In addition to producing the luxury SonShip motor yachts West Bay is known for, West Bay Shipyards provides yacht repairs, yacht servicing and refitting, and any services needed to make a vessel ready for ocean passage. Ben Vermeulen initially built hundreds of work boats ranging from rugged, high-speed police patrol boats to commercial fishing boats and rapidly gained a reputation for fine craftsmanship and business ethics of hardwork and honesty. After attaining success with its strong and durable, high-quality commercial vessels, West Bay began expanding into the luxury recreational cruising market, utilizing the latest construction techniques and cutting-edge materials to build the first model, the West Bay 4500 Pilothouse in 1985, followed by 65ft and 72ft motor yachts.

West Bay launched the first West Bay 58 in 1991. Designed by Ben Vermeulen, naval architect Howard Appolonio, and yacht stylist Glade Johnson, the 58 quickly became West Bay’s most popular motor yacht. It featured sleek, attractive exterior lines with the rock-solid build, seaworthiness, and all the features expected of a great Northwest cruising boat—walk-around decks protected by hefty rails, cockpit/aft deck large enough for sportfishing or outdoor dining, spacious flybridge with panoramic 360-degree view, and spacious raised pilothouse with large windows. Constructed with state-of-the-art materials for weight-reduction and hull-strengthening, hull pockets to protect the props, and quiet underwater exhaust. The interior featured expertly crafted joinery of fine hardwoods, spacious saloon, raised galley, two large staterooms, plus a smaller stateroom, and two heads. From 1991 to 2002 timeframe, West Bay produced more than 60 of the 58 model, continually updating them with amenities and more.

As one of Canada’s largest boat builders, West Bay Marine has a 110ft tri-deck SonShip under construction designed by Greg Marshall, the award-winning Canadian naval architect based in British Columbia. The 2020 SonShip 110 features elegant softer lines with graceful curves; window corners are rounded with softer angles, a departure from West Bay’s characteristic straighter lines and angular windows. All West Bay yachts feature a sleek profile; never boxy or ungainly. The main deck of the SonShip 110 extends forward, nearly to the bow to accommodate an on-deck full beam master stateroom. The SonShip 110 features a spacious enclosed Sky Lounge with Sky Lounge deck area and a Sun Bridge with a 6-person hot tub.

The boat has been meticulously maintained by a knowledgeable owner-operator, with new upgrades throughout. All annual maintenance on mechanical equipment has been followed. She also comes with a 2021 Zodiac Tender with a 60-hp Mercury outboard.

The Westbay 58 is a three-stateroom, raised pilothouse motor yacht with a cockpit and flybridge and has one of the finest interior arrangements of any similar type of yacht. The interior sound-deadening woodwork is crafted in satin-finished American cherry with high-gloss corner posts throughout. Apart from the galley pilothouse area and the heads, her floors are covered in carpet with a sound-deadening underlayment. Head floors are covered in marble tile. All fabrics, wall coverings, carpets, bedspreads, pillow shams, and more have been upgraded to the highest quality. Closets and hanging lockers are lined with aromatic cedar. The windows on the main deck are gray-tinted, heat-treated laminated glass. There are four separate and independent cooling and heating systems throughout.

The electronics package has been upgraded to Garmin and includes dual chart plotters in Pilot House and Flybridge, autopilot, AIS, and MMSI. Her engine room is clean and well-kept, with full-standing headroom and a thoughtful layout, making maintenance and accessibility to equipment unbelievably easy.

The twin CAT 3196-TA 660 HP diesels have approximately 1000 hours since a major overhaul! New Exhausts 2016 by DeAngelo Marine. The 12 KW generator has 2919 hours (10/23) and the 20 KW generator has 1393 hours (10/23). Regardless of the weather, she provides a great cruising experience with her WesMar stabilizers.

Three steps down from the Pilothouse or three steps up from the cockpit, the salon provides a relaxing open, and airy space with great visibility all around. To port is a very large U-shaped sofa (recovered by C2 Shore) with an adjustable-height coffee table.

Forward to starboard is a custom cabinet for wine bottles and glasses. Continuing along the starboard side, custom cabinetry encloses the motorized retractable 42” television screen.  A large upholstered swivel club chair lends extra seating.

