What is a gigayacht and who owns the monster yacht in Port of Fort Pierce?
The yacht is the largest to visit fort pierce and can accommodate 24 guests and 36 crew..
It came through the Fort Pierce Inlet looking like the star of the Bravo reality TV show Below Deck Adventure .
Infinity, a nearly 400-foot-long gigayacht that features a pool and helipad, will be docked at the Port of Fort Pierce for the next month as unspecified work is performed on her at Derecktor Shipyards .
A nondisclosure agreement Derecktor signed with the yacht owner prohibits the company from discussing any information about it, according to spokesperson Justin Beard. But he did confirm it is the largest yacht ever docked at Derecktor, and added it could be the largest private yacht to ever transit the Fort Pierce Inlet.
Infinity is the 44th largest yacht in world and belongs to Harbor Freight owner Eric Smidt, according to Superyacht Times , a bimonthly industry newspaper. Smidt, 63, of Beverly Hills, California, is worth $9.7 billion — making him the 196th wealthiest person in the world, according to Forbes.

What is a megayacht, superyacht and gigayacht?
There is no official definition that differentiates these terms, and sources don't agree. But many in the industry consider a megayacht to be any vessel over 200 feet long and a gigayacht to be over 300 feet long. Superyacht is simply the more common term in Europe for a megayacht.
The largest yacht in the world is the 590-foot-long Azzam , according to Forbes.
Here are details on the Infinity, according to the Superyacht Times :
- Year launched: 2022
- Builder: Oceanco
- Builder's port: Alblasserdam, Netherlands
- Exact length: 383 feet, 10 inches (117 meters)
- Beam (width): 52 feet, 10 inches (16.1 meters)
- Gross tonnage: 4,978 tons
- Worth: $300 million
- Hull: Steel
- Superstructure: Aluminum
- Power: Two MTU diesel engines total 7,700 horsepower
- Speed: Cruise 16 knots, maximum 18 knots (21 mph)
St. Lucie County's air and seaport executive director said he doesn't know much about the work planned for the Infinity, which arrived here Monday, but it's a good sign for local businesses.
"The fact that it's here, at the Port of Fort Pierce, is a reflection of the advantages of the port that the county and community recognized when the county bought the facility in 2018," Stan Payne wrote in an email to TCPalm. "There are no obstacles (bridges, train tracks, utility wires) between the terminal and the ocean. It has a straight shot with a deep channel originally dug for larger cargo ships."
"(Infinity's) presence is also a reflection on how much progress has been made transforming a decades-old, tired cargo terminal into a modern marine repair facility for megayachts — a concept discussed for decades," he added.
Derecktor's decision to design the haul-out slip the way it did — leaving the bulkhead on the northern side of its property — is also an asset because yachts as large as Infinity can dock there.
"The terminal is busy and will get busier as the utility loop and paving project are completed so that the mobile boat hoist and the 12-plus acres of the terminal can be used to their full advantage," Payne said.

Billionaire superyacht showdown: who’s who in st. barths for new years 2020.

Gustavia Harbor in St. Barths
I make it an annual tradition to visit St. Barths during the holidays, and this year the island is looking the best it has in many years. Lush green landscapes, crystal clear and very warm waters, clean beaches, and famed resorts opening with stunning new additions. Locals tell me the hurricane that devastated the island ultimately led to much-needed improvements with infrastructure, and magically the island has turned green again.
The legendary superyacht showdown, started early with several high profile billionaires already anchored outside of Gustavia and neighboring St. Maarten, and Antigua. Many will stay throughout Christmas on the island of Antigua and then party with the traditional fireworks New Years Eve celebration in St Barths.
Superyacht showdown in St.Barths
Many of the resorts and hot spots, including one of my favorite restaurants Bonito, hosted New Year’s Eve parties, and iconic Nikki Beach offered superstar DJ Kygo. However, it is aboard the superyachts where the rich and famous ended up partying into the wee hours.

INTREPID yacht interior
The INTREPID yacht features interior design from the Damen Design Team. The INTREPID has no guest accommodations, as she is used as a support vessel for the INFINITY yacht. She has accommodation for 21 crew members and staff members.
She has several notable features that make her an ideal companion to the mothership. One of her most notable features is the helicopter deck aft.
The deck can receive a Eurocopter AS365 or Augusta Westland AW109 helicopter on board. The helicopter can then be lowered through the hangar into the below deck, where there is a helicopter workshop.
Along with the accommodations for the crew, she has 110 square meters of space concealed inside the yacht and 250 square meters of storage space for tenders and toys, as well as a dive center. The yacht has a fully equipped hospital on board.
The INTREPID yacht is one of two Sea Axe 6911 models built by Damen Yachting. She was delivered in 2016 from their shipyard in the Netherlands.
The shipbuilders penned the naval architecture and exterior design for INTREPID. She is the third-largest boat to be built by Damen Yachting, and she was last refitted in 2021.

The vessel artfully balances soft and rigid elements, too. The sheer line, for instance, starts off straight at the bow and then becomes a curved concave line at the center that swoops down toward the aft. The front canopies and bulwarks also cut interesting geometric shapes.
Despite being nearly 250 feet long and 47 feet wide, Infinite Jest still looks quite sporty. The low angle of the transom slope and the very long forward overhang together make the yacht appear long and slender. Of course, she also offers an abundance of deck space.
With a generous volume of approximately 1,680 GT, the yacht has plenty of room for entertaining indoors and out. The interior design was spearheaded by Sinot—it’s actually the first time Turquoise has worked with the Dutch firm. There are no images of the living quarters to share, but the team says the interior is “a dynamic experience of its own.” The layout includes one owner’s suite with a private deck and office, five guest cabins, and one VIP. There are also 10 double cabins for the crew and one captain’s cabin.
Another highlight is the oversized full-beam beach club. The sprawling space opens aft to the swim platform and has shell doors on either side that double as overwater terraces. The tender garage also sports a massive shell door that protects the tenders and toys within.
The yacht is on schedule for delivery in the second quarter of 2023. Turquoise also has six other vessels currently under construction. Sounds like Infinite Jest is getting a sequel.
