Tashiba 31 is a 35 ′ 4 ″ / 10.8 m monohull sailboat designed by Robert Perry and built by Ta Shing Yacht Building Ltd. between 1986 and 1988.

Drawing of Tashiba 31

Rig and Sails

Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

  • SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
  • D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
  • LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
  • LOA: Length overall in feet
  • Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet

Capsize Screening Formula

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)

From BlueWaterBoats.org :

The Tashiba 31, designed alongside her larger 36 foot sibling , represents the last of Bob Perry’s full-keeled production double-enders. Though outwardly compact, the interior is spacious with a luxurious finish that’s been a hallmark of the Taiwanese builder, Ta Shing.

Ta Shing commissioned Perry for the design of the boat and launched it in 1986. That year marked nearly a decade since the Taiwanese boatyard started a rise to prominence with the release of the popular and closely related Baba 30 double-ender (also Perry designed). It’s interesting to note despite the years that span the two designs the Baba 30 and the Tashiba 31 are mistaken to be variations on the same boat.

Make no mistakes however, the lighter and faster Tashiba 31 is wholly a different animal under scrutiny. Her hull form is a derivative of the Baba 40 . Perry tells us the Baba 40 was a radical departure to his previous full keelers, the 40 was really a full-keeled evolution of the famously fast fin-keeled Valiant 40 . It proved to be such a success in terms of performance and handling that Perry took the elements that worked and pushed them further. The leading edge of the keel was moved further aft, turn of the bilge got even firmer and the bow entry became finer.

In his book Yacht Design by Perry he reflects, “I think the Tashiba 31 and 36 mark the best boats I ever designed with modified full keels. The boats were fast, close-winded, stiff, and well balanced. I constantly got calls from owners telling me how they had “beat” a local contemporary design.”

The Tashiba 31 can be found in three variations. Two aft cockpit versions were offered; one with a seagoing quarter-berth (most popular) and another that had a forward stateroom and the head located aft (we’ve yet to see any of these). There was also a pilothouse version, something that’s unusual to see in a boat of this length, of which only two were built. All told, they did not sell as well as expected, at last count we found 26 boats listed in the owners registry (kindly put together by Alan Sugarman of the Baba / Panda / Tashiba owners group).

These boats (like all boats from the Ta Shing of that era) have garnered a loyal following. The build quality is exceptional and you’ll find most are in very good condition being well maintained by their owners.

Bluewater Sailboat – Tashiba 31

Also called: tashiba 31ph, ta shing 31, ta shing 31ph.

The Bluewater Sailboat Tashiba 31, designed with her larger 36-foot twin, is Bob Perry’s final full-keeled manufacturing double-ender. Though small on the outside, the interior is big and opulent, as is typical of Taiwanese builder Ta Shing.

Ta Shing commissioned Perry to design the boat, which was launched in 1986. It had been over a decade since the Taiwanese boatyard rose to fame with the production of the popular and closely comparable Baba 30 double-ender (also Perry designed). It’s worth noting that, despite the years between the two designs, the Baba 30 and the Tashiba 31 are frequently confused as variations on the same boat.

Make no mistake, the lighter and faster Tashiba 31 is a completely different animal. Her hull shape is a variation on the Baba 40. The Baba 40, was a radical departure from his earlier full keelers; the 40 was actually a full-keeled descendant of the renowned fast-fin-keeled Valiant 40. It was such a success in terms of performance and handling of the components that worked. The leading edge of the keel was pushed further forward, the bilge turn was tightened, and the bow entrance was fine-tuned.

The Bluewater Sailboats Tashiba 31 and 36 are the best boats ever designed with modified full keels. The boats are quick, close to the breeze, sturdy, and well-balanced.

The Tashiba 31 is available in three variants. There were two aft cockpit versions available: one with a seagoing quarter-berth (the most popular) and another with a forward stateroom and the head aft (we have yet to see either of them). There was also a pilothouse version, which is unusual for a boat of this length, and only two were made. Overall, they did not sell as well as planned, with 26 boats recorded in the owners registry (created kindly by Alan Sugarman of the Baba / Panda / Tashiba owners organization).

