Superyachts, the pinnacle of the entire yachting industry, started coming to the Croatian coast a few years ago, and with the arrival of larger ships, so began the growth of interest in high-quality, professional crews in the Adriatic.

How to get a job on a superyacht?

Crew size depends on the size of the yacht. While smaller vessels are served by one or two stewardesses, a cook and a skipper, larger floating villas have up to ten crew members, each and every one of them trained in a specific necessary skill.

The first requirement for any crew member candidate is a doctor’s note confirming the person is completely healthy and free of all acute and chronic ailments that might prevent them from fulfilling their duties. Unlike on land, where doctors are a mere phone call away, medical emergencies at sea might take hours to resolve. Future crew members are thus expected to be in perfect health. The next step, also required, is STCW training – basic safety training (D2) and maritime security awareness training course (D42), which teach skills such as survival at sea, first aid, fire management, safety policies, responsibility and preparedness in crisis situations aboard. This training, to borrow a sports metaphor, will get you through the preliminaries.

Practice makes perfect

For stewardesses, Luxury Yacht Crew Training program offers more than the basics, and teaches them everything about life aboard, member duties, crew hierarchy, etiquette, communication with guests from various cultures, food and beverage serving and presentation, as well as maintenance on the expected level. Seeing how extensive this basic skill set is, it is obvious most of the program is practical, allowing candidates to teach from their experience, not only form materials.

Field training aside, the entire crew training course does require a lot of reading and testing, especially when it comes to use of modern technology. Ultimately, a balanced education course offers enough of both – theoretical and practical knowledge. Attaining certain level of knowledge without obtaining proper certification may prevent candidates from being hired in the future, especially in larger yachting centers, on crewing up events or through agencies who often have to pick the right candidates from thousands of applications.

A standard Junior Stewardess Salary is starting from 2500€/month. You will also have at least 38 days paid leave per year in your contract. 

Many Yachts have bonuses and tips. When earning tips you can earn €20 000-€30 000/season only in tips. 

How do I find stewardess day work ?

We are looking for a Steward/Stewardess for a newly built 27m motor yacht. This

position begins ASAP until the end of October and will be based in Croatia.

The ideal candidate will be a hard worker with a positive, can-do attitude that takes

instruction well and has an impeccable attention to detail. They will be polite,

precise, well-organized and keen to learn and to improve their skills. Duties include

beds/heads, laundry, service, provisioning, helping with lines & fenders on manouvers and detailing.

They will also have at least 1 year previous yachting

experience on a similar sized vessels and in the same position.

With over 1.000 islands and its long mainland coastline, Croatia offers more than enough for yacht owners, charter guests and crew to explore. Each island in Croatia has its own distinct charm, making exploring it not just enjoyable but also ensuring everyone finds their favourite spot. All it takes is knowing where to look.

If you are planning to spend the Mediterranean season in Croatia, these are the spots to look out:

1. Mljet Island: Exploring the Unspoiled Nature

Mljet is one of the greenest islands of the Adriatic. It's also home to the Mljet National Park which covers the entire north-west part of the island. Keep in mind that, since this is a National Park, the use of Jet Skis is not allowed.

The park is known for Veliko and Malo Jezero, two linked salt lakes, with a cafe that once was a 12th-century monastery, located on an islet in Veliko. The neighboring Polace provides picturesque views, while the island's heart shelters the captivating blue Odysseus cave, a beautiful blue limestone grotto accessible by boat; where Odysseus allegedly met the nymph Calypso who nursed him back to health on the island.

2. Hvar Island: Home of Jet Set and Nights Out

From British aristocracy to Hollywood royalty, Hvar has been luring A-listers for more than a century. Hvar is both name of the island and the town of Hvar which is sometimes compared to St. Tropez in a way that it's a small fishing town turned into a restaurant and nightlife hotspot.

