Italy Yacht Charter Enquiry

Amanda, Jaco is a beautiful boat. Captain and crew is wonderful. The details of our trip were very similar to the itinerary you outlined with some minor modifications along the way. Our first night was in Ischia. We had dinner on the boat. We left early the next morning after breakfast for Capri. Capri was wonderful and tremendously fun. We hiked the Phoenician Stairs to Anacapri, hiked Mt. Solar, Villa Jovis and enjoyed the shipping now etc. dinner at Auroa one night. We spent two nights there. Upon departure, we had lunch at the lunch spot en route to Positano that you recommended. We spent one night in Positano and had dinner at a great hotel that MK can forward. We spent the night in Amalfi and had dinner on the boat. Next day we embarked for Sorrento. We spent two nights in Sorrento. Had dinner at Don Alfonso which is a truly special place. On our last Saturday we hit Pompeii, and mt. Vesuvius. Great day. We had the boat meet us back in Naples. What are the factors that influence the price of a yacht charter in the Mediterranean?

It’s important to know the different factors that can influence the price of a yacht charter in the Mediterranean region. With all the variables clearly laid out, you will be able to make more informed decisions and play with one variable over the other to adjust your yacht charter to your budget .

The type of yacht you want to charter in the Mediterranean: a yacht is a broad word covering a wide range of budgets

The yacht you are going to charter is the variable that will likely influence the most the total cost of your yacht charter.

The Mediterranean region has a very broad selection of yacht available for rental, and the price range is simply huge: from 700€ a week for the cheapest bareboat rentals up to more than 1,000,000€ a week for the biggest superyachts.

In most cases in the Mediterranean, the bigger the yacht, the higher the price . Longer yachts have more crew to operate them, use more fuel and are generally more high maintenance than the smaller ones. The APA of a yacht rental is directly proportional to its base-fee, so be prepared to have a higher APA with a bigger yacht.

The demand for specific yachts can also significantly increase the price of the yacht. This is especially true for bigger / historical yachts that have their followers, and less the case for bareboat rentals.

The destination (and country) of your Mediterranean yacht charter: a big influence on the final price

Where you are going to sail your yacht has a big influence on the total cost of your charter. It would be a mistake to think of the Mediterranean region as a place where prices are more or less unified.

There are big price differences between Mediterranean countries due to various reasons: 

• Regulations (VAT, taxes…) that influence transactions in general or sailing in particular
• Labour costs : minimum salary can be multiplied by 5 depending on your country around the Mediterranean belt
• Demand : some destinations are in very high demand with very limited offer, some don’t have this issue
• Exclusivity : some parts of the Mediterranean are more luxurious, more private and more “selective” than others, which makes the prices go up

So, even if you spend most of your time onboard your chartered yacht, the rental price of the same boat in different countries can vary quite significantly as moorings, taxes, staff and on-land activities in general won’t necessarily cost the same.

How luxurious you want your yacht charter to be: an important variable for the final price

The base fee of a yacht charter usually only covers the cost of chartering the yacht itself. You need to add the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) on top of it to cover the variable costs.

The APA is directly proportional to your yacht (so usually the bigger the yacht the higher the APA), but also to how luxurious you want your charter to be.

If you want to eat luxurious food and high-end alcohol during your yacht rental, expect to pay a little more than if you go for simplicity.

The season: the price of yacht rentals aren’t stable throughout the year in the Mediterranean

The Mediterranean is a very seasonal region , and the yacht rental market isn’t an exception.

The Summer season is by far the most popular time to discover the Mediterranean area. In consequence, people come from all over the world to travel to the France Riviera, Italy, Greece or the Balearics during that time of the year. Most prices are at their highest during Summer: hotels, plane tickets, but also yacht rentals.

The shoulder season , which is from April to June and September to October, is also a popular choice. The weather is usually pleasant, the crowds on the lower end, and prices are more budget-friendly. A good “budget vs weather” compromise.

Winter in Europe is by far the lowest season in the Mediterranean, and the best one to enjoy the biggest deals if you are not hunting for the hottest temperatures and sunniest weather.

It can therefore be wise to book a lot in advance of a yacht charter in high season if she is usually in demand, as the chances of her being booked at your dates are high.

On the other hand, last minute bookings are also a way to enjoy good deals with the boats that haven’t been booked or that got cancelled. You sacrifice being picky on the boat you rent and on planning in advance your trip, but you might save up a little in return.

