St. Thomas Beach Guide
St. Thomas has over 40 major beaches along its sun-drenched coasts. There are strands with crystal blue water and swaying coconut trees where a beach bum can enjoy a lazy-lazy day. For more active beach goers there are sandy coves with activities like windsurfing and kayaking. Some shores are rugged and rocky offering beauty, solitude and the opportunity to daydream about castaway fantasies. And there are widely popular bay-like beaches with amenities such as restaurants, rest rooms, chair rentals and complete water sports centers offering a variety of rental equipment .
St. Thomas Weddings / Romance
DID YOU KNOW THAT... Many couples are opting to save the money (not to mention the stress and hard work) of a big wedding at home by escaping to a Caribbean island for a combination wedding/honeymoon. Upon their return, they can share the event by showing the video and photographs at an informal reception. All the islands are beautiful and, on some, weddings have become a major promotional tool. So why should you choose St. Thomas above others?
Moving To St. Thomas
St. Thomas, one of the three United States Virign Islands, along with St. Croix and St. John, St. Thomas is one of the most beautiful island destinations in the world, dressed with powdery beaches and sun-drenched weather. St. Thomas is located in the Lesser Antilles, 1,600 miles south, south east of New York City; 1,100 east, southeast of Miami; 70 miles of San Juan. St. Thomas and its nearby neighbor St. John, lay between the Atlantic and the Caribbean.
St. Thomas Cruise Ship Arrival
St. Thomas has two cruise ports - - The West India Company Dock (almost universally referred to as Havensight) and Crown Bay. Both are located on the south side of the island not far from Charlotte Amalie. Generally, the ships of Carnival Cruise Lines, Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, and Royal Caribbean (except Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas) dock at Havensight. Cunard, Princess, Holland America and Oasis and Allure typically dock at Crown Bay. This can change depending on the number of ships in port. Deeper draft ships such as Queen Mary 2, Oasis and Allure are required to dock at Crown Bay.

Quaint shops are tucked in historic buildings made of cut coral, molasses mortar, and Danish bricks brought as ballast on the trading ships of the 1700 and 1800s! Interesting shaded courtyards in these restored buildings house shopping arcades. Exploring is fun - there is treasure at every turn! Click here for our Shopping Duty Free Section.

