Upon successful completion of our Powerboat training course , candidates may submit an application to the RYA to obtain an International Certificate for Operators of Pleasure Craft (ICC) for the category of “Power up to 10m” – subject to eligibility (see below).
The ICC is intended to provide evidence of competence when requested by officials in foreign countries.
It is issued by the RYA in the United Kingdom to British Nationals and UK Residents (of any nationality), aged 16 or older.
If you are neither a British national nor resident in the UK, check here whether the RYA can issue your ICC
The RYA currently charge a certificate fee of £55 for issue of the ICC (free for RYA members), which is valid for 5 years.
The cost of RYA membership is equivalent to (or in some cases cheaper than) the cost of ICC certification; for non-members, it is worth considering RYA membership at the point of application.
If you require the inland category to be validated on your ICC (this is required for use of inland waterways – rivers, canal systems and lakes in Europe), you will need to complete a CEVNI theory test. For full details, supporting materials/resources, and test bookings, please visit: www.focusmarine.co.uk/cevni
We can conduct own-boat ICC assessments in UK/European waters for the following categories:

The International Certificate for Operators of Pleasure Craft (ICC) is a certificate which is intended to provide evidence of competence when requested by officials in foreign countries. It was historically known as the International Certificate of Competence. It’s often required for demonstrating competence when bareboat chartering/renting boats abroad (ie. without a professional skipper/crew).
You can apply for an ICC after completing an RYA Level 2 Powerboat course.
The easiest way to apply for your ICC is to apply online via the RYA website

The rya powerboat training scheme is for those wanting to drive small open powerboats such as ribs (rigid inflatable boats), sports boats and small launches..
This two-day entry-level course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence (ICC). It focuses on low-speed close-quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed and collision regulations.
This two days course gives plenty of time for both practical instruction and theory. Whilst at first glance the syllabus appears very similar to the level one course, the extra time available makes a real difference to the depth in which subjects are covered and therefore the amount a student can learn.
All our courses are held in Latchi; Theory will be held in our classroom at our office in Latchi, and the practice is held along the coast of Latchi. All Courses are delivered in English Language only.
For more info on the courses, please use the “contact us” form or email us at [email protected] with the number of people interested in the course and the dates you wish to do the course.
The RYA Level 2 Powerboat course costs €450 and is scheduled over two days – including a theory and practical examination.
You will learn and enhance your Powerboat manoeuvring skills on a range of boats available in Latchi Harbour from George’s Watersports.
Our RYA Training Courses are conducted throughout the year, and we suggest that you do book well in advance to secure your place.
The RYA offer the Powerboat Level 2 course for anyone 12 years and older, however, our centre took the decision to only offer this course to people over 18 years old.

RYA & STCW Courses – Sail, Power, Super-Yacht & Workboat
The Yachtmaster Certificate of Competence Exam can be taken in a powered or sail craft (i.e. there are two separate disciplines). Much of the route (the shorebased courses) is identical for both disciplines.
There are actually three levels of Yachtmaster ( Coastal, Offshore and Ocean). When people refer to “Yachtmaster” they are generally referring to Yachtmaster Offshore. This article focuses on Coastal and Offshore, our separate article, “ What is an Ocean Yachtmaster ” deals with the higher level of the three.
The route to Yachtmaster Coastal and Offshore is similar, candidates for both will have followed a similar pathway, but the offshore candidate will have logged considerably more experience prior to exam and will be pushed harder during the exam. Visit our helpful RYA Advanced and Yachtmaster Qualifying mileage page for more information.
The route to Yachtmaster has several stepping stones, most students work through Day Skipper Shorebased and Day Skipper Practical and then Coastal Skipper , however if you already have relevant experience and skills you can consider skipping these courses.
Before considering embarking on a Yachtmaster practical week , you must arm yourself with;
You are also strongly advised to take the RYA Sea Survival or STW PST Course (1 day), which is required if you intend to operate as a commercial Yachtmaster (most candidates take the exam for commercial reasons and add the RYA Commercial Endorsement however some are leisure boaters and do it for themselves).
Our Yachtmaster practical (preparation and exam) week is 5 days, it takes place on board our motorboat and results in the Yachtmaster Coastal or Offshore (Power) Certificates of Competence . If you prefer to take the sail exam we can put you in touch with a sail school once you have all of the above shorebased courses. During the prep week our Instructor will take you through many of the exercises the examiner is likely to throw at you on the final day. We operate the prep week with a maximum of 3 students.
