For the Record!
The 38 th Annual Oregon Offshore International Yacht Race took place May 8-11. Sponsored by the Corinthian Yacht Club of Portland, this race saw 29 boats sail the 193-nm trek from Astoria OR to Victoria BC. Winds and conditions resulted in both an “E-ticket” ride for all participants and a new course record – not an easy feat as it was last set 14 years ago by Rage (Steve Rander, Wylie 70), in 2000, with a finish-time of 19:46:41.
Congratulations to every skipper and crew member for an incredible showing! First place honors go to:
- First to Finish & New Course Record (14:56:20): Icon , Anacortes WA (Kevin Welch, Custom 65)
- First Overall & Santa Cruz 27 Fleet : Blade Runner , Bellingham WA (Ward Naviaux, Santa Cruz 27)
- IRC Fleet : Ocelot , Portland OR (Kevin Flanigan, Fox 44)
- PHRF A Fleet : Time Bandit , West Sound WA (Robert Brunius, J-120)
- PHRF B Fleet : Free Bowl of Soup , Portland OR (Eric Hopper/Doug Schenk/Matt Davis, J-105)
- PHRF C Fleet : California Girl , Portland OR (Timm Lessley/Victoria Lessley, Cal 40)
- PHRF D Fleet : Wy’East , Portland OR (Frank Colistro, Cascade 36)
- Cruising Fleet : Souffle , Portland OR (Phil Lewis, Cal 34)

We always thought the boating and sailing community needed a better events calendar to help the public know about the extraordinary number and variety of on-the-water and nautical events in Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, Victoria, and all the boaty harbors in between. This calendar is our solution, and we hope you find it fills that need. From sailboat races to swap meets, rendezvous to rallies, seminars to seafood fests, we look forward to seeing you out there!
Due to COVID-19, some events may have been cancelled or postponed. Please double check with event organizers before attending.

Pacific NW Offshore (formerly Oregon Offshore) (48N Top 25)
June 10, 2021 - june 13, 2021.
CYC Portland and Schooner Creek Boat Works Announces the 2021 Pacific Northwest Offshore is On!!
June 10-13 2021 from Ilwaco, WA to Port Angeles, WA
With 2020 now in the rear view mirror and with title sponsorship by Schooner Creek Boat Works, the Corinthian Yacht Club of Portland is committed to hold the PNW Offshore this coming summer. We made our decision with deep respect for the challenges faced by every one of us this past year, but with an optimism that by the time set for the race in mid-June precautions and restrictions will allow us to proceed safely for skippers and crew.
So, LET’S GO RACING! We will gather for the start in our host city, Ilwaco, Washington and everyone there is eager to finally have a chance to put on a welcome for the fleet. We will then race 193 rated miles from the Columbia River to the finish line near Port Angeles where we will be hosted by the Port Angeles Yacht Club and welcomed by The City of Port Angeles. The Port Angeles marina has space for us and is eager to have us visit.
The Notice of Race (NOR) will be published shortly, and we will be opening registration at the end of January. So let’s start getting ready. This is going to be a great race and a lot of fun, not to mention the start of a return to offshore racing in the Pacific Northwest.
The elephant in the room is how realistic it is that we can actually hold the race. All we can say is that the CYC Board and all the volunteers are intensely committed to finding a way to make this race happen. We have every intention of providing routine and complete information to competitors as to our progress and to notify them of any changes that would require boats to make adjustments to their preparations including conditions that might lead to cancellation. We intend to include in both the NOR and SI clear provisions relating to cancellation and the refunding of fees. That’s the best we can do for now given the changing Covid landscape.
But, as we said above – LET’S GO RACING! Here’s to seeing you in Ilwaco in June!

43rd edition of Oregon Offshore
Published on April 9th, 2019 by Editor -->
The 2019 Oregon Offshore International Yacht Race starts May 9 for the 43rd edition of the 193-mile race that starts at Buoy 2 off the Columbia River entrance and finishes at the entrance to Victoria, BC harbor.
The entry list includes the usual who’s who of the Portland sailing community, with some very welcome participants coming from out of the area. Local boats of note are Rage, the locally built 68 foot winning offshore racer now owned by David Raney. Joining Rage on the line will be Scott Campbells’s beautiful new Riva, a state of the art J/121, crewed by the usual group of local rock stars.
In addition to other local regulars, Portland J/105 owners will have their own One-Design fleet, with three entrants. An exciting addition to the race will be an entrant from San Francisco, Nathalie Criou, sailing her Figaro 2 with the Shut Up and Drive team. This boat will be participating in the Oregon Offshore, the Swiftsure, and then the Race to Alaska, for boats that are powered by sails or human power only.
This year, in conjunction with the Royal Victoria Yacht Club, the First Annual Cascadia Cup will be awarded to the competitor with the lowest combined time in the Oregon Offshore and qualifying races of the Swiftsure event. The current race record holder is Kevin Welch’s 65′ custom Bob Perry carbon fiber sled Icon which in 2014 set an elapsed time of 14:56:20.