What is the minimum price to rent a yacht in the Mediterranean region (yacht base-fee only)?

Now that we have the variables out of the way, here are some of the minimum prices you can expect for yacht charters in the Mediterranean region. The prices below do not include expenses and APA. 

1,200€ / week : the minimum price for bareboat yacht rentals in Mediterranean

If you have the qualifications to sail a boat yourself without a skipper, you can start renting a yacht from 1200€ / week in the Mediterranean region.

At this price, you usually have a simple sailboat for up to 6 passengers, and you are more likely to be in the Eastern regions of the Mediterranean, such as Croatia or Turkey, although you can still find great deals at very similar costs in more expensive countries such as France.

2,500€ / week: the minimum price to rent a yacht with a skipper in the Mediterranean region

If you need an experienced skipper to safely sail your yacht during your charter, the minimum price is around the 2,500€ / week throughout the Mediterranean region.

The price of the skipper can vary significantly depending on the country and the season you are sailing. Some Mediterranean countries may have cheapear labour costs than others, but the demand can influence the price both up and down.

8,000€ / week: the starting price for fully crewed yachts in the Mediterranean

For a luxury yacht with a full crew in the Mediterranean region, the low end price is around the 8,000€ mark per week for sailing yacht and sailing catamarans. 

Above 15,000€ / week , you start to be in luxury yacht charters territory, with longer yachts and/or more staff to add luxury to your experience.

About 20 migrants are believed to be missing after their boat capsized in the mediterranean this week.

ROME (AP) — About 20 migrants are believed to be missing after their boat capsized in the Mediterranean this week, the U.N. refugee agency and the Italian coast guard said Wednesday.

Seven Syrians were rescued and taken to the southern Italian island of Lampedusa, Italian rescuers said. The coast guard said local officials had spotted the sinking boat around 10 miles (16 kilometers) southeast of the island.

The seven survivors were “in critical condition and many have lost their relatives,” Chiara Cardoletti, the UNHCR representative to Italy, said on X.

Survivors said 28 people had left Libya on Sept. 1, the coast guard said in a statement. Twenty-one of them “fell into the sea due to adverse weather conditions,” it added.

Naval units and a coast guard aircraft were searching for those missing.

The central Mediterranean is one of the world’s deadliest migration routes. According to the U.N. migration agency, more than 2,500 migrants died or went missing attempting the crossing last year, and 1,047 have died this year.

21 Migrants Missing at Sea as Boat Capsizes in Rough Seas Off Italy

Seven survivors were rescued from the boat that sank after leaving Libya. A crackdown by Italy has reduced migration, but not the high death rates that come with crossing the Mediterranean.

Twenty-one migrants were missing at sea on Wednesday, according to survivors rescued from a sinking boat about 10 miles from the Italian island of Lampedusa, Italy’s Coast Guard said.

Seven men, identified as Syrian, were rescued by a Coast Guard vessel on Wednesday morning. A video showed the migrants crouching in a small white motorboat, partly submerged, before being carried in pairs by a rubber raft to a waiting Coast Guard vessel.

The migrants told their rescuers that they had left Libya on Sunday on the boat packed with 28 people, including three minors. They said that 21 people had fallen off during the crossing because of “adverse weather conditions,” the Coast Guard said in a statement.

The seven survivors were taken to Lampedusa, one of the principal destinations for migrants crossing the Mediterranean from Africa to Europe on one of the world’s deadliest migration routes.

Last year, more than 212,000 migrants and refugees tried to cross the central Mediterranean Sea from North Africa, according to a report by the United Nations refugee agency and the International Organization for Migration, or I.O.M.

At least 3,105 lost their lives or went missing at sea while attempting to cross to Europe by various Mediterranean routes, according to the report. But it noted that “the real number of dead and missing along these routes is believed to be higher as many incidents go unreported or undetected.”

Since taking power nearly two years ago, Italy’s right wing government has cracked down on illegal immigration, striking deals with Tunisia, renewing agreements with Libya, and toughening laws against traffickers.

The government of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has introduced rules against rescue ships operated by nongovernmental organizations, which Italy has accused of working with human traffickers, forcing them to take migrants to far-off northern ports.

And, stoking controversy, the government is building a center in Albania where migrants will be processed and returned to their home countries if they don’t qualify for asylum.