Hvar Island is covered in ancient olive trees, fields of lavender and vineyards and it's the sunniest island in the Adriatic, which helps it have one of the best wines around. For a private day of swimming and fun, it's a good idea to spend the day at Crvene Stijene (Red Rocks). It's a hidden spot accessible only by boat, with an impressive vertical red-coloured limestone cliff.

3. Paklinski Islands: Best for relaxing after a busy day

Just opposite the famous Hvar you will find a series of little islands and bays, perfect for relaxing after a busy day in Hvar. These islands are known as Paklinski islands and the most famous of them is Sveti Klement. St. Klement, the largest of the islands, is home to Palmižana, a bohemian bay dotted with art installations, vibrant botanical gardens and chic restaurants.

You can also enjoy a day in Uvala Tarsce, a perfect swimming spot where you can tie stern to the rocks and explore the turquoise waters. If you are looking for some beach fun during the day and all-night parties after dark, definitely try the 'Carpe Diem' Beach on the island of Marinkovac. This is where you will find the craziest all-night parties.

4. Korcula: A Green Island With a Town Known as "Little Dubrovnik"

Korcula is an island rich in vineyards, lush pine forests and olive groves and it harbours an old town dotted with medieval squares and houses. Often referred to as 'Little Dubrovnik,' Korčula offers an equally mesmerizing blend of history, culture and natural beauty, all on a more intimate and relaxed scale. The heritage of Korcula is celebrated each week with the traditional Moreska Sword Dance.

From Korcula, it's easy to pop over to the lovely Badija Island - an island inhabited only by a monastery and herds of deers that will often let you feed them.

5. Krka National Park: Magical Waterfalls Near Sibenik in Dalmatia

Krka National Park is one of Croatia's top attractions and offers stunning waterfalls cascading into emerald pools where swimming is allowed. Yacht tenders are not allowed in the National Park so the tour has to be arranged and guests can be accompanied by yacht crew.

The closest you will be able to come to the park will be Skradin, which is a town just at the entrance to the National Park area.

6. Kornati: Archipelago of Lunar Landscapes

Kornati Islands are an archipelago consisting of 140 uninhabited islands and islets, 89 of which are part of the Kornati National Park. This number of islands spread over 300 km2 makes it one of the densest groups of islands in the Mediterranean; meaning there are lots of places to hide and enjoy the peace and quiet of the lunar landscape and deserted bays.

Since there are no sources of freshwater, the islands are mostly barren and riddled with cracks, caves, grottoes and rugged cliffs. The whiteness of the islands against the deep-blue Adriatic makes for an eerie and wonderful sight on your Croatia cruising itinerary.

7. Brijuni Islands: Private Retreat of Yugoslavian President Tito

Brijuni is a National park and UNESCO World Heritage Site that served as the private retreat of the Yugoslavian president Tito. Here he hosted many world rulers who would sometimes gift him animals. You can still see antelopes and mountain zebras roaming around. Among his visitors was also former Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi, who presented him with two elephants, one of which still roams the main island today.

The island is today covered with meadows, parks, and oak and laurel forests making them a great place to relax, enjoy nature and some light recreation. It also hosts tennis courts in the deep shade of century-old pines and a golf course that provides a unique experience, sometimes in the company of deer, hares and peacocks.

8. Lastovo Island: Remote Island Ideal for Stargazing

Lastovo is Croatia's most remote inhabited island with a population of less than a thousand so it is ideal for by those looking for peace, quiet and nature. It's an absolutely beautiful island and a good spot to spend the day swimming, relaxing and having fun with water toys.

Its remoteness allows for very little light pollution so this is an especially good place for stargazing. If you are visiting in mid-August, you might be lucky to see the yearly meteor shower called 'Suze svetog Lovre', which is a great experience to enjoy peaceful or romantic surroundings.

9. Vis Island: Rural Charm and Hidden Treasures of the Mamma Mia Island

Vis is a beautiful unspoiled island where Mamma Mia 2 was filmed and where you can find some of the clearest water you've ever seen.

