Sailing Italy

With extensive coastline, Italy bareboat charters have  something to offer even the most experienced sailors. From chic resorts  in Capri to gorgeous views of Sardinia, erupting volcanoes in the  Aeolian Islands, the rich history of Rome, sandy beaches of Sicily and  the charming slow-paced life on the Amalfi Coast, whichever region you  choose for your sailing vacation each will be a unique adventure.

Being a center of international tourism, Italy is visited by over 50  million people each year. Experiencing Italy on a sailing vacation is a  great way to enjoy this wonderful, sunny country and make lasting  memories. Many find that one trip isn't enough, and will return again  and again to relax and soak up all that Italy has to offer.

Italian Cuisine

Apart from the exciting history, fashion and friendly people,  Italy is a country that is world famous for its delicious cuisine. Once  you charter a boat in Italy, make this trip an unforgettable experience  by exploring culture and traditional lifestyle through local foods. You  may dine in small marinas, stock up with seafood, try fantastic fruits  and vegetables in local markets, or lunch in casual waterside pizzerias  while sailing in Salerno or Naples. Discover Italy's famous gelato  ice-cream in Rome, or sample world renowned Tuscan wines while sailing  in Follonica, Piombino or Livorno.

Sailing in Italy is the best possible way to explore this gorgeous  country, as you can reach the most beautiful spots while avoiding  crowded tourist destinations. As is typical for much of the  Mediterranean, Italy's climate is mostly subtropical, with warm dry  summers and wet winters. The months of May through October are optimal  for a bareboat charter in Italy. During these months you can expect  moderate winds from 10 to 20 knots while average temperatures will range  from 70 to 90 F (20 to 30 C). July and August are the peak of the  summer season, with temperatures reaching up to 90 F (30 C) and warm  seas that can rise to a comfortable 75 F (24 C). This is a great time  for sailors with moderate skills to experience and explore the region.  The winter months can also be a wonderful time for a sailing trip in  Italy, with mild temperatures and fewer crowds.

Sailing Areas

There are 5 major areas in Italy with the highest concentration of  sailing yachts and catamarans for charter. 12 knots offers yacht  rentals in Salerno, as well as a large fleet of charter yachts in  Tropea, Follonica, Skarlino and Naples.

Naples bareboat charter, Amalfi Coast

Sheltered short passages and light breezes make this area ideal  for a relaxed sailing vacation. When taking a yacht charter in Italy  you must consider sailing along the beautiful Amalfi Coast. Most Italy  and Amalfi yacht charters begin in Naples. This city has distinct energy  - chaotic but beautiful. While it may feel daunting at first sight,  Naples will soon charm you with its hospitality and colorful culture.  From the Naples yacht charter base in southern Italy, you have an easy  gateway to Capri and the Amalfi coast.

In less than a day's passage from Naples you may reach the Amalfi  coastline that stretches from Sorrento to Salerno, the most stunning and  incomparable coastline of the Mediterranean. Beautiful hillside towns  with colorful terrace houses clinging to steep cliffs represent  authentic Italian architecture.

Salerno is the biggest yacht charter base in Italy that can boast a  long history dating back to the 4th century. One of the most popular  historical sites of this sailing destination is the Arechi Castle. Built  in the 6th century, this castle offers the best views of the entire  town of Salerno.

From there you may head to Capri, one of the most prestigious sailing  destinations. A reservation is necessary for a berth in the marina  beforehand, as this is a popular and busy place during the summer  season.

Yacht charters in Procida can be an alternative to Naples. Located in  the Bay of Naples, this relatively undiscovered and untouched island  can be easily reached by ferry. Procida has open access to the Amalfi  Coast and Pontine Islands.

Sailing Scarlino

This is another must visit destination for an Italian yacht  charter. This tiny town has cobblestone streets and is framed by hills  of ancient, silvery olive groves. From the top of the hill, opens a  breathtaking view of the harbor and beautiful coastline. Numerous  waterside cafes offer great places to sit and watch the glamorous  yachting world. Further down the Italian coast, you may sail to Elba,  the largest island of the Tuscan Archipelago, located only 6 miles from  Piombino. Elba has several coastal villages, all with the same  spectacular views of the seas. You may also like to stop and take a walk  along the streets of the island's  principal town – Portoferraio.

Boat rentals In Italy

A yacht charter in Italy requires a valid skipper's license.  The skipper must be at least 18 years of age (this is also a basic  requirement for obtaining a sailing license) and must carry their  license at all times during the vacation. A valid skipper's license will  allow you to sail along the coastline within 20 miles of the shore.

In order to charter a motor boat you will also need an official  permit allowing you to operate a power vessel with an engine over 40 hp.  Italian authorities recognize most of the International Certificates of  Pleasure Craft Operators.

Italians are very sensitive about the protection of their marine  reserves. You should keep in mind that it is forbidden to bring a yacht  close to the shore in protected areas (usually a minimum distance is 1  to 2 miles). In these areas it is also prohibited to fish, collect  seashells, sea plants, cruise on a boat with a working engine, anchor,  or practice any type of water sport. Italian protected areas are found  in Cinque Terre, the Tuscan Archipelago, Isole Tremiti, Miramar,  Maddalena Archipelago, Egadiysky Archipelago, the island of Ustica,  Porto Cesareo and Ventotene.

Italy is among the countries of the Schengen Agreement, and is a  member of EFTA. For citizens of the countries that are members of these  organizations, as well as for EU citizens, a valid passport is all that  is required to enter Italy. You are allowed to stay in the country for  up to 90 days.

Below we explore the right time to charter and some of the key places to visit. You can also browse the yachts available in Italy this year. An Italy yacht charter vacation brings this central Mediterranean country’s beautiful culture and scenery to life. You can experience many different aspects of Italy, including the restaurants, art, history and colour in the comfort of your favourite luxury charter yacht on the Mediterranean and Adriatic coastlines. The famous Italian places you can explore include Naples , Capri , Amalfi , Portofino , Sardinia , Rome ,  Sicily and Venice , to name a few.

Cost To Charter a Yacht In Italy:

The cost to charter a crewed yacht in Italy begins at a price of around 5,000 Euros per week plus advanced provisioning allowance (APA) expenses, typically around 30%. The most expensive luxury Italy superyacht charter holiday costs over 1 million Euros per week plus APA.

The Italy Charter Season:

Like most of the Mediterranean, the Italy season generally runs from April to the end of October. The summer season for Italy is in July and August. This is also the high season as far as yacht charter goes. Other good times to rent your yacht are generally on either of the shoulder seasons (April-May and September-October), each side of the main summer season, as the temperatures are still comfortable, and the onshore tourists have yet to arrive in their largest numbers. The types of yachts available in Italy include motor yacht, sailing yacht charter, skippered, crewed yachts, catamarans, power boats, sailboat, luxury yachts and the ever increasing mega and superyacht charter.

Expert Charter Broker Quote:

“I think Italy is so special because it truly has something to offer everyone. Whether you are seeking a romantic honeymoon, a family vacation, or a holiday with a few of your closest friends, Italy can provide exactly what you’re looking for.” – Trina Howes Luxury Yacht Charter Broker in her article titled ‘ Italy – Why is this Charter Location so Special? ’

Superyacht moored inThe Italian Riviera - Rapallo and Cinque-terra

Many Italy and Amalfi private charters begin in Naples. Naples is a city with a distinct energy - chaotic yet charming, cluttered yet beautiful. Rather daunting to the virgin eye,

Naples has a way of shedding your inhibitions, to present a proud and colorful culture, with an alluring hospitality. Naples is the yacht charter hub of southern Italy and the gateway to Capri and the Amalfi Coast. The Isle of Capri and Amalfi present some of the most spectacular coastlines of the whole Mediterranean.

