When selling a boat in Miami, there are two taxes to consider: the Florida state sales tax and the optional fee imposed by Miami-Dade County.
In the state of Florida, a 6% Florida state sales tax applies to the sale of all boats, regardless of their price or size.
Furthermore, in Miami-Dade County, there is an optional fee that applies to boat sales. The amount of this fee varies depending on the length of the boat:
For boats measuring 16 to less than 26 feet (Class 1), the fee amounts to $13.37.
For boats measuring 26 to less than 40 feet (Class 2), the fee amounts to $38.13.
For boats measuring 40 to less than 65 feet (Class 3), the fee amounts to $62.88.
For boats measuring 65 under 110 feet (Class 4), the fee amounts to $75.38.
There are certain exemptions from sales tax and the county's optional fee for boat sales. These exemptions include:
Vessels sold to government agencies
Boats sold to non-profit organizations
Boats sold to religious organizations
Boats sold to individuals with disabilities
For more detailed information about these exemptions, please visit the website of the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles (FLDHSMV ).
Payment procedure
The responsibility of paying the sales tax and optional county fee lies with the boat seller. To fulfill this obligation, the seller must complete and submit a Florida Sales Tax Return form to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLDHSMV). Once the form is processed, the FLDHSMV will issue a receipt that must be provided to the buyer during the transfer of title.
Additionally, the buyer is required to pay a title transfer fee of $11.25 to the FLDHSMV.
Yachts in Miami are required to adhere to various regulations, both at the state and local levels, to prioritize passenger safety and protect the environment.
Yacht Registration: Every yacht must be registered with the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles (FLDHSMV). Registration can be completed online or in person at an FLDHSMV office, with an annual fee of $50.
Yacht Insurance : Yacht owners are advised to have public liability insurance to cover any damages caused to third parties. The cost of insurance will vary depending on the size and value of the yacht.
Yacht Operator's License : Operating a yacht in U.S. territorial waters requires an operator's license, obtainable from the FLDHSMV for a fee of $30.
Environmental Regulations : To preserve the coastal environment, yachts are prohibited from discharging sewage or solid waste into the waters. Additionally, they must be equipped with a wastewater treatment system.
Fishing Regulations : Yachts engaged in fishing within U.S. territorial waters must adhere to fishing regulations set by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). These regulations encompass bag limits, fishing seasons, and permits.

The Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show returns to Greater Miami & Miami Beach February 12-16, 2025 bringing with it over 1,000 exhibitors, boats and activations. It’ll span six locations across Miami and Miami Beach, making it the world’s largest boat show with an estimated $1.3 billion in economic impact. The Boat Show has also joined forces with SuperYacht Miami to bring the biggest and most luxurious yachts in the world to Watson Island for a special VIP showcase. Whether you’re in the market for a boat or just want to see the latest toys on the water, the Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show has something for you to enjoy, and there’s easy transportation between all six venues.
Read on for details on the 2024 event
How to best experience the boat show.
How you experience the boat show depends entirely on what you want to see and do. If you’re looking to peruse boats under 49 feet, the Miami Beach Convention Center in South Beach is your spot. The newly renovated convention center will be filled with boats, engines, accessories, electronics and boat-related retail. So whether you’re shopping for a boat or just a new Bimini top for your center console, you can find it here.
Across the causeway at Herald Plaza in Downtown Miami , you’ll find thundering powerboats alongside modest yachts in the 30-125-foot range. There will also be engine manufacturers and retail specific to the boats on display.
If you’re looking to get out on the water, head to the Venetian Marina near Downtown. You’ll find 150 vessels ready for test-drives and a bevy of brokerage boats, too.
Those who prefer wind-powered vessels should make their way to the Museum Park Marina in Downtown Miami, where the latest in sailboats, catamarans and sailing accessories will be in the water.
If you’re in town to shop for a mega yacht, make plans to visit SuperYacht Miami at Yacht Haven Grande Miami . The largest and most impressive boats on the high seas will sit sparkling in the sun at The Deck at Island Gardens, beckoning the world’s elite to see what over-the-top advances shipbuilders have developed. Access to this event is only available to Windward VIP or SuperYacht ticket holders.
