The yard has had a diverse shipbuilding history. For decades it was a maintenance and repair hub for commercial ships until in the 1970s, with new ownership, the yard began building superyachts under the Mondomarine brand.

In 2015, Mondomarine celebrated the centenary year and also won the bid to take over Cantieri di Pisa and acquired the yard’s trademarks, warehouses and facilities.

Acquired by Palumbo Superyachts in November 2018, this luxury yacht builder focuses on custom yacht design and manufacturing, and the shipyard works with clients from conceptualization and engineering to construction and final delivery. Designers, engineers and yard employees work together to ensure that every detail meets Palumbo Superyachts’ exacting manufacturing standards.

Whist the shipbuilding yard is in Savona, Italy, the commercial and marketing offices are located in Monaco and the brand has undoubtedly got an international presence.

History of Mondomarine Yachts

Mondomarine’s legacy dates back to 1915, when Cantieri Navali Campanella founded the Campanella Shipyard. For several decades the yard was a maintenance and repair hub for commercial ships but in the 1970’s, under new ownership, the yard began building motor yachts of superyacht length and standard on the same site and under the Mondomarine brand.

In 1974 the prestigious Italian shipyard delivered superyacht MOHAMEDIA that received a special prize by Lloyd’s Register in 1975. From then through to 2018, a string of notable motor yachts were delivered by the yard, including IPANEMA, TRIBÙ, SARA STAR and SERENITY.

Mondomarine celebrated their centenary year in 2015 and embarked on a corporate rebrand to mark the occasion, highlighting their continued desire to improve and innovate. Also in 2015, Mondomarine won the bid to take over Cantieri di Pisa and acquired the yard’s trademarks, warehouses and facilities.

The Palumbo Group acquired Mondomarine in 2018 and added the name to their already extensive marine portfolio. Under the new ownership, Mondomarine launched two new lines in 2019: both the Classic and Discovery models. The rationale behind the all-aluminium build of the Classic is based on a revisited version of the distinctive style of the historic Mondomarine shipyard. The Discovery line will blend the characteristics of explorer and “shuttle style yachts” and the first aluminium and steel model is the Discovery 57, which was designed by Luca Dini Design.

Part of the Palumbo Group, Mondomarine is a notorious superyacht brand with over a century of history behind it.

The Mondomarine collection

The first yacht to be delivered from this new venture was the 157-foot (48m) superyacht MOHAMEDIA, built for the late Saudi Arabian billionaire Adnan Khashoggi.

Now focused on custom superyacht design and manufacturing, the shipyard works with an international array of clients and some of the industry’s foremost designers.

Mondomarine yachts of note include the sporty motor yacht STREAMLINER, which was the 50th yacht to be built by the yard, as well as the 162-foot (49.5m) superyacht TOY A, launched in 2009, and the award-winning 165-foot (50.5m) TRIBU, designed by Luca Dini and launched in 2007. Motor yachts: IPANEMA, TRIBÙ, SARA STAR and SERENITY are also some of the iconic superyachts of the world-renowned Mondomarine fleet.

Currently, the yard has two lines, Discovery and Classic, plus the two distinct superyacht concepts EIDOS and SEA FALCON.The Classic line was launched in May 2019, each model having a semi-displacement hull and low draft to guarantee access to the most exclusive beaches and shallow waters. Both the Classic and Discovery models come in 141-foot (43m) and164-foot (50m). A 207-foot (63m) Classic is also on offer and the Discovery line boasts two other models with lengths of 187-foot (57m) and 246-foot (75m).

Mondomarine Yachts for Sale

The Italian shipyard, Mondomarine carries the slogan “The next sea level”, declaring to always strive to raise the bar to a higher level. Located in the popular yacht building area of Savona, Italy, Mondomarine builds luxury custom motor yachts ranging from 131feet / 40meters to 197feet / 60meters.

Founded in 1915, the formerly named Cantieri Navali Campanella shipyard, had a diverse shipbuilding history. For decades, it was a maintenance hub for commercial ships and during World War II, it handled repairs for the Navy vessels. After the war, the yard focused on the renewal of the Italian merchant fleet and even the reconstruction of damaged buildings.

In the 1970s, with new ownership by the brothers Elio and Ferruccio Stroppiana, the shipyard began building superyachts under the Mondomarine brand with the construction of the renowned 157foot / 48meter superyacht MOHAMEDIA for billionaire Adnan Khashoggi.

Alessandro Falciai and Roberto Zambrini acquired Mondomarine and the production site in May 2013, aiming to step into the future with a few projects that should represent a turning point in the shipyard’s tradition and reinforce the Cantieri Navali Campanella as a brand. With its corporate and marketing functions headquartered in Monaco, the company continues to build its yachts at the 100-year-old Cantieri Navali Campanella shipyard.

