Wondering what to wear to a vintage Yacht rock party that screams the 70s and 80s vibes?
You have come to the right place as I’m gonna share all key elements in yacht rock party attire!
First thing first, what EXACTLY is yacht rock? Is that different from the regular yacht party attire?
Broadly speaking, yacht rock is a type of popular music genre in the mid-1979s and ’80s.
It blends soft rock, smooth jazz, and blues with southern yachty vibes that are as refreshing as it’s cozy and chill to people.
In the outfit sense, think of the nautical sailing looks with a dash of good 70s and 80s vintage vibes together with some playful and funky elements.
Ahead, I’ve gathered 16 real-life yacht rock-themed party outfit ideas from Instagram along with some pro tips.
Ready? Get inspired!
If you are looking for a failproof look for your coming yacht rock party, embracing the nautical theme always works wonders.
That said, think white, red, and blue for the classic color palette and corporate it with the sailor stripe details or a small navy anchor print.
Trust me, patterns x patterns in one look can never be too over the top for a wild yacht rock party time!
It’s time to get out of your comfort zone!
Trust me, there’s definitely NOT ENOUGH content for vintage fashion these days
If you are the retro girlies, there’s one thing for sure – you have impeccable taste ❤️
If you find this recommendation useful – please kindly share and pin some of the shoes so more vintage girls like you can enjoy the info!
Some of you may worry the horizontal stripes will make them look bigger.
Well, not the case anymore when you pick the flattering design!
In case you wonder, I love this fitted off-shoulder striped top from Amazon.
As a girl with chubby cheeks, the off-shoulder neckline just elongates my neck and instantly sheds down the boldness of the print like magic.
The best part? The fabric type is 95% cotton and 5% spandex so it’s super stretchy and curve-flattering.
Together with the high-waist jean shorts and nice pumps, you’re bound to feel the fanciest and most feminine.
Check out this gorgeous piece here!
For the lazy girls who want to look party-ready with minimal effort, I’d say throw on a captain hat to nail the look.
But really, it’s the core element of the yacht rock look of all time!
If you don’t want to look too costumey, pair up the yacht rock look with a cute summer dress and espadrilles wedge just looks equally instagrammable.
Again, to blend in with the crowd, think of bright fun hues instead of the classy neutral nude or dark shades.
This beautiful lady just demonstrates this hip, headscarf-wearing chic look in the best possible way.
Whether you are going to this yacht rock party or a tropical vacation, this styling just looks irresistibly carefree and tasteful.
To add in some retro flare, spice things up with the colorful round sunglasses that scream the perfect vibes.
To look the finest in the late 70s soft rock fashion, what about having fun with the tie-dye co-ord set that was all the rage during the 1980s?
Of course, tie-dye is always in style every few years so you can wear them on a ton of occasions!
To stand out from the yacht rock radio party, those Barbie pink palm tree suits are sure to boost the aesthetic tenfold.
And guess what, to dress like Popeye, get yourself a pipe just such an extra pop of fun!
For the ladies who prefer a lowkey yacht rock party look, this top below is another lovely piece.
The elegant boat-cut neckline and the darling ribbon details just highlight the beauty of the figure and make you look curvier visually.
The big plus?
There’s a rubber lining around the neckline to make sure the top is in place. I must say that’s a rare design for this price range!
According to the Amazon review, you want to order a size down.
When in doubt, Hawaiian shirts will give you the right dose of yachty vibes.
That said, picking the right pattern is key otherwise you will gravitate towards the luau party.
Take the right balance of tropical vibes and introduce more marine elements to the look.
When in doubt, searching “reclaimed vintage-inspired beach shirt” or treasure hunting from a thrift store always helps!
The skirt from Lilly Pulitzer is always so darling – obsessed .
All the navy party costumes are cliché? Well, think again.
This funny captain hat and T-shirt set just breathe sailing and fun into the personal vibe.
Whether you wear this for the Sunday boat party or just randomly throw it on during the weekend, this piece just screams fun in all different ways.
This set sold out quickly. Check out Amazon !
(Continue scrolling for the article!)
When it comes to other essentials, khaki short shorts, and a colorful cami top just give the yacht rock attire a modern mix.
For petite girls, consider pairing up the body-hugging top with wide-leg pants and wedges.
It just contours the body proportion and helps you achieve an effortlessly chic look.
Yes, I’m a born fashionista.
It takes me a long time to find the perfect yacht rock swimsuit and I just can’t be any more proud when I find this gorgeous piece.
A swimsuit with a halter neck is a big plus for me as it just comes in extra support and gives your chest the right boast.
With the horizontal stripe on the chest area, the voluminous effect is sure to impress.
As a pear-shaped girl, this swimsuit just flatters my figure in every single way.
If you are bored with the classic white and blue captain hat, this one with the leaf print just complements your nautical-themed party in the most distinctive way.
Those gold embroidered badges on the front just scream “I’ve got a style and I KNOW it”.
Be the chicest captain in the house!
This is so random… BUT
hey ladies, why not quickly do an affirmation and feel instantly better?
This new year, I’m trying not only to share fashion tips but come up with ways to instill body positivity in all women who are reading my articles – aka YOU !
Instead of just reading it, say it loud or murmur the quotes (if you are in public) to maximize the effect.
