Feadship unveils 88m ‘Musashi’ yacht

Previous Page
The Dutch yacht builder Feadship has launched 88m megayacht named ‘Musashi’, which is touted as the shipyard’s largest yacht.
‘Musashi’ is the second yacht to be launched in Feadship’s XL custom yacht series. The yacht’s steel hull was constructed by Feadship’s dedicated hull-building facility in Papendrecht, the Netherlands, and was delivered to Makkum for outfitting.
Feadship’s own De Voogt Naval Architects created Musashi’s naval architecture and exterior design. The unnamed billionaire who commissioned the yacht hired Sinot Yacht Design to handle the interiors.
Both the Exterior and Interior Design of Musashi was realised by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design.
Musashi’s quadruple MTU 16V 4000 M90 marine diesel engines provide a combined 14,600 hp.
Feadship is a co-operation between two shipyards: Royal van Lent and Royal De Vries, and maritime engineering company De Voogt Naval Architects.

Motor Yacht
Named after the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi, this 87.78-metre superyacht cuts the water like a katana thanks to her beautifully styled exterior - covered in glistening glass - designed by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design and De Voogt Naval Architects, with De Voogt also completing her naval architecture. Combine this with stylish, Japanese-inspired interiors, also created by Sinot and it becomes clear how Musashi came to be one of the most memorable Feadships on the water.
Known as Project #1002 when she entered construction, Musashi emerged in 2011 with a feudally inspired identity and modern Japanese style. This art-deco approach gave Musashi a sense of serenity throughout, and the space on board - thanks to a beam of 13.90 metres - allowed designer and builder to create some incredible lifestyle elements.
Musashi set new standards for five deck-superyachts in terms of space, style and connectivity with the world around you. The key areas of Musashi feature windows designed in large format thanks to a reinforced web structure. This expansive use of glass if difficult to implement in a yacht; however her expert design and construction team have opened up the light to create a sense of unity between inside and out.
Depending on the desired atmosphere, the windows can create a perfect sense of harmony with the outside world, or be adapted to offer a more sheltered, intimate setting when greater privacy is preferred.
Her main deck provides space for guests in eight suites, while the two master staterooms are located on the upper deck and the bridge deck. The lower deck is free for technical spaces and crew (including a spa and gym), while the top deck is devoted to making the most of time around spa pool and bar.
The balanced design of the various exterior spaces allows the owners, their family and their guests to choose whether they want to enjoy Musashi and her facilities together, or retire to one of the decks for more privacy.

MUSASHI Yacht
The MUSASHI yacht was built by Feadship, founded in 1949 with headquarters in The Netherlands. Feadship is not new to the game of building superyachts for the wealthy.
They have also been the engineers for superyachts, such as Bernard Arnault’s Symphony Yacht, Arrow superyacht (with a value of over $120 Million), and the well-known 94-meter Viva superyacht.
It is safe to say that the MUSASHI yacht, showed its brilliance and excellence in engineering luxury superyachts.
The $160,000,000 superyacht interior was designed by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design, a company responsible for creating beautiful and unique interiors for superyachts across the globe.
It is worth noting that Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design is also responsible for developing the interiors of the Feadship F45 Harle .
Being a luxury superyacht designed for the super-wealthy, she does not lack outstanding amenities.
The MUSASHI yacht is equipped with a beauty room, swimming pool, indoor and outdoor gyms, a movie room, and even an elevator.
MUSASHI is fitted with air-conditioning throughout the yacht and integrated with stabilizers to keep the superyacht steady and safe for the guests.
With an incredible amount of workspace to work with and a team of highly respected interior designers working on the yacht, it’s safe to say that she can hold parties and provide people with a great experience while traveling on the high seas.
The MUSASHI yacht can accommodate up to 18-20 guests and 24 crew members to attain the ship and guests’ needs.
With an approximate value of $160 Million, it is estimated that the annual running cost ranges between $10-$20 Million on top of maintenance and docking fees.
MUSASHI is an incredible behemoth of a yacht. With enough space and room to adventure almost endlessly, she has comfortable air-conditioned rooms for her guests and crew.
With luxuries such as a movie theatre, MUSASHI serves as a secondary floating home on the crystal blue waters of France.
MUSASHI Specifications
MUSASHI measures a length of 87.8m (288 ft) and her incredible hull was built using steel along with aluminum.
Powered by four very powerful propellers and its power coming from two 5,766hp MTU 20V4000 M93L diesel engines MUSASHI can reach a max speed of 21 knots with a cruising speed of 15 knots.
She has ample storage space for fuel with a 335,000 L fuel tank allowing her to travel up to 11 000 kilometers. She has an impressive weight of over 2463 tonnes.

