The Sailor's Style Guide: How to Dress at a Yacht Club

If you've been invited to a casual yacht club rendezvous, you'll need the right threads to fit in.  in this guide, we'll walk you through the yacht club attire you'll need to fit in. hint: you can find the perfect outfit head to toe with castaway.

You've been invited to a meal or event at a local yacht club, but you've never been to one before. Suddenly, the panic sets in. What should you wear? Fortunately, there are lots of options and visiting a yacht club does not mean you have to spend a lot of money just to fit in. This post will give you some pointers on yacht club attire so that you feel neither under nor overdressed, and can really enjoy yourself and have a great time at the club.

Before you even think about what to wear, check to see if the yacht club you're going to has a dress code posted online. Most of them do, and the rules can vary from club to club. The Nantucket Yacht Club , for example, requires semi-formal attire for its dinners and cocktail attire including ties for men during its dinner dances and balls. The Hyannis Yacht Club goes into a little more detail. It accepts stylish casual wear including clean, neat jeans and shorts for lunch. For dinner, guests are expected to step it up by leaving the denim at home and wearing sports coats. Different areas of a club may also have different dress rules. Bars and outdoor decks tend to more lax and allow casual clothing.

Sometimes, the easiest way of narrowing down what to wear is to eliminate what you should not wear. This is just a partial list of how not to show up at any kind of yacht club unless you want to be denied admittance or receive a lot of disapproving glares. All rules listed apply to the inside of the club, and can vary for beach and dock rulings.

Flip Flops or Going Barefoot: This rule applies INSIDE the club, or for any meal time. Most people love the beach, but going barefoot is not only unacceptable, but unhygienic.

You'll want to wear appropriate footwear such as sturdy sandals or closed toe shoes. While a lot of children and adults love their flip-flops, they may be a little too casual for a yacht club atmosphere. The most popular choice here is a boat shoe style but a bridle bit driver is always appropriate - check the latest . The lightly worn leather and pencil-curled laces fit the bill in the cool department.

Torn, Stained, or Worn Clothing: Any attire that is showing signs of wear such as rips, stains that never came out, holes, missing buttons, etc. should be left at home.

Baseball Caps and Other Hats: Most yacht clubs prefer that men remove their caps when inside the venue. Save them for the sailing excursions.

Extra points on the water if you rock the Club’s Burgee on the hat!

Swimwear: Just a no-no. Save it for the boat and the beach. A cover-up can be acceptable for the patio.

Going Shirtless: Nope!

Undershirts as Shirts: See above. You may also want to be careful about choosing a t-shirt, particularly one with graphics, when visiting a yacht club. Most prefer that you wear a collared shirt, even if it's a casual one such as a polo shirt.

Tank tops for men and any tank tops for women that are skimpy and don't hide undergarments should be saved for another occasion.

Women have a lot of options when it comes to visiting a yacht club. Linen and cotton make the perfect summer blouses. A light but structured Sleeveless Top paired with a  sweater is perfect for warding off cool sea breezes when you're out on the deck. A polo or collared shirt works well for the yacht club scene as well. You can also consider a dressy blouse that has a little bit of flounce to it. If shorts are allowed for the time and area of the club you're visiting, consider sporting  Sailing  shorts  with a cute anchor embroidery. They're cool, classy, and show off just the right amount of leg. Casual skirts and dresses are perfectly fine as well as long as they're not too short and revealing. If you're attending a party at a yacht club you may need to wear a nice cocktail dress, or a classic Tunic Dress for a day event. Special events such as balls and dinner dances usually specify what is appropriate attire on the invitation.

Don't forget to have fun with accessories! A straw handbag can complete a nautical themed look.

For most casual yacht club occasions, men can't go wrong with a collared shirt and long pants or Cisco Shorts . Pastel and preppy shades such as summer green, hurricane red, and islander blue rule here.

When casual attire is allowed, collared sport or polo shirts are always in fashion. Seersucker and linen shirts are available in several colors and patterns for summer club get-togethers. If jeans are not allowed, seersucker or cotton canvas pants are still casual and comfortable yet dressy enough for all areas of a yacht club. If you really want to show your love of nautical dressing, consider wearing a fun Embroidered Pant !

Or you can opt for solid pants but add some nautical flair with an embroidered belt . Classic summer staples like Seersucker and Madras Patches will make you the talk of the Club, in a good way!

For those chilly sea breezes and evenings, a quarter zip pullover wards off the cool air while keeping you stylish and casual.

It's a good idea to keep a sportcoat and a few ties in your closet just in case the yacht club you're visiting requires it. Opt for a fun all over embroidered jacket, or a Madras Patchwork style to really up your game.

Kids' clothing should conform to the same yacht club rules as established for grown-up guests. If you really want your son to look cute, consider dressing him in the same matching outfit as dad.

When it comes to dressing for a day at the yacht club, nothing quite screams classic and sophisticated like a white linen shirt and navy shorts. This combination is perfect for the warm weather, as the lightweight and breathable nature of linen will keep you cool and comfortable throughout the day. The white shirt is also a timeless staple that exudes elegance and luxury, making it a perfect choice for the occasion.

When selecting a white linen shirt for your outfit, opt for a well-fitted style that sits nicely on your shoulders and doesn't billow out too much at the waist. You might choose a shirt with a pointed collar, which adds a touch of formality and can be paired with a well-fitted blazer if the weather cools down in the evening. For a more casual look, leave the collar unbuttoned and roll up the sleeves to keep the outfit feeling relaxed.

Pairing your white shirt with navy shorts is a classic choice that works well for a variety of settings. The navy color provides a subtle contrast to the white shirt while remaining understated and chic. When choosing your shorts, look for a style that hits just above the knee, as this length will flatter most body types and keep your look comfortable yet stylish.

To complete the look, consider adding some simple accessories, such as a brown leather belt or boat shoes. This will tie your outfit together and create a cohesive look that is both effortless and put-together. You might also want to bring along a lightweight jacket or sweater, especially if you plan on spending time out on the water.

In conclusion, a white linen shirt and navy shorts are an excellent choice for a day at the yacht club. This classic combination is timeless and sophisticated, yet comfortable and practical for warm weather. Espadrilles are comfortable, stylish and add a beachy vibe to the outfit. You can choose a leather or canvas pair in neutral colors like beige, tan, or white to complement the outfit. The wedged espadrille style works well for a yacht club, providing support and comfort, while still looking chic and feminine.

Rock the Night Away: Dressing for a Santana Concert

If you're wondering what to wear to a yacht club, khaki pants with a navy blazer is a classic, timeless look that's not only appropriate but also stylish. Yacht clubs generally have a preppy, nautical vibe, and this outfit complements that aesthetic perfectly.

Start with a pair of slim-fitting khaki pants, which are a staple in any preppy wardrobe. The color is neutral enough to go with just about any outfit, and the slim fit adds a touch of modernity. Pair them with a classic navy blazer, which is an essential piece for any yacht club attire. The navy blazer is smart, sophisticated, and versatile, making it perfect for any occasion.

Underneath the blazer, a light, crisp button-down shirt will tie the whole outfit together. A simple white or light blue shirt keeps the look clean and classic, while a patterned or striped shirt adds a bit of personality. Finish the outfit with a pair of brown loafers or boat shoes, which are not only comfortable but also perfect for a day spent on deck.

You can accessorize with a pocket square or a tie, depending on the formality of the occasion. A patterned tie can add a pop of color and interest to the outfit, while a pocket square can add a more refined touch. However, if the occasion is more laidback, ditching the tie and pocket square is perfectly acceptable as well.

Overall, khaki pants with a navy blazer is a fail-proof outfit for any yacht club occasion. It's classic, sophisticated, and timeless, and you're sure to fit right in with the nautical crowd.

Pajama Perfect: Tips for the Ultimate Sleepover Look

If you're heading to a yacht club for a day of sailing or simply to enjoy the ambiance, it's essential that you dress appropriately. Wearing clothes that are both comfortable and stylish can make your experience all the more enjoyable. For both men and women, pairing boat shoes with chinos is a great option that is always in fashion.

Boat shoes are a staple in any yacht club setting. They are both comfortable and fashionable, perfect for any outdoor activity. The non-slip sole and water-resistant material make them perfect for wearing on the docks or deck. There are many different styles and colors to choose from, so you can find the perfect pair to match your wardrobe.

Chinos are a great addition to any outfit and are a nice alternative to traditional jeans or shorts. They are lightweight and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Pairing them with boat shoes is a classic look that never goes out of style. They are perfect for a day spent lounging on the deck or walking around the yacht club.

Accessories can also add to the overall look. For men, a leather belt and a watch can complete the look. For women, a scarf or sunglasses can be a nice addition. A well-crafted nautical-themed scarf is not only a great accessory, but it also adds an element of sophistication to the outfit. Navy blue, red, and white stripes or anchors are popular motifs for nautical-themed scarves, and they pair perfectly with white jeans. You can wear this scarf in a variety of ways, including around your neck, tied to your tote bag, or even as a headband.

White jeans are a summer wardrobe essential, and they work exceptionally well when paired with a nautical-themed scarf. They are cool, comfortable, and look great with a variety of tops. If you're planning to hit the yacht club, it's important to make a good impression, and nothing exudes class and sophistication quite like a pastel polo shirt and khaki shorts. This timeless combination strikes the perfect balance between casual and dressy and is ideal for a day spent by the water.

A good quality pastel polo shirt is an essential item in any wardrobe. It's versatile enough to be dressed up or down and goes well with a variety of other pieces. Plus, a polo shirt is a classic look that never goes out of style. For the yacht club, make sure you choose a light, pastel color like baby blue, pink, or mint green. The soft color will complement the relaxed vibe of the yacht club perfectly.

