Tropical Island Paradise superyacht Concept
By Adrian Prisca
Published on July 27, 2011
The newest concept from Yacht Island Design is The Tropical Island Paradise superyacht, a massive 90m yacht which is shaped, as its name states, as a tropical island. This new crazy, yet interesting yacht concept seems to resemble a secluded volcanic island with elements inspired from islands from the Caribbean, Indian Ocean and Polynesia as well.
The exterior of the yacht looks contemporary and in the same time it gives the impression of waves breaking around a volcanic island. The main deck is a private beach with a large swimming pool located forward that is fed by a stream of water coming from a cascading waterfall on the volcano further aft. A couple of private cabanas located between palm trees line the edge of the pool and provide a relaxing outlook over the pool and the ocean.
Behind these cabanas there’s a bar area, a seating area and an area for al fresco dining. Tropical Island Paradise can accommodate up to 10 charter guests in its luxurious cabins. The owner’s suite is located inside the volcano and spread over two decks with a balcony and private spa while the remaining suites all have private balconies as well and direct access up into the main deck cabanas.
The yacht also features a dedicated helicopter landing platform, deployable floating beach islands, a cinema, library, games room and gym, a fully equipped spa and a multitude of lounges. The yacht should be able to reach a top speed of 15 knots propelled by a diesel electrical power plant.

Sailing a charter yacht in the vast southern Pacific Ocean can be as relaxing or challenging as you want it to be.
Whether taking a monohull yacht to cover the ground and for sheer sailing pleasure, or a catamaran for its space and family comfort, whether choosing a bareboat or skippered option, the charter zones of Tahiti, Tonga and New Caledonia have it all. Spend your entire sailing holiday never leaving the tranquil blue lagoon, or visit places you've read about that require the rewarding experience of a short ocean passage.
Across in Australia. the Whitsundays, 74 tropical islands most of which are uninhabited, lie protected from the ocean by the outer Great Barrier Reef, a true wonder of the natural world. The cruising grounds of the Whitsunday Islands offer an almost infinite number of anchorages suitable for charter boats, with spectacular beaches set against an aquamarine sea teeming with marine life.Ā
The South Pacific Charter Sailing Experience Ā
The tropical South Pacific islands are sailing destinations of peaceful pleasure. The people are welcoming, the sailing season weather is kind, and the natural enviroment is astounding. It's as if these islands have been put there just for you to enjoy, unaffected as they are by outside influence, even in the 21st century.
The southern hemisphere winter is cruising time in tropical waters: go east to Tahiti, west to New Caledonia, or get right to the heart of the Pacific in the Kingdom of Tonga. Fly into Brisbane, Austrlia and explore the nearby Whitsunday Islands. The choices for chartering in the South Pacific & Oceania are as exciting as they are colourful.Ā And access is easy with well-developed air links across the Pacific.Ā

Current projects and upcoming yacht island concepts
Streets of monaco, the blueprint.
'The Streets of Monaco' is our first design proposal. The theme is based around the Mediterranean principality with the primary focus being the famous grand prix circuit. The idea was to recreate the circuit as a fully functional kart track able to accommodate three karts side by side to allow for plenty of overtaking. By sizing the track in this way it has driven the overall dimensions of the yacht and the placement of the famous landmarks. The Monaco story extends beyond this exterior architecture and into the interior spaces giving a seamless transition as guests move between the various areas of the yacht. The following pages show some early concept sketches and a variety of artist's impressions of the final design.