Ready? Here we go.
I love my body. She is my forever home and sanctuary.
Sassy isn’t a shape, it’s an attitude.
Work out because I love my body – not because I hate it.
I can love myself and change my body at the same time. No guilt about that.
It is completely normal to have tummy rolls. I come to realize that social media isn’t showing the reality… at all.
My happiest moments in life had nothing to do with the way my body looked.
I don’t have to be pretty like her, I can be pretty like …ME.
I AM perfect imperfection.
What are your thoughts on that? I hope that makes you feel better (as you deserved).
Please help me pass the body positivity message in your community. #womenhelpwomen
Alright, now keep on reading!
Sometimes, having fun is as simple as dressing up and striking a pose with your besties together!
Don’t know about you but I’m the happiest when floating in the sea. That’s for sure!
To show your love towards the yacht rock style in parties and everyday life, a statement “Prestige worldwide boats & hoes” tee is such a lovely choice.
These days, people love mixing classic and casual pieces together.
To jazz up the T-shirt look, consider adding in the blue blazer, white pants, and loafers to finish up the set.
Last but not least, here’s my favorite look.
A captain hat with a striped cut-out jumpsuit that looks as simple as it looks hot and sassy.
To bring this look to the good old 70s, slip in the red kitten heels just add an unexpected twist to the get-up.
TIME FOR GLAM SIS.
If you are reading till this point, I’m sure you are the fashion girlies. If yes, check out my newly set-up (Like literally this June) insta @hannahnfashion for more <3 See you there pretty ladies!

Yacht rock outfits, yacht rock outfits 101.
Whether you just discovered the art of smooth or been digging smooth soft rock for a while now, the subject of Yacht Rock Outfits is on your mind. Let me just say, for those about to dock, we salute you. There is an unmistakable moment when Yacht Rock is revealed to you. For me, it happened at a fancy industry party in LA. This fab girl came up and mic dropped it so smoothly to my then 80’s band, Neon Nation , saying “you guys play any yacht rock”? Holy crap, I pretty much spit out my drink and fell to the floor wondering what I was in for.
“You walked in to the party, like you were walking onto a yacht.”
The rest is history and I’m now well into 7 years of playing keyboards in a nationally successful yacht rock band, Yachty by Nature . No doubt, I’m living that dream and it goes without saying, I’m deep in the yacht myself. With weekly yacht party after monthly yacht wedding and more, I’m becoming a Yacht Attire expert in thought and practice and already guiding the band and others in this area of fashion.
Truly, if you get the clothing right, enough people with that common goal, just add yacht music and the fun ensues. Truth be told, I’ve watched as a room full of punk rockers that committed to the groovy, eclectic yacht rock dress code transformed like you wouldn’t believe. They turned a simple celebration with a yacht rock band into a full scale 1978 throwback LOVE FEST and the clothes were off the hook. The energy, the vibe, the clothes, the music became something so magical all its own. Build the yacht and they will sail to it.
So, next time you are having a yacht party or watching your favorite yacht rock band indulge yourself with an epic outfit that will make all it happen. It’s not just the music, the band, the vibe, the look, the energy. It’s the sum of its parts and those smooth outfits have the mighty power to transfix your situation.
Yep, you guessed it, the fastest coronation to yacht rock royalty is the Captain’s Hat. Buy one, make one, bedazzle one or borrow one. In fact, the sky is the limit here so let your creativity reign if you are gonna go for it. But, just get one somehow, some way and you are on the yacht. In fact, Broner makes a very comfortable, quality, straightforward and good looking hat that fits well. Additionally, it avoids the cheap fit and look of those basic hats on Amazon. Do yourself a favor, get a hat or dig deep in the vault and find a classic, vintage, or authentic captain’s hat online. Additionally, we’ve seen some pretty cool and unique creations out there, but for simplicity, fit, and value, Broner is the answer. Lastly, remember what Hefner did for the captains hat!
No matter what color, stripes will be the 2nd easiest way to begin your yacht fashion transformation. Put on a red and white striped shirt (or blue or black mainly) and you’ll be sailing in no time. In fact, stripes are probably the #1 most sighted outfit at a yacht rock party. Just know that it’s only the start. When you accessorize over the stripes with a complementary pant color or scarf, ascot, belt, and obviously the captain’s hat or more, you’ve earned your captain’s bars quicker than you can say Ship Shape! Don’t forget to keep it simple, too much or conflicting stripes will sink that ship just as fast.
Gettin’ Yachty @ Costello’s in Mission Viejo
Due to the strong connection between the silly, the goofy, the fun and the yacht party, going retro will set a course for adventure. Call it the Ron Burgundy effect or just throwing back to the 1977 duds they wore on Midnight Special , this look is uber sexy and may attract the opposite sex faster than any other yacht look. In fact, you don’t have to look too far to find polyester or denim clad jean meat at many yacht rock concerts. Additionally, the fake mustache works wonders whether you go 70’s vintage or any different yachty outfit. More importantly, get bonus points on your yacht rock outfits if you can get the feathered hair going! Polyester, print shirts, and for the ladies, buy that disco dress and some fabulous glasses and you’re ready to yacht!