The island was cut off from foreign visitors from the 1950s right up until 1989 due to military activity so that helped preserve the island from being spoiled by development. Its military past left behind a hidden 110m submarine tunnel that you are actually free to sail in with your tender. The tunnel is carved out from a Vis hill and is located in a bay north of Vis town.

Another hidden, but slightly more popular place for those yachting in Croatia, is Stiniva Beach, a unique beach that's hidden away in a sheltered cove. Just next to Vis is also Bisevo Island where you will find the Blue Cave, where sunlight reflects through a hole under the surface to bathe the cave in a vivid, aquamarine light.

10. Dubrovnik: Timeless Adriatic Charm

This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers an enchanting blend of historical charm and modern luxury, perfect for yacht owners seeking a unique blend of culture and relaxation. As you approach from the sea, you're greeted by the awe-inspiring view of terracotta rooftops set against the shimmering turquoise waters of the Adriatic, all framed by centuries-old fortified walls.

In the well-equipped Port of Gruž, you'll find excellent marina facilities including secure berths, refuelling services and maintenance support.

Just opposite Dubrovnik is Lokrum Island, an oasis of tranquility in the Adriatic Sea. This island with lush botanical gardens and inhabited by peacocks and rabbits, is a paradise for nature enthusiasts.

11. Rovinj: Italian Charm and Fine Dining

Rovinj is a little colourful medieval town build by Venetians so it offers a good portion of that Italian charm. Most of the old town is situated within little peninsula so this is a good place to walk around old town's cobbled narrow streets and Venetian buildings.

Rovinj is also a home to a Michelin-star restaurant Mulini, hidden in the streets of the old town.

If you are looking for a meal with a view, you can book 'La Puntulina' restaurant right on the rocks next to the sea for a more relaxed romantic vibe, or 'Cap Aureo' restaurant overlooking the old town Rovinj for a more sophisticated feel.

How did the superyacht carrying tech tycoon Mike Lynch sink off Sicily?

Lynch’s was among five bodies retrieved by divers on Wednesday after the Bayesian sank, according to reports.

Five bodies were retrieved on Wednesday, and a sixth on Friday , by divers searching for those missing from the superyacht which sank off the Sicilian coast in the Mediterranean. The bodies found include British tech tycoon Mike Lynch , the UK’s Telegraph reported. The bodies have not been formally identified by the authorities yet.

It is understood that they were retrieved from inside the sunken yacht, which is reported to be lying on its side on the sea bed at a depth of 50 metres

This brings the total death toll to seven; one person, reported to be the chef from the yacht, was confirmed dead on Monday.

The yacht capsized on Monday at about 5am (03:00 GMT) after it was hit by stormy weather caused by a “waterspout” – or mini tornado – according to Italian authorities.

The cruise had reportedly been undertaken to celebrate the acquittal of Lynch in a fraud trial in the United States in June.

His co-defendant in the trial, Steve Chamberlain, who was also acquitted in June, was killed after being hit by a car on Saturday.

Here’s what is known so far about the yacht, those on board and who died or were still missing after it sank.

Who was on the superyacht which sank?

According to the Italian coastguard, the 56-metre-long (184 feet) British-flagged yacht, called the Bayesian, was carrying 22 people, including 10 crew members.

One person has been confirmed dead after rescuers located a body on Monday at a depth of about 50 metres (164 feet), the AFP news agency reported. Officials have not yet given the name of the deceased but Italian media reported that he was the yacht’s chef.

AFP reported on Tuesday that divers had spotted a second body inside the sunk boat, quoting a source close to the search operation. Authorities have not confirmed it yet, though.