AMALFI COAST - COSTIERA AMALFITANA

A yacht holiday in Italy must incorporate the stunning Amalfi Coast. The Amalfi coast is around a day sail south of Naples. Amalfi and Positano , like Capri, attract visitors and charter yachts of the highest prestige. The 50 km of the Amalfi coastline stretches mainly from Sorrento to Salerno . It remains a place of rare and incredible beauty. The hillside towns are a truly magnificent display of Italian engineering and architecture. Terrace houses and buildings cling to steep cliffs, rising from the coastline.

Portofino is another must see. It is a tiny town of cobble-stone streets, framed by hills of silvery, ancient olive groves. From the top of the hill, the views of the harbor and coastline are breathtaking. Cafes, boutique shops and gelataria’s spill out into the harbor piazza. The portside cafes are a great place to sit and watch the glamorous yachting world go by. Further down the Italian coast, you'll sail upon 'Cinque Terre' - A succession of five coastal villages, all with the same spectacular views of the seas. These villages are less expensive and sophisticated, than their more popular sister, Portofino. There is a stunning and famous walk along this coastal route, linking the five towns romantically called 'Via Dell 'Amore' ( The Way of Love ).

A charter in Sardinia, Italy is also quite an experience. Sardinia is a universe unto itself. It's an island of Italy, where the local language is incomprehensible to all other Italians.

An island with one of Europe's most stunning coastlines; it's waters teem with fish; it's golden sands disappear into oceans of blue; it's rugged mountains are covered with flocks of sheep producing cheese so pungent, your palate will never forget.

Beneteau Italy, Mediterranean

Venice is a city that’s surrounded by so much water, so being afloat on a yacht vacation is a fantastic way to experience this classic Mediterranean city. Venice is one of the most romantic cities in the world , with its intricate web of canals, charming gondoliers, glorious renaissance architecture and narrow cobbled streets. Venice is an essential stop on any Adriatic yacht charter holiday. On your charter boat, take a cruise down the Grand Canal. From the deck of your charter boat, you’ll be able to pass by sights such as the Ca'Foscari, Palazzo Grassi, Guggenheim Museum and the Accademia Bridge.

Why CharterWorld? CharterWorld is a specialist charter company with all the crewed yachts in Italy and the Mediterranean at the best price. What types of motor yachts can I charter in Italy?

Superyachts.

Nothing can match the prestige of cruising Italy’s most exclusive destination aboard one of the world’s finest superyachts. A luxury superyacht offers limitless levels of luxury with outstanding onboard amenities and a larger crew ready to cater to your every need.

Multi-hull vessels

Catamarans are the most popular form of multi-hull vessel, offering superb volume courtesy of their wide beam. They also typically boast a shallower draft compared to similar classed vessels, meaning they can easily access smaller marinas. Catamarans also offer superb stability, making them great for those who want maximum comfort. Multi-hull vessels are a great choice for those seeking plenty of space, including large groups of friends and families.

Expedition yachts

Expedition yachts are built to cruise the world’s most remote regions; however, they have appeal in the Mediterranean as these world-class vessels boast an enhanced number of tenders and water toys. If you want maximum adventure in Italy, charter a luxury crewed expedition vessel.

Sports yachts

Sports yachts are built for speed and are great for zipping along the Italian coastline. These charter vessels typically boast a planing hull, enabling them to reach high speeds, and are a superb option for those who want to maximize the number of ports of call in one itinerary.

Flybridge yachts

Flybridge yachts boast an elegant, large, open-air area at the top of the vessel. This voluminous space is ideal for large group gatherings and this flexible spot typically includes zoned areas for dining, sunbathing, and relaxing. Some flybridge yachts will also feature a bar and hot tub on the flybridge. The flybridge area is also a great spot for soaking up panoramic views of the Italian coastline.

Full displacement yachts

Full displacement yachts offer a smooth, quiet ride due to the hull shape that is designed to minimize the impact of the waves, especially in open seas. Due to their design, displacement motor yachts often boast spacious interiors when compared with planing yachts or sports yachts and are the perfect way to enjoy a truly relaxing Mediterranean vacation in Italy.

No matter what type of motor yacht you want to charter in Italy, Moran Yacht & Ship can connect you with your ideal vessel. Our team has access to the finest Italy yachts for charter and will craft a bespoke itinerary that perfectly matches your desired vacation experience. Contact our luxury yacht brokers today.

What is the Advanced Provisioning Allowance?

The Advanced Provisioning Allowance – or APA – is an additional fee that is paid on top of the base charter rate. This fee covers non-fixed costs, such as food and beverage, fuel, berthing fees, and on-land excursions. Your luxury yacht broker will estimate the APA based on your itinerary and vacation experience. At the end of your charter, the captain will provide a detailed breakdown of all costs incurred during your Italy yacht charter, and any funds left in the APA will be immediately returned to you.

How many crew will my Italy private yacht charter have?

The number of crew aboard a crewed motor yacht charter in Italy will vary depending on the size of the vessel; however, all crewed yachts will include, at the very least, a captain and several deckhands and stews/stewardesses. The world’s largest vessels can boast a crew of more than 20.

What amenities can I expect?

Every luxury yacht for charter is unique, so amenities vary between each vessel. Common amenities aboard a luxury motor yacht include:

  • Swimming pools, almost all will be heated and some will also include counter-currents for fitness. Swimming pools on luxury yachts are often surrounded by sun pads, enabling you to soak up the Mediterranean sun.
  • Hot tubs are a popular hub on luxury yachts, often located on the aft, bow, or flybridge. Enjoy a soak in your private yacht’s hot tub while enjoying a handcrafted cocktail prepared by the crew.
  • Fully equipped gym. Expect state-of-the-art equipment, including bikes, treadmills, ellipticals, and weight-lifting equipment. Some luxury yachts will also include a dedicated fitness trainer as part of the crew, helping you to maintain your fitness regimen at sea.
  • Spa area, including treatment rooms. Some luxury Italy charter yachts will also include various wellness facilities, including a sauna, steam room, and hammam.
  • Beach clubs are typically located on a yacht’s aft, providing a seamless connection with the ocean. They often boast plenty of loungers and sun pads as well as a bar.
  • Cinema room with state-of-the-art audio equipment; a superb way to enjoy family movie nights! Have your yacht’s crew prepare popcorn and your favorite treats and drinks for the ultimate cinematic experience.
  • Voluminous salons, deck spaces, and staterooms ideal for intimate gatherings or extravagant yacht parties.
  • Garage with water toys, including jet skis, snorkeling gear, stand-up paddleboards, water skis, and inflatables. Some yachts will also include scuba diving equipment and fishing gear.
  • Tender vessel, ideal for quickly accessing small ports, beaches, and coves.
  • Touch-and-go helicopter facilities or helipad, provide the most exclusive and private way to access your yacht from shore.

So when you're in Italy, you are welcome to enjoy delicious and healthy meals prepared from fresh local ingredients. There are a lot of vegetables and fruits, fish and seafood, whole grain flour and olive oil. Even though Italian cuisine is very high in calories, these calories consist of healthy natural nutrients.

