Met all our needs for Reception and dinner. Food was great and portions fair. Stephanie our server was great. Met all my requirements. Very beautiful venue.

Marriann Creelman and her staff were fantastic. From early planning stages to wedding day, we enjoyed a very professional, experienced and knowledgeable team, Marriann, in particular, who guided a young bride and groom and made all the planning very effortless on our part. The venue was spotless, the floors freshly waxed and the staff were so accommodating. We were given carte blanche in terms of decoration, but the simple touches such as the baby grand piano make this such a classic setting. The water views, the lovely grounds and expert wait team just made for a wonderful experience. Our guests made comment on the beautiful surroundings and were very impressed with the meal, it was delivered quickly, was very well prepared and presented, the salads cold, the main course piping hot. As the parents of the bride and having attended many ceremonies over the years, I must commend the staff and encourage anyone looking for an intimate waterside wedding (we sat 105+-) to strongly consider the Saraquay House, youwill be delighted.

Saraguay House Wedding | Dingle Park Wedding | Marly & Mike

  • Toronto Wedding Photographer Ryan Visima
  • December 6, 2018
  • Wedding Photography

I couldn’t have been happier to have returned to Nova Scotia this year to photograph another wedding. I’ve known Marly for some years now, through her sister Amy (the maid of honour, naturally). Even though there’s 1,800 km between where Marly and Mike live in Halifax, and where I live in Toronto, they knew I was the right choice for their fall wedding after a consultation via video call.

While last year’s Nova Scotia wedding took place on a warm summer day, Marly and Mike preferred a brisk autumn wedding in late October. The weather is notoriously dicey in Halifax around this time of year, and the weather certainly lived up to its reputation by giving us a very wet, very rainy afternoon. No matter! Armed with clear umbrellas (thanks, Joe Fresh!), the whole wedding party was game to brave the elements and we ended up with a ton of great photos in the rain.

The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron’s Saraguay House was host to the ceremony and reception, and it’s located on an inlet in Halifax known as the Northwest Arm (formerly and hilariously known as Sandwich River). While we couldn’t take advantage of the beautiful location for photos due to the rain, we headed down the road to Sir Sandford Fleming Park (aka Dingle Park) for formal photos. I was initially worried that Marly and Mike’s wedding date would be too late in the season to capture the height of fall colours, but thankfully my worries were misplaced and all the trees were still in top shape.

One thing Marly and Mike really wanted was a photo of themselves on the dock over looking the water at Saraguay House, but because of the rain it was impractical. Instead, during the reception, as the rain continued to pour, we snuck outside to a small gazebo on the property (where Marly and Mike could stay dry) and snapped one last amazing photo to cap off the night. Scroll all the way to the bottom to see it!

We had our wedding at Saraguay house (part of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron) and it was great! The layout was perfect for our plans, though the weather didn't quite cooperate and we had to do the ceremony inside (which wasn't a problem). Catering is baked in with the venue as well, so it's one less thing to have to worry about.
