Maarten late Thursday and is underway in the Caribbean Sea, destination undisclosed.

This magical machine KISMET is the second yacht Iā€™ve had built with Moran Yacht & Ship. KISMET has brought joy, hope, and the gift of discovery to many lives - including my own. You have made this world a better place! Owner, KISMET
By way of background, my business interests include controlling stakes in 3 publicly traded companies which operate vessels in the 500 to 5000dwt range. On average, one new vessel a year would be added to the fleet. As a result, I have access to in-house marine architects, engineers and construction supervisors. Consequently, when I decided to build my first large motor yacht, I did not feel I needed the services of a company like Moran Yacht & Ship. In any event, I was persuaded to let them negotiate on my behalf while I simultaneously held discussions with other building options. Moran Yacht & Ship understands yachts, their incredibly complex systems, and what constitutes a practical solution to various ownersā€™ ideas. In short, I would not consider building another yacht without engaging Moran Yacht & Ship to provide the services they are so good in delivering. Former Owner, NORTHERN STAR