What to Do at the Boat Show
The boat show isn’t just for people looking to buy boats. Nor is it for people who just want to look at boats. Across the street from the convention center in Pride Park , you’ll find the Progressive Boat Show Experience , a venerable carnival of boating fun filled with food, seminars and even some tips on how to fix your boat. The Experience’s centerpiece is the Nautical Ventures AquaZone, a 40,000-gallon freshwater pool in which you’ll find watercraft demos and product testing. Try out the latest in nautical technology.
On Thursday and Friday nights, SFC Live! will stream live from the Progressive stage, as Peter Miller and Robbie Floyd discuss the world of professional sport fishing and what to expect in the upcoming season. Throughout the weekend, you can also enjoy fishing seminars by the experts at CHAOS Fishing. And those looking to educate their kids about the wonderful world of angling can enroll them in Hook the Future’s Kids Fishing Clinics with Captain Don Dingman, who’ll teach them about different species of fish and fishing techniques.
If you have a boat that’s giving you trouble and need some tips on fixing it, there’s the Fred’s Shed Interactive Learning Center. Mechanics and other boating pros will be on hand to offer free seminars and advice on everything from daily operations to maintenance.
Planning Your Visit
Tickets to the boat show.
The only way into the boat show will be with digital tickets ; you won’t find a box office on-site. Tickets will get you into every venue except SuperYacht. SuperYacht tickets are sold separately, though those with Windward VIP tickets can also access SuperYacht.
Windward VIP tickets also include access to designated lounges at Herald Plaza and the Miami Beach Convention Center as well as a premium open bar and golf cart transportation to the lounges. VIP ticket holders will also receive free shuttle and water taxi transportation between venues and have their own private restrooms.
Getting to the Boat Show
The Boat Show has partnered with SpotHero , a service that helps reserve parking spaces via lots, garages and valet services. You can check for spaces on the app , although those going to the Convention Center will be best served to park at the 17th Street garage a block south. Other venues may have surface lots nearby, but rideshares and public transportation may be easier.
Going between venues is pretty simple, as ticket holders can take free boat show shuttles or golf carts. Shuttles will run in five different loops connecting the venues, and electric golf carts will run between Maurice Gibb Park and the Convention Center and also Herald Plaza and the Venetian Marina.
This year’s show will also offer a water taxi running between all six locations. Tickets are available for $15 per day (they’re included with Windward VIP tickets).
Those coming via Brightline from points north can take a free shuttle from MiamiCentral Station . It’ll stop at several boat show venues.
Where It’s Happening
The show’s home base will be the Miami Beach Convention Center at 1901 Convention Center Drive in Miami Beach .
The Boat Show Experience will be held in Pride Park, adjacent to the Miami Beach Convention Center.
One Herald Plaza is in Downtown Miami, between Bayshore Drive and the Venetian Causeway on Northeast 15th Street. The nearest Metromover stop is the Adrienne Arsht Center station.
The Venetian Marina is also in Downtown Miami, at 1635 N. Bayshore Drive. The nearest Metromover stop is the Adrienne Arsht Center station.
Museum Park Marina is at 801 Biscayne Blvd. in Downtown Miami, between the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science and Kaseya Center . The nearest Metromover stop is the Park West station.

The Monaco Yacht Show always promises a stellar lineup— last year had an unusually large number of wild launches—and this time around will be no exception. More than 120 superyachts, including 20-plus that measure 200 feet and above, will be on the docks at Port Hercule, with beautiful Monte Carlo in the hills above.
Among the fleet of anticipated launches is the 400-foot Kismet . Built by Lürssen and launched earlier this year, this stunner will be shown before the winter charter season, at a weekly rate of $3.25 million. The vessel is sure to stand out, thanks to the large silver jaguar sculpture fitted under its bowsprit.
Besides bling, showgoers will notice the concerted push toward sustainability this year. Rossinavi has introduced the Seawolf X , its first hybrid-electric catamaran, and Nautor Swan’s sailing maxi yacht, DreamCatcher , is also its first hybrid. Sanlorenzo is launching Almax , its first 50-meter (165-foot) vessel with hydrogen fuel cells. It was developed with Siemens Energy.
Siemens is also sponsoring the show’s Sustainability Hub, which has become a breeding ground for eco-friendly concepts and new ideas to promote a greener superyacht sector. This year’s conference will cover alternative propulsion, outlining how it will be adopted over the next five years. The show’s Yacht Design & Innovation Hub takes a less technical approach to sustainability. It’s the place where leading designers and mainstream innovators converge, presenting vessels that will shape the future of superyacht design.