Think Caddyshack, Marina del Rey, golfing, the harbor, and tennis. Moreso, put a tennis sweater over that polo or even better go up the ladder and put on that navy blue blazer with an ascot and some yellow glasses. Actually, that’s the calling card for us in Yachty by Nature! Pretend that you’re christening the Flying Wasp or dropping anchor with Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack and you’ll be flying indeed. Or even better, watch Caddyshack to get in the mood for your party and let inspiration take hold…and even a few classic movie lines. In fact, if you look around the golf club or yacht club scenes, your creativity is sparked immediately. The outfits jump right off the screen and wreak of Yacht Club greatness. Speaking of movies, we’ve even seen a die hard Yachty arrive in the Goldie Hawn outfit from the movie Overboard. Keep your yacht rock outfits classy San Diaaaaaago!
Lastly, this category is a catch all for everything nautical, yachty, and seaworthy. Use your imagination or stick to the basics. You can don the captain’s outfit with shoulder bars easily for the Love Boat vibe. Or, you can just look like Charlie’s Angels coming off a yacht in 1978. Literally any type of ocean, beach, seaside, or otherwise yachty type of clothing will do. The scarf around the neck, the boat shorts and the Nantucket red pants and plaid shirt all qualify as supremely yachty fashion. When in doubt, check yourself by asking, “would I wear this outfit in the summer in Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard?” Most importantly, if the answer is yes, you are yacht rock camera ready. In fact, let’s not forget the boat shoes, deck shoes, or Sperry Top Siders all together.
Never forget that there’s really no authority on this subject so you can always just go for it. Sometimes, the more uniform, standard, and strict we get on the yacht, the more mundane we become. Therefore, don’t be afraid to dive into the vanity t-shirt, go stripes and ascot, and generally mix it up. There are no hard and fast rules behind the Yacht Rock outfit, just your creativity and passion for the music. From experience, we’ll go captain’s outfit one day and crazy boat shirt the next. Ultimately, we’ve seen it all from the stage and relish the moments when people go wild with it. In fact, there’s probably even a yacht rock adjacent area for the Pirate Party as well. Captain Crunch sightings aside, those parties can really bring together the nauti, yachty, knotty by nature and then some. In the end, go for it and see what happens. It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eyepatch. Honestly, it’s all about the fun so get Kraken!!!
As always, let the vibe be your guide. Thus, for your next yacht rock themed party, concert, or just a Yachty night on the town, get your ensemble going. Whether you are new to the yacht or an old deck hand, that outfit will crank up the experience. So, commit to making that statement with your yacht clothing or up your game and improve on the garb you already have. As we well know, you can never have enough options to mix it up for a fun night with Yachty by Nature or some other occasion.
Happy to be your guide here. Feel free to comment and add some great ideas on this post or on social media. #yachtrock #yachtrockoutfits #yachtybynature #yachtattire #yachtrockfashion
Thanks for giving props to Tiki Caliente! I would like to point out that the most proper Hawaiian shirt to wear to a Yacht Rock concert is one that would have been for sale between 1978 and 1983! Think to yourself, would Magnum PI or Pablo Cruise wear this? And if so, bring it on! Most Magnum PI kind of Hawaiian shirts go great with a white jacket and white shorts. Vintage late ‘70s and early ‘80’s Hawaiian shirts can be found Online in Etsy yacht rock shops, and on eBay. Not expensive, and so ”vintage smooth”. Look like a pro, and be “era appropriate”. Girls can find vintage 70’s nautical dresses on Etsy, too!
THIS is everything!!! I love it Carl!!!
Ahoy Jenny! THanks so much for the kind compliment 🙂 As you know, we’re super inspired and love switching up the outfits, attire, clothing, and costumes. Yacht Rock rules!
Awesome show this past weekend at Circa Caliente glad the rain stopped so the show could go on.

British model Elizabeth Hurley recently spent some time on board the 27.33m Private GG . She was seen cruising the coast of Greece on board the Wally yacht, even taking to the water with the yacht's seabob. Hurley is not the only celebrity who has been spotted on Private GG , however. In June 2018, actress Gwyneth Paltrow also chartered the yacht in Capri . She was seen on board together with Valentino Garavani, founder of fashion house Valentino.

Last week, Victoria's Secret angel Sara Sampaio was spotted in Capri, Italy on board 101.5 metre Feadship Symphony . The supermodel was joined by her friend Juliana Herz and boyfriend Oliver Ripley, a British hotelier who she's been dating since 2015.
Sara posted a number of pictures to her Instagram including one of Symphony's iconic aft pool.

Australian model Shanina Shaik (far left) revelled in a little winter sunshine on board a yacht in Sydney in February 2019. Shaik was joined on board by a group of friends including model agent Annie Kelly, fellow model Jesinta Franklin, her husband Buddy Franklin and former AFL star Tom Derickx. The group spent the day cruising around Sydney harbour as guests of Dior Parfums and taking plenty of suitably chic snaps.
Shaik, however, is no stranger to life on board and was also spotted at sea during a break in LA in October 2017. Shaik was joined on the waves by fellow models Daniela Braga and Nadine Leopold for the weekend getaway where the girls enjoyed some unseasonal sunshine with Shaik captioning her post "It’s 105°F in LA #bikiniinfall".