Khaki shorts are another essential item for any yacht club outfit. They're casual yet stylish and have a distinct nautical feel to them. When choosing a pair of khaki shorts, make sure they're tailored to give you a sharp, polished look. Avoid baggy, ill-fitting shorts that can look sloppy.

When it comes to footwear, loafers are a great option. They're comfortable, stylish, and look great with polo shirts and shorts. Opt for a neutral color like brown or beige that will complement your outfit and ensure you're comfortable all day long.

Finally, accessorize with a leather belt to complete the look. A simple, classic leather belt is an understated addition to your outfit and will help bring your whole look together. Avoid any statement accessories that can distract from the classic, sophisticated vibe you're going for.

Overall, a pastel polo shirt and khaki shorts are the perfect outfit for a day spent at the yacht club. The casual yet dressy look is timeless and versatile, and it's sure to make a lasting impression. With a little attention to detail, you can craft the perfect outfit that exudes class and sophistication.

Stylish Pairings: Choosing the Perfect Shoes for a Leopard Print Dress

When heading to the yacht club, you want to make sure your outfit is both stylish and comfortable. The perfect outfit to wear to a yacht club event is a flowy maxi dress with wedges. This style is both elegant and comfortable, making it the perfect choice for spending time on the water.

A flowy maxi dress is perfect for any yacht club event because it allows for both comfort and sophistication. The dress’s long, flowy fabric is perfect for a sunny day out on the water, and it won’t constrict your movement as you move around the boat. Additionally, the dress’s elegant style exudes sophistication and class, making you feel confident and stylish.

Pairing the maxi dress with wedges completes the look. Not only do wedges give added height and elongate your legs, but they’re also more comfortable and easier to move around in than other types of heels. This comfortable and stylish combination will make you the envy of everyone on board.

When choosing a maxi dress, opt for a breezy fabric that will keep you cool in the heat. Light colors such as white, pastel pink or blue will make for a classic look, while bright and bold patterns can add a touch of fun to your outfit. Pair your dress with minimal accessories to keep the focus on the elegant and comfortable dress and wedges.

In conclusion, choosing a flowy maxi dress with wedges is the perfect outfit to wear to a yacht club event. This combination is both comfortable and stylish, allowing you to enjoy your day out on the water while looking good doing it. With the right choice of accessories, you’ll be the talk of the town, and most importantly, comfortable the whole day.

Dress to Impress: Quinceanera Guest Attire Guide

If you're planning on spending a sunny afternoon at the yacht club, dressing appropriately is a must. A sophisticated yet modern look that's perfect for such an event is cropped white pants paired with a boatneck top. This combination strikes the right balance between comfort, style, and elegance, allowing you to enjoy the day without compromising on fashion.

Cropped white pants are a versatile and trendy piece that can elevate any outfit. They are light and airy, making them perfect for warm weather. You can style them with a variety of tops, but a boatneck top is a great option because it adds a touch of refinement to the look. The boatneck cut is timeless and flattering, making it an excellent choice for any occasion.

When it comes to shoes, opt for comfortable yet stylish footwear that complements your outfit. You can never go wrong with a pair of classic loafers or boat shoes, which are effortless to wear and will keep your feet comfortable all day long. Avoid heels or wedges, as they can be challenging to walk in at a yacht club.

Accessorizing is also essential when completing this look. A tote bag is a practical and chic accessory that goes well with white cropped pants and a boatneck top. Choose a bag that's large enough to hold all your essentials such as sunglasses, sunscreen, and a water bottle. You can also add a statement bracelet or a pair of oversized earrings to add a touch of glamor to your outfit.

In summary, when attending a yacht club, choosing the right outfit is integral to ensuring a comfortable and stylish day. White cropped pants paired with a boatneck top is an excellent option for a sophisticated yet modern look. Accessorize with boat shoes, a tote bag, and statement jewelry to complete the look and exude confidence.

- It depends on the dress code of the particular yacht club you are visiting. Some yacht clubs may allow jeans as long as they are clean and non-ripped, while others may require dressier attire. It is best to check with the club ahead of time or err on the side of caution and avoid wearing jeans.

Dress for Yacht Club Party: From Formal to Casual Elegance

Stepping into a yacht club is like entering a world where tradition and luxury blend seamlessly. It’s a place where the dress code matters just as much as the knots you can tie. I’ve always been fascinated by the elegance and the unspoken rules that govern these exclusive enclaves.

Navigating the yacht club dress code can be a bit like charting unknown waters. You want to fit in, yet stand out; respect tradition, yet showcase your personal style. It’s a delicate balance, but don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. From crisp linens to the perfect boat shoes, I’ll walk you through what to wear to make a splash without rocking the boat.

Understanding Yacht Club Culture

Importance of dress code in yacht clubs, essential clothing items for men and women, footwear and accessories etiquette, navigating formal vs. informal events, frequently asked questions.

When I first stepped into the world of yacht clubs, I was struck by the intricate blend of tradition and modern luxury that permeates these spaces. Yacht clubs aren’t just about boats; they’re about a lifestyle that values elegance, camaraderie, and respect for the sea. The culture within these clubs is rich with history, and understanding it is crucial for anyone looking to blend in seamlessly.

At the heart of yacht club culture is a strong sense of community. Members often share a deep passion for sailing and the ocean, which fosters a unique bond. This camaraderie is evident in the warm welcomes I’ve received and the shared stories of adventure at sea. It’s this sense of community that makes the yacht club experience so enriching.

Another cornerstone of yacht club culture is the respect for tradition. Many clubs have histories that stretch back over a century, with traditions that have been passed down through generations. From the specific flags flown to the ceremonies performed, these traditions help connect members to the storied past of their club.

Understanding the dress code is an integral part of embracing yacht club culture. The attire reflects the balance between formality and the laid-back sea lifestyle. Here’s a quick guide to help navigate through the essentials:

Formal Events Blazer, slacks, tie Cocktail dress
Casual Gatherings Polo shirt, chinos Blouse, skirt or slacks
On The Water Performance gear, shorts Performance gear, shorts

Embracing yacht club culture means more than just adhering to a dress code—it’s about immersing yourself in a lifestyle that values grace, tradition, and a shared love for the sea. As I’ve ventured through this world, my appreciation for these principles has only deepened, enriching my experiences both on and off the water.

The dress code at yacht clubs isn’t just about looking good—it’s a way to show respect for the traditions and values that these clubs hold dear. Over the years, I’ve come to understand that adhering to these attire guidelines is integral to the yachting experience, blending the elegance of sailing with a sense of belonging among members.

Yacht clubs are steeped in history, with many having been established over a century ago. As a member or guest, dressing appropriately is a nod to the rich traditions and the high standards these clubs maintain. It’s not just about the clothes; it’s about being part of a community that values grace and decorum.

At first glance, the dress code might seem daunting. However, it’s really about understanding the importance of various events and activities within the club. For example, casual attire may be acceptable during the day, while evenings often require more formal wear, especially at club dinners or special events.

To make things easier, here’s a quick guide:

Occasion Men’s Attire Women’s Attire
Daytime Casual Polo shirts, shorts, boat shoes Sundresses, blouses, sandals
Evening Formal Blazers, dress shirts, trousers Dresses, skirts, dress shoes

This guide is a starting point, but always check with the specific yacht club for their particular dress code as nuances can vary greatly.

Remember, the essence of adhering to the dress code lies not just in following rules but in embracing the lifestyle. It reflects a shared respect among members for the club’s history, traditions, and the very spirit of yachting. Walking through the club doors dressed appropriately, I always feel a stronger connection to both the past and present of the seafaring community, reinforcing that the dress code is more than attire—it’s about belonging.

When it comes to yacht club attire, both men and women must be mindful of selecting pieces that strike the right balance between elegance and comfort. It’s not just about making a fashion statement but about adhering to a tradition that has been cherished for generations. Here’s a breakdown of the must-have clothing items for men and women to ensure you’re always yacht-club-ready.

For men, the essentials are somewhat straightforward but require attention to detail. A crisp, button-down shirt is non-negotiable. Whether it’s for a casual daytime event or a more formal evening gathering, a high-quality, well-fitted shirt sets the tone. Pair it with chino shorts or trousers depending on the occasion. Here’s a quick glance at the essentials:

Button-Down Shirt Daytime & Evening
Chino Shorts Casual & Daytime
Trousers Formal & Evening
Blazers Formal Events
Boat Shoes All Occasions

For women, versatility is key. A chic, midi-length sundress serves well for most daytime activities, offering both comfort and style. For evenings, women might opt for a more structured cocktail dress. Accessories should be understated yet sophisticated, complementing the outfit without overshadowing it.

Sundress Casual & Daytime
Cocktail Dress Evening & Formal
Tailored Blazers Formal Events
Wedges or Sandals All occasions

Understanding the significance of these items isn’t just about following rules; it’s about embracing a lifestyle that respects the legacy and luxury of yachting. Dress codes at yacht clubs are more than a list of what to wear—they’re a testament to the club’s history, values, and the collective spirit of its members. By preparing your wardrobe with these essentials, you’re not just dressing for the occasion. You’re paying homage to a tradition that has been the cornerstone of yacht clubs around the world.

Selecting the right footwear and accessories is just as crucial as choosing your outfit for a yacht club event. In the world of yachting, where tradition meets contemporary luxury, every detail counts in making that impeccable impression.

When it comes to footwear , both comfort and style take the helm. For men, leather loafers or boat shoes are the gold standard, effortlessly blending with the semi-formal attire expected at most yacht clubs. Women, on the other hand, have a bit more latitude, with options ranging from sophisticated sandals to elegant wedges. The key is ensuring your shoes complement your outfit while also being practical for walking on deck.

Accessories serve as the final flourish to your yacht club ensemble. For men, a classic watch or a tastefully simple bracelet can add a touch of refinement without overshadowing the overall look. Women can elevate their outfit with statement jewelry, a stylish hat, or a chic clutch. However, remember the golden rule: less is more. It’s all about enhancing your appearance without going overboard.