Here are 11 must-see boats at this year’s show.
Lürssen ‘Kismet’
The 400-foot Kismet is the most anticipated boat on display at Monaco this year. True to form, Shahid Khan’s third Lürssen, which charters for $3.25 million per week, will be an exceptional landmark in a marina of superyachts. Alongside its Nemo lounge for viewing marine life, a Balinese-inspired spa with the first chromotherapy bathtub on a yacht, and upper-deck dining options for 24 people, the vessel has a duplex owner’s apartment with two separate marbled bathrooms, a fireplace, and gilded wall coverings. When guests have had their fill of the DJ station and Bogányi piano, the ’80s retro matrix dance floor should keep the party going.
Royal Huisman ‘Special One’
Set to make a splash is Royal Huisman’s 171-foot Special One , the largest sportfisherman in the world. Commissioned by an experienced yachtsman and passionate fisherman, the monster sportfish is kitted out with a fighting chair, 22 fishing rods, insulated cooler boxes, and a dedicated bait-and-tackle room. The teak foredeck can transition into a sheltered private lounge area and also converts to an outdoor cinema. Designed by Vripack, the vessel offers up proportions and seakeeping capabilities that are matched by its impressive 30-knot top speed.
Rossinavi ‘Seawolf X’
Looming large above the water, the 140-foot Seawolf X is Rossinavi’s most ambitious build to date. The hybrid-electric catamaran is the Italian shipyard’s first multihull, which can stay in electric mode during transatlantic trips for 80 percent of the time. Even more impressive is the onboard artificial intelligence system—Rossinavi AI—which analyses the operation of the vessel, predicts the needs of guests and optimizes crew service and logistics. The interior is designed by New York-based Meyer Davis, with an exterior penned by Fulvio De Simoni Yacht Design. Its wow features include a cockpit centered around a pool, a second hidden pool on the bow area, and an outdoor cinema.
Bilgin ‘Eternal Spark’
Eternal Spark is the first hull in Bilgin’s 163 series. In addition to six outdoor and three indoor lounge areas, the yacht can host over 100 people while at anchor from its five dedicated bar areas. Hot Lab’s use of wood inlays and embossed natural leather create a refined interior aesthetic, while the combination of a huge beach club, sauna, pool, and two cinemas—outdoor and indoor—should keep guests happy. Built with over 200 different materials, it shows how advanced the Turkish yard has become with its last few launches.
Sanlorenzo ‘Almax’
Sanlorenzo’s first fuel-cell-powered 50Steel model joins a growing list of yacht launches exploring alternative power sources. The fuel-cell technology converts biomethanol (green methanol) into enough electricity to cover the hotel load so the yacht can anchor all night without generators. Almax also has Sanlorenzo’s newly patented Hidden Engine Room (HER), located on the lower deck. This novel configuration creates enough interior volume to include a 1,615-square-foot beach club with a pool and unfolding sea terraces, while keeping the yacht below 500GT. The shipyard has confirmed the sale of four units to date.
Custom Line50
Making its global debut a Monaco, the four-decked Custom Line50 is the Italian shipyard’s new flagship model. The dedicated owner’s apartment on the upper deck includes full-height windows, a full-beam suite, and a large private terrace. The sun deck’s lounge seating, cocktail bar, uninterrupted views, and glass-edged infinity pool amplify the sense of being on a floating island. It’s an effective design that is replicated on the main aft deck. This area offers stepped access to the sea, a scenario that is reinforced by an aquamarine-and-cream interior color scheme.
Damen ‘Five Oceans’
The newest model from Damen’s Yacht Support 53 range, Five Oceans was built for Tommy Allen, an entrepreneur committed to ocean exploration and marine conservation. The vessel will be easy to spot in Monaco’s Port Hercules, thanks to its powder-blue, orange, and white hull. The custom build is Allen’s second yacht-support vessel from Damen. It has a sprawling aft deck to carry toys and tenders as well as a 15-ton deck crane for the launch and recovery of the electric boats and Triton 3300 Pro submersible. Five Oceans also carries an Icon A5 amphibious aircraft.