American model Olivia Culpo has been spotted on numerous luxury yachting vacations during the summer of 2018. She was first spotted on board in Montenegro in early June, where she was joined by friends Nabilla Benattia and Draya Michele, and took in many of this popular yachting destination's beautiful sights. Having gained a taste for the yachting lifestyle, Culpo was once again seen on board in late June, choosing 22.1 metre Sunseeker yacht Gambler for a vacation in Ibiza.

Model friends Georgia Fowler (left), Sadie Newman (top right) and Sara Sampaio enjoyed some time off after New York Fashion Week with a trip on board a luxury yacht in the Bahamas in February 2018. While the girls did not disclose the name of their yacht - or their exact location - images of a polished wood exterior suggest they may have chosen a classic yacht for their weekend break. The friends also packed plenty into their short trip, taking spearfishing lessons, scuba diving and, of course, sunbathing.
Sampaio has previously shown her appreciation for the yachtie lifestyle and was spotted enjoying some summer sunshine on board a yacht in the Balearic Islands in August 2017. The Victoria's Secret model was joined by a number of friends for her vacation and the group explored the waters around Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza as well as making good use of the yacht's extensive toy box, which featured stand-up paddleboards, snorkel gear and a floating bathing platform.
Instagram/@izabelgoulart
Former Victoria's Secret Angel Izabel Goulart made the most of some post-New Year time off with a luxury yacht cruise in her home country Brazil in January 2018. In fact, Goulart boarded not one, but two, yachts while on vacation in the Fernando de Noronha area. She first enjoyed a day trip with boyfriend Kevin Trapp, fellow PSG footballer Neymar Jnr and Neymar's girlfriend, actress Bruna Marquezine before hopping aboard a second yacht for some quality time with her mother.
Goulart is no stranger to yacht vacations and was seen on board in Mykonos in September 2017. The model was spotted enjoying the break during some downtime between the Venice Film Festival and international fashion weeks. Goulart was also spotted on a yacht in Ibiza in summer 2016 as well as a luxury yacht charter in Italy in 2015 where she cruised around Porto Cervo in Sardinia. She shared much of the experience on social media - including posting an image of neighbouring superyachts such as the fashionably blue hulled yacht Madame Gu .
Instagram/@alessandraambrosio/@ludidelfino
Former Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio took some time off after the festive season to enjoy a winter break in her home country with fellow Brazilian models Ludi Delfino (pictured right), Aline e Duda Deboni and Gisele Coria on board a yacht in Costa Esmeralda. Located in northeastern Brazil, the friends cruised the coastline at Praia Brava or, as Delfino described it, 'Brazilian Saint Tropez'.
In July 2017 Ambrosio was spotted on a luxury yacht in Mykonos. A few weeks earlier she had been seen relaxing on a sailing yacht in Ibiza and on board in Brazil in spring 2017. She also took a yachting vacation in the Bahamas in December 2016 and stayed on board 86 metre Feadship Ecstasea in St Tropez in July 2016. The model was joined by her fiance Jamie Mazur and their two children for the French Riviera cruise and the group made good use of the facilities on board this family-friendly yacht by taking a dip off her huge swim platform and trying out her Jet Skis.
Instagram/@josephineskriver/@jastookes
Victoria's Secret models Josephine Skriver and Jasmine Tookes sailed off the beaten track in January 2018 by taking a trip to Antarctica . The pair headed out on a rugged explorer vessel (picture background left) with their boyfriends Alexander DeLeon and Juan David Borrero and, along with taking in the stunning scenery and local wildlife, showed off their adventurous sides by braving the cold and snow in swimsuits. Truly getting into the spirit of the trip, Skriver even posted an image of herself in her cabin reading Shackleton's Way: Leadership Lessons from the Great Antarctic Explorer .
However, this was not Skriver's first time on board. In August 2016 she joined fellow Danish model and TV presenter Caroline Fleming on 46.5 metre CMB Yachts Orient Star in Santorini, Greece. While Skriver only enjoyed the luxury yacht for a day, Fleming and her family indulged in an extended vacation on board the vessel enjoying her gorgeous interior, gourmet food and extensive toy box.
Instagram/@vitasidorkina
Victoria's Secret model Vita Sidorkina saw in the New Year in style on board a yacht in Paradise Island, Bahamas in December 2017/January 2018. Although Sidorkina did not confirm which yacht she chose for the vacation, it was clear she was in good company, with a second luxury yacht being snapped in the background of a sunset picture she shared on social media.
However, this was far from Sidorkina's first on board adventure. Following her wedding to Italian property magnate Valerio Morabito in Ravello in late July, the couple were spotted enjoying a lavish superyacht honeymoon on the Italian Riviera in August 2017 while in July 2016 Sidorkina took some time off from shooting to relax on board a luxury yacht in Cat Cay Island, Bahamas. Sidorkina shared plenty of snaps from this stunning tropical destination which was, in fact, her second superyacht vacation of the summer. In June 2016 the model spent time cruising around Capri and the Amalfi Coast on Perini Navi sailing yacht Ellen as well as taking her pet labrador on board a superyacht in Miami in May. She also spent time on luxury yachts in Sydney, Florida, Ibiza and Greece in 2015.
Rumors suggest some women are paid to play..