Mondomarine yachts are built from light alloy and steel, and depending on the size of the yacht, it may be semi-displacement or displacement hull. Mondomarine holds a global patent for the Mouldless Method, pertaining to manufacturing yachts using composite materials. The Savona based shipyard is a full-cycle production site for constructions, repairs and refits, in line with ABS, Lloyd’s Register and RINA standards.

In addition to the yachts previously built by Cantieri Navali Campanella, Mondomarine has a fleet of 66 yachts built so far. During the last 11 years, Mondomarine sold 21 yachts over131feet / 40meters, 7 of them over 164feet / 50meters and 1 yacht over 197feet / 60meters. Among the most notable yachts are 161foot / 49meter ALEXANDER AGAIN by architect Giorgio Vafiadis, the 133foot / 41meter MANIFIQ with exterior by Cor D. Rover, 133foot/ 41meter OKKO, with exterior and interior by Giorgio Vafiadis, the 161foot / 49meter STREAMLINER (Mondomarine’s 50th yacht build), the 162foot / 49.5meter TOY A, and the award-winning 166foot / 50.5meter power superyacht TRIBU.

During the FLIBS 2016, Mondomarine unveiled the M42 project, the new 138foot / 42meter explorer yacht, ATLAS, designed by the renowned design house of Gregory Marshall. There are currently 22 new concept yachts by Mondomarine, ranging from the M74 Explorer to the SF30.

History of Mondomarine

Mondomarine, a prestigious brand in the luxury yacht manufacturing sector, had its beginnings originate from Campanella shipyard, a monumental success in the marine industry with a history dating as far back as 1915. The shipyard, based in Savona, Italy, moved into the hands of the Stroppiana family in 1978, and it was then the Mondomarine brand took shape. Through a strategic fusion of past values with innovative experiences, Mondomarine quickly grew into an internationally acclaimed symbol of Made in Italy, specialising in building custom-yachts ranging from 40 to 75 meters in aluminium alloy and steel.

Over the years, Mondomarine continued flourishing in the global field, delivering an impressive lineup of magnificent yachts. However, it faced financial difficulties in late 2017 and forced into liquidation. But the historical Italian shipyard didn't end there. In February 2018, Palumbo Superyachts, a leading player in the luxury yachting sector, acquired Mondomarine's assets, facilities, and intellectual property rights. The purchase breathed new life into Mondomarine's endeavours, and the brand name was reinstated as part of Palumbo Superyachts' network.

As part of Palumbo's strategic plan for Mondomarine, the shipyard in Savona has been reinforced to secure its longevity and further enhance its production capabilities. Staying true to the original foundation of artisan craftsmanship blended with the latest technology, the shipyard now covers an area over 35,000 mq. functional UFO jet boat zooms through water as a motorized flying saucer for lakes or rivers

Craftsman tran long ho builds his ufo jet boat from scratch.

If anyone has ever asked if it was possible to create a UFO-looking jet boat , craftsman Tran Long Ho has proven it to be more than possible when he produced his very own motorized flying saucer. Built from scratch, and with his own team as seen in the video, the UFO jet boat captures the design of the mysterious flying object—only now it’s right before the viewers’ eyes, so it may no longer be a mystery (except for what’s hidden in the cabin).

Mr. Tran Long Ho starts building his UFO jet boat using an earthy, sand-textured material and pours cement to harden it. In the video documenting his design process, he and the team mold it to follow the flying saucer’s shape before coating it with purple paint. The steel frame comes next, put together to hold the watercraft’s body in place.

Next, the craftsman produces hexagon cutouts from thin slabs of wood and plasters them on the frame as a form of insulation in the cabin. The first layer of coating comes next, and they all wait for it to dry before applying the motors that get the jet boat going.

When the base is all covered, Mr. Tran Long Ho cuts hexagon shapes around the surface of the UFO jet boat’s top covering. As he shows in the video that documents the making of his motorized flying saucer, a series of solar-panel-like plates mask these holes, staying true to typical UFO depictions.

The engine sits in the heart of the watercraft, hidden just below the driver’s seat. This is why the Vietnamese craftsman built the lower body of the jet boat with a hollow, oval shape. First, it’s how a UFO might look, and second, it functions as the housing for the motors.

These motors may not work without switches, which come next in the making of the jet boat. For the wiring, Mr. Tran Long Ho hides them behind the fuzzy material that tops the angles and corners of the hexagon cutouts. It’s a smart move to make the interior as wire-free as possible. When it comes to cruising inside the jet boat, the pilot might need to recline as much as they can because of the limited overhead space.

That means they have to stretch their arms and reach for the steering wheel, just like the craftsman testing his watercraft on a river. That may not be an inconvenience at all, not when once they’ve revved up the engine, they can zoom through the water, speeding away as fast as a jet ski with occasional hops for a thrilling ride.