While not all the names of the six missing passengers were not made public officially, they were understood to include:

• Mike Lynch, 59, a British-Irish technology businessman who co-founded British tech company Autonomy in 1996 and was once likened to Microsoft founder Bill Gates; he earned a PhD from Cambridge University
• Hannah Lynch, 18, Mike’s daughter, who had just completed her final school exams and was due to begin a degree in English at the University of Oxford this September
• Jonathan Bloomer, the 70-year-old British chairman of Morgan Stanley bank and the Hiscox insurance company, was confirmed as missing by Hiscox CEO Aki Hussain
• Judy Bloomer, Jonathan’s wife, was also confirmed as missing by Hussain
• Chris Morvillo, from British international law firm Clifford Chance, was confirmed to be missing by Salvatore Cocina, head of the Civil Protection in Sicily

Fifteen people, including Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, were rescued. Among others rescued were Charlotte Golunski, 36, a board director at Luminance, a software startup founded by Lynch; her husband, James; and their one-year-old daughter, Sophie. Golunski is understood to have kept her daughter alive by holding her above her head while she was in the water.

All those rescued are in stable condition, although eight of them have been hospitalised, according to Italian news agency Adnkronos.

What do we know about the Bayesian?

Italian shipbuilder Perini Navi constructed the superyacht in 2008 and refitted it in 2020, according to the company’s website.

The yacht’s owner is listed as Revtom Limited, a firm solely owned by Lynch’s wife, Bacares, according to company documents seen by the Reuters news agency.

It was formerly called Salute but was renamed Bayesian after Lynch’s PhD thesis and his software that earned him a fortune. Both of these were based on the statistical Bayesian theory, championed by mathematician Thomas Bayes.

Where was the Bayesian last seen and where was it going?

The Bayesian was last located on Sunday evening in the Tyrrhenian Sea, east of the harbour at Porticello, according to ship tracking websites Vessel Finder and Marine Traffic.

Porticello is a port city located near the Sicilian capital, Palermo.

The yacht had departed on August 14 from the Sicilian port of Milazzo. Its destination was reported to be the Italian city of Bagheria by the tracking websites.

Did a waterspout cause the yacht to sink?

Italian authorities reported that the stormy conditions that caused the yacht to sink were triggered by a waterspout.

A waterspout is a rotating column of whirling air and water mist – sometimes referred to as a mini tornado – according to the website of the US National Ocean Service.

The website adds that a tornadic waterspout is a tornado that forms over water or moves from land to water. They are similar to land tornadoes and can occur during thunderstorms.

Who is Stephen Chamberlain and how is he connected to this case?

Chamberlain, 52, was Lynch’s co-defendant in a fraud trial in San Francisco, which saw both men acquitted in June.

Chamberlain died in a hospital from injuries sustained when he was hit by a car while out running in Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom, on Saturday. His death was confirmed by his lawyer Gary Lincenberg in a statement on Monday.

The fraud case related to Hewlett Packard’s $11bn acquisition of Autonomy, the firm Lynch grew into the UK’s leading tech company before it spectacularly unravelled after being bought by HP in 2011.

Lynch was extradited to the US in May 2023 and he spent more than a year under house arrest before his acquittal. Chamberlain was the former vice president of finance at Autonomy.

The yacht trip was supposedly a celebration of Lynch’s acquittal.

How did the rescue operation unfold?

Specialist divers began a search anew for the six missing people on Tuesday. Three divers, equipped with oxygen cylinders, descended beneath the surface to examine the wreck.

They initially faced difficulty accessing the yacht’s chambers because they were constricted by furniture.

An investigation into the wreck has been opened by prosecutors in the nearby Sicilian town of Termini Imerese.

What have survivors and witnesses said about the incident?

“It was terrible. The boat was hit by really strong wind and shortly after it went down,” survivor Golunski told the ANSA news agency.

She added that she had lost hold of her one-year-old daughter in the water for “two seconds”, but then managed to grab her and hold her up over the waves until a lifeboat inflated and they were both pulled to safety. She reported that people were screaming.

Karsten Borner, a captain of a nearby yacht who witnessed the sinking, said he had turned on the engine of his ship to prevent collision with the Bayesian. “We managed to keep the ship in position and after the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone,” he told reporters.

Bloomer’s wife, Judy, is a trustee of the Eve Appeal, a UK-based gynaecological cancer research charity. Athena Lamnisos, the CEO of the Eve Appeal, was quoted by the BBC saying she was “deeply shocked to hear the news that our very dear friend and her husband Jonathan, are among those missing”.