St. Thomas Shopping including Charlotte Amalie and Yacht Haven
Main Street in downtown Charlotte Amalie is the original shopping district on the island and it has the most character. Newer additions are the mall at Crown Bay and the shops at the Yacht Haven Grande. On the east end, Red Hook offers offbeat shops in a low-pressure environment.
By far the most talked-about item for sale on St. Thomas is jewelry—from fine name brands to upscale knockoffs. In addition to jewelry you’ll find perfume, name-brand skin care products, sunglasses, handbags, liquor, and crystal. Tucked amid big-name retailers like A.H. Riise, Little Switzerland, and Cartier are unique boutiques that peddle wares ranging from Caribbean coffee to colorful Turkish imports. There is also a growing number of art galleries.
Shopping in Charlotte Amalie
Main street.
The original St. Thomas shopping experience is found in downtown Charlotte Amalie, where old sugar warehouses and 18th- and 19th-century townhouses have been converted into a bustling shopping district. Cobblestone walks, old stone walls, and classic West Indian architecture add to the enjoyment of being downtown. Don’t miss Royal Dane Mall, Palm Passage, or Hibiscus Alley, narrow alleys that offer ambience in spades.
Main Street is the main artery of Charlotte Amalie’s shopping district. Stores open big double doors to the street, expelling tantalizing breezes of high-powered air-conditioning (not very energy-efficient, but it’s good for sales). Once a fixture of the shopping district, loudmouthed barkers have gone mute, thanks to a law banning them, but the most enterprising entrepreneurs still find ways to badger passersby.
More than the shopkeepers, however, it is your fellow shoppers who steal the show. Cruise ships disgorge visitors of all types and stripes on St. Thomas, and most find themselves here—strolling along a Main Street glutted with taxis and crammed with tourists. Some shoppers appear merely out for a stroll, others have a distinct sense of purpose. For a bargain-hunting shopper or expert haggler, Charlotte Amalie is a trove of opportunity. The best way to haggle is to simply suggest a lower price than what’s posted and begin negotiating. Haggling is most successful at the smaller, family-owned shops. At large name-brand stores, you may receive a small discount.
Most Main Street shops open by 9 a.m. and close between 4 and 5 p.m. These shops cater to tourists, and on days when no cruise ship is in town you’re likely to find most shuttered, especially on Sunday.
It is simply impossible to overlook the major retailers on Main Street. Diamonds International (340/774-1516), Little Switzerland (340/776-4110), Cartier (30 Main St., 284/774-1590), and Cardow Jewelers (340/776-1140) are the biggest names in jewelry. Dozens of other shops specialize in jewelry: Okidanokh Goldcraft (Palm Passage and Royal Dane Mall, 340/775-3060) features unique work by designer Abel Fabri, and H. Stern (32 and 8 Main St., 340/776-1146) features the light, airy designs of Brazil.
Boolchands (340/776-0302) and Royal Caribbean (340/776-4110) have a wide selection of cameras, other electronics, and watches.
Liquor and Perfume
Thanks to the island’s duty-free status, liquor prices on St. Thomas are about half those of the U.S. mainland. Airline rules limiting liquids in carry-on luggage have complicated life for travelers, but shops will pack your purchases in boxes suitable to be checked. (Alternatively, buy your liquor at Caribbean Host (340/776-4000) inside the departure gate at Cyril E. King Airport and carry it on.)
A.H. Riise (37 Main St., 340/776-2303), which was founded in 1838 as the island’s apothecary, is today the biggest name in downtown liquor, but it also sells perfume and a smattering of fine art prints. Dynasty Dazzlers (No. 1 Main St., 340/776-8935) also specializes in liquor and perfume.
For island crafts, visit Native Arts and Crafts (488 Tolbod Gade, 340/777-1153, Mon.–Fri. 9 a.m.–4 p.m., Sat. 9 a.m.–2 p.m.), a cooperative for local artisans next to Vendor’s Plaza. Here you’ll find locally made lace, dolls, woodwork, decorative arts, and music.
Gallery St. Thomas (Palm Passage, 340/777-6363) features works by dozens of local and regional artists, ranging from contemporary pieces to traditional island scenery. The gallery sells paintings, wood sculpture, ceramics and glass, metal sculpture, and photography, as well as prints and reproductions.
The Jonna White Gallery (A.H. Riise Mall, 340/774-1201) sells colorful graphic prints.
The vibrant paintings and intricate etchings of artist David Hill are available from the David Hill Gallery (Royal Dane Mall, 340/714-4400). Lucinda O’Connell’s abstract watercolors, as well as her charming landscapes inspired by the islands, are featured at Cloud Nine Studio (No. 1 Norre Gade, 340/514-2432), near the St. Thomas synagogue. The artist-in-residence at the Ritz-Carlton, O’Connell also teaches watercolor classes for visitors.