Here are some quick reference tables to guide your choices:

Dressing for a Yacht Club Party

Lucky you!  You have just received an invitation for your very first yacht club party.  For most people this brings up the question “What on earth do I wear?”.  Have no fear!  We work with many yacht clubs to make sure their members look sharp with custom ties and scarves .  Here are some of our style tips to help you navigate the waters of yacht club fashion and pull together an amazing outfit.

Yacht Club Wear – Do Nots

While yacht club attire can vary by club and time of day of the event, there are certain items that just won’t do.  You should always avoid the following:

  • T-Shirts / Tank Tops
  • Revealing clothing (i.e. cut-off shirts, mini skirts, etc)
  • Wrinkled or otherwise “sloppy” attire

Also, while you may be tempted to don an ascot or jaunty captain’s hat … don’t.  For most people this will come across as cliche rather than sporty.  Classic styles, nautical colors and smart layers are the best way to go when building your dock-side ensemble.  You can also shop many of the clubs’ stores for shirts and ties embellished with the club logo.

Yacht Club Wear –  Dos

Hopefully, your invitation indicates the dress code.  But if it doesn’t, there are two general rules of thumb.  If the party is during the day, then select attire in the “country club casual” category.  If the party is in the evening, opt for traditional cocktail party wear.

Country Club Casual for Men

A classic polo or Oxford shirt is the standard for men.  Shirts should be clean, in good condition and neatly pressed.  These should be worn with black slacks or khakis.  When it comes to shoes, loafers in brown or black are the most popular choice.  A less popular but also acceptable footwear option is a pair of leather boots in black or brown.  Some yacht clubs require blazers even for daytime events.  To be safe, check the attire requirements posted on the club’s website or call them prior to the event.

Country Club Casual for Women

Just like men, polo shirts paired with well-cut slacks are an acceptable option for women.  Women can also choose a tailored blouse worn with a knee-length cotton skirt for a slightly dressier look.  Another popular ensemble is a simple summer dress with minimal accessories.  A cashmere sweater is the perfect outer layer to protect from cool breezes.  Ballet flats are the top shoe choice when dressing country club casual.

Cocktail Attire for Men

While not as formal as black-tie, cocktail wear is decidedly dressier than daytime apparel at a yacht club.  Dress slacks with a jacket and tie or a full suit are both appropriate options for an evening event.  Choose neutrals and subdued tones over bright colors or prints.  Men should accessorize with a black leather belt and matching shoes.  Stick with a loafer or Oxford style shoe and be sure your socks coordinate with your pants.

Cocktail Attire for Women

Cocktail dresses should be knee-length or midi-length in a solid or very subtle print.  If you are having a tough time finding the right color, the quintessential “little black dress” is always a smart choice.  Another popular trend for evening events is a formal women’s pant suit.  When it comes to accessorizing, less is more.  Choose a single statement piece of jewelry rather than a multitude of pieces and opt for a clutch instead of a shoulder bag.  Heels, dressy sandals, and ballet flats are all acceptable shoe options.

Yacht party etiquette.

Yacht parties blend luxury with the serene beauty of the sea, creating a unique setting for social gatherings. Understanding etiquette and dress code is key to enjoying these exclusive events to the fullest. When it comes to “what to wear to a yacht party,” the stakes are high, as your attire not only reflects your style but also your respect for the host and the occasion.

Navigating the nuances of yacht party fashion can be a breeze with a few guiding principles in mind. From selecting the right fabrics that marry comfort with elegance to choosing outfits that resonate with the time of day and a specific theme of the event, every detail counts. This guide aims to demystify the expectations surrounding yacht party attire, ensuring you make a splash for all the right reasons. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned attendee, understanding the dos and don’ts of yacht party fashion will enhance your experience and ensure you contribute positively to the luxurious ambiance. So, let’s set the course for a deep dive into the world of yacht party etiquette, with a special focus on decoding what to wear to ensure you look your best while enjoying the high seas in style.

Understanding the Yacht Party Dress Code

Yacht party dress codes can vary from casual chic to formal elegance, depending on the occasion. It’s important to inquire about the dress code in advance to ensure your outfit is perfectly suited for the event. This proactive approach not only shows respect for your host’s preferences but also ensures you feel comfortable and confident among the other guests.

Yacht Party Dress Code

Yacht parties often reflect the personality and style of the host, meaning that each event can have its unique twist on attire expectations. For daytime events, you might find a more laid-back, nautical-inspired dress code, favoring light fabrics and vibrant colors that complement the sea’s natural beauty. Evening gatherings, however, may call for a touch of sophistication with cocktail dresses, tailored suits, or even thematic attire that aligns with the party’s motif.

When decoding the dress code, consider the location and time of year. A yacht party in a tropical locale might lean towards breezy summer dresses and linen shirts, while cooler climates could call for layered outfits that still adhere to a chic, nautical aesthetic. Accessories also play a crucial role in your ensemble; select pieces that enhance your outfit without overshadowing the event’s vibe .

Ultimately, understanding and adhering to the yacht party dress code is about finding the perfect balance between personal style and the event’s theme. It’s an opportunity to showcase your fashion sense while respecting the setting and occasion. By doing so, you contribute to the event’s overall elegance and ensure that the party remains an enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone on board.

For Women: Dressing for a Yacht Party

When dressing for a yacht party, women have a myriad of stylish options that blend comfort with elegance. Here are some extended tips to ensure you look your best on the high seas:

Opt for Light Fabrics

Choosing the right fabric is crucial for staying comfortable throughout the event. Beyond cotton and linen, consider silk or chiffon for a touch of luxury that’s still breathable. These fabrics are not only ideal for maintaining comfort in the sun but also move beautifully in the sea breeze, adding a dynamic element to your outfit.

Elegant Evening Wear

Evening yacht parties often call for a step up in formality. A sophisticated cocktail dress or a chic maxi dress remains a perfect choice, with the addition of a lightweight shawl or pashmina to ward off the chill after sunset. Consider the silhouette and neckline of your dress to ensure it’s in harmony with the yacht’s setting—something that offers elegance without sacrificing comfort.

Stay Colorful

The backdrop of the sea and sky provides a perfect canvas for vibrant colors and patterns. Don’t shy away from bold prints or nautical stripes that echo the setting. Pastel shades work beautifully during the day, while jewel tones can add a rich depth to evening attire. Remember, the goal is to complement the beauty of your surroundings without overshadowing it.

Accessorize Wisely

Accessories can elevate your yacht party outfit from simple to stunning. Opt for statement pieces like a bold necklace or chic earrings to add a focal point to your look. However, it’s crucial to balance statement pieces with the overall simplicity of your outfit to maintain an air of understated elegance.

Footwear Considerations

When it comes to footwear, comfort and practicality are key. For daytime events, stylish flat sandals or espadrilles can be perfect. They offer ease of movement on deck without sacrificing style. For evening affairs, a pair of wedged heels can add elegance while still being practical for the yacht’s surfaces. Always choose non-marking soles to avoid scuffing the deck.

Final Touches

Remember, a yacht party is as much about enjoying the setting as it is about socializing. Choose outfits that allow you to move freely and enjoy the amenities offered. Whether lounging on deck, participating in activities, or dancing under the stars , your outfit should enhance your experience, not hinder it.

By keeping these extended tips in mind, women can confidently navigate the dress code for any yacht party, ensuring they look fabulous and feel comfortable from sunup to sundown.

For Men: What to Wear to a Yacht Party

Dressing for a yacht party offers men the chance to showcase their style while adhering to comfort and appropriateness for the maritime setting. Here are some extended guidelines to ensure you’re well-prepared for any yacht party.

Casual Daytime Looks

For daytime events, the key is to combine comfort with style. Alongside polo shirts, consider lightweight, breathable linen shirts that keep you cool under the sun. These can be paired with well-fitted chinos or Bermuda shorts, depending on the level of formality of the event. Choose light colors or pastels to reflect the daylight and contribute to the overall festive atmosphere.

Evening Sophistication

As the sun sets and the event turns more formal, the attire should shift accordingly. A well-tailored blazer, paired with a crisp shirt underneath, can elevate your look instantly. Opt for trousers in navy, beige, or white to maintain the nautical theme. A lightweight cashmere sweater can also be a stylish addition if the evening gets cooler, offering both warmth and sophistication.

Embrace Nautical Themes

Nautical themes offer a playful yet stylish way to dress for a yacht party. This doesn’t mean going overboard with anchor prints or sailor hats but subtly incorporating maritime elements into your outfit. Think navy blue, white, and stripes. A well-chosen accessory, such as a belt or a scarf with a nautical print, can add a touch of personality to your look without detracting from the sophistication.

Footwear Choices

Footwear is an essential aspect of your yacht party attire, blending style with function. For daytime, consider boat shoes or loafers in light colors that match well with both shorts and chinos. For the evening, you can opt for more formal shoes, like brogues or loafers in darker shades. Remember, the shoes should have non-marking soles to protect the yacht deck.

Accessories to Complement Your Look

Accessories play a vital role in completing your yacht party outfit. A stylish pair of sunglasses is a must-have for daytime events to protect your eyes and add a cool factor to your look. A classic watch can also enhance your outfit, offering functionality and elegance. Choose accessories that are understated yet refined to maintain a balance between casual and formal.

Practical Considerations

While style is important, practicality should not be overlooked. Opt for fabrics that offer breathability and comfort, as you’ll be spending time in the sun and by the sea. Additionally, it’s wise to bring a lightweight jacket or blazer for the evening, as temperatures can drop. Always consider the activities planned for the event and dress accordingly, ensuring your outfit allows for a range of motion and enjoyment of the festivities.

By following these extended guidelines, men can confidently dress for any yacht party, ensuring they strike the perfect balance between style, comfort, and appropriateness for this unique setting.