Family clings to hope of air pocket in sunken superyacht as debris hampers search

PORTICELLO, Sicily — Divers searching for six missing people from a superyacht which sank off the coast of Sicily told NBC News Wednesday that debris inside the vessel, as well as its depth, were making their job difficult.  

As hopes of finding anyone alive dwindled, the divers said that they had managed to force open one of the Bayesian’s access doors but access to the cabins where people could be trapped was being hampered by detritus. 

The divers, who were not authorized to speak publicly, added that the depth of the wreck meant they were left with only 10 minutes to search the 184-foot yacht once they reached it. Then they had to return to the surface, they said. 

On Wednesday, the dock where they set off from was swarming with vehicles, boats and rescuers. Nearby tourists, reporters and photographers have gathered, eager for news. Helicopters occasionally fly over the area.  

British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and five of the 22 other people who were aboard the yacht remain unaccounted for and are believed to be trapped in the Bayesian’s hull, nearly 170 feet underwater.

Lynch's 18-year-old daughter, Hannah; Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, Judy; and Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife, Neda, are also missing. 

Officials confirmed Monday that at least one person, the ship’s cook, had died. 

Rescuers said Tuesday that there might be people trapped inside the cabins, especially considering the timing of the storm, but that they had so far been unable to check through the ship’s portholes.

“The operations are long and complex,” Italy’s national fire department, whose diving teams have been participating in the search, said on X . 

Italy's coast guard also said Tuesday that divers were also using a remotely-operated underwater vehicle to aid in the search.

The Bayesian is owned by a firm linked to Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, who was one of the 15 people rescued Monday after it capsized near Sicily’s main city of Palermo in what Italian officials called a “violent storm.” 

Built by Italian shipbuilder Perini Navi in 2008, the U.K.-registered Bayesian could carry 12 guests and a crew of up to 10, according to online specialist yacht sites. Its nearly 250-foot mast is the tallest aluminum sailing mast in the world, according to CharterWorld Luxury Yacht Charters.  

Lynch, who was regularly described in U.K. media as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” was acquitted by a San Francisco jury of fraud charges stemming from the 2011 sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion.

Prosecutors alleged that Lynch and Autonomy’s vice president for finance, Stephen Chamberlain, had padded the firm’s finances ahead of the sale. Lynch’s lawyers argued that HP was so eager to acquire Autonomy that it failed to adequately check the books .

The Mediterranean sailing vacation was designed to be a celebration for Lynch, who brought Morvillo, one of his U.S. lawyers and Bloomer, who testified in his defense, on the trip.

Bloomer’s twin brother, Jeremy, told the BBC on Tuesday the family was “coping the best we can” and he was hopeful there might still be air pockets inside the hull. 

Chamberlain was not aboard the Bayesian.

In what appears to be a tragic coincidence, a car struck and killed Chamberlain on Saturday as he was jogging in a village about 68 miles north of London, local police said.

Mike Lynch's wife walked on broken glass to escape the sinking superyacht: report

The wife of missing UK billionaire Mike Lynch has described how the superyacht they were traveling on tilted before sinking, and reportedly had to walk on broken glass to escape it.

Speaking to Italy's La Repubblica, Angela Bacares said that she and her husband were woken up at 4 a.m. on Monday when the yacht, the Bayesian, "tilted."

The 57-year-old told the publication that they initially weren't worried, and she got out of bed to see what was happening. Glass then shattered, causing confusion.

Bacares sustained injuries to her feet likely caused by walking on broken glass during the sinking, the outlet reported.

The injuries have confined her to a wheelchair, and she also has bandages on other parts of her body, the report said.

The 183ft superyacht was carrying 22 people when it capsized early Monday morning while docked outside the Sicilian port of Porticello. Six people, including Lynch and his daughter, remain missing, while one body has been recovered, local media reported.

Italian news agency Ansa reported that the vessel capsized when a sea tornado, or water spout, hit the area during sudden storms.