Down Island Traders (Waterfront and 14A Norre Gade, 340/775-7019) stocks an appealing selection of Caribbean arts, crafts, spices, and more.
The rich smell of chocolate draws shoppers into The Belgian Chocolate Factory (A.H. Riise Mall, 340/777-5247), which sells boxes of high-end imported chocolate, as well as hot chocolate, coffee, cookbooks, and other foodrelated items.
Mr. Tablecloth, Inc. (6 Main St., 340/774-4343) is an institution that stocks a dazzling array of tablecloths, placemats, lace, and embroidered accessories, plus nightgowns, baby clothes, and lovely lace parasols, ideal for the St. Thomas sun.
There are more and more shops selling clothes. Cariloha (Grand Galleria, 340/774-5506) has a collection of clothing manufactured from bamboo. Look like you just came back from vacation with clothes from Fresh Produce (A.H. Riise Mall, 340/774-0807), a store stocking tropical-toned sundresses, tops, bathing attire, and accessories. Get shorts, tops, sunglasses, and hats to pull off a surfer look at Billabong (5120 Dronnigens Gade, 340/774-4010, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Sat.).
Zora of St. Thomas (5040 Norre Gade, 340/774-2559) has been making custom leather sandals for men and women since 1962. Devoted followers swear by the unbeatable comfort of sandals designed especially for your feet. Zora, located across from F.D.R. Park, also sells handmade canvas bags, locally blown glass, and jewelry.
Vendor’s Plaza
Located at the eastern end of downtown, next to Emancipation Gardens, is an open-air tourist market called Vendor’s Plaza. This is where to come for cheap goods: colorful sarongs, St. Thomas T-shirts, jewelry, and handbags. You can also usually find people offering to plait your hair into dreadlock-like braids. The plaza is “open” on days when a cruise ship is in port but deserted on other days.
Shopping in Yacht Haven
Lying between downtown and Havensight, Yacht Haven Grande (9100 Port of Sale, 340/774-5030) is a marina and outdoor mall, with restaurants, boutiques, and condos. Catering to well-heeled visitors off of visiting mega-yachts, Yacht Haven has the island’s most upscale shopping. Shops here are generally open 10 a.m.–5 p.m. daily.
Retailers include Coach, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, bebe, and Bulgaria . At How About Your Pet you can purchase all manner of toys, clothing, and cutesy accessories for your dog, and Kool Kidz sells children’s clothing, including a wide selection of tutus. Bella Vera (340/774-0374) is a small boutique specializing in name-brand women’s clothing from cocktail dresses to jeans.
Shopping in Crown Bay
Located alongside the Crown Bay cruise ship dock, Crown Bay Center (161 Sub Base, 340/774-2132) is an enclosed mall, with many of the same retailers you will find downtown and at Havensight. There are also small kiosks selling T-shirts and other souvenirs. If Crown Bay is your port of entry, or if it’s raining or otherwise unpleasant outside, this is a good place to shop.
Shopping in Havensight
Havensight is the outdoor shopping mall next to the West Indian Company cruise ship dock, the main cruise ship dock on St. Thomas. Havensight has a well-worn but comfortable ambience and many of the same retailers as Main Street. Shops here are generally open 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday–Sunday, but some close without notice if there’s no cruise ship at the dock, especially on Sundays. Dockside Books (Building 6, 340/774-4837) is the island’s best bookstore, with a fine collection of new releases, reference, and local authors.
Shopping in Red Hook and the East End
Red Hook’s American Yacht Harbor offers an alternative to jewelry and perfume stores. Stylish island-style apparel and a wide selection of Crocs, Teva, and other brands of warm-weather footwear are in stock at Keep Left (340/775-9964). For silver jewelry and lightweight linen clothing, stop at Elizabeth Jane’s (340/779-1595). Pirates of Red Hook (340/775-5595) has a fun selection of pirate and nautical-themed gifts as well as exclusive jewelry manufactured from authentic artifacts off historic shipwrecks. For incense, wall hangings, and the island’s most extensive selection of bongs, make your way to Rhiannons (340/779-1877). Surfers and skateboarders can buy equipment (plus clothing to look the part) at Evolution Surf and Skate (340/715-0012), home of the “Red Hook Low Life” T-shirts that are all the rage.
Shopping in Tillet Gardens
Located in Estate Tutu and surrounded by colorful murals, Tillett Gardens (Anna’s Retreat, 340/779-1929) is an arts community named for its founder, silkscreen artist Jim Tillett. Tillett founded the arts center on an old Danish farm in the 1960s. Today, the surrounding area has evolved into a busy shopping district, but Tillett Gardens is still a quiet oasis. It is home to a half dozen artists’ studios and galleries, including Ridvan Studio (340/776-0901), a working clay studio specializing in raku wall sculptures, and FStop (340/626-0666), a photography studio featuring the work of former Virgin Islands Daily News photographer Steve Rockstein, whose contemporary compositions feature scenes from New York and the Virgin Islands. Look for Tillet Gardens opposite Four Winds shopping plaza, near Tutu Mall.