If you appreciate wine, add a glass of red or white from a local vineyard to your meal, and enjoy life. Oh, and let's not forget the aroma of coffee in Italy: an invigorating ristretto or a light lungo - the choice is yours!

Summer days are a true blessing in Italy. The sea warms up to +27°C, and the air temperature is usually +34°C. There may be light rainy moments, but this doesn't affect your yachting vacation.

Don't be afraid of very hot days when you're on a yacht, as the fresh sea breeze will cool off the air a bit and let you enjoy the journey. The northern and central regions of Italy are a bit cooler than the southern part of the peninsula. And the real heat reigns in Sicily and Sardinia.

  • ancient Genoa with many attractions;
  • San-Remo, known throughout the world for its annual music festival;

About Italy

Why is Italy a good sailing destination?

With a coastline that meanders through the heart of the Mediterranean, Italy stands as a sailor’s dream. Yachting.Rent believes that Italy’s allure isn’t just rooted in its geography but also in its rich tapestry of culture, history, and nature which makes it a prime sailing destination.

From the rugged cliffs of the Amalfi Coast to the serene waters surrounding Sardinia, Italy offers a diverse sailing landscape. Each region unfurls its distinct charm, ensuring that every journey feels like a new adventure. The Ligurian Sea enchants with places like Cinque Terre, a string of centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera. Further south, the Tyrrhenian Sea is dotted with islands, such as Elba and Capri, which beckon sailors with their mystique. On the Adriatic side, destinations like Venice offer a unique maritime experience, navigating the city’s famed canals. With such varied coastlines and marine topographies, Italy is an endless playground for both novice and experienced sailors.

However, Italy’s appeal isn’t just its natural beauty. It’s the intertwining of this beauty with the nation’s rich cultural and gastronomical offerings. Anchoring in Sicilian ports can lead to a culinary journey tasting authentic Arancini or Cannoli. In Tuscany, sailors can venture inland to experience some of the world’s most renowned vineyards. Every port, every harbor in Italy tells a story – be it of ancient Roman civilizations, Renaissance art, or modern Italian lifestyle. This blend of sailing with immersive experiences is what Yachting.Rent champions, ensuring that when you set sail in Italy, it’s not just a trip on the water but a journey through the very soul of the Mediterranean.

The azure waters of Italy beckon, offering an unparalleled maritime journey. Sailing Boat: Embracing Italy’s Nautical Heritage Choosing a sailing boat is akin to stepping into Italy’s rich maritime legacy. These vessels, with their slender silhouettes and intimate decks, allow sailors to navigate the waters as the ancient mariners once did. From the tight-knit harbors of the Amalfi Coast to the shallow inlets of Puglia, sailing boats are versatile, making them perfect for close explorations. Feel the rhythmic pulse of the Mediterranean, hear the whisper of the waves, and embrace a deep connection to the sea and the stories it holds.

Italy luxury yacht charter

Awash with elegant cliff-top villages and tempting cruising grounds around every corner, a luxury yacht charter is one of the best ways to discover all that Italy has to offer. Whether cruising around the unspoilt Aeolian islands, touring the impossibly pretty towns of the Amalfi coast and picture-perfect Capri , hitting the hotspots of Sardinia or revelling in the world-famous cuisine, culture and heritage of Tuscany and its islands, the  Italian Riviera is always a good idea for a summer yacht charter.

Italy yacht season and weather

The peak summer months of July and August provide warm, sunny days with highs of 30°C. During August, many Italians take the entire month off work, meaning resorts and coastal areas are very busy. June and September offer quieter cruising grounds and very pleasant temperatures.

Climates do vary from north to south, with the south generally experiencing milder winters. In October, Sicily often has long, warm sunny days with temperatures still in the mid-20s.

Italy yacht charter itineraries

La Spezia’s Porto Lotti can accommodate yachts up to 180 metres and Porto Mirabello has capacity for yachts up to 140 metres – both good jumping-off points for Portovenere and the Cinque Terre. Rome Marina Yachting is in the port of Civitavecchia and has berths up to 100 metres. The marina is an hour and 15 minutes from Rome by car. On Sicily , Marina di Riposto is an ideal base for visiting Mount Etna and Catania, is six nautical miles from Taormina and has moorings for yachts up to 80 metres. Porto Cervo marina on Sardinia has moorings for yachts up to 120 metres. Porto di Mergellina in Naples has moorings for up to 75 metres.

Awash with old Hollywood glamour and synonymous with Italian aristocracy, the Amalfi coast is one of Italy’s most famous and coveted cruising grounds. Departing from Naples and the shadow of the volcanic peak of Vesuvius, charterers can venture 20 nautical miles to the low key isle of Procida, then take a 10 nautical-mile passage to the volcanic wonders of Ischia, hop south to the famed isle of Capri before cruising 20 nautical miles to Amalfi and the neighbouring gems of Ravello and Positano. For those wanting a mix of city and sea, charters can also make an overnight passage and arrive for sightseeing in Rome.

The island of Sardinia is a superyacht magnet and its famous Costa Smeralda attracts the yachting elite every summer. Mixing Michelin restaurants and five-star hotels with kaleidoscopic bays, sublime beaches and celebrity haunts such as Porto Cervo, Sardinia is one of the hottest charter destinations in Europe.

Charters in the Tuscan archipelago are equally bewitching, with the islands of Elba, Gorgona, Capraia, Montecristo, Giglio and Giannutri home to pristine shores, stunning coves and charming villages steeped in history. The islands form a convenient stepping stone between the coastline of Tuscany and Corsica, allowing charterers to combine the delights of Italy and the French island in on trip.

Further north the pearls of the Ligurian coastline, the UNESCO protected Cinque Terre, comprise the picture-perfect towns of Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore cling to the cliffs, while romantic Portofino is a must-visit.

For natural wonders and more off-the-beaten-track adventures, the volcanic Aeolian Islands lie 25 miles off the north-east coast of Sicily and provide a varied and stunning itinerary. Sicily itself has also catapulted onto the charter scene, with an enticing mix of secret grottos, secluded coves and glittering beaches.

Italy by superyacht

Getting to italy.

The mainland has a host of international airports that handle commercial and private aircraft including those in Naples, Rome and Pisa.

Sardinia’s three airports of Olbia, Alghero and Cagliari all handle commercial and private jets.

Catania and Palermo airports in Sicily handle private and commercial aircraft.

Common charter routes in and out of Italy include crossings from the Adriatic and Croatia, and crossings from the French Riviera and western Mediterranean.

Legal requirements

Official documentation required from the crew for charters must be sent to the Italian authorities at least two weeks prior to arrival.

Yachts based in the European Union, on which VAT has already been paid or is not applicable, are welcome to enter Italy from any other EU country without having to undergo customs formalities. Vessels arriving from outside the EU must report to customs on arrival, however. The current VAT rate of 22% is reduced for yachts depending on how much time they have spent cruising in waters outside of the EU.

There are some local laws concerning where to anchor and swim, which can be punishable by fines. It is illegal to swim in an Italian harbour, so swimmers must dive in further out from shore.

Except when entering or leaving, motoring within 300 metres of the shoreline is forbidden. It is also prohibited to anchor within 200 metres of a beach in Italy.

Italy yacht charter

Known for its romantic charm, chic coastal towns, and world-famous cuisine, Italy is a yacht charter paradise. There's plenty of things to do with coastal towns and cities on the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas. Take your pick from family-friendly seaside resorts to high-end party hotspots, and rugged and remote islands and beautiful locations to explore. There is over 7,200 km of coastline in Italy, creating an abundance of yacht charter itineraries perfect even for the most discerning of elite travelers.