Quick Notes

These Bluewater sailboats, like all Ta Shing boats from that era, have a devoted following. The build quality is superb, and most are in very good shape, having been meticulously maintained by their owners.

Tashiba 31/40 Pilothouse

  • Add to quote

Looking for other Tashiba 31/40 Pilothouse owners to discuss anything involved in sailing and maintaining these boats. I purchased mine in January and have had a hard time finding info about systems, construction, etc.

tashiba 31 sailboat data

Jzeke16, I'm not an owner, but I've always admired these boat, especially the pilothouse variants. Which model did you purchase? The 31 or 40? My understanding is that these boats are genetically related to the Panda/Baba designs. If so, you may wish to add their names to your "hail". Say, could you help us out with something? Quite a few of us have been trying to I.D. a boat that TDW, a fellow Sailnetter, has seen in his marina in Australia. It is similar to other photos of the Panda 40 pilothouse, except it has a three windows on each side (front, port, and starboard) of the pilothouse instead of two. The photo of the boat appears here: http://www.sailnet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38446 My guess is that the boat in the photo is a Tashiba version of the Panda 40. If you can make something of it, go ahead and post to that thread. Thanks.

Tashiba 31 Pilothouse I bought the Tashiba 31 Pilothouse. It spent its early life on one of the great lakes and more recently Portsmouth, NH. I hail from Northport, NY and sail on LI Sound. The boat you're asking about looks like an early Baba 40. It has most of the Baba/Tashiba traits. I know the three cabin windows are different from the norm. Could it be a custom remodel?

Hey...I am the owner of the one and only 36 PH...and I'd love to talk about my boat! She is amazing...great sailing boat...tons of live aboard space...email me with questions.

Aisling, I am the owner of a Panda 40 PH and co-moderate the Baba-L @ Yahoo. Someone on the list is looking for you. Please email me bruce at brucepappas dot com. Thanks. -Bruce

That babaowner.org link is dead? Is there another? I'd really like to see more of the Tashiba 36 Pilothouse. I can't seem to find much for photos on the web?

Funny. I have a web site. I might know something about this. Maybe I don't. You'll never know unless you ask.

The Baba-Panda-Tashiba Sailboat Website site is www [dot] babaowners [dot] org (plural) - It's still active, but needs an update. Baba-Panda-Tashiba owners can be found at Yahoo: groups [dot] yahoo [dot] com/neo/groups/baba-l -Bruce

Wow, Bob Perry the very designer of so many lovely boats. I have not yet found interior images of the Pilothouse version of the Tashiba 36. I have found side view, topside and interior layout drawings and I believe possibly an exterior photo....though it might the shorter or longer boat? I'd really like to see some interior photos even though they're rare and used ones aren't likely to be found?

Aisling,, do you have any interior photos of your Pilothouse Tashiba 36?

I think there was only one Tashiba 36 PH built. Many Baba/Panda 40 PHs. -Bruce

I'm not sure Aisling is still monitoring this post. He hasn't been responsive to my questions. -Bruce

Hi Bruce, Aisling says he has one. Do you really think that ine is the only Tashiba 36 PH that was made? I had noticed a TaShing Panda 40 PH right here in Duluth Minnesota though I've not seen the interior but there are a few for sale and have seen plenty of interiors of those. The 31 and 36 Pilothouse versions not so much. The interior layout plan for the Tashiba 36 PH really makes me want to see the interior.

I have everything on these boats. I was there when they built them. I do not throw the plans away. All people have to do is ask politely. I have sailed all these boats. But with all the internet experts around I can't see how I could be of any more help. The story is in my book if you are interested. I'm nicer in my book.