Arrival information details.
Advanced reservations are strongly recommended at Yacht Haven Grande, St. Thomas. We cannot guarantee available berthing for guests arriving without a reservation.
11:00 am | 1:00 pm |
When feasible, we request an estimated time of arrival 24hr in advance so we can be fully prepared for your arrival and minimize any inconvenience. Upon arrival into the Charlotte Amalie Bay, contact the marina office on VHF Channel 16 or 10 to obtain a slip assignment. A skilled dock attendant will report to the slip to assist with docking, line handling, and connections. Once comfortably settled, we ask that you visit our marina office to check-in. The staff will answer any questions you have.
Upon departure, we request you contact the marina office 1-2 hours prior to departure to ensure all items are in order. A receipt can be provided at the marina office or emailed upon request to the email address provided at the time of check-in. If all items are in order, please hail the marina office on VHF Channel 16 if you would like assistance with disconnection and lines.
Early Check-in / Late Check-out
If a slip is occupied after 4:30 pm on the day of your scheduled departure, an additional night’s dockage will be charged to your account.
We will do our absolute best to accommodate your requests whenever possible. In most cases, if your slip is available prior to 4:30 pm on the day of your arrival, or after 10:30 am on the day of your departure, we will allow you to remain in the slip at no additional charge. Prior arrangements must be made with the marina office for early arrival or delayed departure in order to avoid unnecessary charges.
Temporary Slips
In the event an early check-in and/or late check-out is unable to be accommodated in your currently slip, we will try to accommodate by making another slip available until such time your slip is available or you are ready to depart the marina.
In the event a temporary slip is made available to you, and you do not relocate the vessel, the marina reserves the right to charge you two times (2x’s) the original daily rate for each night you occupy the temporary slip.
This is necessary as at times, the marina operates at full occupancy and failure to relocate the vessel could negatively affect other guests.
CANCELLATION POLICY
While Yacht Haven Grande, St. Thomas does not issue refunds, in certain circumstances, the marina can hold deposits paid for use up until the following October 31st. Deposits will be forfeited at the start of the new season on November 1st.
Please note: Cancellation policies are subject to change. Please refer to your reservation confirmation or contact the marina office direct for confirmation of cancellation policy. Cancellation requests must be submitted directly to the marina. Any cancellation requests received through the IGY Marinas website are not considered proper cancellation.

