The 180-foot Marie , with her lustrous black hull, boom, and masts is a one-of-a-kind custom vessel, combining classic aesthetics, contemporary openness, and the highest level of modern technology. Her 1920’s André Hoek design is reminiscent of the Golden Age of Yachting, yet she offers all the spacious comforts and amenities of a 21st century yacht.

Marie sails extremely well and provides a steady motion at sea. Her bulb keel yields a very fast hull; the carbon fiber, hybrid modulus spars fitted with EC6 rigging are state-of-the-art, as are her furling booms, and all her forward-thinking systems. For a competitive edge, Marie sports a set of sails that allow 18+ knots close reaching.

About The Marie

The magnificent Marie personifies heart and soul–she was conceived with love and a profound sense of purpose and spirit. She is a yacht to stand the test of time. Marie is a successful combination of classic lines and modern performance.

Marie ’s deck and outside areas accommodate numerous places for entertaining, dining and lounging. The main cockpit is a generous area offering casual seating arrangements and a large dining table for al fresco meals. The private aft owner’s cockpit is perfect for an intimate breakfast.

Down below, Marie has a split-level main salon panelled in buttery anigré and flooded with light. The lower salon features a Steinway Baby Grand Piano for a musical soirée and comfortable sofa seating. A formal dining area is forward. Artwork and antique armament abound adding colorful eclectic touches to the clean contemporary design of the interior. There are sumptuous guest accommodations for up to ten including an enormous master suite with a California King-size bed, lounge area, office, and steam room, and three luxurious guest cabins all ensuite.

Sonos Music system to play music through all zones onboard, complete with iPod docks in guest areas. Guest cabins also have a local DVD player for playing a movie or DVD or a music CD. Each guest cabin has its own local Marantz controller to select the desired function.

Communications: supplied to the yacht via VSat, Fleet broadband, Iridium and WiFi.

Notes: Marie can accommodate 8 guests using the standard beds or 10 guests using the Pullmans with 3 people in 2 staterooms.

Charter The Marie

What you get when you charter Marie ?

Whether for charter or for private use, Marie is certainly the “Star of the Sea”.

A voyage aboard Marie has something for everyone: exciting sailing, fabulous accommodations, great food and wonderful crew. Plus, there are endless opportunities for fun in the sun. In addition to sailing the big boat, Marie offers snorkelling, rendezvous diving, water-skiing, wake-boarding, fishing, and SUP along with a variety of blow-up toys. If you prefer spectator sports, there is a crow’s nest lift that operates hydraulically and can take two guests 123 feet up the main mast for a bird’s-eye view.

The Marie is usually in the Caribbean for the European winter/spring season and in the Mediterranean for the European summer.

Dining is an enormous treat aboard Marie . There is a formal dining room down below, but weather permitting, most guests prefer on-deck dining. The stewardesses take great pleasure in decorating the table with an inventive place setting each evening. Multiple-star gourmet meals accompanied by fine wines are the norm. Menus can be catered to your tastes; Asian fusion? Caribbean? Italian? Spa cuisine? The world is your oyster aboard Marie !

He has been working on Yachts for over 12 years; starting as an instructor he then skippered a small sailing boat across the Atlantic at the age of 21. This long trip made him switch to engineering as he didn’t like being at sea without knowing how to fix things, and he’s not too bad at it.

Tom met his wife on his last vessel and they now have two children. He spends his time off with his family renovating a house in the South of France.

Sailing yacht Marie is a 55m (180ft) ketch-rigged sailing yacht built by the Dutch yacht builder Vitters Shipyard with design by Hoek Design and David Easton.

Sailing yacht Marie is a sister-yacht to the award-winning ketch “Adele”. The 55m Vitters ketch Marie has a hull, keel, rudder and sail plan identical to Adèle however features a new and entirely customised interior and deck layout tailored to suit the owner’s needs.

Superyacht Marie’s interior is designed by Hoek Design and David Easton Design and features the renowed privacy concept. The aft owner’s cabin is directly connected to an owner’s deckhouse and aft cockpit. The two helm stations are incorporated in the main cockpit forward of the owner’s deckhouse. Sailing yacht Marie has a large main deckhouse and a vast forward deck.

Considerable weight saving was achieved with the use of composite rigging and high modulus carbon spars. Additionally the sailing yacht Marie has been fitted with a light weight interior to further reduce the weight of the yacht and therefore enhance her sailing capabilities. Superyacht Marie was built in Alustar to the standards of ABS and MCA specifications.