Accessorizing Your Yacht Party Outfit

When planning what to wear to a yacht party, the role of accessories should not be underestimated. They are the finishing touches that can elevate your outfit, ensuring you look polished and put-together. Here’s how to choose accessories that enhance your yacht party attire without compromising on comfort or practicality.

Yachting

Sunglasses and Hats

The right pair of sunglasses is not just a practical necessity for a day spent on the water; it’s also a style statement. Look for high-quality lenses that offer UV protection to shield your eyes from harmful rays. Frame styles can vary from classic aviators to modern wayfarers, depending on your taste and the vibe of the party.

Hats offer additional protection and can be a stylish accessory for both men and women. Women might opt for wide-brimmed hats that provide ample sun protection while adding an element of glamour. Men can consider a fedora or a Panama hat for a touch of sophistication. Remember, the goal is to complement your outfit and the occasion, so choose hats that are stylish yet functional.

Minimal Jewelry

When it comes to selecting jewelry for a yacht party, the mantra ‘less is more’ certainly applies. For women, simple, elegant pieces like a delicate necklace, a pair of stud earrings, or a thin bracelet can add a touch of sophistication without being too flashy. Men might consider a classic watch or a simple bracelet as a subtle addition to their outfit. The key is to choose jewelry that enhances your look without overpowering it or getting in the way of activities.

Practical Tips for Accessorizing

Match Your Metals : Ensure that your jewelry metals match for a cohesive look. Mixing metals can be done tastefully, but for a yacht party, simplicity often reigns supreme.

Consider the Event’s Theme : If the yacht party has a specific theme, consider accessorizing accordingly. Nautical-themed accessories can be a fun touch for events that embrace the maritime setting.

Quality Over Quantity : Choose a few high-quality pieces over a multitude of cheaper options. This not only elevates your look but also ensures your accessories withstand the elements.

Functionality is Key : Remember that you’ll be on a moving vessel, so choose accessories that won’t easily get lost or damaged. Securely fitted items are preferable to loose, dangling pieces that could catch or fall off.

By thoughtfully selecting accessories that align with the overarching theme of what to wear to a yacht party, you can ensure that your outfit is both stylish and suitable for the unique environment of a yacht. Remember, the right accessories can significantly impact your overall look, providing an extra layer of polish and sophistication to your yacht party attire.

Footwear: Choosing the Right Shoes for a Yacht

Selecting the appropriate footwear is a crucial aspect of preparing for a yacht party. The right shoes not only complement your outfit but also ensure safety and comfort as you navigate the deck. Here’s how to choose wisely:

Non-marking Soles

The primary rule for yacht footwear is to choose shoes with non-marking soles. Yachts often have delicate decking that can be easily scuffed or damaged by hard, dark soles. Look for shoes specifically designed with light-colored, soft soles that leave no traces behind. This consideration shows respect for the vessel and its owner, adhering to yacht etiquette.

Comfort is Key

While style is important, comfort takes precedence when you’re at sea. You’ll likely be standing, walking, or dancing for extended periods, so selecting shoes that offer support and comfort is essential. For women, this might mean choosing wedges or flats instead of high heels, which can be unstable on a moving boat. Men might opt for loafers or boat shoes that provide both comfort and a nautical aesthetic.

Style That Suits the Occasion

Your footwear should match the style and formality of your yacht party attire. For a more casual day event, stylish sandals, boat shoes, or espadrilles are perfectly acceptable and blend well with the maritime environment. For evening events that call for a more formal dress code, choose elegant yet practical footwear that complements your outfit without sacrificing comfort.

Slip Resistance : Besides non-marking soles, look for shoes that offer good grip and slip resistance. Boat decks can become slippery, especially if wet, so shoes with strong treads can help prevent falls and injuries.

Material Matters : Consider the material of your shoes. Leather and canvas are popular choices for yacht footwear because they’re durable and can handle the marine environment. Synthetic materials that allow for breathability and quick drying are also beneficial, especially if they get wet.

Easy to Remove : Shoes that can be easily slipped on and off are practical for yacht settings, where you might be asked to remove them before entering certain areas of the boat to prevent damage to the interior floors.

By following these guidelines for choosing the right shoes for a yacht, you’ll ensure that your footwear is appropriate, comfortable, and stylish. Remember, the best yacht party shoes strike a balance between elegance and practicality, allowing you to enjoy the festivities confidently and comfortably.

Between “black-tie optional” and “semi-formal,” the language in wedding invitations can be difficult to understand, leaving you completely in the dark about the appropriate attire for wedding guests. According to Alicia Mae, CEO of the New Jersey-based wedding planning company IL Events, “the most common wedding dress code is formal attire, although many couples would prefer their guests to arrive in black-tie attire.”.

No matter how “casual” the dress code is, guests should never show up to a wedding in jeans, t-shirts, shorts, or sneakers. Dress formally as a sign of deference to the bride and groom. Even if the invitation specifies casual attire, Sabatino advises men to arrive in a suit and tie.

In particular, as dress codes become more and more ambiguous, deciding what to wear to a wedding can be downright difficult. Wedding guests should keep in mind a few basic fashion principles to avoid wardrobe faux pas, regardless of whether their invitation specifies formal, cocktail, festive, or casual attire. No matter what the dress code specifies, here are six things you should never wear to a wedding.

You attend a wedding to honor the couple, says Julie Sabatino, a wedding fashion stylist for The Stylish Bride. That should be evident in the way you look. “Make sure your group respects the occasion and is appropriate. Make the extra effort to ensure you are aware of appropriate and inappropriate attire for a particular ceremony. Do not wear anything that will distract from the bride, such as a sequined ball gown, a sparkling tiara, very high platform heels, or other accessories. Making a strong fashion statement at a wedding is inappropriate.

A full-length, formal gown that covers the ankles is required for women to attend. Another excellent choice is a professional pantsuit.

Even though the expression “I have nothing to wear” is fairly common, wedding season makes people shout it from the rooftops. You might attend at least one ceremony every weekend during the wedding season if you’re in your twenties or thirties. Some will be semi-formal, others will be casual, and dress codes are always a possibility. Here are our top dos and don’ts when deciding what to wear as a wedding guest.

Here is a quick list of factors to consider when selecting the ideal attire as a wedding guest, including everything from formal attire etiquette to the weather.

What the couple wants should always be taken into consideration before making any fashion choice, whether the occasion is black tie, semi-formal, casual, or even a costume party.

Cocktail attire at a yacht club is unquestionably dressier than daytime attire, even though it’s not as formal as black tie. The appropriate attire for an evening event is a full suit or dress slacks with a jacket and tie. Avoid bold colors or prints in favor of neutrals and muted tones. Cached.

You recently received an invitation to your very first yacht club party, which is fortunate for you. The most common response to this is “What on earth do I wear?”. We work with many yacht clubs to make sure their members always look sharp with personalized ties and scarves. Here is some of our fashion advice to help you master yacht club attire and put together a killer look.

There are some items that are simply unacceptable when it comes to yacht club attire, which can vary depending on the club and the time of the event. Always steer clear of the following:

Furthermore, resist the urge to put on an ascot or a jovial captain’s hat. Most people will perceive this as cliche rather than sporty. The best approach to take when creating your dockside outfit is to stick with classic styles, nautical colors, and clever layers. Additionally, you can purchase shirts and ties that are embellished with the club logo from many of the clubs’ shops.

While leaving a tip for the crew is customary, particularly on charter yachts, you shouldn’t anticipate receiving “stacks of cash” on every trip.

As a result of the industry-wide practice of leaving tips for the crew at the conclusion of a yacht vacation, the majority of crew members who work on charter yachts anticipate receiving a sizable gratuity on top of their regular pay.

In an interview with ET, Chief Stewardess Kate Chastain of Below Deck said, “I’ve had charters where we’re anchored in the BVIs, the guests have left, and were eating leftover lobster, drinking leftover Champagne, and counting our stacks of cash.” At that time, I felt quite unique. “.

Most daytime events typically require casual attire. Evening attire takes on a more formal feel. Name tags are encouraged to be worn by members.

In order to make your visit more pleasurable and comfortable for you and your visitors, we hope the following guidelines will be useful. You’ve never been to a yacht club before, but you’ve been invited to a meal or event there. Suddenly, I started to feel anxious. There are plenty of options for what to wear, and going to a yacht club doesn’t require you to spend a lot of money to blend in. You can really enjoy yourself and have a great time at the club if you follow the advice in this post on yacht club attire.

Check to see if the yacht club you’re going to has a dress code posted online before you even consider what to wear. The majority of clubs have different rules, though. For its dinners, the Nantucket Yacht Club, for instance, requests semi-formal attire. For its dinner dances and balls, men are expected to wear cocktail attire, which may include ties. A little more information is provided by the Hyannis Yacht Club. For lunch, it accepts fashionable casual attire, such as neat, well-kept jeans and shorts. Guests are expected to dress more formally for dinner by forgoing denim and donning sports coats. A club may have different dress codes for various areas. Casual clothing is typically permitted in bars and on outdoor decks.

Eliminating what you shouldn’t wear can occasionally be the simplest way to reduce your options for what to wear. This is only a partial list of how not to arrive at any yacht club unless you want to be turned away or get a lot of disapproving looks. All of the listed guidelines only apply to the club’s interior; rules for the beach and the dock may differ.

Wear proper footwear, such as closed-toe shoes or sturdy sandals. Although a lot of kids and adults enjoy wearing flip-flops, the yacht club setting might not be the best place for them. Although a bridle bit driver is always appropriate, the boat shoe style is the most popular option here.

33+ Yacht Party Attire Ideas: Setting Sail in Style

Julie Higgins

Sharing is caring!

When it comes to yacht party attire, striking the perfect balance between nautical elegance and casual sophistication is the key to making waves at any maritime soirée.