All furniture tops are finished in Madrone Burl. Wood blinds cover the windows.  The double aft doors are equipped with rollaway screens, and open to the cockpit

A spacious outboard-facing U-shaped Galley, with a large window over the sink is located in the aft port corner of the Pilothouse. It is efficient in design, layout, and storage space. All countertops are finished in granite with splash rail, the floor is teak and holly style, and the refrigerator is paneled to match the cabinetry.  The sink is a double stainless basin with single lever Grohe faucet.  Four burner Miele electric stove top is covered by a custom-routed Boos cutting board for extra counter space.  Opposite the galley, an upholstered dinette will comfortably seat four. with granite-topped pedestal table and full storage beneath. Aft of the dinette is a curved staircase to the Flybridge.

Located amidships to take advantage of the full beam of the boat. A centerline queen-size bed with dual control Sleep Number Mattress (new 2020) and upgraded bedspread and pillow shams.  Nightstands on either side with swing arm reading lights on the headboard.  Concealed overhead rope lighting adds ambiance.

Cherry-finished cabinets and hanging closets provide ample storage for clothing and personal items.  A small Honeywell safe is located in the larger closet.  To starboard is a large dresser with drawers and doors, a cabinet, and large hanging locker.  Forward to port is a larger lighted step-in closet A separate closet houses a Whirlpool stacked washer and dryer.

The ensuite Master Head runs fore and aft along the port side. The vanity top is marble with under-mounted oval sink.

Aft is a stall shower with glass door and single lever adjustable height Moen showerhead. Forward is the VacuFlush freshwater toilet. The medicine cabinet is finished with beveled mirror doors, the headliner is a fitted mirror, and the ventilating fan has an automatic timer.

Centerline queen-size berth with 7" innerspring mattress, upgraded bedspread and pillow shams, and large storage beneath.

The stateroom features a lighted cedar-lined hanging locker with shelf storage to starboard, 2 Lewmar overhead hatches with Ocean screens/shades, a dresser and, built-in shelves outboard and mirrored forward bulkhead. Concealed overhead rope lighting adds ambiance.  An HP combo printer linked to wireless network provides the flexibility to conduct work when needed.

Upper and lower berths, outboard, fitted with 7" innerspring mattresses and upgraded bedspreads and pillow shams. There is a lighted hanging locker (contains shelves which could be removed) and a mirrored full height storage locker forward with shelves.  Concealed overhead rope lighting adds ambiance.

Located opposite the Port Guest Stateroom with marble-topped vanity, beveled mirrored medicine cabinet, VacuFlush freshwater toilet, automatic ventilating fan on a timer, fitted mirror headliner, and storage cupboard below the vanity. The separate shower stall offers a bench seat, single lever Moen showerhead, and glass door.

At the same level as the Galley and Dinette is the Pilothouse centered around a curved console with navigation and full engine instrumentation and engine controls with an adjustable Stidd helmsman chair. To port is a chart/work area with chart drawers and storage beneath.

Windows are kept clear, when needed; by three multi-speed marine grade windshield wipers with washers and an air defrost system. She has both port and starboard access through flush-fit aircraft-type sliding doors with rollaway screens.

Westbay has developed a high-quality AC/DC ship electrical system that begins with a custom load-switching AC circuit breaker panel for balancing generator and shore power to obtain maximum efficiency. It is further supported by a Yacht-O-Matic automatic electrical source switching system to provide hands-off control for generators and shore power loads. There are analog meters to monitor AC and DC amps and volts. Low voltage AC halogen, 120 volt fluorescent, and 12 volt lighting is used appropriately throughout the boat.

The cockpit may be entered from the swim platform, or from the salon via double doors. The cockpit deck is laid with 5/8” teak, new in 2019.  Concurrently, the swim platform teak surface was removed and replaced with a non-skid surface.

Cockpit highlights include varnished teak cap rails, five storage lockers port, and starboard, a swing-out control station with engine and bow thruster controls on port side for docking, sink and faucet, Miele electric barbecue grill, handheld hot/cold shower, and multi-color select courtesy lights. White hull is vacuum bonded hand laid up fiberglass Knytex and BTI with 1" core cell, urethane foam core fiberglass stringers, and ISO Aristech resin osmosis protection below the waterline. The deck is cored, as are all bulkheads.

Barium-filled foam composite laminate in engine room bulkheads and overhead for sound insulation. Bilges and machinery spaces are finished out in epoxy paint for ease of maintenance. Boot stripe is 2" black Imron and bottom is finished with Interlux 2000/2001 epoxy barrier and Micron CSC extra anti-fouling paint.

