Sanlorenzo 57Steel Reviewed

Stepping aboard the stern of the second Sanlorenzo 57Steel , Virtuosity , I immediately understood what this model is all about: connecting to the environment and entertainment, indoors and outdoors. With the yacht’s side platforms down, the beach-club real estate adds up to almost 1,000 square feet. Add the gym next door, which includes a hammam, sauna and day head, and the whole area becomes one of the best wellness spaces of its kind on a sub-200-foot yacht.

Just like the smaller 52Steel, Sanlorenzo’s 185-foot-long 57Steel has a fold-down transom door. The quarter platforms reveal a sunken beach lounge open on three sides. Its glass-paneled ceiling doubles as the bottom of the main deck’s 13-by-8-foot pool. During the day, this beach club is at its best, bathed in a shimmering pale-blue light. After the sun goes down, its mirror TV (one of several aboard) and four-stool bar make it a great entertainment cave.

The yacht’s light, contemporary interior vibe is the work of Piero Lissoni’s design studio in Milan. The decor majors on oak veneers, soft whites and creams. It’s a less-is-more approach rather than a minimalist one. Interior lounge space includes the after halves of the main and upper decks, which have full-height windows on their sides and sliding patio doors to aft decks. The main salon includes a cocktail-bar entrance to its lounge and dining areas, while the sky lounge is more informal with low-slung sofas and armchairs, mostly from Italian brands Minotti and Cassina.

Music and dancing are also important to Virtuosity’ s owners. What could have been a small media lounge abaft the bridge deck instead has as a DJ booth, turning the top-deck aft terrace into a nightclub dance floor.

All three aft decks connect via stairs outside and with the standout interior design feature: the main spiral staircase from the lower to the upper deck. Created using a combination of steel, aluminum and plywood, and finished with a creamy matte lacquer, it’s gloriously fluted in shapes that seem impossibly organic.

Guest accommodations are spread across three decks. The 540-square-foot owners’ stateroom is forward on the upper deck. It has walk-in closets and a study, a forward-facing bed amid the wraparound picture windows, and a free-standing stone bathtub. From this stateroom, owners can access the two-tier foredeck terrace with a spa pool and free-standing furniture. Virtuosity’ s owners have four armchairs on the lower level, and simple sun pads minimize visual clutter on the higher area.

The VIP stateroom is forward of the main lobby, which is amidships to starboard. The VIP also has 540 square feet of space, much the same size as the owners’ stateroom on the deck above. There’s a dressing area, including walk-in closets, and an Eames lounger and ottoman, as well as a desk. The double berth faces aft.

Another four en suite guest staterooms—two larger doubles, and two smaller convertible twins or doubles with Pullman berths—are accessed from a central lobby on the lower deck. All of the guest staterooms have en suites with light crema d’Orcia marble.

A portside amidships galley on the main deck serves as the crew hub, located near a main pantry and crew stairs to an upper-deck pantry and, ultimately, the wheelhouse, ship’s office and captain’s cabin on the bridge deck. There are six en suite cabins for 10 more crew forward on the lower deck—four with twin bunks, and two singles for officers—as well as a crew mess and crew galley. The latter area has a staircase up to a tender garage forward beneath the foredeck, as well as stairs down to the “tank deck,” which connects from the bow to the yacht’s cold stores, laundry and engine-room control booth. The engine room has its own air-conditioning system.

Visually, Sanlorenzo’s 57Steel makes quite a statement. With exterior design and space planning by Zuccon International Project in Rome, this model has a nominal volume of 1,050 gross tons. (At 1,021 gross tons, Virtuosity measures a little less.) Forward-raked bridge windows give the 57Steel a touch of go-anywhere styling, but it’s still a modern motoryacht with hybrid hull architecture—a modestly raked stem, square stem root, midlength fluted bow bulb, spray rails and flaring forward, and twin fin stabilizers and rudders. It has been optimized for displacement speeds. Twin 2,000 hp 3512C Caterpillar diesels hooked up to straight gearboxes and shafts deliver the thrust.

The yacht has a reported top speed of around 16.5 knots. Given its capacity for more than 20,000 gallons of fuel, the 57Steel’s range should be around 4,000 nautical miles at 11 knots, making it capable of crossing oceans.

Virtuosity started as a spec build for Sanlorenzo, was sold in May 2021, and was handed over to its owners 26 months later. It was made available immediately for charter via the firm that brokered the yacht’s sale, Fraser Yachts, meaning more than just the owners will be able to enjoy Virtuosity’ s many delights.

Living Larger

The quad-deck 57Steel has more than double the volume of its trideck sibling, the 52Steel. Eight hulls of the 52Steel have been delivered to date, with two more under construction. The first two 57Steel hulls were delivered in 2023. Sanlorenzo announced in September that hulls No. 3 and 4 were sold and under construction.