Imagine cruising on sparkling waters, the sun painting the sky in hues of orange and pink as you sip champagne and nibble on gourmet treats.

This is the essence of a yacht party—a luxurious haven where socialites and fashionistas alike come to unwind and celebrate.

While the captivating beauty of the sea and the allure of social mingling over Insta-worthy treats serve as irresistible opportunities to relax and snap some great social media content, your yacht party attire plays a pivotal role in how you experience it.

Choosing the right yacht party attire is not just a fashion statement; it’s a social grace.

Your outfit is your personal brand’s uniform, helping to form those all-important first impressions and showing who you are and what you represent before you even utter a word.

After all, celebrity fashion stylist Rachel Zoe once said: “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak!”

Whether you’re aiming for casual sophistication or an evening of glamour, your wardrobe choices can set the tone for the party and ensure that you’re comfortable, confident, and appropriately dressed for the occasion.

Understanding Yacht Party Attire

Yacht parties come in many shapes and styles, from daytime soirees to sunset cocktail events and even formal black-tie affairs.

Understanding the tone of the party you’re attending is essential in getting the dress code right and choosing the appropriate clothing for the occasion.

Types of Yacht Parties

  • Daytime Parties: Often casual and sporty, these are the events where you can revel in your love for pastels, shorts, and deck shoes – the stereotypical nautical style. A daytime yacht party typically has a relaxed and airy vibe, ideal for linen dresses, polo shirts, and flip-flops.
  • Sunset Parties: As the day turns to evening, the attire takes a more glamorous turn. Think cocktail dresses, tailored jackets, and smart-casual outfits that allow you to transition from day to night seamlessly.
  • Formal Events: These are the crème de la crème of yacht parties, where the dress code could range from cocktail attire to full black-tie. Men are expected to show up in tuxedos or at least a well-tailored suit, and women often wear elegant evening gowns or chic cocktail dresses.

Ambiance and Setting

The ambiance is directly influenced by the type of yacht party.

Daytime events are generally cheerful and relaxed, often with summer tunes playing in the background.

It’s almost like a scene from those cool summer music videos that you typically lust over on TV when you’re stuck at home wearing chunky knits in the middle of winter!

You might find people lounging in swimwear, cover-ups, or casual summer dresses. The evening parties, however, usually come with a hint of formality.

Dim lighting, jazz or classical music, and a more sophisticated crowd require an equally sophisticated wardrobe.

Understanding the ambiance and setting not only helps you choose your outfit but also prepares you for the social dynamics of the party.

Always remember, the right yacht party attire can help you navigate through any social sea with grace and confidence.

Daytime Yacht Party Attire

When the sun is shining and the yacht sets sail for a daytime soiree, think airy, relaxed, and comfortable, but never compromise on style.

The key to nailing daytime yacht party attire lies in lightweight fabrics like cotton, linen, and chambray.

These fabrics not only help to keep you cool but also make you appear effortlessly chic and elegant without looking too over the top.

Women can opt for breathable summer dresses or a stylish combination of tailored shorts with a sleeveless blouse.

Men might consider wearing cotton or linen shorts paired with a crisp polo shirt or even a short-sleeve button-down shirt.

Don’t shy away from nautical prints—think stripes, anchors, or even seashells—to give your outfit that quintessential maritime touch.

Comfortable shoes are a must; you’ll likely be walking around, socializing, or perhaps even dancing. Boat shoes, espadrilles, or sophisticated flip-flops are great choices that blend comfort with style.

Sunset and Evening Yacht Party Attire

As the day transitions into evening, yacht parties often adopt a more sophisticated and formal tone.

The relaxed shorts and flip-flops that served you well during the day are replaced by chic sundresses, elegant jumpsuits, and smart separates like tailored pants and silk blouses.

Fabrics like silk, satin, or lightweight wool are the perfect way to cover-up in the evening when enjoying watching golden hour turn to sunsets over the sea.

These kinds of fabrics also offer a luxurious touch and are ideal for travel too.

For men, a well-fitted blazer can transform a casual daytime look into a smart evening ensemble when paired with dark jeans or tailored pants.

It’s always a good idea to bring along a stylish layer piece for evening parties, as temperatures can drop quite significantly after sunset.

Women can opt for a lightweight pashmina shawl or a fashionable jacket, while men might consider a lightweight sweater or casual sports jacket.

The key is to choose garments that are easily removable yet blend seamlessly with your outfit, keeping you comfortable without sacrificing style.

Try to avoid tight-fitting sweaters that can mess up your hairdo or makeup or are generally just uncomfortable and tricky to pull on and off over your head.

Nautical Elements and Color Palette

In the world of yacht parties, the nautical fashion trend is a timeless classic.

You know the one!

Clean, bold navy stripes across a crisp white canvas.

These patterns are usually worn on t-shirts, dresses or shirts and teamed with white shorts or trousers and light canvas shoes.

The palette is usually dominated by navy, white, and accents of red or gold.

These colors not only evoke the maritime spirit but also offer a touch of elegance and simplicity.

Incorporating these shades into your outfit, whether through a navy-blue blazer or a white linen dress, can make a subtle yet striking impact.

Maritime-inspired accessories can serve as the finishing touch. Think anchor-shaped pendants, sailor knots, or even rope belts.

Get creative with nautical-inspired accessories and have fun! What better place to lose yourself in this trend than when dressing for a yacht party at sea!

These little details can provide that extra layer of authenticity and sophistication to your yacht party looks, making you appear not just fashionable but also in tune with the sea-loving setting.

Footwear Choices for Yacht Parties

Your choice of footwear can greatly influence your overall experience at a yacht party.

While you might be tempted to sport those killer heels or brand-new leather loafers, comfort should be your primary concern.

Espadrilles offer a chic yet comfortable solution, providing a cushiony base and ample style.

Boat shoes are another excellent choice, especially for men, as they offer good grip and a timeless look.

Sandals, preferably with a back strap, can also work well, offering both comfort and ease of movement.

While high heels might look glamorous, they can be a recipe for disaster on a boat.

Not only are they uncomfortable when worn for long periods of time, but they also pose a safety risk too, particularly during bouts of turbulence from rough tides or when you’re moving around on a deck that can become slippery from overlapping waves.

When it comes to yacht parties, style should never come at the cost of safety or comfort.

This is your ideal opportunity to dress up and look glamorous minus the heels so why not make the most of it!

Accessorizing for Yacht Glamour

The right accessories can significantly elevate your daytime yacht attire.  When it comes to elevating your yacht party outfit , accessories play a crucial role.

The right choice of accessories can add that final touch of glamour, converting a good outfit into an extraordinary one.

Sunglasses are a must, not just as a style statement but also for eye protection. Choose a pair that complements the shape of your face and the vibe of your outfit.

You typically can’t go wrong with classic styles in black, tortoiseshell or metal-rimmed aviators.

For daytime events, statement sunglasses are not just practical for shielding your eyes from the sun; they’re also a cornerstone of yacht chic.

Whether it’s a classic aviator, a retro cat-eye, or an oversized pair, the style you choose can speak volumes.

Hats are another accessory that serves dual purposes: function and fashion.

A wide-brimmed hat can protect you from direct sun exposure while adding a hint of sophistication to your look.

Wide-brim sun hats or casual baseball caps can add flair while offering the practical benefit of shielding you from the sun.

Similarly, a well-chosen piece of elegant jewelry—perhaps a pearl necklace or a set of gold bangles—can light up your outfit in the evening.

Don’t overlook functional accessories like a chic sunhat for daytime or a stylish clutch for the evening.

These items can hold your essentials while complementing your ensemble.

A light scarf or bandana is another versatile accessory, offering a pop of color and serving as a functional piece to keep your hairstyle and patience intact against the occasional gust of wind.

Remember, accessories are your chance to inject personality into your outfit.

Choose pieces that resonate with your style but also match the event’s theme.

The right balance between practicality and flair can set you apart in the most sophisticated manner.

Navigating Formal Yacht Party Attire

Formal yacht parties take the concept of nautical elegance to the next level.

Dress codes can range from cocktail attire to black-tie, which means a step up from your regular party wardrobe.

Ladies can opt for elegant cocktail dresses that exude sophistication.

Fabrics like silk, chiffon, or lace add a luxurious touch that fits the high-end setting.

If the event is black-tie, an evening gown is more appropriate, preferably in understated colors like black, navy, or metallic shades.

When choosing an evening dress, try to remember that “less is more” and we don’t mean the amount of material!

Be mindful of not picking a style that’s overly revealing and showing off too much cleavage.

Not only is flashing the skin not deemed appropriate in this type of formal setting, you also run the risk of experiencing a potentially embarrassing wardrobe malfunction when onboard.

For men, a tailored suit can often suffice for a cocktail dress code.

However, for black-tie events, a tuxedo becomes almost imperative. Look for high-quality materials and a fit that complements your body shape.

Remember, a well-tailored suit or tuxedo not only looks good but also boosts your confidence, enhancing your overall experience at the party.

Packing Essentials and Preparation

Preparing for a yacht party involves more than just choosing an outfit. The trick lies in packing smartly to cover all scenarios.

Your checklist should include not just your main outfit but also layering options, swimwear, and a change of clothes if the party extends into the late hours.

Don’t forget essential accessories like sunglasses, hats, and perhaps even a light scarf or shawl for cooler temperatures.

Always consider the weather forecast and the possibility of water activities when packing.

Ziplock bags can be handy for protecting your phone and other essentials from water damage.

Pack your outfits in garment bags to keep them in good condition and use shoe bags for your footwear to maintain their shape and cleanliness.

Choosing the perfect yacht party attire can feel overwhelming, but it’s all about balancing style with comfort and appropriateness for the occasion.

Whether it’s a casual daytime event or a swanky evening soiree, your outfit sets the tone for your experience.

Never underestimate the power of well-chosen accessories or the importance of appropriate grooming and skincare.