Exterior and Close Ups
Artists impression of the chosen design for The Streets of Monaco - showing the key landmarks of the principality, Hotel de Paris, Casino, Prince's Palace, Loews Hotel, Port Hercule and La Rascasse.
'The Oasis', located aft, acts as the main boarding point for the yacht, an expansive area modelled on the gardens just outside the Monaco Casino. On entering the Oasis, attention is immediately drawn to the central waterfall feature consisting of upper level pools cascading down into the lower pool and Jacuzzi. Radiating from the pool are numerous shrub lined pathways and secluded seating areas. Large exterior windows surround the entire aft section of the oasis, extending to the full double deck height ceiling allowing natural light to flood the space. Located forward on the lower level is the Spa, with manicure and hair salon, private massage suites, sauna/steam rooms and a large relaxation lounge featuring a spa pool with bar. To either side of the spa entrance are located grand marble staircases and elevator access to the mezzanine, with a cafe bar and magnificent views of the gardens below.
'The Grand Atrium' is the central hub of the yacht, linking the upper and lower living areas. At its centre is a large, ornate spiral staircase which surrounds a waterfall feature that is supplied by the glass bottomed fountain from the garden area above. A small cafe/bar area ensures this feature can be enjoyed while relaxing in comfort. The seven guest suites are located off of the lower atrium level and vary in size, from the more modest 135 m2 suite to the grand 356 m2 VIP suites. All include their own reception room, bathroom, dressing room, bedroom and balcony. The VIP suites have the added luxury of a private office.
The Owner's Apartment
At the farthest end of the Atrium lies the Owners Apartment. Connected to all decks via a private lift and spread over 3 floors, it covers a total 1460 square metres of floor space. As well as the usual lounge with a feature fire place and double height ceiling, office, bedroom, bathroom, his/hers dressing rooms, the apartment also benefits from a listening room, private courtyard, sunroom, numerous balconies and private sundeck with a Jacuzzi/swimming pool.

Tropical island paradise, thumbnail sketches.
These are some of the initial ideas created during the conceptualisation stage showing a wide variety of designs. From these designs, elements and features are extracted and combined to produce the final concept. The brief for this concept was to create an idyllic, floating island, with all the features of a tropical island getaway built into the design. As you can see, from the early stages, we wanted to include elements close to the water, deployable, as well as a mountain/waterfall feature.
Colour Rendering
A colour perspective sketch of the final concept. This shows the design nearing its final form, with colour to better express the mood, and atmosphere of the yachtisland. Here we get a better idea of the open-face swimming pool peering out to sea, and the form of the foliage and waterfall against the superstructure.
Rendered Profile
Profile drawing to show the final design. The profile sketch helps to finally show the scale of elements, and now demonstrates the free-flowing nature of the hull, mimicking waves, and gives an idea of the volume that the body of the ship encompasses, and a rough feel for how much space might be enclosed in its vast structure.
Bird's-Eye View
This image shows a number of the key elements of the exterior main deck. These include the swimming pool, guest cabanas, the bar and outdoor dining. The waterfall can quite clearly been seen running from the volcano and feeding into the swimming pool.
Forward 3/4 View
This view shows the guest cabanas nestled around the pool and highlights the two deck owners' suites carved out of the front of the volcano and looking out across the bow. The interior features an owners suite located inside the volcano and spread over two decks. The living room balcony affords views out over the front of the yacht from behind the waterfall. Located behind the bedroom is the owners private spa.
Rear 3/4 View
The rear view shows off the sculpted wave-form of the superstructure, as well as the rear deck which doubles as a helicopter landing pad, just one of the available options for reaching the yacht whilst at sea. Further accommodation can be seen on the flanks, taking the form of four VIP suites all having private balconies and direct access up into the beach cabanas.
The Beach Deck
One of the more unique features of this yacht is the deployable beach deck which allows acces to the sea for various watersports and sea level relaxation. Indoor entertainment is catered for by way of a cinema, library, games room and gym, with relaxation options in the form of a multitude of lounges each offering their own unique ambiance, and a fully equipped spa.