It cited witnesses saying that the boat's mast broke while it was anchored in the storm, causing it to lose balance and capsize.

It said that rescuers believe the bodies of the missing are trapped in the vessel, which is about 50 meters below the water's surface.

The director general of Sicily's civil protection agency, Salvatore Cocina,  told the BBC that Hannah Lynch, Mike Lynch's 18-year-old daughter, is among those missing .

Kamala Harris’s long political résumé is well known and expansive: Before becoming vice president, she was a U.S. senator. Before that, she was the California attorney general and the district attorney in San Francisco. Here are some things you might not know about the Democratic Party’s nominee for president.

1. Her name translates to “lotus flower” in Sanskrit . It’s a near-mythical symbol in Indian culture, representing beauty, prosperity and fertility and is associated with the deity Sri-Lakshmi.

2. She has broken the most ties in U.S. Senate history. As vice president, she has often been called upon to cast a deciding vote when the Senate is deadlocked. Last year, she cast her 32nd tiebreaker, beating the previous record of 31 set by John C. Calhoun, who was vice president from 1825 to 1832.

3. She’s short (compared to presidents past). Five-foot-four, to be exact. If elected, she would be one of the two shortest presidents in American history. (The other is James Madison.) But her height checks in at just about average for an American woman.

4 . She knows how to deliver fries with that . Ms. Harris worked at McDonald’s between her freshman and sophomore years in college. She fried the fries, worked the ice cream machine and staffed the cash register.

5. Her best friend set her up with her future husband, Doug Emhoff . Their first “date” was an hourlong phone call, and they made plans to get dinner that weekend in Los Angeles, where he was based. “I could hardly wait to fly down,” Ms. Harris wrote.

6. She loves Doritos. In her memoir, she described the night in 2016 that Donald J. Trump won the presidency (which was the same night she got elected to the U.S. Senate). “No one really knew what to say or do,” she wrote. “I sat down on the couch with Doug and ate an entire family-size bag of Classic Doritos. 8. Her prosecutorial style left some in Washington flummoxed. When Ms. Harris served in the Senate, she drew attention for her sharp questioning of witnesses. In 2017, as she was grilling then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions about his role as campaign surrogate for Mr. Trump and contact with Russian officials, a visibly flustered Mr. Sessions objected. “I’m not able to be rushed this fast,” he complained at one point. “It makes me nervous.”

9. She spent her high school years in Montreal . “It was a difficult transition,” she wrote, “since the only French I knew was from my ballet classes.”

10. She failed the California bar exam on her first try. “I couldn’t get my head around it,” she wrote. She soon realized her preparation amounted to “the most half-assed performance of my life.” She passed on her second attempt.

11. She tangled with Jamie Dimon. Ms. Harris got into a heated disagreement with Mr. Dimon, J.P. Morgan’s chief executive, when she was the attorney general of California. It happened during the financial crisis, when she was pursuing relief from big banks for homeowners who had faced foreclosure. “We were like dogs in a fight,” Ms. Harris recalled in her memoir. 12. But their most recent encounter was calmer. She eventually secured more than $20 billion in relief from the banks, and despite their history, Ms. Harris and Mr. Dimon had lunch at the White House in March.

13. She likes to cook . Ms. Harris loves food. She has ribbed her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, about his “ white guy tacos ,” shared her turkey cooking tips and said that she liked to read recipes to unwind . 14. She goes way back with Barack Obama. She hosted a San Francisco fund-raiser for his 2004 Senate run, then was the first major office holder in California to endorse his 2008 presidential bid, even as most Democratic heavyweights threw their support behind Hillary Clinton. The endorsement, seen by some as a political risk, paid off. Mr. Obama endorsed her bid for California attorney general in 2010, and on Tuesday he praised her as a uniter on a mission to “build a country that is more secure and more just, more equal and more free.”

15. But she once turned down a job offer in his administration. It was 2014, and Eric Holder, Mr. Obama’s attorney general, called her and said he was planning to step down. He asked if she was interested in succeeding him. She considered the offer but ultimately declined.