How much to charter a yacht in Italy?

Italy is blessed with beautiful weather and plenty of seaside towns and nearby islands to explore. It's no surprise that all kinds of yachts cruise along the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas on any given day, marveling at the beautiful scenery and dropping off anchor to enjoy the charming towns and ports' spoils. To charter a sailing yacht in Italy can cost you around $6,500 for a week's rent. This type of boat includes five cabins for ten people on board and has a length of 51 feet. A catamaran, on the other hand, can cost around $11,000 for a week's charter. This type of yacht features four cabins for eight people, with a length of 52 feet. And lastly, a motor yacht that's 88 feet in length can cost around $43,000 for a week's rent in Italy.

What are the most popular yacht holidays in Italy?

Italy offers a vast diversity of destinations. Italy has it all from quiet and relaxing islands to party hotspots to luxury hilltop towns favored by the rich and famous. The Italian Riviera is recognized as the most stunning destination for yacht charters in Italy. It is found on the Mediterranean Sea and renowned for its upscale restaurants, cultural landmarks, and centuries-old architecture. The towns of Liguria, Portofino, and Rapallo are the most popular spots to moor a yacht charter, as well as Cinque Terre, a group of former fishing villages that are now popular vacation spots. On the Riviera tip is the region of Tuscany, which is a captivating destination for a yacht charter.

Additionally, a yacht charter in Italy is never complete without a visit to the Amalfi Coast. Romantic, beautiful, and lush, Positano, Capri, and Sorrento's seaside towns offer breathtaking scenery, pastel-colored houses on hilltops and cliffs, and romantic venues. If you're on the search for the perfect honeymoon destination in Italy, then a yacht charter to the Amalfi Coast will offer you the most romantic experience you can ever have on a yacht charter. There are limited beaches in the Amalfi Coast, but its lack of white sand beaches is overshadowed by the beauty found onshore. Explore the ancient villas of Capri, stroll around Ravello's manicured gardens, and visit the thermal spas on the islands of Procida and Ischia, which were formed through volcanic activity.

But if you're looking for more rugged landscapes, Sicily and the Aeolian Islands are your best bet. The Aeolian Islands' crystal blue waters are a sight to behold, where you get to hop from one volcanic island to another and witness a steaming volcano on Stromboli. In Palermo, the Gothic architecture and famous palm-tree lined streets will take you back in time, and if you desire to spend a day on a beach, head to the town of Marsala for some peace and quiet, and unspoiled beaches. Further from the mainland of Italy is the island of Sardinia, close to the French island of Corsica. It offers an entirely different side of Italy where sandy beaches abound. Explore the La Maddalena archipelago, or visit Porto Cervo, a luxury yacht charter haven, where you can find high-end shops and designer emporiums in town.

Where to go on a luxury yacht charter in Italy?

The Italian Riviera will find the most luxurious yachts hopping from one coastal town to another. Porto Lotti in Liguria offers 506 berths and accommodates boats with a maximum length of 100 meters. Offering the perfect jumping-off point to explore the Riviera, you can explore dramatic coastlines, colorful seaside towns, and delicious regional cuisine in your Italian Riviera yacht charter. Naples, or Napoli, features more than 18 marinas and is the perfect destination for yacht charters in Italy. Most charters start or end in Naples, which is also one of Italy's most visited cities.

And of course, a trip to this Western European country is never complete without visiting Venice. Considered to be among the most romantic cities in the world, a yacht charter can take you to the islands off the coast of Venice on the Adriatic Sea. And when you drop anchor on the Venice Yacht Pier, where you will find 25 berths and accommodating yachts up to 120 meters in length, you can explore the city's web of canals, renaissance architecture, romantic and charming bridges, and narrow cobbled streets. There's an essence to Italy that can only be experienced through a luxury yacht charter. With beautiful waters, some of the world's most enchanting coastal towns, and natural beauty captivating the most seasoned yacht enthusiasts, Italy is entirely best enjoyed through a yacht charter on the Adriatic or the Mediterranean.

What type of boat is best for Italy?

If you're planning a short sailing adventure lasting only a few days, opting for a daily charter like a motorboat  or an RIB  is recommended. These speedy vessels allow you to cover all the destinations on your wish list in no time, maximising your time on the water.

These vessels are designed to provide all the comforts of home while you explore the captivating Italian coast. Gulets  and sailboats  offer an authentic sailing experience, adding an extra touch of elegance and charm to your voyage.

Sailing in Italy

Many islands and cities, large and small…might it be Sardinia and Sicily?

Marinas and romantic anchor stations can of course be found along the many coasts of Italy, including in the south and on the country’s two largest islands, Sardinia and Sicily. Recommended areas for water sports and sailing activities on the islands are, among others, the Sardinian Costa del Sud between the Capo Teulada and the village of Santa Margherita di Pula, and the Gulf of Cagliari from the Capo Carbonara to the Capo Spartivento, where there are many small and large bays with beautiful sandy beaches and steep headlands that stretch up to alternating granite and sandstone cliffs. The Gulf of Asinara, on the northern coast of Sardinia across from Corsica, is no less picturesque. An itinerary suggestion for Sardinia is available here. The area offers a well developed tourist infrastructure and incomparable views of the sea and the adjacent Costa Paradiso, with its beautiful beaches around Santa Teresa di Gallura in the Olbia-Tempio province. The Sardinian east coast, in turn, lies on the Gulf of Orosei and is speckled with ancient cities like Dorgali, Galtellì, Onifai and Siniscola, and has long beaches such as Cala Cartoe, Cala Fiuli, Cala Goloritze, Cala Osalla, Cala Luna, Cala Sisine, and Cala Mariolu, all of which people are always happy to visit. Between these coasts and towards the mainland, and to the neighboring island of Sicily, stretches the popular sailing district of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the islands of the Tuscan archipelago in the north, including Elba, Montecristo and Pianosa. The Pontine islands, Capri, and Ischia near Naples  are just as attainable by boat as the Egadi Islands Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo at the Strait of Sicily and the Vulcano Aeolian islands – Lipari, Salina, Filicudi, Alicudi, Panarea and Stromboli – further east, near the Strait of Messina. The mountainous Sicily with its many cliffs is always a place that sailors enjoy circling more than once. The area provides particularly stunning landscapes, including the Gulf of Palermo on the northern coast between the nature and maritime reserve at Capo Gallo and Capo Zafferano, which water sport enthusiasts particularly enjoy for its 8 square kilometer large Ustica Island near Palermo, known for an international water sport exhibition that has happened every year here in June and July since 1959.

The Sicilian southeast is a bit flatter and smoother, and Capo Passero, named after the Isola di Capo Passero, is Sicily’s southernmost point. The area’s many grottos and underwater rocks make it a popular site for diving. The east coast between Messina, Canaia, Siracusa and Pachino is mainly dominated by the volcano Mount Etna, which also has a regional park dedicated to it (Parco dell’Etna). The southwest coast and the coasts of the Ragusa, Caltanissetta, Agrigento and Trapani provinces present their visitors with late baroque cities, magnificent architecture, and the Isole dello Satgnone nature reserve, near the city Marsala, which is famous for its wine. It isn’t uncommon to find a festival in the area, usually of a religious nature. Sciacca serves as Sicily’s Carneval center, the ancient archaeological site of Gela performs classic tragedies in the summer, and the “Discesa dalla Croce” (Descent from the Cross) is reenacted in San Cataldo every year on Good Friday.

