The Ackinclose Family

This was the holiday of a lifetime. When we returned, we immediately got off the boat and walked straight into the office to book again for the following year.

We had an absolute blast. And really the boat was the centre piece of that. It was everything we could have asked for; spacious, luxurious, comfortable, plenty of water storage and fridge/freezer space, room to spread out, great cooking facilities, plenty of lounging areas and a hot shower and comfy bed at the end of every day.

Perhaps most importantly it allowed us to ‘choose our own adventure’! This holiday had it all…. turquoise waters, swimming, snorkeling, fishing, isolated beaches, white sand, incredible walks, beach combing, whales, dolphins, turtles, tropical fish, and some high sea adventures! It’s one thing to visit the Whitsundays, it’s another altogether to holiday ON the Whitsundays. Being on the water 24/7 is an experience unlike any other… it was pure joy!

We loved being on our own (the perfect covid safe holiday really!), enjoying each others company and everyday being an adventure. Not to mention relaxing and unwinding with the most amazing scenery and sunsets. This is a holiday you and your children will remember forever!

Thank you again to the Whitsunday Escape Crew for another amazing experience in the magnificent Whitsundays. We had a wonderful 10 days onboard the Seawind 1260 Volare, which kicked off with a great brief by Amee who was very thorough and very knowledgeable about operating Volare safely.

Throughout the charter the support from the ops team is first rate. Whether you want to know where the best place to overnight for the conditions, or if you need some advice about the boat, they will always go the extra mile to ensure you have the best holiday possible. Shoutout to Jordans mobile outboard repairs that paid us a quick visit in Stonehaven to help sort us out.

The absolute highlight for this trip was the time we had all of Whitehaven Beach entirely to ourselves for a few hours on a sunny afternoon. A magical moment that is unlikely to be repeated.

We’re already booked in for our next charter with Whitsunday Escape over Christmas and can’t wait to get back up there.

Skipper Your Own Yacht

No license is required for a Yacht Charter in the Whitsundays, unlike other locations Worldwide, however some experience is essential.

To charter a sailing vessel, you will need to have sailing experience and be competent in handling a sailing vessel in most conditions.

On the morning of your Charter we do a comprehensive boat and area briefing and if you feel that you are not comfortable captaining your own ship, we are happy to arrange for a Sail Guide for your Charter.

If you wish to do nothing at all on your holiday, and leave the work to us, we can also arrange a hostess/cook and crew.

How a Whitsundays bareboat charter works

A bareboating charter in the Whitsundays does not include a professional crew. You and your family or friends hire a fully equipped yacht or catamaran and operate the vessels yourselves. While on a bareboat charter, you decide your itinerary and the pace of your holiday – where you anchor each night and what activities you do around the Islands.

Some people have incredibly adventurous bareboat charters focused on sailing, resort hopping, hiking and snorkelling. Others prefer to make their Whitsundays sailing holiday a relaxing escape, enjoying lazing on pristine beaches, curling up with a book, unplugging and living onboard at a slower pace.

No qualifications are required to hire a bareboat in Queensland. Everyone receives a comprehensive briefing on how to operate their vessel safely and if needed, help is never far away. Our team are there to support all of our guests on their Whitsundays sailing adventure.  If you’re feeling unsure about your ability to handle a boat, you can hire a sail guide for an hourly or daily rate to make sure you’re confident with skippering the boat yourself.

Things you need to know

Self-charter: No. You will have exclusive use of Blanc and will be accompanied by a Cap tain and hostess.

Smoking:  No. Smoking is not permitted on the vessel.

Pets:  No. Pets are not allowed on  board.

Fuel included in price:  500 litres of fuel per charter.  An estimate can be provided once itinerary has been finalised.

Marina fees included in price: No.  An estimate can be provided once itinerary has been finalised.

Catering/meals included in price: No. We can put you in touch with a caterer who can assist you with a quote.

Payment terms : Charter is to b e paid in full 48 hours prior to departure.  Deemed paid only when cleared.

Marina fees and fuel costs vary depending on the duration and location of your charter. Marina fees need to be paid at each marina you choose to dock at overnight - the fees vary, but you may be able to find this information in advance by contacting the marinas directly.  Blanc wil l be full of fuel at the time of departure and is required to be filled prior to disembarking.

Once we receive your request, we will confirm the availability of Blanc, a nd we will also check alternative dates should what you require not be available.

Cruising the Queensland Coast Book

Cruising the Queensland Coast is a cruising guide for yachts cruising the Queensland coast, written by Greg Luck, the owner of Curlew Escape.

Each of the 13 coasts, from the Gold Coast to the Cooktown Coast, is covered in detail, including marinas, anchorages, passages, wind and wave averages, public pontoons and quick reference information and links for vital weather, search and rescue, notices to mariners and other vital information.

It features hundreds of chartlets and high-resolution aerial photos of anchorages to take the guesswork out of anchoring. Each anchorage has information on depth, bottom, mobile reception, marine park zone and recommended wind directions and strengths. The book is also integrated with the Navionics and C-Map apps and allows easy export of GPX files for import to your chart plotter. Anchorages and passages can be imported into Navionics and C-Map simply by clicking on the Navionics link ⎈ and GPX link ⎈ icons throughout the book.

The book also provides an extensive reference of useful information for the Queensland Coast such as skills and experience, recommended apps, charts and books, equipping the yacht for cruising, cruising logistics, climate and weather systems, marine hazards and the three major marine parks and their rules.

This book will help the first-time cruiser of the Queensland coast get started. For those familiar with the coast, the wealth of information, data and links all pulled together into one place and organised in a systematic way will prove invaluable.

For both, the more than one thousand external reference links make it easier to cruise the coast safely and simplify many of the everyday tasks of living on a cruising yacht such as finding and entering a marina and restocking once there.

We sail from QCYC in the picturesque  sheltered waters adjacent to the mouth of Cabbage Tree Creek.

Bayesian superyacht which sank off Italy is an "unsinkable" vessel, Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, said.

Vessels like Mike Lynch's stricken superyacht are "unsinkable", according to the chief executive of the firm which makes and sells them.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, told Sky News there are no flaws with the design and construction of the Bayesian superyacht which capsized in a storm off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, on Monday.

Five bodies were found by divers on Wednesday - taking the number of confirmed dead to six.

The Italian Sea Group also owns the firm that built British tech tycoon Mr Lynch's Bayesian, and Mr Costantino said the vessels "are the safest in the most absolute sense".

"Being the manufacturer of Perini [boats], I know very well how the boats have always been designed and built," he said.

"And as Perini is a sailing ship... sailing ships are renowned to be the safest ever."

He said their structure and keel made them "unsinkable bodies".

Mr Costantino said news of the sinking "put me in a state of sadness on one side and of disbelief on the other".

"This incident sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact," he said.

It is understood Italian prosecutors investigating the incident are continuing to hold interviews with the survivors.

On Tuesday they questioned the captain for more than two hours to help reconstruct what happened and provide useful technical details.

Four British inspectors are also in Porticello and have begun a preliminary assessment of events.

It is understood they will look at all relevant aspects of the incident, including the design, stability, and operation of the vessel. They will also examine the effects of the weather conditions experienced.

Twenty-two people were on board the vessel, 15 of whom were rescued - including Briton Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter Sofia.

Divers will resume efforts on Thursday morning to bring ashore a body they found earlier. One more person remains missing.