The hull is protected with a rub rail capped with a stainless-steel striker. All handrails and rail fittings are 1 1/4'" 316 stainless. 12 cleats - 4 bow, 2 stern, 4 spring line, and 2 flush popups on swim platform. An anchor platform with bow roller is fitted on the foredeck. Propeller shafts and hydrodynamic rudders are stainless steel.

Cockpit floor is laid teak sole and varnished teak cap rail on bulwarks. A port side door opens to the swim platform with 5 removable N stainless handrails/staples.

Cockpit: The vessel comes with the standard layout with all equipment found in good condition. This layout includes a large cockpit with space for a fighting chair centerline. Fish wells are aft to port and starboard with live wells forward. The ice chipper discharges into the starboard fish well and the port well is refrigerated. Deck lockers line the perimeter with the tackle center aft to starboard. This area has a removable sun shade and the crew area door is centerline forward.

Aft Deck: This is a good size and comes with a large built-in seating aft with a teak dining table and chairs. There is a built-in wet bar forward to port with a sink and fridge. The television is installed above the bar as well. There is a stairway to starboard with access to the flybridge. Salon entry thru double teak varnished doors. Control stations are hatched to port and starboard forward. This area is well protected by the fly bridge overhang.

Fore & Side Decks: The fore deck features windlass installed centerline forward with a deck hatch for access to the chain locker. A large sunpad is also featured. The side decks allow easy access forward and aft with a starboard side entry door into the galley/dining area.

Pilot House & Boat Deck: The helm was found on the centerline with all gauges and controls easy to hand. A single helm chair is just aft with setee and table aft to port. There is a day head opposite to starboard the stairway is forward. The boat deck has ample room for tender and personal watercraft centerline with the davit to port. 

Interior: A good-sized salon with large windows and storage. There is a large sofa aft to port with a coffee table. The TV is installed on a powered lift opposite to starboard with the entertainment equipment stored in cabinetry below. Forward of the salon to port is the formal dining area, with a table and seating for 6. There is excellent storage along both sides of the salon and dining area in way of built in cabinetry. There is a starboard side companionway with fridge drawers, ice maker and wine chiller. The galley is to port with subzero refrigerator/freezer and galley appliances. The galley is open and features large windows and door. Second dining area is forward with barstools and a granite top.

Guest Accommodations: Guest accommodations are accessed via the starboard side stairwell leading down from the galley area. Aft is the full beam master stateroom that comes with a king sized bed installed on the centerline, excellent storage in lockers and drawers with the head and shower accessed forward to starboard. A tub is in the master head. The port stateroom comes with single berths to port and starboard. The head is a shared head accessed from the companionway that can also act as a day head. The vip stateroom has a queen berth forward on the centerline with the head/shower aft to starboard. Good storage in lockers and drawers and the TV is mounted aft.

The washer and dryer are installed in the guest companionway to starboard.

Crews Accommodations: This area is accessed from the cockpit through a watertight door that opens into the centerline aft passageway. The port cabin has a single berth with the head forward while the starboard cabin has upper/lower berths and the head aft. Switch boards are forward as is the engine room watertight door.

Machinery Space: This area is accessed from the crew companionway, head room is ample and there is good access to all of the machinery to carry out service work.