The government strategies have had an impact , government officials believe . There has been a 62 percent decrease in arrivals to Italy in 2024 — some 40,000 through August, compared to more than 113,000 for the same period in 2023 — according to the I.O.M.

Deaths at sea, however, have not comparably declined. As of Wednesday, nearly 1,100 migrants had gone missing in the central Mediterranean in 2024, according to the I.O.M. , just 25 percent fewer than the same period last year, said Flavio Di Giacomo, a spokesman for the organization in Italy.

The I.O.M. statistic did not include the more than 600 people who drowned off the coast of Greece last year, which Mr. Di Giacomo described as “one of the greatest tragedies in the Mediterranean.”

Mr. Di Giacomo said that another boat had sunk on Wednesday off the eastern coast of Libya, near Tobruk. Of the 32 people on board, 22 had gone missing and one person had drowned, he said.

Chiara Cardoletti, the top official in Italy for the United Nations refugee agency, or UNHCR, posted on X that the survivors of Wednesday’s rescue near Italy had been taken in by a local agency team “and were in critical condition.”

The survivors said that the boat had flipped over because the sea was rough. Many of the survivors said that they had lost relatives on the boat, said Filippo Ungaro, a refugee agency spokesman in Italy, in an interview. “The survivors told us that the boat overturned more than once,” he said.

“Another tragic shipwreck off the coast of Lampedusa,” wrote Nicola Dell’Arciprete, the UNICEF country coordinator for Italy, on X .

The Coast Guard said they had deployed ships and an airplane to search for any possible survivors.

Tipping Is Not Mandatory

In a luxurious destination like Monaco, you would think that tipping would be not only compulsory but at an all-time high rate. But in reality, tipping isn’t mandatory in Monaco. Servers and staff tend to be very relaxed, and in most cases, it will be up to you as to whether or not you would like to leave a tip . Remember that hotel service (and most service charges) will already be included in your final bill.

Stay Away During The Grand Prix

Be Prepared To Pay A Lot

One of the most important things to know about Monaco is that it’s not the sort of destination you go to if you’re looking to save money. Monaco is expensive to visit .

Most hotels and restaurants will charge much more than one is probably used to pay, even by European standards. There are free things to do in the country, but in general, one should be prepared for some large bills.

It’s Really Small But Heavily Populated

Before traveling to Monaco, it’s a good idea to become familiar with how big the country actually is: Only two square kilometers. To put it into perspective, there is only one country in the whole world that is smaller than Monaco, and that’s Vatican City which is contained within Rome .

Even though Monaco is super small, it is the world’s most densely populated country, with a total population size of around 37,800. Add on the flocks of tourists, and it can get crowded. Avoid traveling in the summer months and in May during the Grand Prix if you prefer fewer crowds.

You’ll Be Walking Everywhere

Given that Monaco is such a small country, it should come as no surprise that the most common way to get around is to walk . This isn’t as easy as it sounds since the landscape is quite hilly. But still, other than catching the city bus or a boat, it’s often the only option you’ll have. There are taxis, but they tend to charge incredibly steep prices.

The city bus can be a cost-effective way of getting around that doesn’t challenge your body so much. But if the weather permits, walking will allow people to properly absorb the wonderful surrounding scenery.

Visit During The Warmer Months

Although you might want to stay away between June and August if you don’t like crowds, the warmer months are the best time to visit Monaco. That’s why it’s so popular, then! And with its beaches and resorts, Monaco does tend to be a typical summer vacation. If you travel to Monaco in the winter, be prepared for cold temperatures.

To avoid the cold and crowds, the best option is to visit in early May before the Grand Prix or in September and October, when the weather is still balmy.

There’s A Dress Code

Monaco is in the Mediterranean, so you’ll find that many locals have that relaxed Mediterranean attitude toward life. But at the same time, it’s one of the most prestigious places you can visit. According to Going Somewhere Soon , there is a dress code to abide by. The main thing to remember is that you can’t wear beach clothes around the town, even if you’ve just visited the beach.

Classier establishments will also have specific rules about what one can wear, so it’s always better to check before you go. Generally, make sure you’re not barefoot and are at least wearing a shirt! It's good to remember that other countries also have strict dressing codes .

Understand That Monaco Is Not France

A lot of travelers get confused between Monaco and France. It’s easy to assume that Monaco is just another region of France, considering the close proximity between France and Monaco. There’s also the fact that the majority of people speak French. But if you want to leave the best impression on the locals, don’t make the mistake of saying (out loud) that Monaco is part of France.

