The Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club was founded in 1977 and is located on a barrier island in St. Petersburg, Florida. The club has an 18-hole golf course designed by Mark Mahannah, Sr., and his team of golf architects. The course is simply coined “Isla del Sol” by islanders and members of the community.

The original architects of the golf course were Chip Powell, Mark Mahannah, Sr ., Charles Mahannah, Jr., and Robert Walker. Mark Mahannah, Sr., was a well-respected golf course architect who designed over 100 courses in his career. The Isla Del Sol golf course is a par 72 course that plays to 6,307 yards from the back tees. The course has a slope of 130 and a USGA rating of 69.1. I recently had the pleasure of attending a wedding at Isla Del Sol Yacht & Country Club, and I was absolutely blown away by the experience. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by the breathtaking views of the ocean, which were made even more spectacular by the venue's open windows, allowing guests to soak in the serene beauty of the surrounding waters. The service at Isla Del Sol was top-notch, particularly at the bars. The bartenders were not only prompt but also incredibly friendly, making the experience even more enjoyable. It's worth mentioning the open bar selection, which was extensive and catered to all tastes, ensuring that everyone found something they loved. The food was another highlight of the evening. The appetizers were delicious and had everyone talking, but it was the dinner that truly stole the show. Each dish was a delight, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavors that left a lasting impression. The reception area itself was impressive in size, offering ample space for guests to mingle comfortably. The dance floor was spacious, allowing a large number of guests to dance and enjoy themselves without feeling cramped. The addition of multiple bar areas, including one outside, was a thoughtful touch, ensuring that guests didn't have to wait long for a drink. One of the most memorable aspects of the evening was the use of sparklers inside the venue. It added a fun and festive element to the reception, creating a magical atmosphere that was perfect for photographs. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this was done safely and was not considered a fire hazard. We just had a fantastic neighborhood Holiday party at Isla. The food and service were wonderful. What a yummy buffet of Prime rib carving station, mashed potatoe bar, pasta bar and desserts they provided for everyone to feast on. Melissa the catering Events Coordinator was a pleasure to work with.

A true gem of a club. The golf course is fun to play and the pool has the best views of Boca Ciega Bay. The gym unfortunately is small and I wish they had a few classes like spin, zumba. Pilates. But the ladies do have many active groups to join. They do need to get pickle ball and bocce courts to make this country club top rating. It will always get a 5 star rating because of the amazing views while you are dining.

Was looking to buy in the area and join but after staying with a friend. While I was there I witnessed the character of the members while playing golf. There were numerous that were just obnoxious and loud. They were playing music loudly and yelling obscenities. I also witnessed people drop or throw paper on the ground and not bother to pick it up. I've seen better manners and etiquette on public courses.

The Pool Bar offers a great grouper sandwich and a nice view on the water. Six of us had drinks and dinner outside on a perfect sunset evening. The menu offers mainly burgers and salads and has a full bar. It closes at 7:30 pm so get there early.

Isla Del Sol is a great track located right on the water before St. Pete Beach. The employees are always very kind and they definitely care about the course. Isla includes a free practice range, nice carts and a decent sized putting green. The course can be challenging if you're finding the hazards but there are a lot of easier holes and short par 4s if you're a long hitter. Their fairways are in my top 3 within Pinellas county. If you're not a good putter, I would recommend putting for 15-30 minutes before your tee time. These greens are FAST but they roll true.

Waterfront View

Not a bad place to play golf.. While away my golf pro arranged for me to play here.. Pros: greens are exceptional and true (fast) - men's clubhouse - clean... chuck was nice in the locker room... Cons: Tee Boxes please manicure this area.. I felt like I was tee'n off the fairway because the boxes were not mowed. Overall for winter the course was in good shape.. I'd definitely play when in Clearwater area... not too bad of a drive - the Grill in the property was okay..

I can easily speak to the calibre of the golf course. When my pop came in from the west coast the man said he wanted to swing the clubs a few times and had this place on speed dial at the recommendation of a friend. The course is well tended to and the pace of play is casual. Greens were in great condition (read: fast) and there was plenty of diversity between the par 5's and 3's to give your bag a workout.

As a former member of their yacht club I want to recommend them to anyone looking to join such an organization. The folks at Isla del Sol are the best! They have both yacht and golf/tennis memberships. The clubhouse is outstanding with an excellent restaurant. The pool is awesome, and the poolside bar was my favorite hangout while I was there. Their marina has what has to be the most beautiful views of Boca Ciega Bay. The only drawback is that because the marina kinda "sticks out" into the bay, the boats alongside the far wall get the best views but also all the rocking from the wakes of inconsiderate boaters who cruise by with no regard to the no-wake signs. The location is also very good, close to what I think is the best sushi in Tampa Bay (Tokyo Bay Restaurant) and they are just a few miles from Fort De Soto. That whole area is just gorgeous. When I retire, this is where I'm coming to live. I never played golf or tennis, as I was only a yacht club member. For reasons unrelated to the club I decided to dock my boat closer to Tampa, but I can say I was very sad the day we had to leave. I highly recommend these folks as they are as good as it gets!

