Hello fellow enthusiast. My name is Alan and welcome to my new, updated website.

Those of you who have visited this site before will have observed that nothing much has changed for a number of years and even I have started to feel a bit guilty about my digital inertia. I make no apologies as I assume that you will appreciate that when faced with the option of spending a day in the workshop or spending the day in front of a computer screen, the workshop wins every time. The guilt has now got the better of me and hence this new site.

As a hobby I initially set out to develop and create a kit of parts for the Canterbury J and similar Nottingham J which will enable both the novice model builder, and the experienced builder alike, to create an attractive model with good sailing manners which is also competitive and fun to race. This package, and especially the Nottingham version, has proved popular both for racing and also social sailing but since then I have developed the Nottingham 48 model further and also added the Nottingham 60 to the model range.

I've also made some changes to the kit to reflect how I now make the models for myself. I can't call these "improvements" as the behaviour of the model on the water is unchanged but I think they improve the aesthetic look of the model. They also involve a bit more "modelling" which maybe be something you are looking for...or maybe not! The model can still be built in the original way for those looking for a simpler and quicker completion of their model.

The king plank and outer plank have deeper etching allowing the model builder to use a contrasting stain along the outer plank and king plank. I now also cut the shorter channel for the jib attachment point into the deck for a flush finish and use a different mast ram but the longer channel is likely to offer the racing skipper more tuning possibilities.

The loose sheeting to both the jib and the mainsail is below the deck and the mainsail sheet uses a post between the hatches. The hatches include a bit more detail and I also offer a "lifty" to aid launch and retrieval at the lake. This fits on the deck but is secured to the ballast to avoid stressing the deck when used.

Also on this site is the new International Dragon, a logical extension to the model range and a development of the 60-inch hull. This model contains a number of innovations to model yachting and is designed from outset to carry a Genoa rig.

I've also included on the site (it's becoming more of a "blog" than a web site!) some of the J Class projects I'm working on or will be working on in the future.

The side bar to the left will navigate you to the various sections of the site and clicking on the arrows will open new pages with more detail. There is information on all the models and the various rigs together with the build manuals, racing rules (Canterbury) and a host of additional information designed primarily to help you arrive at the conclusion that your life is incomplete without a model J Class yacht…!!

Radio controlled boats have been around for a long time, modelled from actual boats and ships; they're becoming more technologically advanced with different speeds, and transmission signals that allow you to take your RC Boat out further than ever before. Electric sports boats happen to be the most common amongst the casual hobbyist as they go to 20mph and up from there. Scale remote controlled boats are based upon full size boats, as it states in the name they’re scaled meaning they can be small enough to fit in your hand, or large enough that you will need to transport them via trailer, but often you’ll find mini sized versions of those. Sailboats and yachts like their full size versions, use wind to their advantage, sails acting with the wind to propel the boat. Yachts will typically be controlled by a radio transmitter , using their hands to alter the two joysticks that are sent over two channels on a single radio frequency, then passed on to battery powered motors or servos. Racing power rc boats typically use a fast electric system or an internal combustion system just like a regular car. When using an internal combustion system the speed boat will have a submerged propeller at the back that provides thrust to move the rc boat, then there's two controls which help you turn called rudders , one for the left side then one for the right, as well as basic features that most rc boats have racing boats come with addition functions to improve realism like sounding fog horns, rotating radar antennae, remote mixing control. Set Up and Sail

The V11 detailing is simple but effective. In conjunction with the V11 Set Up Guide, assembly is straight forward, and vital tuning information assists you to quickly understand and master your V11's potential

Vickers RC Sailing build processes are well refined and thought out.

Our boats are light, stiff and clever,  keeping to a simple and effective philosophy around detailing

The V11 design is a hull, foils and bulb package to compliment the full range of conditions experienced in RC Sailing. The hull design has full volume forward and features the familiar chines and tumblehome of the modern IOM for reduced weight and windage, as well as good tracking characteristics. The V11 features our peaked style foredeck for efficient water shedding when buried downwind and a geometrically strong shape for the forestay and mast ram areas.

Foils are slippery and strategically positioned with the rig to balance the yacht. The V11s forgiving balance through the wind range, allows the skipper to focus on the race at hand, and not rely on micro steering to maintain a consistent VMG.

The rig sits solid on its deck stepped mast step, complimented at deck level with an encapsulating mast gate arrangement over the mast ram. The rudder tube is rigidly supported inside the moulded servo tray. 

Hull construction is from E-Glass Fibreglass Cloth and High Grade Epoxy Resin.

The foils are Carbon Fibre Layup with High Grade Epoxy Resin.

Paint system is a 2 pot Urethane and the boat is thoroughly post cured before finishing.

The V11 Features-

Ready to accept RMG Winch and Standard sized Rudder Servo

Bow Bumper attached.

Hardware is Bantock including an adjustable mast ram, adjustable mainsheet post and tiller arm.

All necessary fittings attached for standing and running rigging.

The V11 comes out of our workshop in Beach Haven, Auckland New Zealand and is ready to accept rigs and electrics.

We also make sails that can be added to the order, or ordered separately.

RC Laser Sailing Dinghy

The RC Laser Sailboat is a radio-controlled version of the real-life Laser, designed by Bruce Kirby. To date, over 3000 RC Lasers have been sold. They’ve been distributed in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, South America, England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, New Zealand and South Africa. There is a close-knit RC Laser community, with clubs and races all over the world.

The RC Laser has only five main components, and weighs just seven pounds. No tools or special skills are needed to put it together. The hull and deck molded in one piece Polyethylene, Mast is tapered fiberglass composite, two piece, Sail is sleeved to slide over the mast. The sail is made of non-woven polyester composite film.

Mast is stepped into a non-captive deck step that allows mast to swivel. There is no standing rigging. (Note – boat cannot be lifted by its mast because mast will come right out of the step. Boat can be easily lifted by a ring on top of the keel at deck level.), Gooseneck fitting is fixed so boom vang is not necessary, Keel and rudder snap in place with no tools.

There is easy access to radio compartment via snap-lid port and an easy to adjust stainless outhaul.