Monaco is an entirely separate country. It has its own language (although French is widely spoken), and locals may be a little miffed to hear that you don’t recognize their country as an individual territory.

Bring Your ID With You

As a rule of thumb, bring your identification with you when you’re out and about in Monaco. This can be a driver’s license or a passport. The main reason for this is that different rules apply to locals and foreigners in Monaco. The most well-known is that foreigners are allowed to gamble, but locals aren’t . They aren’t even allowed to set foot in the casinos.

So if travelers can’t produce an ID to show that they’re not a local, they probably won’t be allowed in the casino. And for many people, this is the major highlight of traveling to Monaco!

Monaco On A Budget Isn't Impossible

Admittedly, Monaco isn't the easiest place to be thrifty with money. That said, it's not impossible to go to Monaco on a reasonable budget. Visitors who can look past the grandeur of luxury five-star hotels will find that there are budget hotels and even hostels scattered around the city-state.

Because Monaco is walkable, commuting costs are next to none. Plus, Monaco may have extravagant restaurants that dish out flavors of the rich, but it also has plenty of food markets that serve freshly caught seafood on the cheap every day of the week.

Driving Isn't The Best Idea

Tempted to take your own sports car out for a spin after watching Lamborghinis and Ferraris zip away on the streets of Monaco? Think again! Although luxury sports cars are easily available for rent -- as are other non-sports cars -- driving in Monaco is not as flashy as it may seem.

The small city-state can easily get congested, and its many tunnels and overpasses can make driving in Monaco an extremely tight and anxiety-inducing experience.

Street parking is practically non-existent, so unless you plan to center your Monaco adventures exclusively around places that offer valet parking, driving is probably not the best idea.

There's Much To Do Besides Gamble In The Casinos

Casinos may be the highlight of Monaco, but it's not the only thing that's worth checking out. Monaco is also the land of museums, breezy gardens, and marvelous architecture. The Oceanographic Museum, for example, is over 100 years old and has one of the world's oldest aquariums overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

Nearly a fifth of Monaco is occupied by lush gardens and parks. Plus, the cathedrals and chapels of Monaco are proof that opulent architecture isn't just limited to luxury hotels; it's everywhere in Monaco.

Can't Find A Flight To Monaco? That's Because There Is No Airport

Monaco is one of only five countries in the world to not have an airport which makes sense considering how small the city-state is. So how exactly do you get to Monaco, then? The closest airport to Monaco is the Nice Côte d'Azur Airport in France, some thirty-odd kilometers away.

From there, visitors have several options. For those who can afford it, helicopter services regularly run between the Nice airport and Monaco, connecting the two in under 10 minutes. As for the rest of the common folk, trains, buses, boats, and rented cars are the way to go.

The largest Yacht Club in the fleet is on MSC World Europa, offering 152 suites. The second-largest is found on the line's two Seaside EVO Class ships, MSC Seashore and MSC Seascape, which each have 131 suites.

MSC Yacht Club cabins

All accommodations in the Yacht Club are labeled as suites, even though they comprise some standard cabin types. The specific stateroom types offered will vary by ship, but in general, they range from windowless interior cabins and deluxe balcony rooms to Executive and Royal Suites with more space, walk-in closets and bathrooms with both showers and bathtubs.

New to the fleet with the line's World Class are 1,600-square-foot Owner Suites, which include multi-room layouts, walk-in closets, bathtubs and balconies, each with a whirlpool and alfresco dining area.

Also new are Duplex Suites, offering two decks of space, with the bedroom and bathroom upstairs and a dining area, living room and guest bath downstairs. These also include two private sun decks with loungers, one of which boasts a whirlpool.

As you might expect, the cost to stay in the Yacht Club depends on several factors, including cabin type, the length of the sailing and where you're going and when. However, in line with the rest of the brand's pricing, a stay in the Yacht Club is an excellent value when you compare it to stays in other lines' dedicated suite areas or to luxury cruise prices.

I priced out several sailings departing over the next two years on some of the line's newest and largest ships. This is what was available at press time. (Note: MSC Cruises' website will only allow me to choose a general Yacht Club designation when booking. That means a guaranteed suite within the Yacht Club, but you won't know what type it is until closer to sailing.)

