Maryland Yacht Club Wedding in Pasadena | Ashley & Stephen

Ashley & Stephen had their Maryland Yacht Club wedding in Pasadena overlooking Rock Creek last weekend.  It may have been one of our hottest weddings this year, but the skies were clear and made for an INCREDIBLE sunset!  The Maryland Yacht club was the perfect spot for their wedding especially having such a deep rooted story in Maryland for these two.  The view of Rock Creek and the Patapsco River had cruise ships, fishing boats, and sailboats cruising by all day in the back of their photos.  Aubrey with  Simply Created Events had the entire day timed out so perfectly with us and even helped the cute ring bearer’s make it down the aisle (Reason #157 to hire a coordinator for your wedding day!) The best part of the day that tied into the couple’s gifts, ceremony, & speeches was how they met.  Back in 2002 Ashley & Stephen met through a mutual friend at a baseball field.  They ended up dating for a few years in high school. Living an hour apart at that time made it difficult at that age but they had a shared connection and love of sports. They went separate ways in 2004 right before they each headed off to different colleges. After 8 years of no contact, in 2012 Stephen reconnected through Facebook and after a few months of talking, decided to meet up in person. In April 2012, they went on their (second) first date.  “I think we both knew then that we had a special connection and wanted to spend more time together. We felt the same spark we had back in high school and we knew not to let it go this time.” – Ashley

After their first meeting 15 years ago, these two met down the aisle to start their new journey as husband and wife.  It was so sweet to  capture two people still so connected and in tune after all these years. Enjoy your honeymoon in St. Lucia!!

1. What months do you feel are the best for a wedding on the bay? When does Maryland Yacht Club usually have the most perfect wedding weather? Do you have a weather contingency plan?

"All months are great for weddings on the water. With a gazebo wedding, the water backdrop is spectacular and enhances the couple's ceremony. Summer is the best, but early fall weddings are just as popular.

"In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony would take place in the clubhouse. Since we only have the one room, the ceremony and reception would be in the same space and already set for the meal.

2. What are some of your favorite ways you have seen couples take advantage of having their wedding at a bayside venue? Can you share some of your favorite event ideas?

"Some couples go all out and incorporate every water view for the reception. With the option of taking photos before, during and after the ceremony, the locations for fantastic water view photos are endless. With hillside shots, in the basin with boats behind them or on the beach, our couples make the most of every spectacular view. One of my favorites is working with a bride whose only requirement was to be outside for cocktails. I suggested having a waterside reception with small bistro tables in the grass (on the hill overlooking the water), passed hors d'oeuvres, tiki torches lining the walkway to the gazebo and music and dancing in the gazebo, then moving inside for dinner. It's going to be awesome!"

3. Do your clients ever incorporate sailing into their wedding reception?

"No one has included arriving or departing by boat, but it is definitely an option. Saying goodbye to the happy couple as they depart via boat would be very romantic."

4. What table decorations and other accents would you recommend for a nautical or waterfront wedding theme?

"Bowls with floating candles, shells or river rocks, netting overlays on the tables, boat favors with candy...the options are endless and always beautiful. Couples don't have to have a nautical theme, but it does look pretty."

5. Is there anything else you would like to share about your venue?

"I always try to get a sense of what the couple is looking for and suggest ideas and decorations that help pull everything together. The only "no's" I have are: NO glitter or confetti. Everything else is open for discussion!"

Lindsay + Tony | Maryland Yacht Club Wedding | Pasadena Maryland

The Maryland Yacht Club was the host of Lindsay and Tony’s waterfront wedding . It is situated at the entrance to Rock Creek and commands a grand view of the Patapsco River on one side and Rock Creek on the other.

This bride and groom said their I do’s right on the water which also served as a wonderful backdrop for portraits. Not to mention this place has some kick-butt crab cakes for you and your guests.

What does wedding planning entail at Herrington on the Bay?

Our Event Specialists will be available to help you starting at Day 1, designating floor plans, creating a timeline and plan everything else for the day. They will be primarily responsible for planning your wedding day, communicating with other professionals and vendors to ensure that the event is hosted to your specifications. You will also have a Wedding Day Coordinator who will manage the logistics of your day.