Inspire Giving through You – February 23, 2019
Bertha c. boschulte middle school.
Yacht Haven Grande, St. Thomas and American Yacht Harbor teamed up with My Brother’s Workshop to support a local middle school. Marina teams and volunteers split into groups and assisted in the clean-up of storm debris left over from Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Five full loads of debris were disposed of. In addition, teams comprised of employees, local businesses, owners, captains and crew participated in helping The Bertha C. Shopping in St. Thomas: Where to Go & What to Buy
By Lauren Breedlove
Last updated: June 3rd, 2024
- Find a Cruise
In addition to world-class beaches and striking blue seas, the Caribbean island of St. Thomas is also known for its fantastic shopping scene. With several popular shopping spots on the island, you’ll have no problem finding the perfect souvenir to bring home that will always remind you of your fantastic paradise vacation.
Try out your bargaining skills in the malls in the capital city of Charlotte Amalie and the quaint alleyways lined with boutiques. While shopping in St. Thomas, you can purchase duty-free items that are exempt from taxes, like local art, jewelry, and even fresh seafood.
Main Street, Downtown Charlotte Amalie
Charlotte Amalie’s Main Street is a premier destination for shoppers visiting the island of St. Thomas. Historically, this street, which is also referred to as Dronningens Gade, served as the original shopping district for the capital city.
Stroll the bustling cobblestone lane in the heart of Charlotte Amalie, which is lined with high-end shops and cozy restaurants that were previously used as pirate warehouses. Find beautiful jewelry pieces, watches, and souvenirs, as well as perfume, liquor, and tobacco. If you’re interested in shopping for jewelry, highlights include Diamonds International, Cardow Jewelers, and Bobby’s Jewelers.
Make sure to venture down the quaint side alleyways, too, where more boutiques await with hidden gems. Main Street is one of the top spots for shopping in St. Thomas.
Vendor’s Plaza, Downtown Charlotte Amalie
Peruse the lively booths of Vendor’s Plaza in downtown Charlotte Amalie, where you’ll find local vendors selling an array of goods. The plaza is located in Emancipation Park, adjacent to the Legislature building and the historical Fort Christian structure, the oldest building in the USVI’s.
Browse Caribbean souvenirs and trinkets, clothing, knockoff designer purses, casual jewelry, and hats. If you work up an appetite from all that shopping, make sure to stop by one of the local food stalls where you can try West Indian fare. For a refreshing and delicious treat, follow it up with an ice cream cone.
Mountain Top, St. Peter Mountain
One of the best things to do in St. Thomas is to shop with a view at the famed Mountain Top destination. Situated at the highest point on St. Thomas, Mountain Top offers a panoramic vista to accompany your shopping experience. A sizable gift shop with duty-free items draws visitors to St. Peter Mountain, one of the most popular attractions in St. Thomas for the last fifty years. Browse goods such as beachwear, sandals, artwork, jewelry, and a wide array of Caribbean souvenirs.
But that’s not all. Enjoy breathtaking views from the observation deck, perched 1,500 feet above the sea, and gaze down at Magens Bay and the surrounding islands—you’ll want your camera to capture this incredible scene. Make sure to try the famous banana daiquiri, an iconic drink with a rich history on the island that is made with local Cruzan Rum.

Located right on the cruise ship dock in Charlotte Amalie, Havensight Mall is a collection of duty-free shops by the water. The mall is known as the first shopping area in the USVIs. Shop for souvenirs of all kinds, including trinkets, jewelry, clothing, watches, and sunglasses. For an extensive choice of books, head to the famed Dockside books store. Lively restaurants with Caribbean cuisine and laid-back flair are available for refreshments as well.
Paradise Point, Charlotte Amalie

Located near Havensight Mall, you’ll find the Skyride to Paradise Point, a major attraction with sprawling views of the bay. Embark on a thrilling ride up to the observation deck where you’ll be rewarded with a memorable panorama, overlooking Charlotte Amalie as well as the southern coast of the island.
The gondola ride lasts approximately seven minutes and presents the perfect opportunity for beautiful photographs. Don’t miss shopping at the gift shop at the summit, too.
While taking in the awe-inspiring view, make sure to try the famous Bushwacker cocktail, which was invented on St. Thomas. The chocolate-flavored piña colada concoction will hit the spot after you’re done perusing the gift shop for Caribbean souvenirs.
Tillet Gardens, East End
Originally an art studio and gallery space, Tillet Gardens on the island’s east end is an ideal shopping destination for those interested in authentic arts and crafts. The space supports local artisans, selling handmade jewelry, pottery, silk-screened fabrics, paintings, candles, leather goods, and other handcrafted products.
In this unique space, you can watch artists work as you peruse their incredible products. If you have time, it’s possible to schedule a workshop led by some of the artists as well, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn the basics of their craft. Stop by the music studio or the on-site theater for occasional performances, as well. Enjoy local seafood and other Caribbean cuisine staples at the restaurant within Tillet Gardens after doing some authentic shopping.
Moe’s Fresh Market and Stone House Cellars, Red Hook
Head to Moe’s Fresh Market for gourmet food items on the island of St. Thomas. You’ll have the opportunity to shop local goods on the east side of the island, as most of the market’s products are sourced from the island community’s farmers and fishermen.
This is a great source for high-quality food and drinks for a beach picnic, as there’s fantastic produce, freshly baked bread, gourmet cheeses, and just-caught seafood, including mahi-mahi, yellowfin tuna, and Caribbean lobster. A second location is located in Charlotte Amalie.
If you’re interested in trying some world-famous Caribbean rum, you can buy various brands here, too. Wine enthusiasts will find a wide selection of wine varieties within the Stone House Cellars section of the market. Choose from premium whites and reds to savor during your time on the island.
If you visit on a weekend, you may have the chance to participate in a wine tasting that will help you discover your perfect variety. No matter what type you choose, they all pair well with gorgeous island scenery, particularly at sunset.