The 47m/154'2" expedition yacht 'M' was built by Sanlorenzo in Italy at their Viareggio shipyard. Her interior is styled by British designer design house Studio Indigo and she was delivered to her owner in August 2024. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Francesco Paszkowski Design.

M is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. M comfortably cruises at 11 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 15 knots with a range of up to 4,000 nautical miles from her 50,000 litre fuel tanks. Her water tanks store around 8,000 Litres of fresh water. She was built to ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) classification society rules.

Press release, 16 September 2024 – From September 19 to 24, Sanlorenzo returns to Genoa for the 64th Genoa International Boat Show, the first Italian event of the new yachting season. Sanlorenzo will be showcasing nine yachts at the show, with a particular focus on two new models: the SL86A from the Asymmetric line and the SP92 from the Smart Performance line. These two models represent the latest advancements from the Italian yachting brand. Alongside them, a selection of yachts that have defined the brand’s history will be displayed, showcasing the group’s excellence in comfort, sustainability, performance, livability, and connection with the sea.

Discover the Sanlorenzo SP92 & SL86A

Sanlorenzo SL86A Developed in collaboration with Zuccon International Project, which designed its exterior lines and interior for the first unit, the SL86A marks a new evolution of the asymmetric concept. This aims to maximize both internal and external spaces, enhancing usability to offer innovative and optimized living solutions while maintaining a dynamic relationship with the surrounding marine landscape. This is achieved while preserving the elegance and distinctive style of Sanlorenzo.

From an exterior design perspective, the true innovation of the yacht lies in the configuration of the stern, where no visible stairs are present. This minimalist design embodies Sanlorenzo’s asymmetrical revolution: concealing the stairs creates a more seamless layout at the stern, where the introduction of a transparent element ensures full connection between those in the cockpit and people swimming at the rear of the boat, enhancing usability.

Another successful design element is minimizing the vertical connections' impact: eliminating the staircase between the cockpit and the flybridge increases available space, allowing the entire Main Deck to be dedicated to guest enjoyment. This results in a large open-plan layout, where a spacious area at the stern is connected via a portside passage to a unique forward dining area. This additional space, dedicated to life onboard, is unmatched by similar- sized boats.

The layout minimizes visual barriers and highlights the large windows that connect the yacht with the sea from stern to bow. Finally, the SL86A also features expanded and more usable exterior spaces, including two large sunbathing areas, one at the bow and one integrated into the deckhouse.

Sanlorenzo SP92 With the SP92, Sanlorenzo reaffirms its commitment to advancing research in the segment of high-performance and sporty boats. Born from the collaboration with Studio Zuccon for the exterior design and architect Piero Lissoni for the interior design, the SP92 successfully brings the typical design of the range to this new entry-level model. It draws inspiration from minimalism and clean lines, further enhancing the sportiness and balance of the yacht while maintaining its unmatched style and elegance.

From the very first glance, the expansive aft area stands out: a beach area of nearly 45 square meters, customizable with a retractable door that conceals the garage. The main deck is even closer to the water, allowing for a deeper synergy with the sea. The large perimeter glass surfaces around the superstructure highlight the elegance of the interiors, expanding their volume and maximizing the connection with the exterior by breaking down visual barriers. With a completely new approach for a vessel of this kind, the interior spaces are distributed over four levels, featuring solutions that enhance spaciousness and livability while reinforcing the close relationship with the surrounding marine environment. Lastly, the SP92 combines the characteristics of a high-performance yacht with Sanlorenzo's commitment to sustainability.

From the unique hull geometry, which optimizes the resistance coefficient at commonly used speeds, to the design of the structural elements, the photovoltaic system with highly efficient monocrystalline cells, and the choice of furnishings made from composite materials and aeronautical technologies, every component of the yacht has been designed to minimize consumption and reduce environmental impact. As a result, the SP92 consumes about 12-13% less fuel at cruising speed compared to the same yacht built using conventional production methods and traditional materials.

Sanlorenzo: Italian Yacht Building Heritage

Sanlorenzo yachts was founded in the small town of Limite sull’Arno outside of Florence, Italy by Gianfranco Cecchi and Giuliano Pecchia in 1958. The shipyard was a boutique yard for wooden vessels until 1985, whereupon it launched its first fiberglass yacht, the SL57. Shipyard Style, Design & Innovation

Sanlorenzeo yachts are at the forefront of progression and innovation, bringing yachting to a new era with the E-Motion Range of hybrid and diesel-electric yachts. Smaller diesel engines and battery-powered generators propel the hybrid yachts while the diesel-electric yachts use electric motors fed by industrial batteries. These yachts allow for greater fuel efficiency, lower vibrations and the ability to operate at ZEM (Zero Emissions Mode) at night. New interior images of 57m Sanlorenzo superyacht Virtuosity revealed

New interior pictures of the second 57Steel motor yacht Virtuosity have been revealed by Fraser , her central agency for charter.