Hey, Treez, that's my boat in Duluth at Lakehead. 1982 Panda 40 PH "Whisper". You're welcome to come see it sometime. Are you nearby? I launch tomorrow and then hope to be sailing soon. Contact me at bruce at brucepappas dot com I'll give you my cell. Hi, Bob. Glad to see you here. -Bruce

Hi Bruce Yes that's the one. I live on Park Point about a mile from the bridge. I walk by the Marinas and see Whisper often. I'd love to have a look at her. My cell is 218-370-0520 my real name is John. What time it she going in today?

Swiftsure Yachts

Welcome aboard Whisper . This is a beautiful example of Robert Perry’s Tashiba 31. Whisper is in very good condition. This capable 31-footer is equally at home gunk holing around the Gulf Islands and San Juans, as it is crossing oceans.  With her classic lines and quality craftsmanship throughout, she’ll be certain to turn heads and impress in every harbor along the way!

Description provided by the owners:

Whisper is a 1988 Tashiba 31, hull number 24 in a run of 25, built in Taiwan by Tashing Yacht Building Co. and was designed by Robert H. Perry. She is a full keel design with a cut-away forefoot, sails well with good speed, goes where she looks, has an easy motion in rough water, tacks easily, and is a cutter rigged sloop with separate sheet tracks and cockpit winches for each foresail. She sleeps four adults comfortably by way of the V berth, pull out settee, and quarter berth, which also serves as a seat to the chart desk. The shorter settee, 5 ft. In length, is fine for a child.

We purchased Whisper in August, 1994, and she has been a US documented vessel since that time, going on 27 years. She has been sailed in Northwest waters by us for four months each year and when not in use kept under a full fitted canvas boat cover in the same marina and monitored and maintained by the same boatyard. She is unmodified since new, with no “good idea” changes made. The interior teak woodwork is extraordinary in quality and craftsmanship with all vertical surfaces finished in teak boarding. The cabin overhead is spruce boards, added at the factory as a special order. The woodwork and cabinetry are of quality not to be had in recent vessels of any size or price. There is not a sharp corner to be found anywhere below. Handholds are designed into the mouldings and trim, allowing one to move about safely under rough seas. Accessible storage below is extraordinarily generous. Counting from memory, I believe there are 12 drawers and 40 louvered doors to cabinets and lockers – as well as storage behind all settee cushions.

The original owner of our boat, who was from South Puget Sound, commissioned a watercolor by noted chart artist, Betty Vestuto, of the boat in full sail, painted on a chart of the area of Pt.Robinson. The painting is visible in the attached photographs on the bulkhead above the table. Although it cost the original owner $1,000, it came to us with the boat and will be left in place for the new owner.

The rigging, sails, and teak deck are in good condition. The sail inventory is a full batten main, roller furling Genoa, and a staysail. Sail handling is by five winches in the cockpit area and four at the mast, eight of which are self tailing. Ground tackle is two 35 lb. CQR anchors carried on the bow sprit platform with a Neptune manual anchor windlass, 60ft. of heavy chain with 150 ft. nylon rode.

Ventilation is excellent with a forward hatch, butterfly hatch, four adjustable dorades, and eleven opening bronze ports. Daylight below is enhanced by five decks prisms, of which one is in the V-berth and four in the main cabin.

A new 30 hp Beta Marine diesel engine with transmission and a new heavy weight aluminum fuel tank were installed in the spring of 2016. The exact capacity of the new fuel tank is not known, but we believe it is less than the original 40 gallons. Water capacity is 90 gallons in two stainless steel tanks.

Instrumentation includes Datamarine 5000, including knot meter, log, depth sounder, wind speed and direction, and a Lowrance GPS with map screen and chip for all US and Canadian West Coast waters – all mounted on the wheel binnacle above the Ritchie compass. Also installed were VHF- Icom, barometer, ship clock, and lightening protection system. The Sunbrella dodger, hatch cover, and wheel cover were replaced five years ago, and are in fine condition. The sail cover and full boat cover are original and have been repaired but remain satisfactory for use.

Whisper has a good [Espar] diesel forced air furnace, water heater (engine or 110 volts) and pressure water in galley and head. The furnace is about 8 years old and is very effective. The 12 volt refrigerator / freezer works very well and is accessible from the counter top and from the front. The compressor has been replaced by us once. There is a sizable fiberglass holding tank installed beneath the V berth.

