#WeirdBoats - The De Antonio D50 is the Smallest Boat with a Hot Tub

Hot tubs are typically reserved for megayachts, but brace yourself for a new era. Why have hot tubs always been the fancy of the big boats, you might ask? Duh, it's because hot tubs take up a bunch of space, they need regular maintenance, and they're expensive and totally unnecessary. If you're already on water, do you really need more water?

The answer is yes. Yes you do. And now you can.

The all-new De Antonio D50 Open is likely the smallest boat to ever include a hot tub with an LOA of just 48'9" (14.9m). That's obviously not a small boat, nor a cheap one, but it is definitely small for hot tub enthusiasts.

The D50 Open falls into the category of 50-foot walkarounds alongside other brands like Pardo and Fjord, but there are several features that make it a standout. The hot tub is the obvious one, but the D50's ability to sneakily employ outboard power gives it an advantage no other boat can match.

As for the hot tub, it's actually quite large. It measures 8'x8' (2.5 m x 2.5 m), which is large for a residential home and certainly a substantial size for a 48' boat. The tub operates by pumping in saltwater to fill it, which can be drained just as quickly. If you anchor up for the night and the temperature drops, a dip in the tub for some late night R&R is quick and easy. Not to mention it's a deliciously decadent way to spend an evening on the water.

The other standout feature about the D50 is that it uses outboard power despite looking like an inboard. This setup creates the layout advantages of an inboard but the performance and maintenance perks of an outboard. The engines are disguised underneath the aft sunpad so the stern can use the the maximum available space typically seen on inboard layouts. This creates easy access for maintenance by lifting the sunpad, plus a full-width swimming platform for recreation.

The D50 doesn't just get caught up on the luxury amenities though. Performance-wise it packs up to four 450 hp outboards for 1800 total horsepower and a top speed of 50 knots (57 mph). Power options include two, three, or four outboard engines like the Mercury Verado 450R or the all-new 600 hp Mercury V12 .

Layout details include walkaround decks, a dining area with cooking facilities, and a T-top shelter overlooking a smartly designed cockpit. Other notable features includes a hydraulic swim platform system, carbon fiber and steel accents, a full-size forward owner's cabin, a complete bathroom with separate toilet and shower cubicle, and a full-beam dinette that can be converted into a double bed.

All in all, the De Antonio D50 is probably the smallest boat with a hot tub on the market. That's cool in its own right, just as long as you empty the tub before throttling down on 1800 hp to get onto plane.

The hot tub boat is equipped with an internal heating and circulation system to keep the water at the right temp, along with a UV and saltwater filtration system to keep everything clean. There is also a ladder on the side that you can use to get in and out of the tub.

Kanwetz and his team say the Spacruzzi also epitomizes American-made luxury. Each hull is built in either Nevada or Montana using local materials and suppliers. Crafted predominately from fiberglass, the teardrop-shaped vessel can be tailored to each owner’s tastes. There are various high-end finishes available, as well as custom hull colors and decking. You can also opt for extras, such as shade towers, floating drinks caddies or underwater lights, to further distinguish your vessel.

The team says Spacruzzi has received approvals to operate in some of the most heavily regulated bodies of water in the US. The vessel is suited to either personal or commercial use.

“Since we launched, we’ve seen immediate growth in both our rental and direct-to-consumer sales and this is continuing to grow,” Kanwetz said in a statement. “As you begin to see more rental operations popping up, we expect the awareness of the product to grow on the national level as more people see that this isn’t just a novelty item, but an experience that can’t be matched on the water.”

Boasting a glass wall facing the sundeck cocktail bar, the 7,000 litre pool on board Sunrise 63.1 metre Irimari offers the perfect spot for guests to relax. Alternatively, guests can unwind inches away from the surface of the ocean courtesy of a fold down beach club with balconies on either side.

Managed for charter by Royale Oceanic , Alfa Nero  can accommodate up to 12 guests on board with a crew of 26.

Seemingly designed with water babies in mind, the 52 metre Sanlorenzo 52 Steel yacht  Seven Sins boasts a glass-bottomed swimming pool —complete with 12 tonnes of water, glass panel walls and sophisticated lighting for nighttime dips — above an expansive water-level beach club, with access to the sea from fold-out balconies on either side. Additionally, the centrefold of this superyacht beach club can be transformed into a float-in tender garage.

Managed for charter by YPI , Seven Sins  can accommodate up to 10 guests in five cabins.

Boasting both a 7.5 metre counterflow pool on the aft deck, the floor of which can be raised to add space to the deck, a 3 metre plunge pool surrounded by sunpads forward on the sundeck and a Jacuzzi over the bow, the 88.5 metre Nirvana is perfect for those happier in the water than out.