Yuck this place sucks! Its full of rude snooty people! I went there once and a worker was being a jerk! He told me to take off my hat but he said it in a rude way. Also wen I went it was raining off and on so they had a snail problem! I don't think people want to see snails climbing up and down a wall while pulling up to this snooty club. Over all this place is a horrible place!

I have been here golfing three times with friends and we absolutely love this course. It's a great layout, in great shape in a very scenic setting. We'll be back.

The Tennis Center consists of nine lighted, Har-Tru Courts along with a fully staffed Tennis Pro Shop. All experience levels are welcome. They feature instruction, clinics, mixed doubles, singles, and other events. The Yacht Club features a 76-slip yacht harbor with depths ranging from 6′ to 22′. The docks are convenient to both the Gulf of Mexico (10 minutes) and downtown St. Petersburg (30 minutes).

The highly-rated St Pete Beach is just two miles west. There you can enjoy kicking back and relaxing or a wide variety of water sport attractions. A local favorite, Pass-A-Grille Beach is also just two and a half miles southwest of the community.

History of isla del sol.

The history of Isla began in 1957 when the State of Florida Department of Transportation decided to build the Pinellas Bayway consisting of an 8 mile Roadway system and 3 bridges. One bridge linking Isla to the Gulf Beaches and one bridge linking Isla to Tierra Verde the third bridge is on Mullet Key or Fort DeSoto. This enabled the developer to create our beautiful Island. After the island was finished the City of St. Petersburg Environmental Development Commission approved a site plan for 600 of the then proposed 4300 units. This was eventually scaled back to the 3200 households that the residents of Isla enjoy today.

If you haven't seen Isla del Sol and it's many beautiful sights take a leisurely drive through the Pinellas Bayway. Then you will see that our island is truly a tropical paradise.

Amenities/character/etc.

Isla is conveniently located to a variety of recreational facilities above and beyond our local amenities. We have Ft. DeSoto just a short drive to the South. The Gulf Beaches are a 3-minute drive to the West. If you like golf, tennis or boating Isla has a country club that consists of The Isla del Sol Golf Course; it is an exceptional 18-hole championship layout. Challenging fairways, beautiful bunkered greens, shimmering lakes and gardens enhance the beauty and heighten the challenge of the course. The Tennis Center consists of nine lighted soft, Har-Tru courts, first class instruction, clinics, member events, round robins, mixed doubles, active singles and doubles competitions, and other events held throughout the year. If you are a boater we have a yacht club as well. It boasts a 78- slip Yacht Basin for sailboats as well as large motor yachts and small runabouts alike.

It is not uncommon to see the muted pink roseate spoonbills feeding in the mornings in our tidal creeks. There are also numerous birds to be seen, such as the great blue heron, cormorants, Florida wood storks, the majestic osprey as well as many other sea birds feeding and resting in and around one of several of our lakes located throughout the island.

Architecture

Our quaint Spanish named streets meander through beautiful stately royal palms, queen palms, oak trees as well as hundreds of other tropical specimens. Our architecture is comprised of high-rise, mid-rise, 2, 3 and 4 story buildings as well as townhouses all with a Mediterranean flair. Our communities consist of Isla Key, La Puerta del Sol, Casa del Mar, Palma del Mar, Bahia del Mar and Vista de Oro. There are a variety of town homes, waterfront and Bayfront condos available in Isla Del Sole. Condos are available for year-round occupancy or seasonal rentals. Intercoastal waterfront views bring sparkling water views close to home. Condo prices range from the low-$300,000's to over $2,000,000's.These are very distinct communities, all of varied character and architectural style. Our island is truly paradise.

With spectacular panoramic views of Boca Ciega Bay and a gorgeous private beach and gazebo, Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club offers a magical setting for an outdoor ceremony. Or if you prefer, set up one of the lovely private rooms overlooking the blue-green waters of the bay to be your Chapel for the day. Boca Ciega Bay provides the romantic background for wedding receptions in the Ballroom. The smaller Private Dining Rooms also offer spectacular waterfront views and an elegant ambiance. Whatever size event you are planning, big or small, Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club has the facilities and staff to complement your wedding day!

Service options, venue notes.

There is no rental fee for the reception but there is a food and beverage minimum applied to all events. The venue allows 5 hours of event time excluding set up and clean up time. The set up fee for a wedding ceremony ranges from $720 to $800 and includes an extra hour of event time. Additional hours can be arranged for a fee of $500/hr. Please note venue is only available for rent on Thursday and Saturdays.