Royal Dane Mall, Charlotte Amalie
Feel like you’ve stepped back in time at the Royal Dane Mall’s historic pedestrian alleyway, which is filled with small boutiques in downtown Charlotte Amalie. Peruse hand-crafted souvenirs and take home an authentic cultural token of St. Thomas.
Enjoy shopping in this quaint open-air mall that features a collection of eclectic items for sale, many of which are housed within historic sugar warehouses. This section of the city dates back to Danish colonial times and is worth exploring for a taste of the island’s history.
If you need refreshments, a stop at the famous Gladys’ Cafe is a must. This welcoming establishment is known for serving up delicious fare for both breakfast and lunch.
Yacht Haven Grande, Charlotte Amalie
Enjoy the finer side of shopping in the upscale Yacht Haven Grande outdoor mall and marina. Browse designer brands like Gucci and Louis Vuitton, peruse boutiques with gorgeous clothing items and even find high-end toy and clothing items for your dog. A children’s boutique offers a selection of wardrobe pieces, swimwear, and accessories as well.
At the nearby cafes and swanky bistros, enjoy a relaxing seaside oasis and sample fine food and drinks. Occasionally, outdoor concerts are performed here, too.
Mango Tango Art Gallery, Charlotte Amalie East
For unique, artsy gifts, head to Mango Tango Art Gallery in Charlotte Amalie East, just outside the buzzing city center. Browse hand-crafted artwork of all kinds and discover the perfect gift or souvenir to display in your home.
Unearth gems created by local artists that celebrate island culture and heritage, in addition to internationally-known artists who find inspiration in St. Thomas. Many mediums are for sale, such as photos, sculptures, textiles, wooden pieces, paintings, ceramics, and crafts. The gallery also provides framing services for paintings.

Practical guide to the Havensight Dock for cruises to St Thomas: what's in the cruise terminal, all services and amenities, tourist info, duty-free shops, taxi fares, car rental, and more.
By: Editor-in-Chief Update: June 1, 2023
The Havensight Dock is the closest docking spot to Charlotte Amalie and within walking distance to the main town of St Thomas. The Havensight Terminal is a vast open-air mall with all services and amenities cruisers may need, and a large area with duty-free shops.
Close to the long pier of the Havensight Dock, cruise passengers will find two exciting highlights of St Thomas: the Butterfly Farm (temporarily closed) and the famous Skyride to Paradise Point with stunning views of St Thomas.

Docking, Piers and Shopping Mall
There are three docking spots in the Havensight Cruise Ship Dock on its 3/4 of a mile (1 km) long pier. Next to each docking spot, there is an exit gate to a large area - the Havensight Mall - where cruise ship passengers will find almost all amenities.
Cruise Tip: cruisers must have both the ship card and one photo ID to re-enter the pier.
Havensight Pier - St. Thomas
For those on shore excursions booked onboard, there will be ship staff guiding the cruise traveler to the tour buses. If you booked on-line with independent tour operators, the local guides will be waiting outside the exit gates.
Havensight Mall Entrance
As you walk out of any of the four exit gates there will be taxis offering transportation to all main attractions, beaches, a simple ride to Charlotte Amalie or even a sightseeing tour of the Island. Taxis are the best way to travel around in St Thomas. More about taxis below .
Tourist Information
Close to both Gate 1 and Gate 2 there is a large and excellent Tourist Information office where you can pick up maps, brochures, printed guides to St Thomas and the US Virgin Islands. This is the ideal place to go if you wish to explore the Island on your own or discover hidden gems of St Thomas.