Blue flags, black sand, red corals, and colorful fish all around

Choosing from the hundreds of Italian beaches and marinas might seem a little overwhelming, but is made a bit easier on vacationers with the “Blue Flag” system. Recognized in over 40 countries around the world, the blue flag has been awarded to 248 beaches and 62 marinas in Italy. In the Lazio region around Rome, some of the blue flag locations are Base Nautica Flavio Gioia in Gaeta, the Porto Turistico Riva di Traiano in Civitavecchia (RM), Emilia Romagna the Portoverde in Misano Adriatico and Marina di Riminia in Tuscany , Marina di Punta Ala in Castiglione della Pescala and Marina Cala Galera in Monte Argentario. A detailed overview of all the facilities and beaches that meet the strict criteria for the Blue Flag award is available at www.blueflag.org . Choosing from the innumerable diving areas around Italy is not any easier. There are perfect dive sites for all kinds of different tastes: a wreck dive on the south coast of Sardinia , places to observe red scorpion fish, cuttlefish, groupers, moray eels and flounder on the Calabrian Capo Vaticano near Mantineo, and Stromboli, with its black sand and volcanic rocks creating an exciting contrast with the colorful coral reefs in the underwater world near the islands Lampedusa, Pantelleria and Ustica. Lastly, the underwater landscape at Punta di Fetovaia on Elba, which is part of Tuscany, is at least as pronounced as pronounced and distinctive as that on land.

Explore Italy’s coasts with a choice of more than 1000 boats: Yacht charters with Yachtico

There are currently 1356 sailboats, 146 catamarans, 40 motorboats, 2 houseboats, and various canoes and kayaks available on the new and international platform for yacht and fishing charters of all kinds in Italy: YACHTICO.com . Many boats are available for charter in Portisco . The majority of the offered boats were built between 2005 and 2012, and weekly packages range widely in price. An Sailboat is available from 600 euros for a week, whereas an Aicon 72 motor yacht from Palermo has weekly packages starting from 26,500 euros. Most boats, however, can be hired for 1000 to 3500 euros per week.

For really great charter expirance I would like to recommend Maddalena Island (called La Maddalena). It is a wonderfull charter area in Sardinia with many small bays and beaches around. La Maddalena is the largest town in the Maddalena archipelago, sitting in the Straits of Bonifacio, between Sardinia and Corsica. Here are some examples of route suggestions for Sardinia .

The best time to go depends on your preferences and the experiences you seek. Generally, the peak season for yacht rentals in Italy falls between May and September, when the weather is warmest and the winds are the calmest. • Capri’s Blue Grotto - A naturally-occurring phenomenon which has become a must-visit when visiting Capri by yacht. The semi-submerged cave is filled with seawater that refracts light from outside, causing the water to appear bright blue, as if illuminated.
  • An Odyssey adventure - Take a tender over to the hidden caves and rocky islets of Li Galli, home to Homer’s legendary Sirens, the immortalized seductresses who were said to have lured sailors to their deaths.
  • Ancient city of Baia - Part of the region’s marine archaeological park, experience this intriguing sunken Roman resort, home to swish villas, a nymphaeum and mosaic floors, purportedly the former playground of legendary Roman leaders Nero and Caesar.
  • Pompeii - Situated in the Bay of Naples, this vast archaeological site is not to be missed on your Amalfi Coast yacht charter. Once a thriving Roman city, you’ll explore excavated ruins, streets and houses for a unique snapshot of life in 79 AD.
  • Star-studded Capri - Located just a few kilometers adrift from the Amalfi Coast, Capri is a must-visit for anyone with a love of luxury living. Superyachts head to Capri every year to explore the island’s picturesque beaches, impressive fashion houses and incredible cuisine.
  • Michelin-star dining - Food-lovers would be remiss not to add Nerano to their itinerary. This tiny commune is a gourmet hotspot, with not one, but two, world-class restaurants on its shores; Lo Scoglio and La Conca del Sogno. It'll be a hard decision choosing between the two, but you can expect incredible flavors and a convivial atmosphere at both.
  • Ferriere Valley waterfalls - Nestled in the Scala mountains between Amalfi and Ravello is the Ferriere Valley Nature Reserve, which offers dramatic waterfalls amid a lush jungle of moss-clad rock walls, rare ferns and welcome cool shade.
  • Fontelina Beach Club - located in Capri opposite the iconic La Faraglioni Rock Formation, and has attracted the likes of Hollywood stars Bridget Bardot and Sophie Loren.

The Amalfi Coast is good for all types of yacht charter vacation. The region is great for fun with the family, with lots of culture and history to keep children entertained, as well as a variety of restaurants to suit every palate and occasion.

However, be aware that the waters of the Tyrrhenian sea are deep and the area doesn't have an excess of beaches where little ones can play.

The region is primed for a see-and-be-seen luxury yacht charter. The glitzy restaurants and celebrity-approved beach clubs and bars mean that there is plenty for those to enjoy as part of a yacht charter with friends.

The Amalfi Coast has become a playground for superyachts and a pilgrimage for the Hollywood elite.

Luxury yacht charters on the Amalfi Coast generally begin in Naples, or Napoli in Italian, and approach the Amalfi Coast from the north. However, it is equally possible for you to begin your yachting adventure in Salerno, and cruise along the south-facing side of the peninsula first.

It's simple and straightforward to fly into Naples International Airport (NAP), which operates non-stop flights from the USA, Europe and the Middle East during the peak season.

The port of Naples is also a convenient gateway to other parts of Italy and wider Mediterranean region, with charter yachts easily able to find a berth at one of the many marinas here.

Whatever route you choose, you can be sure you won’t miss the highlights; the Amalfi Coast is comparatively smaller than other Mediterranean hotspots, so you incorporate everything you want to see into a shorter itinerary.

Where to End an Amalfi Coast Yacht Charter

If you are spending more time chartering a yacht, you may be tempted to head to Sicily , Sardinia or the Italian Riviera as part of your Amalfi Coast superyacht charter. All of these destinations can be accessed within a night cruise, and visiting them is a great way to explore another side of Italy.

With so many alluring towns and villages on the Amalfi Coast and the surrounding region, you may wish to finish your crewed yacht charter in a new destination. However, you could also finish your vacation where you started, and there are plenty of itineraries that incorporate a round trip.

Wherever you choose to disembark your yacht, finding an airport to take you back home won't be a problem. The Amalfi Coast and surrounding areas are well-connected by air, and you will enjoy a seamless transfer to an airport of your choice. Helicopter transfers can also be arranged; Sorrento, Capri, Sicily and Sardinia all have private heliports.

Yachts in the slips at marina grande in capri

There is a limited number of marinas along the Amalfi Coast, and as a result, slip costs in this region are among the highest in the Mediterranean , as many smaller yachts are unable to sit out at anchor as the water is too deep.

If you would like to spend a night in port, then be sure to make this clear to your crew or your charter broker well in advance, so that they can book it. It's advisable to spend a few nights of your charter docked in a marina, as there are plenty of restaurants and bars that are great for evening entertainment on the Amalfi Coast, and being docked in a marina will give you easy access to the town centre.