Embrace your personal style but be respectful of the event’s vibe and dress code.

After all, yacht parties are an embodiment of fashion, luxury, and the majestic backdrop of the sea.

If you’re lucky enough to get an invitation to a cool summer yacht party then make sure you revert back to these tips to help you choose the right clothing and accessories for a thoroughly successful and enjoyable boat party experience.

What to Wear to a Yacht Party – Your Dress Code Guide!

formal yacht club attire

Dressing for a boat party is different than any other kind of event. While you have good times, you need to look great and most importantly, feel comfortable in your clothing. Also, you need to take some safety precautions into consideration as boats have unpredictable movements. After all, you want to have an exceptional time! Most yacht events take place in the summer, so you need to dress accordingly to the weather. What will be your event about? A Day party? A night party? In this article, you will find out exactly what to wear to a yacht party.

Table of Contents

Most parties are held during the day. You will probably spend most of your time enjoying dancing on the deck with a cocktail in your hand or swimming in the water, so you need an attire comfortable to wear and easy to pull on/off!

  • Choose a swimsuit or a bikini to wear under your clothes. Make sure to pick a color that suits your attire.
  • A flowy dress, short skirt, airy beach pants, or a short over your swimsuit will be perfect for this kind of party. You can also match them with a summary layer or a loose blouse.
  • As for the shoes, flat sandals with soft soles will get you out of trouble. High heels are an absolute no-no as they are not safe on a boat and can scratch the deck.

Accessories

  • You should be wearing sunglasses during the day, but not just any, you need polarized sunglasses to protect 100% your eyes from the UV rays of the sun
  • Try to store your stuff like sunglasses, makeup, and hair clips in a waterproof handbag. It could be useful if it gets wet!
  • Makeup Use only waterproof makeup during the day
  • Opt for a tight swimsuit if you plan to wear it under your cloth. Otherwise, there are stylish good looking swimwears that look more like dress shorts, which you can match with loose shirts and a light jacket
  • The most appropriate clothes for men are loose pants, boating shorts , and jean shorts assorted with light shirts, or polo and a loose vest.
  • Avoid flip-flops and opt for nonmarking boating shoes , like Sperry. These come in a wide variety of styles to choose from and will match any outfit. With these shoes, you can walk in complete tranquility without worrying about hurting your feet or slipping on the wet deck.
  • Opt only for a waterproof watch if you intend to wear one. You don’t want to bother taking it off, and on each time you go for a swim.
  • As mentioned for women above, the same concept applies to men. A good pair of polarized sunglasses is a must!

Night Party

In the evening, you can still wear casual clothes but a bit more dressy. The thin, soft, and flowy textile is more appropriate for night parties. Bring a light jacket with you. It gets cooler in the evening.

  • Princess waist dresses, skirt with flounces, loose pants assorted with dressy tops are the perfect choices. A chic option will be to wear a color-coordinated wrap or a jacket. A long dress harmonized with a nice pair of chandelier earrings is a great option if you opt to dress chicly
  • Here, again, avoid high heels. Flats and low-heeled sandals will be perfect and will suit any outfit.
  • Men should wear comfortable pants with a dress shirt or even a polo, and a light jacket on top.
  • I will say it again, the best shoes to wear on a boat is Sperry, but hey, this is your party, you can pick any other type of boat shoes as long as they are non-marking.
  • Girls, even if high heels elongate your legs and make you more attractive. It is preferable to avoid wearing them on a boat. Opt for boating shoes !
  • Mosquitoes love humidity, especially in the late afternoon. You should bring a repellent with you. You Never know.
  • Try to use only waterproof accessories
  • The sun beat down during the day, bring sunscreen and wear long sleeves to protect you from the sun
  • You can wear long dresses but not too long to avoid tripping.
  • If you are unsure about the type of party, ask the person that organizes the event on the yacht what is and not appropriate.
  • It’s easy to get dehydrated on a yacht because you don’t feel the sun as you are most of the time in the water or on the deck and at sea, there are always winds. PS, wear a hat and drink a lot of water!

Final Words!

Now that you know how to dress for a day and night party on a yacht, all you need to do is have a good time!

8 thoughts on “What to Wear to a Yacht Party – Your Dress Code Guide!”

I have a yacht party to go to and I really needed this guide to make sure that I will take whatever I need. It is really easy to forget a few things and later regret once you reach the party. However, in the evening yacht parties, is it okay to wear heels?

Oh, that’s great, I am sure you’ll have fun!

Yes, I agree with you, it is easy to forget things. This is why it is important to write down what you need before you go:) Once you are on the boat, you cannot go back unless you live nearby.

You cannot wear high heels on a boat, there are few reasons to this. It is not comfortable, not safety and it can damage the deck:) You wouldn’t want this happen.

Thank you for the comment and wish you to have unforgettable moments on the yacht party!

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Daniella, I really like that you divided your article into parts like what to wear in the day or in night! And that you pay attention to both men and women is great, too! often, there are only guides for women. Keep going on as active as you are! Your website is catchy!

Thank you for the kind comment, I really appreciate:) Whats women without men and whats men without women? We can’t live without each other:), Have a wonderful day!

I have been on a yacht for a dinner party sailing in heels! It was a bit troublesome especially going up and down stairs.

Is this post geared toward Northeast US or somewhere else in the world? Here in Florida, it is absolutely okay to wear flip flops to a day yacht party as long as they aren’t cheap! Sperry’s or other boat shoes are acceptable at night for men if the rest of the outfit is semi-casual.

Thank you for the comment:)

Yes, this article concerns everyone. No matter the country. Of course, you can wear flip flops , you can even go barefoot if you wish to, but the risk of hurting your feet or slipping on the deck is much higher. Most charter companies require wearing boat shoes because if something happens and someone didn’t follow the guideline, then the company or the owner of the boat will not be covered by their assurance.

However, Sperry’ shoes are the most recommended on boats as they are comfortable and stylish.

But, again, as long as it is non-marking shoes, you are good to go!

I like how you said that the most appropriate clothes for men are loose pants. My wife and I are planning to go on a trip and we have no idea what to wear. I will definitely share this article with my wife to give her ideas of what to wear in case we go to a boat party.

Hi Dereck, This would be a great idea! I am sure your wife will find something nice to wear:) Thank you for the comment and wish you a lovely day!

What Should I Wear to a Yacht Party?

The date is set, and your RSVP is confirmed. And you’ve likely spread the word that you’ll soon be attending a party on a yacht in Marina del Rey (because why wouldn’t you?).

But the question still remains…What do you wear?

At FantaSea Yachts, we often hear this from clients hosting an event aboard one of our luxury yachts. Our answer is simple – it depends on the party and the time of day. We’ve compiled a few tips to jumpstart your yacht party inspo board.

What do I wear to a daytime yacht event?

When the sun is out, it’s a great time to play on the water. We’ve planned countless celebrations – brunches, lunchtime events, and casual cruises – for different groups during the day. All guest attire tends to be similar. Breezy. Light. Think linen pants or jackets, flowing dresses, polo or oxford shirts… relaxed but stylish. This is your chance to dress differently than your normal attire; leave the jeans, t-shirts, leggings, and board shorts at home, and impress your fellow partygoers with a well-put-together outfit. It never hurts to sport a nautical-themed look (navy stripes and gold accents, included) to pay homage to the setting. Don’t think of it as gimmicky – it’s part of the fun! If you’re looking for nautical inspiration, check out this article, 12 Ultra Cute Ways to Wear Nautical-Inspired Clothes.

For daytime yacht parties, we recommend flat shoes, strappy sandals, low wedges for the ladies, and a pair of classic loafers for the gentlemen.

What do I wear to a nighttime yacht party?

Whether it’s a boat wedding , milestone bash , or company party , nighttime yacht parties are always magical. From twinkling lights to starry skies, the moment you step onto one of our rooftop sky decks prepared to be WOWED. And that in itself is more than enough reason to dress up extra special.

Nighttime parties are great for cocktail dresses and semi-formal attire. Ladies, you don’t want to wear anything too long to avoid someone stepping on your dress or your shoe getting caught on the fabric. Go for comfortable glamor. If you opt for a cocktail dress, make sure the length is appropriate. Have fun accessorizing with statement jewelry and your favorite clutch or small shoulder bag (avoid a large tote or purse for an ultra-chic look).

For men, simplicity is the name of the game. Unless the event calls for formal attire, steer away from a tuxedo. Top options include a classic suit, dress slacks with a nice blazer and tie, or dress slacks with a sports coat and tie. Not sure what the difference is between a suit jacket, blazer, and sports coat? This Jos.A.Bank article breaks it down .

Of course, if your celebration is a yacht wedding , that will bring into account a more specific set of dressing dos and don’ts. Often formal attire will be the norm, but you should always ask your friends who are hosting their wedding on a yacht to see if the ceremony and reception is formal or casual.

Similarly, if the affair is a birthday yacht rental , then check with the hosts to learn if they are planning a unique theme that would require a specific fashion statement.

What should I always take to a celebration on a  yacht?

There are two stand-out answers to this question: A light sweater or jacket (it’s always cooler on the water), and your favorite pair of sunglasses. Other considerations include sunscreen, a fashionable hat, hair ties (in case it’s too breezy), and lip balm or chapstick. People often ask if motion sickness medication is needed. Our answer is no. The great thing about our cruises is that we stay in the Marina del Rey harbor and don’t go past the breakwater. This eliminates any wave activity (there are NO waves), which makes for an easy, smooth ride. There is virtually no risk of seasickness or motion sickness cruising these calm waters.

What not to wear to a yacht party?

This may seem obvious, but high heels or stilettos are probably the least popular accessory on ANY yacht cruise – day OR night. We also recommended avoiding super casual flip-flops as the look can appear sloppy.

FAQ for Yacht Party Attire Essentials

1. what essentials should i bring to a yacht party.