Does Herrington provide a ceremony coordinator?

Although Herrington does not provide a wedding ceremony coordinator, we can add this service to your contract. Pricing depends on the date/time of your event. Herrington does supply ceremony guidelines to all of our clients.

May I have my wedding ceremony rehearsal on the Polynesian Lawn or Herring Bay Garden?

Herrington will endeavor to accommodate a rehearsal time based upon availability.

What happens if I have an outdoor ceremony and it rains?

Herrington on the Bay provides a rain plan for your reception. We can quickly relocate your ceremony within the facility that you have reserved for your reception at no extra cost.

Is there electricity at the Polynesian Lawn and Herring Bay Garden?

Yes, the power is within 25 feet of the lawns and is available for podiums, musicians, and other ceremony needs.

How many guests can be seated in the Harbour View Ballroom (lower level)?

100 guests.

How many guests can be seated in the Chesapeake Ballroom (upper level)?

150 guests.

How many guests can be seated in the Paradise Ballroom (outdoor tent facility)?

Between 190-200 guests, depending on the meal service and up to 350 guests with the rental of a tent extension.

How do my guests find my ceremony and reception site?

Directions and GPS addresses for our ceremony and reception sites are located on our website at www.herringtononthebay.com. Herrington can provide an original copy of written directions that you may reproduce and distribute at your discretion.

Is there enough parking for my guests?

Yes. We have ample, free parking whether your event is located in one of the rooms of the Herrington Yacht Club or Paradise Ballroom.

What uniform does the staff wear?

Herrington’s staff wears all black catering attire. A more casual style uniform may be worn upon request.

Who supplies chairs for the ceremony?

Herrington furnishes white folding chairs for wedding ceremonies. These chairs are cleaned 30 minutes prior to your ceremony.

Are the deposits refundable?

No. Once you have reserved our services or property for your event, we no longer offer the date and/or location to other guests and therefore, we may not resell the date if your event is cancelled.

In the cost summary, it appears as though the labor cost is taxed. Is that correct?

Yes. Maryland State Law requires that any labor cost applied to catered parties for 12 or more guests must be taxed at the Maryland Sales Tax rate.

Is gratuity included in the labor cost?

The labor cost is not a gratuity. It is used to pay salaries and wages. Any voluntary tips you choose to offer in addition to the labor cost are very much appreciated.

Who provides the flowers and centerpieces?

Herrington permits each client to provide their own unique flowers and centerpieces.

Is there lodging on site?

The Inn at Herrington Harbour is located on site, and has several guest rooms and suites available to rent. The Dover House is a 3 bedroom home that is available to rent through Herrington on the Bay.

Can I take leftover food home?

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health requires that any leftover food be handled only by Herrington on the Bay, the licensed food service facility.

Does Herrington allow outside caterers?

Herrington on the Bay provides exclusive food and beverage services to anyone hosting an event at our site. Aside from supplying your own wedding cake, no other food or beverages may be provided by outsider suppliers.

May I bring my own food, linens, or other rental items?

Herrington is a full service caterer and exclusively provides all food, linens or other needs at the best value possible.

Can I bring my own liquor, beer, wine, and/or champagne?

Herrington on the Bay owns the liquor license for the property. Therefore, if your event is held at our property, you may not bring your own spirits or liquor.

Let's start with the staff... Ryan, Annette & their entire staff are top notch. They each are personally invested in helping each couple achieve their dream day. From the Pro Shop to the catering staff, you will find a friendly face to make your day magical. The location itself, speaks for itself. Acres of beauty, water, golfing, scenery and exclusivity. Once you enter the grounds of Swan Point, you'll feel at home knowing that your wedding day is in good hands. Whether having a ceremony by the water or in the clubhouse, you've got beauty all around you. The food... treat yourself to a tasting and you can't make a wrong choice. I've seen everything from their brunch menu to their dinner menu. I've seen their rehearsal dinner options and they are ALL tasty! I'll leave you with this. The first time I visited Swan Point with one of my brides, I left the appointment and simply told her, "O don't know why you'd look anywhere else."