Video shows moments before superyacht went down in storm off Sicily

Newly released video captures a luxury superyacht being battered by a violent storm before it suddenly sank off Sicily with 22 people aboard Monday.

The grainy images obtained by NBC News and other outlets were recorded on closed-circuit television not far from where the Bayesian was anchored, about a half-mile from the port of Porticello, on Sicily’s northern coast .

The yacht's 250-foot mast, illuminated with lights and lashed by the storm, appears to bend to one side before it finally disappears and is replaced by darkness.

The speed with which a yacht built to handle the roughest seas capsized stunned maritime experts.  

“I can’t remember the last time I read about a vessel going down quickly like that, you know, completely capsizing and going down that quickly, a vessel of that nature, a yacht of that size,” said Stephen Richter of SAR Marine Consulting.

British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and five of the 22 other people who were aboard the 184-foot vessel remain unaccounted for and are believed to be trapped in the Bayesian’s hull, nearly 170 feet underwater.

Officials confirmed Monday that at least one person, the ship’s cook, had died.  

Superyachts like the Bayesian, which had been available for charters at a rate of $215,000 a week, are designed to stay afloat even as they are taking on water to give the people aboard a chance to escape, Richter said. 

“Boats of this size, they’re taking passengers on an excursion or a holiday,” Richter said. “They are not going to put them in situations where it may be dangerous or it may be uncomfortable, so this storm that popped up was obviously an anomaly. These vessels that carry passengers, they’re typically very well-maintained, very well-appointed.”

Built by Italian shipbuilder Perini Navi in 2008, the U.K.-registered Bayesian could carry 12 guests and a crew of up to 10, according to online specialist yacht sites. Its nearly 250-foot mast is the tallest aluminum sailing mast in the world, according to CharterWorld Luxury Yacht Charters. 

On Tuesday, Italian rescue workers resumed the search for Lynch and the five other passengers still missing: Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter, Hannah; Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife; and Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife.

“The fear is that the bodies got trapped inside the vessel,” Salvatore Cocina, the head of civil protection in Sicily, told Reuters .

The Bayesian is owned by a firm linked to Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, who was one of the 15 people rescued Monday after it capsized.

“It’s extremely rare for a boat of this size to sink,” Richter said.

What’s not rare is the kind of storm that sank it , said Simon Boxall, senior lecturer in oceanography at Britain’s University of Southampton.

“People assume the Mediterranean is this rather calm and passive place that never gets storms and always blue skies,” Boxall said. “In fact, you get some quite horrendous storms that are not uncommon at this time of year.”

The president of Italy’s meteorological society has said Monday’s violent storm may have involved a waterspout, essentially a tornado over water, or a downburst, which occurs more frequently but doesn’t involve the rotation of the air.

Luca Mercalli, president of the Italian Meteorology Society, also said recent temperatures may have been a factor. 

“The sea surface temperature around Sicily was around 30 degrees Celsius [86 Fahrenheit], which is almost 3 degrees more than normal,” Mercalli told Reuters. “This creates an enormous source of energy that contributes to these storms.”

The Mediterranean sailing vacation was designed to be a celebration for Lynch, who two months ago was acquitted by a San Francisco jury of fraud charges stemming from the 2011 sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion.

Prosecutors alleged that Lynch, dubbed “Britain’s Bill Gates,” and Autonomy’s vice president for finance, Stephen Chamberlain, had padded the firm’s finances ahead of the sale. Lynch’s lawyers argued that HP was so eager to acquire Autonomy that it failed to adequately check the books .

Lynch had taken Morvill, who was one of his defense attorneys, on the luxury trip. 

Chamberlain was not on the Bayesian.

In what appears to be a tragic coincidence, a car struck and killed Chamberlain on Saturday as he was jogging in a village about 68 miles north of London, local police said.

“Steve fought successfully to clear his good name at trial earlier this year, and his good name now lives on through his wonderful family,” Chamberlain’s lawyer, Gary Lincenberg, said in a statement .

It feels like every time we open up Instagram from June through Labor Day, someone else is posting a carousel of images with the hashtag #Eurosummer. Low-lit wine bars, melting cones of gelato, dramatic cliff beaches, heaping plates of pasta, afternoons spent jumping off a boat. Like clockwork, we expect to see the same few destinations in the geotags on these posts (Positano! St. Tropez! Mykonos!).