Tankoa ‘Diamond Binta’
Conceived as a world explorer, Tankoa’s 190-foot Diamond Binta blends a hybrid propulsion package with high-gloss finishes over a wooden interior. Penned by Francesco Paszkowski, Tankoa’s long-time design collaborator, the full custom build has an owner’s suite with a fold-out balcony, a forward helideck for shore-based excursions, a large beach club with a spa, and massage room as well as a sundeck with a gym and pool. A corridor on the lower deck connects the yacht’s five guest cabins to the beach area, passing through a viewable engine room.
Nautor Swan ‘DreamCatcher’
As Nautor Swan’s first hybrid yacht, the 88-foot DreamCatcher is described by the shipyard as a “no-compromise cruiser with a racer’s soul.” Designed for guest comfort with a maximum heeling angle of 20 degrees, its exterior is penned by veteran Swan designer Germán Frers, while the light-wood interior with gray accents is done by Misa Poggi. The aft cockpit has a new coachroof design with an integrated sprayhood, bimini, and modular benches that can be used for both lounging and dining. The stern area incorporates a large beach club area and tender garage. On the foredeck is the “sunset lounge.”
Oceanco ‘H3’
Built in 2000 as 312-foot Al Mirqab for a member of the Qatari royal family, the renovated H3 emerged from Oceanco’s facilities in 2023 looking brand new, with an extra 476 gross tons of internal volume. The vessel’s 33-foot extension—to accommodate the owner’s request for an infinity pool with a convertible dance floor and waterfall—and a fully replaced superstructure were enough for Lloyd’s Register to classify the yacht as a new build. A spa on the lower deck has a hammam, a sensory shower, a hair salon, and treatment rooms. The beach club with its rippled mirror ceiling offers stepped access to the sea.
Conrad ‘Extra Time’
Extra Time , the second hull in Conrad’s C144 series, has an exterior by Reymond Langton Design and naval architecture by Diana Yacht Design. The interior is by M2 Atelier. Much like its sistership Ace , Extra Time has a beach club, four guest lounge areas, a cinema, two bars and an infinity pool. Standout personal touches include an attention-grabbing King Kong sculpture in the main salon and the main-deck owner’s suite that’s accessed via a private study with an electric piano.

A handpicked selection of superyachts on display at the Monaco Yacht Show 2024
The much-anticipated Monaco Yacht Show is a time to celebrate some of the industry’s most prized superyachts. But for prospective buyers, navigating the complexities of purchasing a new yacht requires the expertise of a seasoned broker. Among the top brokerage houses at this year's event is Edmiston , following an outstanding year with impressive sales figures.
With 30 yachts sold so far in 2024 alone, totalling over €1.1 billion in sales, Edmiston has secured a dominant 25 per cent market share of the global transaction value, and 28 per cent in yachts over 50 metres. Remarkably, the brokerage boasts the fastest sales time in the industry, with its central agency yachts selling at twice the speed of the market average. As excitement builds for the show, BOAT highlights the standout superyachts Edmiston will be presenting to potential clients in Monaco.
Among the spotlighted superyachts is the newly transformed H3 , originally delivered as 95-metre Indian Empress in 2000 by Oceanco . Following an extensive full-scale rebuild at the same shipyard in 2023, the vessel now emerges as a modernised 105-metre, delivered in 2024 with the appeal of a brand-new yacht, complete with a full shipyard new-build warranty.
H3 presents a unique opportunity for buyers seeking a yacht that not only boasts contemporary design but also meets today’s stringent environmental standards, including full IMO Tier III compliance. The transformation was masterminded by the renowned Reymond Langton Design , which reimagined both the interior and exterior, replacing the original sharp interior lines with a more fluid, wave-inspired aesthetic.
Inside, H3 offers accommodation for up to 20 guests, with sprawling living spaces across the bridge, owner and main decks. The sundeck is an area for relaxation or even a workout with a view in the forward-facing gym, while the lower deck spa is a place to totally unwind, featuring a hair and beauty salon, massage room, Hammam and even a private hospital.
There is much to offer the adrenaline junkies too, with the yacht’s wide range of water toys and tenders, including Jet Skis, Seabobs, kayaks, SUPs, diving equipment and inflatables. Alternatively, you can enjoy a day of exploring hidden coastlines with the 10.1-metre Compass Open Sport tender, an 11.1-metre Compass Limo tender and two 6.2-metre Yachtwerft Meyer rescue tenders.