Written on Jan 11, 2022
It’s easy to be envious when seeing the Instagram photos of young, carefree celebrity women seemingly having the time of their lives on yachts floating in exotic waters and in the VIP sections of the most exclusive clubs.
However, rumor has it there is much more than meets the eye when it comes to these ‘yacht girls’ and their extravagant lifestyles.
According to Urban Dictionary , a yacht girl is “an attractive young woman who finds ways to get access to luxurious surroundings by being available to wealthy men.”
For example, you may follow a woman or two on Instagram who always seems to be partying or vacationing somewhere expensive (notably without ever showing who she’s actually with). This is a person you could potentially describe as being a yacht girl.
And it’s not just those Instagram models and wannabe stars that are considered yacht girls. As you work up the wealth chain, you may be surprised to recognize some celebrity names synonymous with yachting.

In Hollywood, the term yacht girl essentially means a woman who works as an escort for high-end clientele , not just on yachts but for any social event.
While the practice has only somewhat recently gained mainstream notoriety, if you think back on the many tabloid photos of models and actresses on yachts from years past, it appears to be something that's gone on in Hollywood “for 60 years,” according to Elie Nahas, who ran a Beirut-based modeling agency before being arrested on charges of running a prostitution ring in 2007.
In 2013, "The Hollywood Reporter" ran a feature describing this so-called yachting during the Cannes Film Festival.
“Every year during the festival there are 30 or 40 luxury yachts in the bay at Cannes, and every boat belongs to a very rich person. Every boat has about 10 girls on it; they are usually models, and they are usually nude or half nude,” Nahas told THR.
At the end of the night, each woman would receive a “gift,” a generous amount of money that the client would put in an envelope for her.
And while many of these women were self-proclaimed local prostitutes and escorts, the Cannes Film Festival is, of course, known for its celebrity attendees — and it’s rumored that celebrity women trying to fast-track a name for themselves in Hollywood become yacht girls, too.
“Women installed on yachts in Cannes during the film festival are called ‘yacht girls,’ and the line between professional prostitutes and B- or C-list Hollywood actresses and models who accept payment for sex with rich older men is sometimes very blurred, explains one film industry veteran,” Dana Kennedy wrote for THR.

A 2017 blind item (celebrity gossip that doesn’t outwardly name the celebrity) allegedly written by a struggling actress describes being lured by another actress into the world of yachting :
“The actress I was talking to made it sound super easy and that she only had [sex] a few times with guys while yachting and that it was mostly partying and being arm candy,” she writes, explaining that eventually she agreed to try it for $25,000 upfront, but admitting that the experience was less than glamorous.
Blind item readers guessed that Canadian actress Vanessa Lengies wrote the blind item and further surmised that it may be one of the Glee actresses Naya Rivera or Heather Morris that introduced her to yachting. None of these claims have ever been substantiated.
If you believe the rumors, it would seem that yachting is a rite of passage for women hoping to “make it” in Hollywood, and even some celebrities we now consider A-List are thought to be former yacht girls.
In an excerpt from her 2021 memoir , “My Body,” Emily Ratajkowski details being paid $25,000 at the start of her career to go to the Superbowl with now-disgraced Malaysian financier Jho Low, who "‘just liked to have famous men and women around,’” she explains her manager told her at the time.
She writes about attending the star-studded Coachella on someone else’s dime, having drinks paid for at clubs, and attending afterparties with Oscar-winning actors before actually becoming a celebrity herself.
One could infer from this recollection that, in order to be able to tell these stories, Ratajkowski was herself a yacht girl. “My Body” suggests as much, and in it, she subtly gives away the identity of another celebrity woman who yachted alongside her.
Ratajkowski describes watching as Low gave shots to a Victoria’s Secret model. While she doesn’t name drop, Ratajkowski gives just enough information for readers to figure who that model likely was.
“Now she kept her eyes locked on him as he took his shot, throwing her head back dramatically as he did, only to quickly toss the alcohol over her shoulder,” Ratajkowski writes. “When he faced her again, her eyes sparkled and the famous dimples appeared on her cheeks.”
Low has since become a fugitive wanted for allegedly running an international money laundering scheme, and in 2017, Reuters reported that model Miranda Kerr — known for her dimples — was being ordered to return “diamond pendants, earrings and other jewelry worth about $8 million” that Low allegedly gifted her to government agents.
In 2017, Ratajkowski also posted a video on Instagram potentially outing Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber as yacht girls as they danced aboard a yacht during that year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Many people have also accused Meghan Markle of yachting (but then again, what haven't people accused Markle of at this point).
People have pointed to an old photo of Markle on a yacht as proof that she’s a former yacht girl.

Another old blind item also suggested the former actress was available to “rent.”
"If you see B actress post scantily clad photos of themselves on Social Media, this is often a Comm to [them] that this person is available to ‘rent’ for a weekend of ‘yachting,’” the tweet says, including a photo of Markle in a swimsuit.

Markle’s close friendship pre-Harry with actress Priyanka Chopra has naturally led some to guess that Chopra once yachted as well.
Another actress that faces endless rumors of yachting is Russian actress Irina Shayk , which according to THR, is par for the course as the outlet writes that yachting your way to stardom happens with “disturbing frequency,” particularly when it comes to foreign-born actresses.