The marinas that do exist along the Amalfi Coast typically cater to smaller yachts, so be sure to bear this mind. The following are the best marinas in the region, with a number that cater to larger yachts:

  • Marina di Stabia , one of the most popular places to begin a yacht charter on the Amalfi Coast, located midway between Naples and Salerno on the north-western side of the Amalfi Coast, and boasts luxury facilities and the capacity to host yachts measuring up to 100m. It is conveniently situated just thirty minutes' drive from Naples airport.
  • Marina Molo Louise is another favorite option for starting a yacht charter in Naples, and caters to yachts measuring up to 110m. It is located just over twenty minutes' away from the airport.
  • Coppola Marina , located in the town of Amalfi, this marina has 90 berths with a maximum length of 35m.
  • Marina Piccola,  situated in the beautiful port town of Sorrento, it has 280 berths which cater to yachts measuring up to 40m.
  • Grassi Junior, offers 30 slips for yachts with a maximum length of 30m, located in the sought-after hotspot of Positano.
  • Capri Marina , another popular addition to an Amalfi Coast superyacht vacation, but the cost of a slip for one night is the highest in the Mediterranean, so be aware of this before you book in. There is a total of 300 berths, with a maximum length of 60m.
  • Marina d'Arechi , popular marina in Salerno, which has 1,000 berths with a maximum capacity of 130m.

Slips are something that will add an extra cost to your yacht charter vacation, so it's important to be realistic about your budget and factor these expenses in before you book your charter.

With its A-lister appeal, rich cultural history and bevy of world-class restaurants, the Amalfi Coast is one of the most popular destinations in the Mediterranean. Therefore, we advise you to book your yacht charter well in advance of your trip to secure your perfect yacht on your preferred dates. If you leave it too late, the selection of yachts at your disposal will be reduced and you may not be able to explore the destinations you have your heart set on.

Plus, finding dates when everyone in your charter party is available can be tricky; the longer you leave it, the more challenging it will be.

Your  yacht charter broker  will also need plenty of time to tailor an itinerary to suit you, and enough time to book ahead for the nights you wish to spend in marinas. We recommend booking up to 3 months in advance to give your broker the optimum time to organize everything down to the last detail.

The amalfi coast yacht charter itineraries.

To fully experience the charm of the Amalfi Coast on a yacht charter, you will need around seven days- however longer and shorter itineraries can also be arranged.

The region is reasonably small compared to other destinations in the Mediterranean, but a week will give you ample time to step on shore and explore all the beautiful towns and cities of the Amalfi Coast. Expect to encounter the beautiful gardens of Ravello, the lemon groves of Sorrento, the cathedral in Amalfi and the captivating town of Positano.

For longer itineraries along the Amalfi Coast, there are many small islands scattered off the coast that can be explored; from Capri and Ischia in the south to Ponza, Ventotene and Ponza in the north.

Most Amalfi Coast yacht charters begin in Naples, where there is an international airport and large port. However, charter guests can easily begin or end their yachting adventure elsewhere in the Mediterranean, and incorporate the Amalfi Coast into part of their overall yacht charter experience. Guests on a private yacht charter in the Amalfi Coast may want to begin in the Italian Riviera or the South of France, and continue onwards to Sardinia or Sicily.

Amalfi Coast Yacht Charter Q&A

Be aware that marinas in the Amalfi Coast are in high demand, so mooring costs can add up significantly and you will need to ensure you book a berth well in advance. The region can also be congested in peak season, and towns and villages can be touristy.

There is a wide variety of yachts for charter in the Amalfi Coast, so you can be sure to find an option that suits you and your budget.

Before you book, you should factor in additional costs that aren't covered in the base rate, such as berthing, fuel, VAT, food and drink and crew tips.

Since it can be challenging to find sheltered bays and shallow water to drop anchor in, you will more than likely need to berth in a port for a night. Marinas along the Amalfi Coast are among the most expensive in the Mediterranean, so berthing costs can quickly add up.

Be aware that marinas in the Amalfi Coast are in high demand as well, so you will need to ensure you book a berth well in advance.

To give you an idea of which yachts are available, you can browse the complete fleet of Amalfi Coast charter yachts on our site. If you make an enquiry, a yacht charter broker will be in touch to provide you with a custom charter proposal based on your requirements.

Alternatively, you can reach out to your preferred yacht charter broker , and they will be able to find the ideal yacht for you and your charter party.

The prime time for an Amalfi Coast yacht charter is between June and September, when the weather is warm, rainfall is low and the wind is minimal.

The weather is pleasantly warm as early as May and later in October too, with the added bonus of fewer crowds.

Between August and September the sea temperature is higher; so later in the season is best to visit if you want to spend a lot of time in the water.

Amalfi Coast yacht charters typically start in Naples, where there is an international airport. Naples is the best starting point if you'd like to explore all of what the Amalfi Coast has to easy access to Capri and Sorrento on the western side and Positano and Ravello on the eastern side. Naples makes a great starting point if you'd like to explore further afield as well, with the islands of Ischia and Ponza located nearby.

Amalfi Coast yacht charters can also start in Salerno, where there is a domestic airport that operates scheduled and chartered flights. Salerno is the best place to start if you have limited time and would like to see the sights of Amalfi, Ravello, Positano and Nerano, all of which are located on the eastern side of the Amalfi Coast.

Of course, it's also possible to take a car down the Amalfi Coast and board your yacht from anywhere you choose.

British tech magnate Mike Lynch, 2 US citizens among missing after luxury yacht sinks off Sicily

15 people were rescued and one body believed to be the cook was found near the wreck, but six others were unaccounted for and believed inside the hull, by andrea rosa and nicole winfield | the associated press • published august 19, 2024 • updated on august 19, 2024 at 3:21 pm.

British tech magnate Mike Lynch and five other people were missing after their luxury sailing yacht sank during a freak storm off Sicily early Monday, Italy’s civil protection and authorities said. Lynch’s wife and 14 other people survived.

Lynch, who was  acquitted in June  in a big U.S. fraud trial, was among six people who remain unaccounted for after their chartered sailboat sank off Porticello, when a tornado over the water known as a waterspout struck the area overnight, said Salvo Cocina of Sicily’s civil protection agency.

One body was recovered, and police divers spent the day trying to reach the hull of the ship, which was resting at a depth of 50 meters (163 feet) off Porticello where it had been anchored, rescue authorities said. They returned to the site after 10 p.m. to see if it would be possible to search through the night, when weather conditions were expected to worsen, said Luca Cari, spokesman of the fire rescue service.

It had a crew of 10 people and 12 passengers, the Italian coast guard said. A sudden fierce storm had battered the area overnight, and struck the place precisely where the 56-meter (184-foot) British-flagged Bayesian had been moored.

“They were in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said Cocina, noting that another superyacht nearby wasn't as badly damaged and helped rescue some of the 15 survivors, who included Lynch's wife Angela Bacares.

The Bayesian was notable for its single 75-meter (246-feet) mast — one of the world’s tallest made of aluminum and which was lit up at night, just hours before it sank. Online charter sites listed it for rent for up to 195,000 euros (about $215,000) a week.

One of the survivors, identified as Charlotte Golunski, said she momentarily lost hold of her 1-year-old daughter Sofia in the water, but then managed to hold her up over the waves until a lifeboat inflated and they were both pulled to safety, Italian news agency ANSA reported, quoting the mother. The father, James Emsley, also survived, said Cocina.

Karsten Borner, the captain of the Sir Robert Baden Powell, said he had noticed the Bayesian nearby during the storm but after it calmed he saw a red flare and realized the ship had simply disappeared, ANSA and the Giornale di Sicilia newspaper reported. Borner said he and a crew member boarded their tender and found a lifeboat with 15 people, some of them injured, who they then took aboard and alerted the coast guard.