16. Mr. Obama once publicly opined about Ms. Harris’s looks. The former president called Ms. Harris “by far the best-looking attorney general in the country” — and later apologized. The remark came at a fund-raiser in 2013, right after he also complimented her on her smarts and dedication to the law.

17. Her grandfather was a diplomat. Ms. Harris’s maternal grandfather, P.V. Gopalan, was a civil servant in India. When she was a child, Mr. Gopalan served as a diplomat in Zambia. She has said he was among her “ favorite people ” and “ subconsciously influenced ” how she thinks.

18. She was a political activist in college. During her freshman year at Howard University in Washington, D.C., she spent many weekends on the National Mall protesting apartheid in South Africa.

20. She also belongs to a prominent, invite-only nonprofit for Black women. Ms. Harris joined The Links Incorporated in 2018. It’s one of the oldest groups of its kind in America — a service organization focused on Black Americans and other people of African ancestry. Members have included Rosa Parks, Betty Shabazz and the civil rights lawyer Constance Baker Motley.

21. Her footwear is distinct. Ms. Harris has a large collection of Chuck Taylors: a black pair, a white pair, Chucks with and without laces, Chucks for hot and cold weather, and “the platform kind for when I’m wearing a pantsuit.”

ROME — The final body has been retrieved from the wreckage of a sunken yacht off Sicily, authorities said Friday, bringing to seven the number of people who died in the disaster.

“I can confirm it to you, the last victim inside the hull has been found,” said Cosimo Nicastro, a spokesman for the Italian coast guard.

Nicastro did not confirm the identity of the final body, but a senior Italian government official told The Washington Post that it has been confirmed to be that of Hannah Lynch, the teenage daughter of British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch , who also died. Hannah Lynch, 18, was the last passenger missing since the Bayesian sank in a storm of the northern coast of Sicily on Monday.

Fifteen people, including Lynch’s wife and Hannah’s mother, Angela Bacares, were rescued shortly after the Bayesian sank. The body of the yacht’s chef, Recaldo Thomas, was recovered during initial search efforts.

Four bodies were pulled from the wreckage Wednesday. They were identified as those of two couples: Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International; Judy Bloomer, a charity trustee; Chris Morvillo, a partner at the law firm Clifford Chance in New York; and Neda Morvillo, a jeweler.

Friends of Hannah Lynch, paid tribute to a “warm and beautiful soul” and called her loss “unbearable.”

“Being with Hannah made me feel whole and happy. She is the most special friend anyone could ask for,” said her friend Katya Lewis, in a statement provided by the Lynch family’s representatives.

Hannah was “sincere, dedicated, fiercely intelligent and genuinely kind. I’ll always remember her smiling,” said Gracie Lea, her classmate at Latymer Upper School in London, which she attended.

Her teacher Jon Mitropoulos-Monk said Hannah “combined sky-high intellectual ability with warmth and enthusiasm.” He said Hannah “devoured” works of English literature, scoring high marks in her national exams, and had been due to attend the University of Oxford to study English, “a goal she had worked so hard towards.”

“I taught Hannah for four years. I will remember her for what she taught me: kindness, compassion and commitment,” he added.

The Bayesian is owned by a company controlled by Bacares, and several of the passengers had business or legal ties to Lynch. Morvillo represented Lynch in a recently concluded legal battle. The voyage was intended to be a celebration of Lynch’s acquittal in the United States of fraud charges, Britain’s Telegraph newspaper has reported .

Lynch, 59, co-founded Autonomy, once Britain’s largest software company, and the cybersecurity firm Darktrace, among other ventures.

He sold Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard in 2011 for more than $11 billion, but was subsequently accused of overvaluing the company and charged by the United States with fraud. He was acquitted on all counts by a federal court in San Francisco in June.

Divers from the Italian fire brigade have been working daily since Monday to recover the bodies, but the position of the yacht, and its narrow and cluttered passages, complicated the effort.