Don't get me wrong, the jet set certainly delivered on this front all the same, but this summer, there was one Mediterranean island where it seemed like every single person in our orbit (from close friends to runway models and A-list celebrities) was touching down—and no, it wasn't on the usual circuit in Italy, France, or even Greece. I'm talking about Mallorca, the largest of Spain's Balearic islands and the destination where it seemed like every cool person was vacationing.

And we do mean everyone. Emily Ratjkowski has gone every summer since she was 11 years old. The Jenner sisters documented a stylish family trip there this past June. And Italian model Vittoria Ceretti made headlines when she and rumored boyfriend Leonardo DiCaprio were spotted on a yacht just off its rocky shores. Mallorca has always been somewhat of a hot spot (for one, it happens to be the island in Love Island UK ), but it seemed to jump to new heights this year with even more celebrity buzz.

With that, we're taking the opportunity to curate our ultimate guide to the island, including everything from the fashion-person-adored boutique hotel that's probably already on your Pinterest board to the stunning cove beaches where you'll find the most intense turquoise-blue water.

To uncover the best places to stay, dine, drink, shop, and swim in Mallorca, we recruited a handful of insiders from the fashion and travel worlds who know the island best. Following annual pilgrimages to the Balearic Islands, Australian designer Lucy Folk is currently based in Mallorca where she's taken on a residency at the buzzy boutique Hotel Corazón. The jewelry and clothing from her eponymous line will be on offer there throughout the summer.

Fora CEO and Co-Founder Henley Vazquez has been coming to the island for over 15 years, returning both for work and family trips, for its idyllic combination of mountains and beaches. In fact, she fittingly describes it as the "Santa Barbara of Europe."

Alicia Gutiérrez , a model and journalist who was born and raised in the capital, Palma, has always called Mallorca home. Though she moved to Madrid for university and is currently based in NYC, she still spends every summer here.

Who What Wear UK's very own Managing Editor Poppy Nash is also a wealth of Mallorcan knowledge as she has gone every year since she was a baby and has stayed all over the island.

WWW Travels Tip: The island isn't small and there's a lot to see all over the map. The move is to rent a car, but Fora advisor Claudia Riegelhaupt says to avoid renting from the airport and instead take a transfer to your hotel and have your rental car delivered to you there.

Where to Stay in Mallorca

"My top recommendation is undoubtedly Hotel Corazón ," Gutiérrez proclaims. And she's not alone. The Vogue -recommended boutique hotel has been a buzzy destination since its inception by British fashion photographer Kate Bellm and artist Edgar Lopez in 2023. Nestled in the Tramuntana mountains halfway between the towns of Deià and Sollér, it attracts those looking to connect with nature and the island's most bohemian side. Instead of modern-day features like in-room TV, here you'll find amenities like artist workshops, sound healing, and guided hikes to explore the surrounding areas. The 15-room property may be intimate in size, but owners and artists themselves Bellm and Lopez have aimed to create a sense of community with Corazón as much as they have a hotel.

"I can personally attest that [Bellm's] priority was to create a space where artists could both enjoy and feel inspired," says Gutiérrez. "She has exceeded all expectations. Each of the 15 rooms at the hotel is custom-made by local artisans using materials from the island." Indeed, Bellm explains that the rooms are designed and furnished so that guests feel as if they're staying at a friend's house, not just any hotel. The on-site boutique is equally as inspired, from hand-painted ashtrays and plates by Lopez to chic snorkels, the most luxurious intellect repellent, Bellm's books, Corazon Farm tinctures, bikinis, and more, describes Folk.

If you’re after some real downtime, Nash says that the hotel/wellness retreat Es Racó d'Artà in the northern part of the island is just a dream. "It’s only a short drive from the airport, but a world away from busy Palma. Situated on a farm, it’s rural but also incredibly luxurious, with a stunning spa, two beautiful pools surrounded by olive trees, and daily meditation and yoga classes." Dotted with wildflowers and even donkeys, Folk insists that you don’t even have to leave the property which she describes as serene and enchanting. "I would recommend a villa with a pool for complete privacy and nudist swims. The meditation room itself is transcendent," she adds.

WWW Travels Tip: Don't be afraid to stay inland. Despite the island's beachy draws, surprisingly few of the hotels are directly on the water—at least, the more unique and stylish ones aren't, informs Riegelhaupt. "Be open to staying off the beach and visiting different beaches during your stay," she suggests.