Eight of those rescued were hospitalized while the others were taken to a hotel. One body believed to be the cook was found near the wreck, but six others were unaccounted for and believed inside the hull, said Cari, the fire rescue spokesperson. The rescue operations, which were visible from shore, involved helicopters and rescue boats from the coast guard, fire rescue and civil protection service.

Fisherman Francesco Cefalu’ said he had seen a flare from shore at around 4:30 a.m. and immediately set out to the site but by the time he got there, the Bayesian had already sunk, with only cushions, wood and other items from the superyacht floating in the water.

“But for the rest, we didn’t find anyone,” he said from the port hours later. He said that he immediately alerted the coast guard and stayed on site for three hours, but didn't find any survivors. “I think they are inside, all the missing people.”

He said he had been up early to check the weather to see if he could go fishing, and surmised that a sudden waterspout had struck the yacht.

“It could be that the mast broke, or the anchor at the prow pulled it, I don’t know,” he said.

Cocina said the crew and passengers hailed from a variety of countries: In addition to Britain and the United States, passengers and crew were from Antigua, France, Germany, Ireland, Myanmar, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Spain, he said.

Among the dead and missing, four were British, two were American, and one was a man with dual citizenship from Canada and Antigua, according to Luciano Pischedda, the Italian Coast Guard official overseeing the rescue operations.

The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch is deploying a team of four inspectors to Italy to conduct a preliminary assessment. The Foreign Commonwealth and Development office said it was “providing consular support to a number of British nationals and their families.”

Dutch foreign ministry spokesperson Casper Soetekouw said the lone Dutch citizen on board, a man, had been rescued and was not in life-threatening condition.

Lynch, once hailed as Britain’s king of technology, was cleared in June of fraud and conspiracy charges related to Hewlett Packard’s $11 billion takeover of his company, Autonomy Corp.

The not-guilty verdicts followed an 11-week criminal trial in San Francisco that delved into the history of HP’s  2011 acquisition  of Autonomy, a business software firm founded by Lynch.

The  fraud accusations  represented a dramatic turn in the fortunes of an entrepreneur once described as the Bill Gates of Britain — a title he seemed to live up to when he netted an $800 million from the Autonomy sale.

The acquittal vindicated Lynch, who had vehemently denied wrong doing and portrayed HP as a technological train wreck.

“I’m looking forward to returning the UK and getting back to what I love most: my family and innovating in my field,” Lynch said in a statement released after the verdict.

The yacht, built in 2008 by the Italian firm Perini Navi, can accommodate 12 passengers in four double cabins, a triple and the master suite, plus crew accommodations, according to Charter World and Yacht Charters.

The vessel, which previously was named Salute when it flew under a Dutch flag, featured a sleek, minimalist interior of light wood with Japanese accents designed by the French designer Remi Tessier, according to descriptions and photos on the charter sites.

Twickets has announced it is lowering its charges after some Oasis fans had to pay more than £100 in extra fees to buy official resale tickets.

The site is where the band themselves is directing people to buy second-hand tickets for face value - having warned people against unofficial third party sellers like StubHub and Viagogo.

One person branded the extra fees "ridiculous" (see more in 10.10 post), after many people had already been left disappointed at the weekend when Ticketmaster's dynamic pricing pushed tickets up by three times the original advertised fee.

Twickets said earlier that it typically charged a fee of 10-15% of the face value of the tickets.

But it has since said it will lower the charge due to "exceptional demand" from Oasis fans - taking ownership of an issue in a way fans will hope others follow.

Richard Davies, Twickets founder, told the Money blog: "Due to the exceptional demand for the Oasis tour in 2025, Twickets have taken the decision to lower our booking fee to 10% and a 1% transactional fee (to cover bank charges) for all buyers of their tickets on our platform. In addition we have introduced a fee cap of £25 per ticket for these shows. Sellers of tickets already sell free of any Twickets charge.

"This ensures that Twickets remains hugely competitive against the secondary market, including sites such as Viagogo, Gigsberg and StubHub.

"Not only do these platforms inflate ticket prices way beyond their original face value but they also charge excessive booking fees, usually in the region of 30-40%. Twickets by comparison charges an average fee of around 12.5%"

The fee cap, which the Money blog understands is being implemented today, will apply to anyone who has already bought resale tickets through the site.

Mr Davies said Twickets was a "fan first" resale site and a "safe and affordable place" for people to trade unwanted tickets.

"The face value of a ticket is the total amount it was first purchased for, including any booking fee. Twickets does not set the face value price, that is determined by the event and the original ticketing company. The price listed on our platform is set by the seller, however no one is permitted to sell above the face-value on Twickets, and every ticket is checked before listing that it complies with this policy," he said.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people have complained to the regulator about how Oasis tickets were advertised ahead of going on sale.

The Advertising Standards Authority said it had received 450 complaints about Ticketmaster adverts for the gigs.

Some  expressed their anger on social media , as tickets worth £148 were being sold for £355 on the site within hours of release, due to the "dynamic pricing" systems.

A spokesperson from ASA said the complainants argue that the adverts made "misleading claims about availability and pricing".

They added: "We're carefully assessing these complaints and, as such, can't comment any further at this time.

"To emphasise, we are not currently investigating these ads."

Ticketmaster said it does not set prices and its website says this is down to the "event organiser" who "has priced these tickets according to their market value".

Despite traditionally being an affordable staple of British cuisine, the average price for a portion of fish and chips has risen by more than 50% in the past five years to nearly £10, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Sonny and Shane "the codfather" Lee told Sky News of the challenges that owning J-Henry's Fish and Chip Shop brings and why prices have skyrocketed.

"Potatoes, fish, utilities, cooking oil - so many things [are going up]," he said.

Shane also said that he is used to one thing at a time increasing in price, but the outlook today sees multiple costs going up all at once.

"Potatoes [were] priced right up to about £25 a bag - the previous year it was about £10 a bag," Sonny said, noting a bad harvest last year.

He said the business had tried hake as a cheaper fish option, but that consumers continued to prefer the more traditional, but expensive, cod and haddock.

"It's hard and we can we can absorb the cost to a certain extent, but some of it has to be passed on," Shane added.

After a long Saturday for millions of Oasis fans in online queues, the culture secretary says surge pricing - which pushed the price of some tickets up by three times their original advertised value to nearly £400 - will be part of the government's review of the ticket market.

On today's episode of the Daily podcast, host Niall Paterson speaks to secondary ticketing site Viagogo. While it wasn’t part of dynamic pricing, it has offered resale tickets for thousands of pounds since Saturday.

Matt Drew from the company accepts the industry needs a full review, while Adam Webb, from the campaign group FanFair Alliance, explains the changes it would like to see.

We've covered the fallout of the Oasis sale extensively in the Money blog today - see the culture secretary's comments on the "utterly depressing" inflated pricing in our post at 6.37am, and Twickets, the official Oasis resale site, slammed by angry fans for its "ridiculous" added fees at 10.10am.

The growing backlash culminated in action from Twickets - the company said it would lower its charges after some fans had to pay more than £100 in extra fees for resale tickets (see post at 15.47).

Last week we reported that employers will have to offer flexible working hours - including a four-day week - to all workers under new government plans.

To receive their full pay, employees would still have to work their full hours but compressed into a shorter working week - something some workplaces already do.

Currently, employees can request flexible hours as soon as they start at a company but employers are not legally obliged to agree.