The 56.5-metre superyacht debuted at the 2023 Monaco Yacht Show and is the second unit in Sanlorenzo 's 57Steel series. The line has proved popular for the Italian yard so far with a total of four units sold and a fifth hull being built on speculation, according to BOATPro . 

The line offers double the interior volume of its predecessor, the 52Steel, while maintaining signature Sanlorenzo features such as the glass-bottomed pool, which measures four metres in length on this model. Transparent panels in the floor send light into the 110 square metre beach club below, which benefits from a trio of fold-out sea terraces that create a liveable waterfront lounge with a TV, sofa set-up and bar complete with fridge and ice-maker.

Directly aft of the beach club is a spa zone, which is home to a Hammam, sauna and gym equipment.

The yacht's exterior is by Zuccon International Project , while interiors come courtesy of Lissoni . The design duo previously paired up on another of Sanlorenzo's projects: the SP110, which was nominated for a Neptune at the 2023 World Superyacht Awards .

Elements of this design can be seen in Virtuosity. The 1,0121 steel-and-aluminium model has the same cool, contemporary interiors with a pared-back theme and architectural touches like the central staircase. 

Brokerage firm Fraser sold the yacht in 2021 and went on to oversee the construction and offer her for private yacht charters . On board highlights include a DJ booth in the bridge, plus an intimate  "cocktail area" on the main deck.

Fraser describes the yacht as a "floating sanctuary" with no shortage of amenities and an accommodation configuration that comprises six cabins for a total of 12 guests. The owner's suite covers 54 square metres and is finished with an en suite, walk-in wardrobe and small study area and also has access to a private foredeck with Jacuzzi dip pool.

Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, Virtuosity can reach a top speed of 16.5 knots with a cruising speed of 13 knots. She has a 10.9-metre beam and complement for a crew of 12.

She charters from €400,000 per week plus expenses.

The modern model range of the Italian shipyard includes the following series:

Da oltre sessant’anni costruire uno yacht Sanlorenzo richiede tempo e passione. Per questo il cantiere può realizzarne solo cinquanta all’anno. La sua mission infatti, è essere il punto di riferimento degli armatori che non accettano compromessi e il luogo dove esplorare l’innovazione attraverso l’esperienza per creare imbarcazioni che resistono al tempo e al mare e che, soprattutto, somo il riflesso della personalità, del gusto e dello stile di vita del loro proprietario. Esempio ne siano le più recenti novità che ampliano il già ricco carnet di Sanlorenzo.

SL86A, realizzato in collaborazione con lo Studio Zuccon, porta il concetto di asimmetria a un livello superiore, sfruttandone al massimo le potenzialità per offrire soluzioni abitative inedite e ottimizzate. Il tutto, senza rinunciare all’eleganza e allo stile del design Sanlorenzo e vincendo la sfida di applicare le asimmetrie in una barca di dimensioni minori rispetto ai modelli precedenti ottenendo un risultato ancora più distintivo nella valorizzazione degli spazi interni ed esterni.

Una soluzione innovativa – che riduce al minimo l’ingombro dei collegamenti verticali – ha permesso di dedicare l’intero Main Deck alla convivialità, con una grande zona giorno pensata come un open space che comprende un ampio salone a poppa e una zona dining a prua. La grande vetrata asimmetrica che si estende da poppa verso prua, poi, crea una connessione costante con il mare. Connessione che si vive appieno anche nella zona a poppa.

Grazie a un design minimal e fortemente innovativo, la barca naviga senza scala a vista, mentre un elemento di trasparenza rafforza la piena immersione nello scenario marino. Gli spazi esterni, inoltre, risultano ampliati e maggiormente fruibili, grazie anche due ampie zone prendisole, una a prua e una integrata nella tuga.

Con SP92, invece, Sanlorenzo consolida la ricerca nel segmento delle barche performanti e sportive, nata con SP110. Realizzato in collaborazione con lo Studio Zuccon per il design esterno e con l’architetto Piero Lissoni, che ne ha curato l’interior design, si avvale delle migliori tecnologie presenti su SP110 e del design tipico della gamma, ispirato al minimalismo e alla purezza delle linee, valorizzando ulteriormente la sportività e l’equilibrio dell’imbarcazione e mantenendo intatti stile, classe e performance.

Gli interni si distribuiscono su quattro livelli, dettaglio inedito per un’imbarcazione di questo genere, e sono caratterizzati da soluzioni che valorizzano l’ampiezza e la vivibilità degli spazi, rafforzando la connessione con l’ambiente marino circostante. Esempio ne siano, le ampie vetrate che mettono in comunicazione l’interno con l’ampia area di poppa, dove si trova una beach area personalizzabile di 45 metri quadrati circa.

In perfetta coerenza con il concetto alla base della linea Smart Performance, SP92 è la perfetta sintesi tra le caratteristiche di uno yacht altamente performante con l’impegno di Sanlorenzo per la sostenibilità e la tutela dell’ambiente.
