Our Na Pali Coast sunset tour is the premier "dinner with a view" experience. You can see the whole coast of Kauai from Haena to Milolii, even the "forbidden" island of Niihau far away. Each day is unique, as the light reacts with the clouds and landscapes. Rainbows frequently add color to distant mountains, and our sunsets at sea are spectacular.

The Na Pali sunset cruise will start with a short briefing and introduction as you depart from Port Allen. You will first head west and then turn to the north to reach the Na Pali Coast.

Meanwhile, our onboard chef will begin preparing a fresh and delicious meal. Our Kauai sunset dinner cruise stands out from other tours because our Star catamarans feature a full galley (kitchen). This means that your meal will be freshly prepared onboard.

Most days, the trade winds in Hawaii blow from the east. These winds create ideal conditions for sailing downwind along Na Pali Coast during the dinner cruise in Kauai.

For an optimal Na Pali coast sunset cruise , the crew aims to position the boat for a stable downwind sail. After we turn around, the crew will stop the boat's engines, raise the main sail, and open the jib. You can then relax and have a tasty meal prepared by the chef at sunset, along with your favorite drinks.

We time our Na Pali sunset tour to return to Port Allen at dusk.

The same extreme elements that have shaped the landscape sometimes prevent us from comfortably exploring the Na Pali Coast, and in-water activities are always weather and ocean conditions dependent. Your captain will continually monitor the weather and will be receiving reports about local ocean conditions right up to your departure time. We will notify you approximately 90 minutes prior to departure via a text to the number you provided at booking to advise you of any destination changes the weather and/or ocean conditions may make necessary. We’ll be riding in comfort and style on Holoholo , our company’s namesake vessel that was designed and built here on Kauai, by our company’s founder and crew. Holoholo has a low center of gravity, so there’s less rocking and rolling than on more top-heavy, double decker tour boats– a feature our guests appreciate!

They say it’s the journey and not the destination, but Napali might be the exception to the rule—Kauai’s northwest coast is truly something to behold. We always find ourselves saying, “It never gets old,” because the Napali Coast has a way of humbling us with her magnificence, every single day. It’s the rainbows and the dolphins and the way the Cathedrals break through low-lying clouds. It’s the waterfalls, and the birds flying through Honopu Arch. Even when conditions aren’t “perfect”, Napali always seems to have a way of showing the love and making the trip special.

Indeed, in this case, it’s hard to beat the destination. That said, we’ll do our best to make the journey unforgettable too!

When it comes to service, we go for food and beverage menus that are refreshing, Hawaii-inspired, delicious, satisfying, and easy-to-eat.  We’ve got juices, sodas, domestic & Hawaii craft beers, hard seltzers, red & white wine, sparkling wine, and our signature Koloa Rum Mai Tai. We serve meats & cheeses, crackers, and fresh veggies with dips to start, and for the main course—fresh pineapple, garden salad, somen noodle salad, rice, teriyaki chicken, and roasted veggies with tofu. Our balanced, colorful meals are prepared every day by our local caterers, using whole ingredients. We use reusable linens and service ware, and Holo Holo Charters is the only Kauai tour boat company to be certified an Ocean Friendly Restaurant by the Surfrider Foundation.

Chances are we’ll see some ocean wildlife while we’re out there; Hawaiian spinner dolphins, flying fish, green sea turtles, and pelagic sea birds are commonly seen on our Kauai sunset tours, year-round! And from December through April– it’s whale season, when thousands of North Pacific Humpback Whales migrate over 3,000 miles from their summer feeding grounds in Alaska to the warm waters of Hawaii, to mate and calve. As part of their mating rituals, curiosity, and propensity to “show off” to humans, we’re often treated to dramatic breaches, tail slapping, and other fascinating behaviors, such as spy hopping.

On the way to and from the majestic Napali Coast, we’ll pass the towns of Waimea and Kekaha, the Pacific Missile Range Facility, Barking Sands Beach, and Hawaii’s longest beach– Polihale Beach. Your captain will provide narration– history, interesting facts, information, and legends about the island—and our crew members will be at your service at all times, answering questions, taking pictures, refilling drinks, bringing you a plate, walking you to the bathroom, etc.

While our winter tours will be 3 hours long, as opposed to our standard 4-hour tours during peak season, the focus will be on captivating sightseeing and wildlife viewing along the Na Pali Coast. Please note that lunch is not provided, as we aim to reduce waste in the event of a tour cancellation. Snorkeling and sea cave exploration are less likely during the winter months, but our captains will always monitor the conditions and may have opportunities to incorporate these activities if the weather permits. Your safety is our priority, and you can rest assured that our tours will be conducted in the safest and most responsible manner possible.Our seasoned captains and crew members are committed to ensuring your well-being at all times, and we will not hesitate to cancel any tour if the conditions are deemed unsuitable.