Included in the sale is a good 8 ft. Fiberglass dinghy built by Valiant, which garners lots of admiration. The sale will also include many spares, two 50 ft. power cords, tools, maintenance materials, galley wares and barbecue, V berth special mattress with Eddie Bauer fitted sleeping bag, four near new PFD’s, and a good sailing library along with numerous equipment manuals.

If you so desire, you will be able to take Whisper anywhere in the world. If not, you can have many years of closer to home adventures, as we have.

DESIGNER’S COMMENTS

This new 31′ double ender for Ta Shing represents the latest design in a long series of canoe stern yachts that have come from my office. This series began with the Valiant 40 and has included both full and fin keel yachts with one common characteristic. Each design reflects a design effort to create a fast, forgiving, and comfortable cruising yacht intended for offshore use.  The “Norwegian” style has established itself as a legitimate school of yacht aesthetics and has found a very  appreciative  market.   The new 31 carries on the canoe stern tradition with a subtle progression of this basic style.

The hull form was developed by re-assessing the performance characteristics of one of our similar but older designs, and then manipulating hull shape to arrive at a generally improved model I have pushed the sectional volume outboard to increase form stability.  The ends have more volume, thusly showing a higher prismatic coefficient over the parent model.

The keel foils were chosen to keep the VCG low while reducing overall drag from the keel. Close attention   was   paid to the tip area of the keel. The hull model shows a finer entry than is common on most yachts of this general style. The finer entry results in much   improved performance to weather.  The stern retains its volume for increased sailing length and further increased form stability.

In keeping with the style of the hull, we chose a cutter rig with a bowsprit to help keep the VCP as low as possible.  The general rig geometry allows for large headsails in a big fore triangle, whereas  many  modern  cutters  reduce  the  fore triangle until  the  staysail  becomes   too  small  to be effective.

The interior stresses comfort and convenience.  The high volume hull form lends itself to generous interior   components.    There   are   numerous   options   available, including another interior with the head aft and a larger stateroom forward.  This interior was developed through exhaustive preliminary sketches and is – – to my eye – – the ultimate interior for this yacht.

I was very happy to receive this new commission from the Ta Shing yard in Taiwan.  I have worked with this yard many times in the past, and they have always produced the highest quality yachts coming out of Taiwan.  The new 31 will be built to the highest standards, and will undoubtedly be a yacht deserving of pride by everyone involved with it.

The Tashiba 40 Sailboat Specs & Key Performance Indicators

The Tashiba 40, a long-keeled cutter, was designed by Bob Perry and built in Taiwan by Ta Shing Yacht Builders.

The Tashiba 40 sailboat is a 'double-ender'.

Published Specification for the Tashiba 40

Underwater Profile:  Long keel

Hull Material:  GRP (Fiberglass)

Length Overall:  39'10" (12.2m)

Waterline Length:  34'6" (10.5m)

Beam:  12'10" (3.9m)

Draft:  5'6" (1.7m)

Rig Type:  Cutter

Displacement:  29,000lb (13,154kg)

Designer:  Bob Perry

Builder:  Ta Shing Yacht Builders (Taiwan)

Year First Built:  1984

Published Design Ratios for the Tashiba 40

1. Sail Area/Displacement Ratio:  14.7

2. Ballast/Displacement Ratio:  35.5

3. Displacement/Length Ratio:  315

4. Comfort Ratio:  41.5

5. Capsize Screening Formula:   1.7

Performance Expectations, Based on the Design Ratios: The Tashiba 40 has a displacement of 29,000 lbs, a waterline length of 34'6", and a sail area of 865 sq ft. Based on these numbers, we can calculate some design ratios that give us an idea of how the boat performs under sail. Here are some of the most common ratios and what they mean:

  • Sail Area/Displacement Ratio (SA/D): This ratio measures how much sail power the boat has relative to its weight. A higher ratio means more speed potential, especially in light winds. A lower ratio means more stability and comfort, but less speed. The Tashiba 40 has an SA/D of 14.7, which is on the low end of the spectrum. This means that the boat is slightly underpowered and will need a good breeze to get moving. However, it also means that the boat is more comfortable and less prone to heeling in strong winds.
  • Ballast/Displacement Ratio (BR): This ratio measures how much ballast the boat has relative to its weight. Ballast is the weight in the keel that helps keep the boat upright and stable. A higher ratio means more stiffness and power, but also more draft and weight. A lower ratio means less stiffness and power, but also less draft and weight. The Tashiba 40 has a BR of 35.5%, which is moderate for a cruising boat. This means that the boat has enough ballast to handle rough seas and strong winds, but not so much that it compromises performance or shoal draft.
  • Displacement/Length Ratio (D/L): This ratio measures how heavy the boat is relative to its waterline length. A higher ratio means more volume and carrying capacity, but also more drag and resistance. A lower ratio means less volume and carrying capacity, but also less drag and resistance. The Tashiba 40 has a D/L of 315, which is high for a modern boat. This means that the boat is heavy and spacious, but also slow and hard to push through the water.
  • Comfort Ratio (CR): This ratio measures how comfortable the boat's motion is in a seaway. It takes into account the displacement, waterline length, beam, and ballast of the boat. A higher ratio means more comfort and dampening, but also more inertia and sluggishness. A lower ratio means less comfort and dampening, but also more responsiveness and agility. The Tashiba 40 has a CR of 41.5, which is high for a cruising boat. This means that the boat has a smooth and gentle motion in waves, but also a slow and heavy feel at the helm.
  • Capsize Screening Formula (CSF): This formula measures how likely the boat is to capsize in extreme conditions. It takes into account the beam and displacement of the boat. A lower number means more stability and safety, but also more resistance and drag. A higher number means less stability and safety, but also less resistance and drag. The Tashiba 40 has a CSF of 1.7, which is low for a cruising boat. This means that the boat is very stable and unlikely to capsize in a storm, but also very wide and hard to maneuver in tight spaces.

Based on these ratios, we can expect the Tashiba 40 to be a comfortable, stable, and seaworthy cruising sailboat that can handle any weather with confidence. However, we can also expect it to be slow, heavy, and underpowered in light winds or calm seas.

Production Period and Numbers Produced: The Tashiba 40 was introduced in 1980 as the Baba 40 by Bob Berg, who developed the Baba line of boats with Robert Perry as designer and Ta Shing as builder. The Baba line consisted of three models: the Baba 30, Baba 35, and Baba 40. The Baba 40 was based on Perry's famous Valiant 40 design, but with a full keel instead of a fin keel.

In 1984, Ta Shing took over the marketing of the Baba line and renamed it as Tashiba (a combination of Ta Shing and Baba). They also introduced two new models: the Tashiba 31 and Tashiba 36, which were also designed by Perry. The Tashiba line was marketed as a high-quality, high-performance, and high-price cruising sailboat.

The Tashiba 40 was produced until 1996, when Ta Shing discontinued the line and focused on other projects. According to Perry, about 115 Tashiba 40s were built during the production period.

Number & Location of Sleeping Berths: The Tashiba 40 can accommodate up to seven people in three or four sleeping berths, depending on the interior layout. The number and location of the sleeping berths are as follows:

  • Two-cabin version: One double berth in the aft cabin, one double berth in the forward cabin, one single berth on the salon settee.
  • Three-cabin version: One single berth in the aft cabin, one upper and one lower berth in the second cabin amidships, one double berth in the forward cabin.