According to THR, who claims to know “of at least one now-prominent actress who made her first connections on a Cannes yacht and quickly landed her debut role in a U.S.-shot movie,” such as with Shayk’s 2014 film “Hercules,” it’s “a red flag any time you see a foreign-born actress with no credits suddenly make her way into a U.S.-shot movie.”
These rumors make for good gossip, whether you’re talking about low-level social media influencers or high-profile celebrity actresses.
However, nothing is proven, leaving us to wonder any time we see a photo of women on a yacht.

Kira Plastinina, who will turn 16 next month, likes to tell people that her first ambition was to be a princess. It was, she explains, “when I was little.”
Kira, a tenth-grader at the Anglo-American School in Moscow, became a fashion designer instead. She was in New York in early May for the opening of her first U.S. store, on that hyperactive strip of Broadway between Houston and Prince Streets, and was staying at the Gramercy Park Hotel with her thirtysomething aunt Olga. Both Kira and Olga were wearing sweatshirts Kira had designed: Olga’s had three sparkly stars on the chest; on Kira’s, a large X was filled in with words lifted from the text-message log on her BlackBerry Curve: SWEETIE, it said, and GORGEOUS, and then HE DOESN’T DESERV—. Both were wearing jeans and high-heeled shoes and carrying shiny patent-leather bags. Kira’s father, Sergei Plastinin, the multimillionaire juice-and-dairy king of Eastern Europe, would be coming for the opening itself, but on this afternoon, it was just Kira, Olga, and Kira’s U.S. PR team drinking tea on the roof.
“When I grew up, I stopped wanting to be a princess. I always said I wanted to be a designer,” Kira explains. “Or do something that has to do with fashion.” Her English is perfect, with only the slightest Slavic weight at the ends of sentences and words. She has long pin-straight brown hair and round brown eyes, and says “like” with the same frequency as an American teen. She has a Paris Hilton accent on the word cute, so that it comes out “cyut.” She loves ponies, puppies, and the color pink. She talks a lot about her best friends and says that her social life consists mainly of sleepovers. She’s met Hilton twice—the first time was when Kira’s dad reportedly paid Hilton $2 million to attend one of her shows. “She’s just really sweet,” Kira says. “She wears my clothes, I really like her, she’s fun. We sort of talked about people writing stuff that’s not true. I would get upset, I would be, like, why, it’s not true. But now that I’ve talked to Paris, I feel better.”
What did Paris tell you? I ask her.
“Try not to read it.”
By the time Kira finishes the tenth grade next month, seven more U.S. shops will have opened, which, combined with the 49 Kira Plastinina shops that dot Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan, brings the grand total to 57. Fifty-seven spangly, vinyl, magenta-and-mirror temples to teenybop, clubland fashion in the form of capri-length neon-green lace leggings, white faux -fur shrugs, metallic motorcycle jackets, and endless iterations of the bubble-shape mini. Robyn on the sound system and massive, co-branded Dylan’s Candy Bar pinwheel lollipops for sale, too. “It’s not just like a regular lollipop,” Kira says. “It’s pink. But, like, Kira pink.” She already does shoes and bags and has a signature scent. Kira is the artiste-in-chief, but she definitely has help. “This lady came with a huge box of smells,” she says of the creative process by which her perfume line was created, “and I picked stuff out.” The end result is, she says, “beachy.”
Kira Plastinina was born on June 1, 1992, less than three years after the dismantling of the Berlin Wall and nine months after Boris Yeltsin faced down the August putsch. She arrived in a world flooded with Western ideas, images, and products and a culture desperate to absorb them. One of these ideas was orange juice, because not long after the wall came down, Sergei Plastinin, from a region north of Moscow, tasted OJ from concentrate. He found it delicious and was thrilled to discover that it cost one-sixth the price of regular juice. Russian juice, at that time, was widely available only in three-liter unbranded bottles.
Imported foods were starting to hit the market, but they were expensive. Plastinin decided that his role in the new Russia would be to bring this genius concentrate to the people. He’d brand it as if it were foreign. He came up with the name Wimm-Bill-Dann, which he thought sounded (think Wimbledon) quite English. (Never mind that it said made in russia right on the package; it just didn’t say it in Cyrillic.)
The juice took off, and Plastinin expanded. In 2006, he shrunk his role in what is now a $5.6 billion business and went hunting for new opportunities.
The luck and the timing of Kira’s birth put her in a perfect position to be a walking, talking, dressage-competing poster child for what the Russians are now calling the zolotaya molodezh, or “golden youth.” These MTV-watching kids are the first generation of post-Soviet superrich Russians, and theirs is a hyperluxurious world of private planes, fast cars, and an unembarrassed, unironic relationship with their extreme wealth. According to Forbes Russia, there are 110 billionaires in Russia, which makes Moscow the most billionaire-dense city in the world. (And then, of course, there are the millionaires … ) And they’ve moved out from Moscow to conquer the West: They vacation in Saint-Tropez and the Italian countryside (where Kira insisted that her father take riding lessons, so they could gallop through a forest together), and to London and Paris (where Kira met Vivienne Westwood, who told her to spend some time at the opera and the ballet).
