Naast ieder weekend meevaren met zijn ouders heeft hij ook veel wedstrijden in open boten en kajuitzeiljachten gezeild. Douwe Kutsch Lojenga wilde meer weten van deze tak van sport en is Jachtbouw, Design en Management van een jachtwerf gaan studeren in Southhampton.