Superyachts to suit every taste
Edmiston’s fleet at the Monaco Yacht Show caters to a wide range of tastes and needs. Among the highlights is 80-metre Aalto , a go-anywhere cruising yacht designed for those with a passion for exploration and adventure. Wayfinder , a 68.2-metre support catamaran, is ideal for owners looking to expand their capabilities with extensive storage for tenders and toys. Superyachts with a proven charter record include 65-metre Resilience and 60-metre Samadhi , for owners keen to find something with strong commercial value. Other standouts include the 60-metre classic Feadship Lady Beatrice , for sale for the first time, and the meticulously maintained 55-metre Olympus , 54.3-metre Spirit and 50-metre Ela .
For sailing enthusiasts, Edmiston presents an extraordinary lineup. The 50-60-metre size range offers high-performance cruisers Fidelis and Salvaje , World Superyacht Award -winner Asahi or the charter-attractive Red Dragon . Moving into the smaller size bracket, Mariette of 1915 provides prospective owners with the opportunity to follow their classic yacht dreams, a 38-metre twin-masted schooner with a rich history. Alternatively, there will be two world-cruising sloops up for grabs, 34.9-metre State of Grace and 26-metre Mini Y .
Edmiston invites clients to explore these magnificent yachts at two key locations during the show: the Edmiston Pavilion at the Yacht Club de Monaco and its stand (QH19). Once again, Edmiston has partnered with business jet manufacturer Gulfstream, as well as Wajer and Range Rover, to ensure that guests can navigate the show with the utmost comfort and discretion. To book an appointment with Edmiston’s brokers at the Monaco Yacht Show and take the first step toward owning your dream yacht, contact the team today .

Genoa Boat Show 2024: between innovation and design
Y8, YYacht, design by Javier Jaudenes, Surge - Projects
The 64th edition of the most important Italian boat show is underway, marking the return to the Palasport in Genoa, renewed to a design by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop
The Genoa Boat Show 2024 , with growing numbers and a full calendar of talks, conferences and events, including the fifth edition of the Design Innovation Award, is being held in the Ligurian capital from 19 to 24 September .
At this, the 64th edition , no fewer than 1052 brands are exhibiting, with 1030 watercraft on display, 220,000 square meters of exhibition space between sea and land, with 85% of the areas out of doors (5,000 square meters more than in 2023), over 100 innovative models and 30 premieres.
Showcasing innovation in materials and propulsion to safeguard the environment – and not just the marine environment – the Genoa Boat Show returns to the Palasport, restored to the city after being restyled by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop , with a new logo evoking the stylized form of a ship’s bow.
“We now have an enduring combination of sustainability with innovation, forming the cornerstone of the steadily evolving sector of pleasure boating,” says Marina Stella, Director General of Confindustria Nautica . She stressed that “the Design Innovation Award, established by Confindustria Nautica and the Genoa Boat Show, was created precisely to enhance the excellence of nautical design and reward products that represent the best of technological and stylistic innovation.”

Genoa Boat Show 2024: Design Innovation Award is back
Now in its fifth edition, the Design Innovation Award is divided into ten categories and three Special Prizes – Innovation, Career and Talent – awarded to projects that stand out for originality, sustainability and social impact. The award ceremony is scheduled for 20 September at the Palazzo della Borsa in Genoa.
Maria Porro , confirmed for the second consecutive year as president of the Jury , has the task of choosing the most significant projects for cutting-edge technological solutions, innovative design and sustainable materials.
The involvement of the President of the Salone del Mobile.Milano is a natural consequence of the interaction between the two sectors. They are united by research in the field of materials, components and finishes that increasingly brings the world of interior design and supplies closer to pleasure boating.
“ Boating is an increasingly interesting sector for furnishings. Boats are houses on the water. This sector is an excellence of Made in Italy and has developed to an amazing degree, in large part due to the work of great architects,” pointed out Maria Porro on the first day of the Salone del Mobile.Milano last April. She was opening the Round Table “Yachting and Design. Made in Italy’s positive influence” organized by the Salone del Mobile.Milano in conjunction with the Genoa International Boat Show, as part of the cultural programm of the Event.
“ In recent years,” confirmed the architect Luisa Bocchietto, a member of the Steering Committee of the Design Innovation Award and moderator of the encounter, “boating has made rapid progress in terms of performance and interiors. For these reasons it can benefit greatly from furniture companies. At the same time, the designers who work with furnishings will derive many new ideas from designing for watercraft, compelling them to work on spaces in more careful and creative ways, and also in contact with nature . ”