The Labour government now wants to make it so employers have to offer flexible hours from day one, except where it is "not reasonably feasible".

You can read more of the details in this report by our politics team:

But what does the public think about this? We asked our followers on LinkedIn to give their thoughts in an unofficial poll.

It revealed that the overwhelming majority of people support the idea to compress the normal week's hours into fewer days - some 83% of followers said they'd choose this option over a standard five-day week.

But despite the poll showing a clear preference for a compressed week, our followers appeared divided in the comments.

"There's going to be a huge brain-drain as people move away from companies who refuse to adapt with the times and implement a 4 working week. This will be a HUGE carrot for many orgs," said Paul Burrows, principal software solutions manager at Reality Capture.

Louise McCudden, head of external affairs at MSI Reproductive Choices, said she wasn't surprised at the amount of people choosing longer hours over fewer days as "a lot of people" are working extra hours on a regular basis anyway.

But illustrator and administrative professional Leslie McGregor noted the plan wouldn't be possible in "quite a few industries and quite a few roles, especially jobs that are customer centric and require 'round the clock service' and are heavily reliant upon people in trades, maintenance, supply and transport".

"Very wishful thinking," she said.

Paul Williamson had a similar view. He said: "I'd love to know how any customer first service business is going to manage this."

We reported earlier that anyone with O2 Priority will have their free weekly Greggs treats replaced by £1 monthly Greggs treats - see 6.21am post.

But did you know there are loads of other ways to get food from the nation's most popular takeaway for free or at a discount?

Downloading the Greggs app is a good place to start - as the bakery lists freebies, discounts and special offers there regularly.

New users also get rewards just for signing up, so it's worth checking out.

And there's a digital loyalty card which you can add virtual "stamps" to with each purchase to unlock discounts or other freebies.

Vodafone rewards

Seriously begrudged Virgin Media O2 customers may want to consider switching providers.

The Vodafone Rewards app, VeryMe, sometimes gives away free Greggs coffees, sausage rolls, sweet treats and more to customers.

Monzo bank account holders can grab a sausage roll (regular or vegan), regular sized hot drink, doughnut or muffin every week.

Birthday cake

Again, you'll need the Greggs award app for this one - which will allow you to claim one free cupcake, cream cake or doughnut for your birthday each year.

Octopus customers

Octopus Energy customers with smart meters can claim one free drink each week, in-store from Greggs (or Caffè Nero).

The Greggs freebie must be a regular size hot drink.

Make new friends

If you're outgoing (and hungry), it may be worth befriending a Greggs staff member.

The staff discount at Greggs is 50% on own-produced goods and 25% off branded products.

If you aren't already aware, Iceland offers four Greggs sausage rolls in a multi-pack for £3.

That means, if you're happy to bake it yourself, you'll only be paying 74p per sausage roll.

Millions of Britons could receive extra cash to help with the cost of living this winter after the government extended the Household Support Fund.

A £421m pot will be given to local councils in England to distribute, while £79m will go to the devolved administrations.

The fund will now be available until April 2025 having been due to run out this autumn.

Councils decide how to dish out their share of the fund but it's often via cash grants or vouchers.

Many councils also use the cash to work with local charities and community groups to provide residents with key appliances, school uniforms, cookery classes and items to improve energy efficiency in the home.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves said: "The £22bn blackhole inherited from the previous governments means we have to take tough decisions to fix the foundations of our economy.

"But extending the Household Support Fund is the right thing to do - provide targeted support for those who need it most as we head into the winter months."

The government has been criticised for withdrawing universal winter fuel payments for pensioners of up to £300 this winter - with people now needing to be in receipt of certain means-tested benefits to qualify.

People should contact their local council for details on how to apply for the Household Support Fund - they can find their council  here .

Lloyds Bank app appears to have gone down for many, with users unable to see their transactions.

Down Detector, which monitors site outages, has seen more than 600 reports this morning.

It appears to be affecting online banking as well as the app.

There have been some suggestions the apparent issue could be due to an update.

Another disgruntled user said: "Absolutely disgusting!! I have an important payment to make and my banking is down. There was no warning given prior to this? Is it a regular maintenance? Impossible to get hold of someone to find out."

A Lloyds Bank spokesperson told Sky News: "We know some of our customers are having issues viewing their recent transactions and our app may be running slower than usual.

"We're sorry about this and we're working to have everything back to normal soon."

We had anger of unofficial resale prices, then Ticketmaster's dynamic pricing - and now fees on the official resale website are causing consternation among Oasis fans.

The band has encouraged anyone wanting resale tickets to buy them at face value from Ticketmaster or Twickets - after some appeared for £6,000 or more on other sites.

"Tickets appearing on other secondary ticketing sites are either counterfeit or will be cancelled by the promoters," Oasis said.

With that in mind, fans flocked to buy resale tickets from the sites mentioned above - only to find further fees are being added on.

Mainly Oasis, a fan page, shared one image showing a Twickets fee for two tickets as high as £138.74.

"Selling the in demand tickets completely goes against the whole point of their company too… never mind adding a ridiculous fee on top of that," the page shared.

Fan Brad Mains shared a photo showing two tickets priced at £337.50 each (face value of around £150, but increased due to dynamic pricing on Saturday) - supplemented by a £101.24 Twickets fee.

That left him with a grand total of £776.24 to pay for two tickets.

"Actually ridiculous this," he  said on X .

"Ticketmaster inflated price then sold for 'face value' on Twickets with a £100 fee. 2 x £150 face value tickets for £776, [this] should be illegal," he added.

Twickets typically charges between 10-15% of the ticket value as its own fee.

We have approached the company for comment.

Separately, the government is now looking at the practice of dynamic pricing - and we've had a response to that from the Competition and Markets Authority this morning.

It said: "We want fans to get a fair deal when they go to buy tickets on the secondary market and have already taken action against major resale websites to ensure consumer law is being followed properly.

"But we think more protections are needed for consumers here, so it is positive that the government wants to address this. We now look forward to working with them to get the best outcomes for fans and fair-playing businesses."

Consumer protection law does not ban dynamic pricing and it is a widely used practice. However, the law also states that businesses should not mislead consumers about the price they must pay for a product, either by providing false or deceptive information or by leaving out important information or providing it too late.

It's a false start to the end of the summer holidays in the City.

While London is mostly back at work, trading is fairly subdued due to the US Labor (that's labour, as in work) Day holiday.

US markets will not open again until Tuesday.

There's little direction across Europe with the FTSE 100 trading nine points down at 8,365.

Leading the gainers was Rightmove - up 24%. The property search website is the subject of a possible cash and shares takeover offer by Australian rival REA.

The company is a division of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

One other point to note is the continuing fluctuation in oil prices.

Brent crude is 0.7% down at the start of the week at $76.

Dragging the cost lower is further evidence of weaker demand in China.

Australia's REA Group is considering a takeover of Rightmove, in a deal which could be worth about £4.36bn.

REA Group said in a statement this morning there are "clear similarities" between the companies, which have "highly aligned cultural values".

Rightmove is the UK's largest online property portal, while REA is Australia's largest property website.

It employs more than 2,800 people and is majority-owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp,.

REA Group said: "REA sees a transformational opportunity to apply its globally leading capabilities and expertise to enhance customer and consumer value across the combined portfolio, and to create a global and diversified digital property company, with number one positions in Australia and the UK.

"There can be no certainty that an offer will be made, nor as to the terms on which any offer may be made."

Rightmove has been approached for comment.