Always bring a light sweater or jacket, as it tends to be cooler on the water, and your favorite sunglasses. Other useful items include sunscreen, a fashionable hat, hair ties, and lip balm. Motion sickness medication is generally not needed for our smooth Marina del Rey harbor cruises, which experience no wave activity

2. Are there any specific accessories I should bring to a yacht party?

Yes, essential accessories for a yacht party include a light sweater or jacket, as it can be cooler on the water, and sunglasses. Additionally, consider bringing sunscreen, a fashionable hat, hair ties, and lip balm. Avoid large bags; a small clutch or shoulder bag is ideal.

3. What types of shoes are appropriate for a yacht party?

For yacht parties, choose flat shoes, strappy sandals, or low wedges for women, and classic loafers for men. Avoid high heels or stilettos, as they are impractical on a yacht, and steer clear of casual flip-flops for a more polished look.

What to Wear to a Yacht Wedding? [yacht club wedding attire]

Dressing for a yacht wedding can be both fun and challenging at the same time. On one hand, you have the opportunity to wear something unique and on the other hand, there are some definite do’s and don’ts when it comes to dressing for a yacht wedding. In this post, we’ll take a look at what to wear on land and what to bring with you when you’re cruising on the high seas!

Yacht Club Wedding Attire

Consider the time of year, weather, and location.

When choosing what to wear to a yacht wedding, it’s important to consider the time of year, weather, and location. If the wedding is taking place in the summertime, you can wear lighter fabrics like cotton or linen. However, if the wedding is taking place in the fall or winter, you’ll want to opt for something a little warmer like wool or cashmere.

The weather will play a part in determining what you’ll wear to the wedding too. It can get very hot outside during the summer months, so something breezy would be appropriate. However, if it’s during the wintertime and there’s snow on the ground, opt for something heavy like down instead.

The location of the wedding is also important to consider. If the yacht is docked in a busy city, you’ll want to dress accordingly. However, if the yacht is sailing in open water, you can dress more casually.

Accessories

When it comes to accessories, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind. First, you’ll want to avoid wearing accessories that are too casual. This look will clash with the occasion’s dress code, so save your beach cover-up for another day.

Instead, opt for necklaces and earrings that are suitable for formal occasions. You can also wear bracelets if there aren’t any stipulations regarding visible body jewelry.

As for shoes, you’ll want to choose something dressy and elegant. If the wedding is taking place on land, you can wear heels. However, if the wedding is taking place on a yacht, it might be better to wear flats so you don’t have to worry about slipping and falling.

Choose a color scheme that matches your personality

When it comes to choosing a color scheme, you’ll want to think about your personality. If you’re the type of person who loves to stand out, you can choose a bold color like red or green. However, if you prefer to stick to neutrals, black, white , and gray are always safe choices.

No matter what color you choose to wear, you’ll want to make sure your outfit coordinates with the rest of the bridal party. If there’s a theme, try wearing colors that match it. For example, if the wedding has a nautical theme, blue and white would be appropriate.

Dress for comfort - this is a long day!

A yacht wedding can be a lot of fun, but it’s also a long day. You’ll want to dress for comfort, so choose something you’ll feel good in all day long. That might mean a flowy dress for women or a comfortable suit for men.

Choose a color that pops

Since you’ll be spending most of the day outside, it’s a good idea to choose a color that pops. This will make you stand out against the background of the ocean and the yachts. Bold colors like red, orange and yellow are perfect dresses for this type of wedding .

Be mindful of what you wear to avoid spills on your clothes or shoes

This seems like a really obvious tip, but the best way to keep your clothes from getting ruined is by simply dressing appropriately.

Don’t wear anything you particularly love if someone spills champagne on it, you will not be pleased! We recommend sticking to neutrals rather than going for bold colors or patterns that may easily pick up dirt or food stains. It’s the unfortunate truth that the risk of spills is high at a yacht wedding, so always dress accordingly.

But also keep in mind what you will be standing on

Wedding boats are usually on the smaller side, so they can get crowded quickly. Don’t wear heels that you can’t walk or stand in and watch where you step not only will you run the risk of falling, but for other reasons, we’ll discuss below.

Wear closed-toed shoes

You may find yourself standing on a boat deck all night long without ever getting into the water (and that’s great!), but there is always a possibility that your feet could get wet.

Plus, there’s the chance you’ll be walking on slippery surfaces or in areas where there may be a lot of seaweed both of which are easier navigated with closed-toe shoes.

If you’re not into the idea of wearing anything other than your favorite pair of sandals, then go for it but you might want to bring a backup pair of shoes (and socks!) just in case.

Attending A Boat Or Yacht Party? Try One Of These 8 Chic Outfits

If you have no idea what to wear to a boat or yacht party, check out this helpful guide for the best outfit ideas and tips on dress code.

White boating outfit with a white cut-out dress a cardigan and a Loewe sun hat

If you tend to vacation around coastal towns, chances are that you will be invited to a boat party one weekend or another. Whether it’s a luxurious yacht soiree, a casual boat gathering, or a glamorous sailing affair, you’re in for a great time. But as you embark on this nautical adventure, one question looms large: What should you wear?

Dressing appropriately for such events requires a delicate balance between comfort, functionality, and, perhaps most importantly, style. With the shimmering sea as your backdrop, you want to look effortlessly chic without trying too hard. To help you navigate your boat or yacht party in style, we have curated this guide on what to wear to a boat or yacht party, ensuring you can make a grand entrance and set sail in style.

Chic Boat Party Outfits

1. linen, cotton and tencel dresses.

Image Not Found

We highly recommend wearing lightweight clothes made from natural fibers like linen, tencel and cotton for your boat or yacht day trip. All of them are highly breathable, allowing air circulation and preventing you from feeling overheated in the sun or during energetic activities onboard.

In addition to this, they have great moisture-wicking properties, which means that any sweat or water on your clothes quickly evaporates, keeping you cool and dry.

While you can opt for any colors you want, light colors are especially popular in the heat of the sun, as well as nautical colors like light blue and navy, which echo the color scheme of open waters around you.

8. Figure-Hugging Long Dresses

Pink figure-hugging maxi dress

For ultimate elegance, go for a figure-embracing maxi dress. Not only are they more practical than sorter dresses that may get down by the wind, but they’re also more glamorous as you glide along the deck.

While a voluminous flowy dress will look amazing blowing in the wind, it can get annoying very quickly. For daytime affairs, opt for a casual rib-knit dress, and for fancier yacht parties or black tie events, a long cocktail dress with more striking designs.

Other Essentials To Bring To A Boat Party

1. your swimsuit.

Firstly, it’s not a boat party without swimming! Don’t forget to bring your favorite bathing suit with you.

2. Suncream

It also pays to protect your skin from the sun, so pack your sunblock in your bag. A good sunblock should be at least SPF 30, since SPF 30 can block about 97% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. Make sure to reapply your suncream every 2 hours you spend in the sun for optimal protection.

3. Protective Accessories

It goes without saying, but don’t attend a boat party without a good pair of sunglasses . The sun is especially strong in the open sea as it reflects off of water, and you don’t want to spend your day squinting.

In addition to sunglasses, also consider bringing a stylish hat that protects your face and scalp. Whether you opt for a wide-brimmed hat, a floppy sun hat, a straw hat or a sporty cap, it serves as a barrier against the sun, reducing the risk of sunburn and discomfort.

4. Beach Towel

Some yachts and bigger boats will be equipped with beach towels for guests, but this is not a given. If you think you’ll be going in for a dip, pack a beach towel in your beach tote before you set off.

Now that we’ve gone over some of the best things to wear for yacht and boat parties, let’s also take a look at clothing to avoid.

What Not To Wear To A Boat Party

How you dress for a boat party is very different to what you wear on land. What looks good in a rooftop bar might not be appropriate for a yacht, so keep these things in mind when putting together your outfit:

1. High heels

Stilettos with a sharp heel are a bit of a hazard on a moving boat; not only are you less stable when wearing them, the heel itself can also get stuck in gaps or grates on the deck, which can damage your shoes.

To be on the safe side, opt for comfortable flat sandals, boat shoes, or espadrilles, or take your shoes off entirely!

If you’re attending a dressy occasion in the evening, consider wearing platform wedges that look polished but are easy to walk in.

2. Fabrics That Make You Sweat

Avoid fibers and materials like acrylic, polyester, denim, and spandex that will make you sweat, and silk, which has moisture-wicking properties, but will not hide sweat stains.

Instead, opt for breathable fibers like cotton, linen, rayon, viscose, jersey, chambray and tencel, especially if you’re attending a boat party during the daytime.

3. Skin Tight clothing (If you’re swimming)

If you know that you’ll be swimming, avoid wearing tight clothing, as there’s nothing more uncomfortable than having to put your tight clothes back on when you have wet skin. Also, what looks good dry might not look as great when it’s all soaked in water and sticking to your skin.

Opt for clothes that are loose enough that they won’t cling to you and that allow the wind’s breeze to flow through them. Alternatively, you can always bring a change of clothes if you have a tight outfit that you definitely want to wear on your boat ride.

Yacht Club Dress Code

Just wondering if anyone can advise what the dress code is like in the Yacht Club on MSC

Does it follow the suggested dress code of the rest of the ship or does it have a separate dress code?

Also, is the dress code on MSC still 'suggested'

The dress code on all MSC ships is advisory and is published in the daily programme. The dress code is the same throughout the ship.

The YC is not a prison you are allowed to escape and mingle with "steerage". So no worries on the dress code. Do as you want

The dress code follows the rest of the ship, however on Formal Nights the people in YC tend to dress more formally (i.e. tux for men). I felt a bit underdressed the on our first cruise in YC so the next one I took evening wear with me. However this was on European and TA cruises, I suspect that on Divina out of Miami it may be more relaxed. I think evening wear is more of a European thing?? Even so, it's nice to dressed up for these occasions.