Recently renovated and reopened by the team behind Andalucia’s Finca Cortesin, Vazquez gushes that Son Net is getting all the rave reviews these days. "It’s set down a small lane in a quiet part of the countryside, easy to explore that part of the island but also perfect for hiding away from the crowds," she muses. "A must."

WWW Travels Tip: Split your time between two different spots—one in the north and one further south— to get a feel for the whole island. If you prefer to stay put, it only takes about an hour to cross from one side to the other and explore from one home base.

Where to Dine in Mallorca

"La Residencia may be known as one of the island’s best hotels (and it is), but even if you’re not staying, come by for a dinner in the magical courtyard at El Olivo ," says Vazquez. "Not far from here is Ca’s Patro March, the waterfront lunch spot made famous by The Night Watchman. It may have popped in popularity a few years ago due to the show, but it’s a classic and one to reserve well ahead of time for long lunches of fresh seafood and chilled wine."

WWW Travels Tip: Don't worry about being late to have lunch or dinner. Gutierrez explains that in Spain, lunch can begin as late as 5 p.m. and dinner as late as 11 p.m., so if you go out to eat on the early end, you'll find more tourists and if you go later, you'll dine alongside the locals.

In the tiny village of Biniaraix, Folk raves about Bar Bodega which she notes has been gaining a cult following for its foodie pop-ups by local chefs, its olive leaf lattes, and its community spirit. "Set in the square, it's full of locals and is great for the family," she says. "Local chefs celebrate their skills throughout the season with alluring menus and it's fast becoming booked out."

Located within the oak forest and almost hidden among wild vegetation between Caimari and the Lluc Monastery is Es Guix , one of Gutiérrez's favorite spots for a romantic dinner. Quality products, good service, and an extensive wine list are all of its highlights, she notes, offered in one of the most beautiful and captivating environments on the island. "Before or after eating you can take a swim in its natural pool with water that comes straight down from the mountain. A special and unforgettable place."

WWW Travels Tip: Nearly everywhere will take card, Nash informs, but it doesn't hurt to have cash for tips (or cans of beer on the beach!).

Where to Shop in Mallorca

As you might imagine for an island most often described as bohemian and rustic, the shopping options highlight its handcrafted traditions and slow-living ethos. One such destination in the town of Deià is the boutique Datura Studio Isla. The brand itself hails from New York and at their Mallorcan outpost you'll find exclusively sustainable high-end and natural fabrics. "One can purchase beautiful garments, shoes, sunglasses, bags. All wonderfully curated and chic," says Folk.

When in Mallorca, it would be a shame not to leave room in your suitcase for some handcrafted Spanish textiles. Each summer that Nash returns to the island, she makes a point to pop into this shop for charming and colorful ceramic souvenirs.

At Gres Gallery, you'll find family-made ceramics by Dora Alzamara Good. According to Folk, these are the ultimate artifact souvenirs. She notes that luckily they ship everywhere, which is the ideal scenario for over-packers like her (felt). It's not all ceramic pots and objects, though. Interesting jewelry and furniture sit alongside the ceramics, she says, and advises you to make sure you ring ahead before a visit.

Where to Swim in Mallorca

"One of my favorite beaches to visit in Mallorca is Sa Calobra," Who What Wear assistant shopping editor Ana Escalante tells me. "It feels like another world, nestled in between two rocky cliffs on the north shore of the island. The best way to access it is by cycling or arriving by boat, meaning it's not as congested as other scenic spots in peak summer. Whenever my family and I head to Mallorca, it's one of the spots I look forward to visiting the most. Plus, it certainly helps that it's Jenner sister–approved."

WWW Travels Tip: If you’re staying in self-catered accommodation and want to do something like rent a boat, make friends with the local hotel and enquire there, advises Nash. If you can, it's 100% worth renting a boat for the day to go swimming and travel between secret beaches, she insists.

Crystal-clear water isn't hard to find here as most of the beaches boast some of the most intensely turquoise hues in all of the Mediterranean. Still, Nash adores Cala Llombards for its views. "Pretty but tiny" is how she describes the cove and suggests getting there early for a quiet swim.

Mallorca has no shortage of perfectly picturesque beaches to post up at for the day, although the majority of them are clustered on the southern end of the island, including the glimmering aquamarine cove at Cala d'Or.