A  Soviet icebreaker turned explorer yacht , 77.4 metre  Legend has a range of 7,640 nautical miles, and her superyacht spa pool is equally as impressive. When cruising through the chilly waters of Northern Europe this summer, up to 16 people can enjoy a dip in the pool, which is fed by a cascading waterfall. If it's too breezy up on deck, guests can head to the Balinese spa to enjoy the sauna, Jacuzzi and beauty salon.

Delivered in 1973 by IHC Verschure and refitted in 2016 by Icon Yachts , Legend can sleep up to 26 guests in 13 cabins, with a crew of 19. She is managed for charter by Camper & Nicholsons .

Coral Ocean

Coral Ocean 's large superyacht swimming pool is located at the centre of her spacious sundeck. It features a mosaic of the iconic Coral Ocean motif as well as an underwater porthole window through to the spa area. Alternatively, real water babies can luxuriate in the steam room, which also boasts beautiful mosaics, just a few steps from the sundeck.

Delivered by Lürssen in 1994, the 72.6 metre superyacht can sleep up to 12 guests in six rooms and is managed for charter by Burgess .

Savannah's nine metre superyacht pool is enough to get her on our list, but her beautiful Jacuzzi and vast beach platform really swing it. Have a paddle on deck and simply stroll the few steps to the swimming platform so you can dive into the ocean. Delivered in 2015 by Feadship , 83.5 metre Savannah also has a luxurious spa and Hammam on board for ultimate relaxation.

Hot Tub Usage Considerations

When considering a jacuzzi or hot tub on a yacht, it’s important to understand the operational limitations that might affect when and where the jacuzzi can be used.

On smaller yachts, the jacuzzi might need to be emptied while the yacht is underway to prevent water from spilling due to the movement of the yacht affected by the waves.

Additionally, the yacht’s water-making capacity might restrict the frequent refilling of a jacuzzi, making it more practical to use only while in port when water is unlimited.

This is less of an issue on larger yachts, where advanced and more efficient systems can manage larger volumes of water and stabilize the vessel against the waves more effectively.

Pool or Deck Jacuzzi

If all you really need is a quick dip or even a soothing hydro-massage, the on deck Jacuzzi typically acts as the pool on board. Water temperature can be regulated in most, so turning off the heat is an option if you need to cool down after an onboard workout. Either way, a yacht with a pool offers the ultimate in relaxation while you take in the vast views of the sea.

The following list includes some of the best main features to consider when shopping for a 2-person hot tub. We’ve also presented some questions you can ask yourself to use as a guide during your own research.

Size — Will the hot tub fit in my desired location? Do I want the hot tub to feel spacious or intimate when all the seats are occupied? This will help you find the best hot tub for small space.

Seat and seat positioning — Do I want my hot tub to have an upright seat, lounger seat and an added toddler or cool down seat? Do I want to be sitting beside or opposite the person sharing the hot tub with me?

Shape — Do I want the hot tub to be round, square or triangular?

Jets and hydrotherapy — Do I want to receive a targeted hydromassage? Do I want the massage to be focused on the top half or full body?

[leadin]It’s a wood-fired hot tub, and it also floats. What’s not to love?[/leadin]

The HotTug is one of the more awesome inventions we’ve seen in a while.

It seats six to eight people, and heats the water up to 101 degrees F with a wood stove onboard. It sails quietly with an integrated 2.4 KW MinnKota engine, and it can also accommodate an outboard engine if you’ve really got somewhere to be.

With a top speed of about 3mph when full of 475 gallons of water, you won’t set any speed records. But who cares? You’re already in a hot tub!

A wood stove in the front of the boat heats the water up to more than 100 degrees in about 2.5 hours. All it takes is a small fire built with normal logs.

The boat/tub is made from wood with common fiberglass overlay construction. This popular method for homemade boats may inspire some do-it-yourself builders to consider one of these as a backyard project.

But for most people, purchasing a pre-made HotTug would make a LOT more sense. And good news — the product, originally launched in Europe in 2012, is now available in the United States.

While it’s probably not a practical item for most people, you can rent one in Rotterdam, London, Zürich or Copenhagen. The experience of hot-tubbing your way through an iconic city might alone be worth a trip.

I'm trying to find companies that make those hot tubs ("jacuzzi's") you see on bigger yachts. The ones that have a drain around for water splashing over the edge, I only see them on yacht pictures and could not find any manufacturers. Are they all custom made? Thorwald

A couple of large yachts I have worked on use Kohler brand Whirpool (air) Baths. They are the ones you describe, the quality is good. They are 'off the shelf'. There are a few rules regarding drainage times that need to be kept in mind however installation is straight forward. How to keep exterior Jacuzzi clean? It seems non yacht related but I have a Jacuzzi on the boat deck and would like to know your views on keeping it clean? It's under cover on the Boat deck but gets dirty, which isn't the main issue. When it comes to using it, we fill it with fresh water and as soon as we turn it on the water goes green. Do you suggest keeping it full while at the dock and running it daily? How about putting bleach in the water? Any suggestions appreciated, on past yachts this hasn't been an issue because the Jacuzzi was inside.