Kira officially became a brand when she was 14 years old. She had always liked sketching dresses in her notebooks during class and dispensing fashion advice to her friends on the weekends. “Also,” she says, “when I was little I loved to go shopping.” She would buy adult clothing and enlist people to tailor it to size. And then there was the time she took one of her mother’s scarves and refashioned it as a dress for her Barbie.
It’s pretty standard teenage fare, but Kira Plastinina has something most teenagers don’t: a superrich Russian father.
“My dad asked me to show him the sketches of what I really liked and what I think is cool, and then I think he showed it to some professional people, but I don’t know because I wasn’t actually there. And then my dad said, ‘Are you willing to do this?’ I was like, ‘Are you serious ?’ ” Kira wriggles up and down a bit in her chair, beating her thighs with her fists. Yes, he was serious, and, yes, she was willing. “I was really happy,” she says. “I have, like, the best parents a girl could wish for.”
Sergei Plastinin arrived in New York several days after his daughter to attend the opening of her shop. He was with a dark-haired, blue-eyed woman: his wife, Olga, who is Kira’s stepmother. They would stay for the opening of the store and then fly to Miami for a weekend at Casa Casuarina, the flashy new hotel in the house where Gianni Versace was killed. It was vacation, that trip, but he conceded that they’d check out a retail location or two as well.
“I was interested in diversifying,” he explains, with his wife translating. He is not confident in English, and his wife, with her clean-scrubbed face and serious demeanor, is. “In terms of fashion, there was no one player in Russia with a significant chunk of the market share. It was very much like the food-production business was fifteen years ago. So it was a segment that I considered very interesting for investment.”
His interest moved fast. He hired an entirely Russian design team, and the company launched in February 2007. After that, the openings came fast and furious, with twelve in Moscow in the first six months. A large Russian advertising agency was hired to bring Kira’s life story, and her fashion tastes, to the Russian masses. “The interest was huge,” Sergei says. “We knew right away we should go worldwide.” Sergei smiles and shrugs a little. He is wearing a white shirt, jeans, and a dark blazer and looks pleasantly rumpled. “She is very good, Kira,” he says. “She even picks out my clothes.”
“You have to understand,” says Bob Higgins, the president of the company in America, “that Sergei is a businessman who looked at Kira not as his daughter but as a prodigy. She is the story. She is a 15-year-old girl, and she is the brand.”
The brand still goes to school full-time. Afterward, she’s driven to her office. Mondays and Thursdays, she presides over what she calls “the Style Council,” where fit models parade before Kira and her design team in muslin realizations of her notebook sessions. Kira & Co. then tweak. “I say what would be cooler and better,” she says of her role. There is a Russian stylist, a woman in her thirties, whom Kira calls “my right hand,” who is with Kira through each and every fitting.
The line is all about Kira, and Kira is all about pink, but not just any pink. There’s a certain shade of bright, nearly magenta pink that Kira calls, alternately, “my pink” or “Kira pink.” “I love pink,” she says. It was her idea that the stores all have a signature piece of Kira furniture: a round pink vinyl couch that Kira calls “the pouf.” After working four, five, or six hours, Kira is chauffeured to the house she shares with her mother, Sergei’s first wife. There is a lot of traffic in Moscow, so she does her homework in the back seat.
“She has always lived in a very intense way,” says Sergei of his daughter, describing a life of piano and dance lessons, after-school clubs. Since launching the business, though, she’s given it all up. All, that is, except for her horse, which she cannot bear to quit.
“His name is Baloven,” she says, clasping her hands beneath her chin, “and I just love him so much. His name means someone who is spoiled and treated too well.”
I ask Kira if Russian teenagers are any different from Americans.
She stares at me blankly, and wrinkles her nose. “I think teenagers are all the same everywhere,” she says.
More than ever, she’s right. A generation ago Russian teenagers were trading for jeans on the black market and listening to hopelessly out-of-date Billy Joel. But there’s no lag, anymore, between the culture that European and American teenagers consume and what makes its way to Russia. Kira and her friends vacillate between punk and pop and R&B with the same immediacy as their counterparts in Orange County or Leeds. They study photos of Lindsay Lohan’s leggings, Nicole Richie’s hair. Kira’s friends wear Abercrombie & Fitch, Topshop, and Hollister, bought during trips abroad or ordered on the Internet. Kira’s on MySpace every day. Her favorite movies are Cruel Intentions and Mean Girls. She watches Pimp My Ride and likes Hilary Duff because “she does a lot for charity.” “I wouldn’t say my design is really Russian,” says Kira, seemingly confused to be asked. “It’s not Russian like red dresses and things like that.” To Kira, to be Russian is to tap into a folk tradition from the past, to dress like a patriotic matryoshka doll. “It’s just really girlie, sweet, and, like, it is a little bit of a princess world, but like a stylish princess.”
“You start out thinking, Oh, she’s Russian so it’s going to be really different, ” says Higgins. “But then you realize that she’s truly a modern teenager. The way teenagers work now, what they’re influenced by, the trends they’re following, are all over the globe.”
Sergei, too, finds it pointless to assess the Russianness of the brand. “It’s global,” he says.
“The customers are girls who are similar to me,” says Kira. “They’re girlie, they’re cute, they’re sweet.” She looks down. “They’re sexy, too. But, well, they’re sporty.” Each collection is organized around a theme, but there is a consistency to the Kira Plastinina look. Although there was an equestrian show (riding hats), that was also quite heavy on pink tulle tutus.