Superyacht Musashi delivered by Feadship
Previously known under the hull number 1002, Musashi left the Dutch city of Harlingen yesterday evening, en route to Gibraltar, to be delivered. With a length of 87.78m, she's the largest Feadship ever built, dethroning the 85.95m Ecstasea launched in 2004.
The name of this Feadship XL-88, a Japanese one, comes from the renowned samurai, Miyamoto Musashi, who is not only revered as the greatest samurai of all time but also as the author of The Book of Five Rings which deals with strategy, tactics, and philosophy that is still studied today. This choice is not a surprise for a yacht owned by Larry Ellison. His yachts invariably bear a Japanese inspired name.
Designed by the duo De Voogt Naval Architects/Sinot Yacht Design, the 87.78 metres of Musashi accommodate a total of 18 guests and a crew of 23. One of the two master suites faces forward on the upper deck, while the second one is aft on the bridge deck. Seven further double guest cabins are on the main deck.
Built in steel and aluminium, she will be capable of excellent performance thanks to twin main MTU engines developing 4,300kW each.
With Musashi delivered, Feadship is now working on three other XL projects.

The 88 m Feadship XL Musashi yacht has had a preliminary launch (as yet unofficial) by Feadship Yachts at their De Vries Makkum shipyard today in The Netherlands. The very impressive new flagship of Feadship, superyacht Musashi, measures in at just a touch under 88 metres in length overall, making her the largest ever and a milestone for the Dutch yacht building giant.
Yacht Musashi by Feadship
Luxury yacht Musashi was launched the De Vries Makkum facility where the first custom Feadship XL motor yacht Ocean Victory was also launched. Motor yacht Musashi is the second hull of the 88m Feadship XL large custom yacht series, with yacht Ocean Victory being the first at 75m, making her the largest yacht so far built and launched by Feadship. M/Y Ocean Victory was the first Feadship XL and at 75.75 meter (248′.6”) an she was launched on the 18 October 2008, as witnessed by many excited invited guests following a spectacular laser show. Workers of the De Vries Makkum shipyard have since then been focused on the construction of the mega yacht Musashi new build.
The Feadhsip De Vries Makkum Shipyard where the new Yacht Musashi was launched
The Musashi superyacht is an 87.78 m (287.99ft) full displacement steel hulled private luxury motor yacht with an aluminium superstructure. Her naval architecture and her exterior design and lines were both created by Feadship’s De Voogt Naval Architects and in addition Sinot Yacht Design have been chosen by the yacht owner to undertake the interior design of the vessel.
The hull of superyacht Musashi was actually built by Feadship’s dedicated hull-building facility in Papendrecht, Holland. After her hull was finished she was then moved to Makkum where she has been outfitted and is currently still undergoing completing and finishing.
The Feadship Musashi yacht was built by De Vries Makkum and here is the Feadship XL Motor Yacht Ocean Victory which is the first hull in that line
Motor yacht Musashi is propelled by 4 propellers and shafts as driven by quadruple MTU 16V 4000 M90 marine diesel engines which are rated at 3,650 hp or 2,721 kw – giving a combined power of 14,600 Horse power or 10,887 kilowatts.
Very little else is currently known about the new Feadship Musashi yacht, at this point, and certainly further work remains to be carried out before she will be ready for sea trials and before she has been finally finished and delivered to the yacht’s owner. Photos and images of the superyacht are pending, as is official word from Feadship. CharterWorld news will bring further information about the new Feadship flagship superyacht Musashi as it comes to light.

More about Feadship, the builder of private motor yacht Musashi:
Over the years, since 1949, Feadship has launched more than 200 Feadship luxury yachts which are still in navigation today, yacht Musashi being the largest boat so far to add to that impressive list. Feadship Yachts is the combination of two Netherlands shipyards which came together in 1949, and the De Vries and Royal Van Lent families founded Feadship. The name of Feadship stands for the First Export Association of Dutch Shipbuilders.
The yacht’s name:
The name of the superyacht is most likely derived from Miyamoto Musashi who is a revered Japanese Samurai warrior. Indeed Musashi founded the Hyōhō Niten Ichi-ryū (or Niten-ryū) style of swordsmanship. he also authored the ‘Book of Five Rings’ (五輪書, Go Rin No Sho?) which is a book which still studied today relating to fighting tactics, strategy, and philosophy.
Some artwork of Samurai Musashi Miyamoto complete with two Bokken or wooden quarterstaves
The name of the owner of the superyacht has not as yet been officially published. There has, however, been some speculation that the yacht owner of Musashi may be the same American owner that owns the famous motor yacht Rising Sun. There are many exterior design similarities between the two yachts, and that together with fact that ‘Musashi’ is a Japanese word (he was in fact a legendary Japanese Samurai), indicates that there may be something in this theory as the same owner has owned several yachts with a Japanese themed name.