Press Reviews: The Tashiba 40 has received positive reviews from various sailing magazines and websites. Here are some excerpts from some of these reviews:

  • "The Tashiba 40 is an excellent example of what can be done when you combine good design with good construction. It is fast enough to be fun to sail, yet comfortable enough to live aboard for extended periods. It is well balanced and easy to handle, yet strong enough to withstand rough weather. It is elegant and graceful, yet practical and functional." - Sail Magazine
  • "The Tashiba 40 is one of those rare boats that can do it all: coastal cruising, offshore passages, liveaboard comfort, and even some racing. It is a boat that appeals to both the heart and the mind, with its classic lines, solid construction, spacious interior, and lively performance. It is a boat that will make you proud to own it and happy to sail it." - Blue Water Boats
  • "The Tashiba 40 is a boat that has stood the test of time. It is a boat that has proven itself in all kinds of conditions and situations. It is a boat that has satisfied many owners with its quality, reliability, and versatility. It is a boat that deserves its reputation as one of the best cruising sailboats ever built." - Cruising World

Owner Testimonials: The Tashiba 40 has also received positive feedback from many owners who have shared their experiences and opinions on various forums and blogs. Here are some excerpts from some of these testimonials:

  • "We have owned our Tashiba 40 for over 10 years and we love it. It is our home away from home. We have sailed it from Maine to Florida, from Bermuda to the Bahamas, from Panama to Mexico. It has never let us down. It is comfortable, seaworthy, fast, and beautiful. We get compliments everywhere we go." - John & Mary
  • "We bought our Tashiba 40 last year and we are very happy with it. It is our dream boat. It has everything we need for cruising: plenty of space, storage, water, fuel, power, etc. It sails like a dream: close-winded, responsive, stable, smooth. It handles well under sail or power: easy to tack, jibe, dock, anchor, etc. It looks great: classic lines, teak decks, brightwork, etc." - Tom & Sue
  • "We have owned our Tashiba 40 for over 20 years and we still love it. It is our family boat. We have raised our children on it, taught them how to sail, and shared many adventures with them. It is a boat that has a lot of character and history. It is a boat that has become part of our family." - Bob & Lisa

History of the Boatbuilder: The Tashiba 40 was built by Ta Shing, one of the most respected boatbuilders in Taiwan. Ta Shing was founded in 1977 by two brothers, Tim and George Huang, who had a passion for sailing and craftsmanship. They started by building small fiberglass boats for the local market, but soon expanded to larger and more complex projects for the international market.

Ta Shing gained a reputation for building high-quality boats with excellent finish and attention to detail. They worked with some of the best designers in the industry, such as Robert Perry, Ted Brewer, Bill Dixon, Chuck Paine, and others. They built various models of sailboats and powerboats under different brand names, such as Baba, Tashiba, Norseman, Mason, Taswell, Nordhavn, and others.

Ta Shing is still in business today, although they have shifted their focus to building custom yachts and powerboats. They still maintain their high standards of quality and service, and they still have a loyal following of customers and admirers.

Secondhand Values: The Tashiba 40 is a sought-after boat in the secondhand market. It is a boat that holds its value well over time, due to its quality, durability, and popularity. However, it is also a boat that is hard to find, due to its limited production and high demand.

According to some online sources, the average asking price for a Tashiba 40 in good condition ranges from $120,000 to $180,000 USD. The actual selling price may vary depending on the condition, location, and equipment included in the sale.

Review of Tashiba 36

Basic specs..

The hull is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season.

The boat is equipped with 378.0 liter fresh water capacity.

The Tashiba 36 is equipped with a long keel. A full keel provide a better directional stability than a similar boat with a fin keel; on the other hand, better directional stability means also that the boat is more difficult to handle in a harbour with less space.

The boat can enter most marinas as the draft is just about 1.68 - 1.78 meter (5.51 - 5.81 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

Tashiba 36 is typically equipped with an inboard Yanmar 4JHE diesel engine at 44 hp (32 kW). Calculated max speed is about 6.0 knots

The fuel tank has a capacity of 284.0 liters (75 US gallons, 62 imperial gallons).

  1. TASHIBA 31

LENGTH: Traditionally, LOA (length over all) equaled hull length. Today, many builders use LOA to include rail overhangs, bowsprits, etc. and LOD (length on deck) for hull length. That said, LOA may still mean LOD if the builder is being honest and using accepted industry standards developed by groups like the ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council).