The most recent collection featured the “more edgier side of Kira,” she says, explaining that she’d been listening to Blink-182 a lot. But always, the clothes are undeniably, inevitably poppy. There are belly-baring T-shirts with cats’ eyes on the chest. There are shiny motorcycle jackets, brightly colored leggings, and short, short skirts. There are tiny skintight T-shirts splashed with the loopy cursive logo (a heart dots the i in Kira). They are kind of like doll clothes, but doctored up to pre-hips human size.
And as for next season, Kira has already begun to think: “On the eighth of March is the women’s holiday, and one girl wrote me a letter that was a really nice letter,” she says. “There was this one phrase in it: ‘I hope that the prettiest butterfly would sit on your hand.’ That just inspired me so much. It was such a good present, to give a butterfly to someone, and then I thought, What if the theme for my next show would be butterflies? ”
Kira Plastinina is wandering around her first New York shop less than 24 hours before its opening. “I said I wasn’t going to come till it was open,” she says. “But I couldn’t wait. I was so excited.” She looks around. Armies of sales assistants are steaming stubborn creases out of shiny satin minidresses. “Tomorrow, I’m going to get the pinkest ribbon and the pinkest scissors,” she says.
On a flat-screen television are scenes from Kira’s brief career: Seven girls are aggressively mugging and vamping down a runway. “They’re the girls from Star Factory, ” she explains. Star Factory is a Russian television show similar in content and popularity to American Idol. Kira designed the costumes for the girls and was a regular guest on the show, which, she says, was great for the brand. The runway show ends, and the video cuts to Kira holding a microphone. Her shyness is gone, and she is flipping her hair, tucking her chin coyly, and interviewing Paris Hilton.
Kira starts moving around the store, touching all the clothes and smiling absently. The vice-president for merchandising for Kira in the U.S., Ron Barajas, a middle-aged guy in jeans, sneakers, and hair gelled into a modified faux -hawk, follows closely behind her. She holds up a short, tiered miniskirt. “I love this,” she says. “But I can’t wear it to school because of my dress code.”
“It’s very directional,” says Rod.
“I like this vest,” says Kira. “It looks like a rainbow.”
“She expertly tailored the vest,” says Rod. “It’s masculine and feminine, so you’re like, Oh my God, wow. ” He gestures to the seam. “I mean, where else are you going to see something like that?”
“See?” asks Kira. “A rainbow.”
On opening day, Kira made the store’s very first purchase, which she does every time she opens a store, for good luck, and then she climbed into the Escalade that had been squiring her around town all week and went to the airport: In Moscow, she had exams.
As befits a Russian girl with an American dream, Kira is planning to move to Malibu for the summer. By August, there will be twelve Kira Plastinina shops in the U.S., and Sergei Plastinin thinks it best that his daughter spend some time in her new frontier. (By October, there will be twenty more U.S. stores.) She is, after all, the brand, and how do you market the story of a 15-year-old girl when she is stuck in school in Moscow? Kira’s Russian staff will come to help out if necessary, but Higgins is currently interviewing American designers to fill out the Los Angeles design studio that Plastinin is setting up.
A stable has already been hired as well as a house on the beach. In between launch parties and work, Kira plans to work on getting her driver’s license, learning to surf, and perhaps navigating the precarious adolescent transfer of love from horses to boys, preferably surfer boys, which are in short supply in Moscow. She has already met Audrina from The Hills , who was “very sweet.”
“And I’m going to get a pig,” she says. “A potbellied pig.” She lifts up her shoulders and buries her chin. “Like a miniature pig.” She hugs herself for a minute and sighs. “It’s so cute.”
Her arrival in L.A. will be announced with a launch party and runway show two weeks after her 16th birthday.
A portion of Kira’s New York visit involved a serious planning meeting for the event at the midtown office of her publicists, who have laid out platters of cookies and fruit for the occasion. Kira munches on a chocolate-chip cookie and pays rapt attention.
“We’re inviting tastemakers, media elite, daughters of,” says one of the publicists.
“And sons of,” Kira says quickly, and then she blushes. Her phone goes off, with a loud, poppy ringtone. “It’s Mariah Carey,” she says of the song, digging sheepishly through her bag.
The party will be set up like a closet, a huge white-and-pink fantasy closet. Kira’s closet. Kira in Wonderland. Does Kira know about Alice in Wonderland ?, someone wants to know. Of course, she says. “But my favorite part is the ‘kiss-kiss’ wall,” she says. The kiss-kiss wall is a place where Kira’s friends can write good-luck notes in pink marker. Pink lipstick will also be provided, in case her friends want to kiss the wall too. The party’s really big event will be a performance by the dimpled R&B star Chris Brown. “I want to watch,” Kira says, “ ’cause in Russia one of my favorite Russian singers sang at my fashion show and I was backstage working and I didn’t get to watch.”
“You’ll get to watch,” says one publicist.
“We’ll make a special spot for you, right on the stage,” says another. “Your grand entrance.”
“I want to come down from the ceiling,” Kira says, laughing, “into Chris Brown’s arms.”
She’s blushing again, but determined. It’s going to be the Sweetest 16 ever.