See this thread:- http://boards.cruisecritic.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2430722

Danbee46

My experience in the YC on formal nights is somewhat different. We have sailed there three times and I haven't seen much difference in what men wear there compared to the rest of the ship. There were only a couple of tuxes, many suits and ties, some with suits and/sport jackets with open collared shirts and one or two men with jeans.

Yes, as I said, probably a more casual attitude on U.S. based cruises. Maybe the Divina should get it's own forum as it seems to differ from the other MSC ships???????

Not a bad idea. I would also like to see the Yacht Club get it's own forum. People's thoughts and reviews of the YC often differ greatly than those of the rest of the ship.

Thanks for all your comments it's good to understand. Having sailed with Royal over the last 4 years and not MSC I'm use to the very relaxed dress code on Royal

Your observation of dress 'code' in the Yacht Club tracks right along with ours.

We might have been on the same two Divina cruises this year. :)

Seperate forum for YC sounds like a great idea.

The dress in the Yacht Club whether on casual or gala evenings is no different from the rest of the ship. Jeans are fine on casual nights and suits or sport jackets the norm for the gala occasions. True formal wear is actually seen less in Yacht Club from what I saw on my two YC cruises.

Just got off the Divina this morning and I would second this post. On our Gala night's, the majority on men were in suits or sports jackets with a couple tux's and a couple of men wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

I realize I'm reactivating a year-old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one when much of this concern has been addressed. However, a part that doesn't seem to get much attention: What do women and men who book Yacht Club cabins/suites wear during the day while in the Yacht Club? For men, are dress shorts and golf shirts appropriate? Are dress shorts and t-shirts okay? I've seen a number of photos in which men are wearing slacks and button-down shirts. While I certainly don't want to stand out for under-dressing, I'd hate to make myself conspicuous by over-dressing. Plus, I'll be on vacation, so a break from a daytime suit-and-tie will be great!

Also, our cabin is 15021. How will we get up to The One pool deck? Is there an elevator, or will we be taking stairs from the Yacht Club? Is it okay to pass through the Club wearing swim trunks and a t-shirt on the way to the pool?

Really no different from the rest of the ship. Shorts and T shirts are fine for daytime.

From your cabin to the One Pool Deck is easy peasy, walk down the hall and just outside of the Concierge is the elevator up to One Pool (or down to the Spa). Only goes from Deck 14 to Deck 18 for Yacht Club passengers.

It's the same but you don't have to follow it.

I wholeheartedly agree. Why take up the time of others looking for info. It should be a sub-category.

CruisingFox27

DH wore sorts and t shirts during the day. If you are sailing from Miami the dress standard is considerably more casual, even in the evenings than on European sailings.

We have a 7-day cruise on the Seaside leaving next Saturday, 13 April 2019, and we're staying in the YC. I really don't want to pack anything formal (sport coats, ties, etc.) Is it really a necessity on a Caribbean cruise?  We can go to specialty restaurants on formal nights without formal attire I assume. The dress code would apply only to main dining rooms whether in YC on main part of ship. Correct me if I'm wrong. TIA

No, you do not need formal clothes in the YC or any place else for that matter. Based on my experience in the YC last December, I did not feel out of place wearing the same type of clothes any of seven nights. I did take a tie just encase we decided to get our picture taken. I wore it the last formal night, at least it did not take much room to pack.

Agree,,,, If you dress smart casual... you will blend right in with the majority of YC diners. On our cruise last year...we saw a man walk in on 2 different nights in shorts!!! So literally no dress code enforcement.

Shorts - really? The audacity of some people. I am truly mortified by the thought of seeing someone in shorts in a dining room.

Beamafar

Depends on the ship, the asst m'D and the itinerary - I've seen men turned away when wearing shorts.  DH was refused entry to TSL last year on Splendida when wearing shorts - it was only shortly after 6pm!

Beam...I'm sure this is more of a European /med cruise which tend to be more formal. Caribbean cruises you can pretty much dictate what you want to wear. . I have found this on all lines I've cruised stateside

Actually, it was a repositioning cruise where temperatures were hotter than average Caribbean ones.

I did advise that it  "depends on itinerary", in fairness, IC.

I'm not disagreeing.... Sadly it is under control of the cruiseline..but most dining room staff tend to ignore and not enforce questionable attire.

1 hour ago, lcpagejr said: Beam...I'm sure this is more of a European /med cruise which tend to be more formal. Caribbean cruises you can pretty much dictate what you want to wear. . I have found this on all lines I've cruised stateside

On our recent Caribbean in Preziosa YC we were very surprised at the formality of dinner dressing on both Elegant nights. Many, probably about 25%, men wore Tuxedos and another 25% were in suits. Most of the remainder, like me, wore long sleeve shirts with dress trousers. The ladies, as ever, at least complemented their partners in level of dressing and often exceeded. Not a single guest in the YC restaurant 'dressed down' on any night....by that I mean the minimum was a collared short sleeve shirt, and chinos or equivalent.

OK, it wasn't 'stateside' as such because the cruise commenced and ended in Barbados and remained in the Caribbean throughout. The mix of passengers was largely European, many British (500 passengers) and a smaller number of Americans.

We were just on and the norm was slacks and shirt for men and dress or slacks for women.  Fancy nights people spruced it up a bit.  Saw one tux and the guy was cranked with pictures of people in shorts at dinner.  Imo shorts not appropriate but I'm not going to get cranked about it.  I was just happy Octomom wasn't on letting her kids run around dining room during dinner.

What To Wear To A Yacht Club Wedding?

For a nighttime wedding at a yacht club, cocktail attire is dressier than daytime attire, but not as formal as black tie. The appropriate attire for an evening event is a full suit or dress. While there are some unique options to wear, there are certain do’s and don’ts when it comes to dressing for a yacht wedding.

Access and logistics are crucial for setting the stage for a yacht wedding. The dress code for a beach wedding, cruise wedding, opening day, casual attire for men, and cocktail attire dress code are all important factors to consider. For a formal yacht wedding, dress slacks with a jacket and tie or a full suit are both appropriate options. Choose neutrals and subdued tones over bright colors or prints. Men should accessorize with a black leather belt and matching shoes.

For a casual yacht dinner, consider wearing a chic maxi dress in flowing fabric, a floor-length gown or cocktail dress with statement jewelry and heels, or a tuxedo with a bow tie and dress shoes. However, short dresses, crop tops, or skirts that are too casual for the occasion may be inappropriate.

Another important aspect of attending a yacht party is the stunning view of the beautiful blue waters of Dubai. If the wedding is taking place in summertime, lighter fabrics like cotton or linen can be worn. However, if the wedding is taking place in winter, the dress code is strict, with a black tailcoat, white vest, formal white shirt, bowtie, and gloves. Cocktail attire leans towards more casual.

Cocktail Attire for Men.

Cocktail Attire for Women. Cocktail dresses should be knee-length or midi-length in a solid or very subtle print. If you are having a tough time finding the right color, the quintessential “little black dress” is always a smart choice. Another popular trend for evening events is a formal womens pant suit. When it comes to accessorizing, less is more. Choose a single statement piece of jewelry rather than a multitude of pieces and opt for a clutch instead of a shoulder bag. Heels, dressy sandals, and ballet flats are all acceptable shoe options.

What is the leader of a yacht club called?

Other Traditions. Commodore – The commodore of a yacht club is addressed in formal and also most informal situations as “Commodore.” The title “Commodore” is also used for all past commodores. This form of address for both current and past commodores is in recognition of the time and effort it takes to become commodore of a yacht club: “Once a commodore, always a commodore.” The word “commodore” comes from the Dutch word komadeur. It was adopted by the British Navy to denote the officer temporarily in command of a squadron or fleet. At one time, the United States Navy used the term to denote a one-star officer above the rank of captain but below the rank of rear admiral. But the Navy abolished that rank. Today, the word is used to designate the chief officer of a yacht club. The commodore commands the fleet but does not necessarily lead it because leading the fleet is only one part of the operation of a yacht club.

Corinthian – This word simply means “amateur yachtsman.” For this reason it is often found in the title of some yacht clubs, e.g. Texas Corinthian Yacht Club. It also has a connotation of sportsmanship because yacht racing involves a high degree of integrity in following the yacht racing rules.

Some Interesting History. What is a yacht? The word “yacht” is derived from the 16th century Dutch word jagh that later become jacht. The word is short for jacht-schiff, which a 1559 dictionary defined as a swift vessel of war, commerce or pleasure. It is commonly accepted that a yacht is any boat, other than one propelled by oars or paddles that is used for pleasure. For many people, the word has a connotation of luxury or large size but in fact it is the purpose of the boat that determines it is a yacht. For sailboats, Yacht Racing Rules (Now called the Racing Rules of Sailing) apply equally to an eight-foot Optimist and the largest ocean racer.

Can you wear black to a beach wedding as a guest?

Can you wear black to a beach wedding as a guest?

Consider fabric and length. Not all black dresses are the same, says New York-based bridal stylist Jackie Avrumson. You can wear black anywhere, but it depends on how it’s done. Black is the most flattering color for women. Black absorbs heat, so wear a light fabric to a beach wedding. If you’re going to a less formal event and your go-to color is black, check the length and cut of the dress. Black is chic, but sometimes it’s overdressed. The length and fabric should be appropriate for the time of year and location. Keep it festive. Black is practical, but not for weddings. If you can still go to the office or an interview in your dress, it’s time to pick another one, says Avrumson. You can wear a long or short black dress to a wedding.

Think about tradition. In some cultures, black is less common for weddings. Some cultures, like Indian and Chinese, avoid black because it’s associated with mourning. If you’re attending a traditional wedding, think about how you’ll be seen, says Avrumson. If you wear black to an event where it’s not traditional, add color with accessories.