Project Utopia
Initial concept.
Visions of the future are often constrained by familiarity with the present or reflection on the past. Project Utopia, a collaboration between Yacht Island Design and BMT Nigel Gee, is an avant-garde vision of a future concept free from such restricted thought. Before trying to understand the design one has to examine why the greater majority of yachts have evolved to the traditional form that has derived from millennia of engineering and naval architecture. Once the mind is free from these constraints the possible forms that a concept might take are wide ranging.
Bird's Eye View
Much is made in today's design community of starting with a blank sheet of paper. Yet many if not all yacht concepts revert back to that traditional form; the perception that a yacht should be a form of transport becomes an immediate constraint. Utopia is not an object to travel in, it is a place to be, an island established for anyone who has the vision to create such a place. Measuring 100m in length and breadth, and spanning over 11 decks with the equivalent volume of a present-day cruise liner there is enough space to create an entire micronation.
Where Do You Want To Be?
Utopia is able to adapt to various environments while maintaining guest comfort. With the deployable glass canopy panels covering the interior decks, full climate control is possible, despite the geographical location and outside conditions. The image above left demonstrates a folding deck deployed from one of the leg structures, capable of launching various craft and enjoying the calmer seas.
Below Water Level
In today's context Project Utopia might be viewed as a folly, an extravagant expression of architecture and form based on a perception of the future. The visionary will, however, be able to grasp the paradigm shift and see the future as being totally unconstrained. These low angle views show the azimuthing thrusters, able to propel Utopia through the water.
Key Features
- 100m x 100m in size, with the equivalent deck space of today's cruise liners. - Space to create a bewildering amount of interior design options, such as a retail district, theatre, culinary zone containing an eclectic mix of restaurants and an entertainment zone featuring bars, nightclubs and a casino. - An observatory deck with breath taking 360 degree views at a height of 65m above sea level. - A true architectural, and engineering masterpiece designed to present the smallest possible profile to the water's surface.

Yacht Island Design: Challenging Industry Conventions
In the world of Superyachts, pushing the limits of what is technologically and structurally possible is often the name of the game when it comes to design. Concept yachts provide yacht designers with a unique opportunity to push their imaginations to the limit. But what about Concept Islands ?
Yacht Island Design Ā wanted to create designs that feature locations, rather than transportation, approaching traditional yacht design in a unique way:
“We like to base our designs upon innovative floating platforms. It frees us to explore bold and daring ideas which challenge the accepted norms within the yachting industry. No longer are we bound by the restrictions of a conventional hull shape. This unleashes creative flair and individualism for our clients as well as us!”
In this exclusive interview, we explore their unconventional work, hopes for the future, and their approach to challenging the status quo for yacht design.
The Foundation Idea Of Yacht Island Design
1. Could you describe your ethos and approach to yacht design?
The foundation idea for the company was to offer something different in the yacht design space. We wanted to create designs that were a place to be, choosing to base design on a theme, that could be anything a client desired.
2. Any future hopes and goals for your designs?
Currently, we are in discussions with a couple of potential clients. We hope to start working with them on one of our concepts in the not too distant future.
The Streets Of Monaco
As our first project, we wanted to make a statement by showcasing just how different this design philosophy could be from what is usual in the industry today. We are big motorsport fans, and the idea of putting a kart track on board was one of our first ideas. Combining this with our desire to design themed vessels Monaco seemed like the perfect overarching theme. We tried to capture the style and elegance of Monaco in the design.
Tropical Island Paradise
For our next concept, we wanted to create a design that blended a slightly more traditional-looking super structure with highly themed deck designs.
Project Utopia
Challenging Yacht Design Conventions & Upcoming Projects
1. For your current projects, what was the inspiration behind each design, and how do they challenge the usual conventions of yacht design?
The key element of change relative to conventional yacht design is considering the design primarily as a place to be rather than transportation. But that is not to say they canāt be used as transportation – it is just not the driving requirement. This provides huge scope for design creativity and enables us to offer clients highly personalised, exceptional experiences on the water.
2. What are your upcoming projects, and what new aspects to the design are you aiming to implement?

Luxury Tropical Island Yacht Concept : A Private Paradise
By ada teicu, updated june 13, 2022.
Everyone dreams of exceptional things waiting to happen, of memories waiting to be gathered and of creative ways to explore the surrounding world. This fascinating tropical island yacht project is a dream come true for its designers, the UK based yacht design company Yacht Island Designs .
The floating tropical island would be made out of steel and would measure 90 meters in length, plenty of room to build a luscious and luxurious environment that would sail away in the sunset. A volcano built on the yacht guides water flowing down to the pool, where huts and luscious greenery surround it.
The concept yacht was called the Tropical Island Paradise . A retractable beach deck in the back of the yacht presents an additional comfortable relaxation zone. With four VIP guest suites and a fascinating ownerās suite built into the volcano, the yacht is equipped with high-end features like a cinema, library, games room, gym and sauna.
This is an introduction to luxury yachting – themed yachts – and the idea seems to be an exciting new venture in the world of custom, luxurious yacht design. Love or hate the concept?