This layout includes a large cockpit with space for a fighting chair centerline. Fish wells are aft to port and starboard with live wells forward. The ice chipper discharges into the starboard fish well and the port well is refrigerated. Deck lockers line the perimeter with the tackle center aft to starboard. This area has a removable sun shade and the crew area door is centerline forward.</p> <p><strong>Aft Deck: <br /></strong>This is a good size and comes with a large built-in seating aft with a teak dining table and chairs. There is a built-in wet bar forward to port with a sink and fridge. The television is installed above the bar as well. There is a stairway to starboard with access to the flybridge. Salon entry thru double teak varnished doors. Control stations are hatched to port and starboard forward. This area is well protected by the fly bridge overhang.</p> <p><strong>Fore & Side Decks:</strong> <br />The fore deck features windlass installed centerline forward with a deck hatch for access to the chain locker. A large sunpad is also featured. The side decks allow easy access forward and aft with a starboard side entry door into the galley/dining area.</p> <p><strong>Pilot House & Boat Deck:</strong> <br />The helm was found on the centerline with all gauges and controls easy to hand. A single helm chair is just aft with setee and table aft to port. There is a day head opposite to starboard the stairway is forward. The boat deck has ample room for tender and personal watercraft centerline with the davit to port. </p> <p><strong>Interior:</strong> <br />A good-sized salon with large windows and storage. There is a large sofa aft to port with a coffee table. The TV is installed on a powered lift opposite to starboard with the entertainment equipment stored in cabinetry below. Forward of the salon to port is the formal dining area, with a table and seating for 6. There is excellent storage along both sides of the salon and dining area in way of built in cabinetry. There is a starboard side companionway with fridge drawers, ice maker and wine chiller. The galley is to port with subzero refrigerator/freezer and galley appliances. The galley is open and features large windows and door. Second dining area is forward with barstools and a granite top.</p> <p><strong>Guest Accommodations:</strong> <br />Guest accommodations are accessed via the starboard side stairwell leading down from the galley area. Aft is the full beam master stateroom that comes with a king sized bed installed on the centerline, excellent storage in lockers and drawers with the head and shower accessed forward to starboard. A tub is in the master head. The port stateroom comes with single berths to port and starboard. The head is a shared head accessed from the companionway that can also act as a day head. The vip stateroom has a queen berth forward on the centerline with the head/shower aft to starboard. Good storage in lockers and drawers and the TV is mounted aft.</p> <p>The washer and dryer are installed in the guest companionway to starboard.</p> <p><strong>Crews Accommodations:</strong> <br />This area is accessed from the cockpit through a watertight door that opens into the centerline aft passageway. MAHANA for sale

For good reason the 78 is an immensely popular model of the West Bay Sonship line of yachts. She shows exceedingly well in all areas. She is a large volume boat that retains appealing lines and superb performance and handling attributes. She also features spacious outdoor lounging areas perfect for relaxing or entertaining.  Motor yacht MAHANA has benefitted from excellent ownership history with continued upgrades. MAHANA’S interior is beautifully finished in American cherry wood with a satin varnish crafted by Canadian craftsmen. Much of the interior was replaced and redesigned in 2018 by Nationally Award Winning ISD designer Cary Vogel. All carpeting was replaced in 2019.  The main salon features a comfortable and open area with good viewing out the side windows and convenient access to the galley and aft deck.  To maximize size and comfort the owner’s stateroom is located amidship and forward of the engine room. This stateroom is unusually large for a boat of this size.  The flybridge is fully enclosed with a fiberglass hardtop and new Strataglass making it a comfortable place in a wide range of weather. The very large boat deck can be utilized as an entertainment area by easily removing the tender. “We wanted to create something that is truly electrifying, with boats that excite and inspire, but also protect the environments we explore,” Jarkko Jämsén, Axopar’s head designer, said in a statement . “AX/E reflects Axopar’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on the water.”

The two newcomers, which debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival this week, both feature advanced electric propulsion systems by Norwegian e-motor manufacturer EVOY. The duo is also equipped with the robust deep-V hulls synonymous with Axopar.

The 22-foot AX/E 22 is powered by a 63 kW battery and an Evoy Outboard Breeze motor that can produce over 120 hp for a top speed of 36 knots and a range of more than 50 nautical miles at slow speeds. The larger, 25-foot AX/E 25 packs a 126 kWh battery and a more powerful Evoy Outboard Storm motor capable of churning out over 300 horses for a max speed of over 50 knots and a range of up to 60 nautical miles at slow speeds. Axopar adds that each boat also offers “unparalleled torque, whisper-quiet operation, and zero emissions.” Fast charging tech ensures minimal downtime between adventures, too.

The AX/E fleet isn’t bad to look at, either. The first two models showcase premium eco-friendly materials, powder-painted profiles, stylish upholstery, and neutral palettes, resulting in a refined, timeless aesthetic that is sure to appeal to discerning yachters. Each boat also has modular features that enable personalized configurations. Both can accommodate six passengers, but the 25 also has a front cabin that can sleep two guests. Want to check them out in person? The AX/E 22 and AX/E 25 will be displayed at Cannes from September 10 to 15. The 25 has a recommended retail price of €234,000 (about $259,000), while the 22 has a recommended retail price of €133,500 (roughly $147,000).