Shopping in Havensight
St Thomas is famous for being a shopper's paradise. And in the Havensight Mall, the cruise passenger will find a number of one-story buildings with some of the major shops in St Thomas like Diamonds International, Colombian Emeralds, or Boolchand's amongst other well-known shops in the Caribbean.
Most cruise travelers interested in duty-free jewelry, watches, and electronics do travel to Charlotte Amalie where the top shops are located. But the shops in Havensight shouldn't be missed. To learn more about these shops read our shopping guide to the Havensight Mall.
Close by, the Yacht Haven Marina use to have the best and high-end shops in St Thomas, like Bulgari, Coach, Gucci or Salvatore Ferragamo. Sadly, all these shops have closed after the Hurricane Season in 2017.
Convenience Stores in Havensight
If all you are looking for is liquor, spirits, fragrances, tobacco, gifts or souvenirs the cruise ship passenger doesn't really need to go all the way to Charlotte Amalie for a shopping spree. There are many shops carrying this type of merchandise in the Havensight Mall. In reality, it is easier to find these type of convenience stores in the Havensight Mall than in Charlotte Amalie.
Amenities, Services and Restaurants
As mentioned before, the Havensight Dock is very well serviced. Keep in mind that St Thomas legal tender is the US Dollar and that if you need cash there are Banks with ATMs.
Bank with ATM in Havensight
The Post Office (USPS) is very close to the piers and there are a few quite nice restaurants. Senor Frogs and the Delly Deck are within the Mall, and just outside you will find Mojos, Hooters, the Barefoot Buddha and the Shipwreck Tavern.
Renting a car may be a good way to enjoy and exploration of St Thomas on your own. Right in front of the pier the cruise traveler will see the Budget Car Rental sign and as you walk out of the Havensight Mall, is impossible to miss Avis.

How to get Charlotte Amalie: on foot or by taxi
Charlotte Amalie is only 1 mile away from the Havensight Dock and can be an easy walk. The most pleasant way to walk downtown is through the Yacht Haven Marina. The marina used to be an upscale shopping and dining area designed for the exclusive clientele of the luxurious yachts visiting St Thomas.
The Yacht Haven Marina was severely hit during the 2017 Hurricane Season. All the high-end shops have closed, but the restaurants are back (some have changed hands), and the grounds are back into their former glory. Walking through the Yacht Haven Marina is still the most pleasant to get to Charlotte Amalie.
Taxi Fares from Havensight Dock
Taxi fares are clearly displayed and are official so you don't really need to worry about getting a good deal and it isn't worth to haggle.
Taxi Dispatch in Havensight
Cruise Tip: as the taxi lines close to the gates can get very full, if you walk to the exit of the mall you may find better service in that Taxi Dispatching area. Taxis in St Thomas are shared and you will need to wait for other cruise companions but it usually doesn't take longer than a few minutes.

Attractions close to the Havensight dock
Within walking distance of the Havensight Dock, there are two top attractions of St Thomas - the Butterfly Farm, which is under restoration works, and the Skyride to Paradise Point. Both sites can easily be enjoyed after or before a half-day tour of the Island.
Paradise Point
The Skyride to Paradise Point is outside the Havensight Mall. Turn left, once outside the exit in the direction of Charlotte Amalie. After no more than a 5-minute walk, the colorful Skyride will be on your right. The views from Paradise Point are spectacular and a photo-op not to be missed.
Closed Attractions within Walking Distance
The Butterfly Farm is on the grounds of the Havensight Mall, on the right end of the pier, behind Senor Frogs . Both were devastated during the 2017 Hurricane season .
Butterfly Farm in Havensight
The Butterfly Farm used to be a great place for those traveling with children and it is advisable to check if and when it reopens. Senor Frogs wasn't open in March 2020 when IQCruising last visited the Havensight Dock. And it doesn't look like it will be opening any time soon.