According to Hoek Design, the 180ft ketch Marie was launched on June 22nd 2010. Sea trials will be conducted in July after which Marie will head to the Mediterranean and will be on display at the Monaco Yacht Show.

The 180 ft ketch S/Y Marie is to have an identical hull, keel, rudder and sail plan to yacht Adèle, however she features a new and entirely customised interior and deck layout. She has a large main deckhouse and a vast forward deck and this allows the yacht’s entire deck and interior layout to be tailored to the owner’s taste and requirements.

MARIE features

A powerful regatta contender and the ideal family charter yacht, MARIE is in a class of her own. Custom-built in the style of a gentleman’s yacht by Dutch shipyard Vitters, she was delivered in 2010 and fully refitted in 2015. Winner of the St Barth’s Bucket and the Loro Piana BVI regatta, MARIE loves to race and has an impressive top speed of 17 knots.

After an exhilarating day of sailing, MARIE offers guests luxury accommodation in 4 beautifully-decorated ensuite staterooms. MARIE also has onboard accommodation for her passionate crew of 8 experienced yachtsmen.

Designed for ultimate privacy, the lower deck owner’s suite is a stunning light-filled space. The master suite offers a deckhouse/study plus his & hers ensuites. The master suite also opens onto a secluded open-air cockpit, the perfect spot for after-dinner drinks.

The remaining guest accommodation is made up of a VIP cabin and 2 twin cabins, one of which can be converted to a double. Both twin cabins are also equipped with a Pullman bed for 2 additional guests.

The main saloon is styled as a formal living room and features an open staircase leading to a seating area. Equipped with a Steinway baby grand piano, the main saloon is ideal for entertaining. MARIE has an elegant formal dining area with a table for 8 guests.

One deck up, a second saloon is spread over two levels and offers guests a seating area and bar. The saloon is equipped with a media server and a music system.

A crow’s nest offers the opportunity to take in endless views from 37 meters up the mast. Ornamental arms including working cannons on either side of the owner’s cockpit take guests back to the golden age of naval exploration. A shaded open cockpit with a large seating and dining area is at the heart of the onboard action.

Get the adrenaline going with her water-skis, wakeboards and tows. Explore the harbour with kayaks and paddle boards. Get into the water with the snorkelling gear or teach the kids to sail with her beautiful vintage dinghy, Marietta.

Superyacht Marie, a Racing and Cruising Adventure

Superyacht Marie is a 55 meters luxury sailing yacht, custom built to the highest standards. Traditional craftsmanship has married with modern technology, resulting in a powerful, fast, and comfortable cruiser. She offers an elegant owner’s suite and has another three guest extensive cabins. The interior is open and airy, adorned with nautical paintings, antiques, a classic piano, and cannons. Superyacht Marie also offers performance being a past winner of the Superyacht Cup when it was organized in Palma de Majorca. Fraser Yachts , the broker company, says that she is now better than new!

The Superyacht Cup usually takes place in Antigua, the Caribbeans. Another mention: This article may sound like a copy because it was inspired by what appeared on the various brokers’ websites. I tried to cut off some of the superlatives, but eliminating all would leave me without the article.

This instantly recognizable ketch was built in the Netherlands by Vitters Shipyard , in 2010. They used an André Hoek design. Her masts were planned to carry a huge 3,300 square meters (33,500 sqft) area of sail, which can propel the yacht to 17 knots. Her entire structure has been designed for smooth sailing, with a bulged keel lending both swiftness and stability to her hull, which has been shaped and honed using the latest testing technology.

I already mentioned that Superyacht Marie has a light, comfortable and welcoming open-plan interior with traditional features including miniature cannons, muskets and a suit of armor, recalling the Golden Age of exploration of the high seas. [High kitsch if you ask me.]

Superyacht Marie is for sale and it will be on show at Monaco Yacht Festival at the end of September 2018. The asking price is € 23,300,000 (approx. $ 27,021,000). Not cheap at all, and the claim on Monaco show’s website is that they considerably reduced the price showing the owner’s desire for a quick sale. It won’t be that quick with this money, the financially healthy potential owner can afford to build a new one with the same price. But the advantage to buy Marie is that she is ready to go, isn’t it? You don’t have to wait for a newer one to be built…

Canadian among 6 missing after superyacht sinks in storm off Sicily; 1 dead

British tech magnate Mike Lynch and five other people were missing after their luxury superyacht sank during a freak storm off Sicily early Monday, Italy’s civil protection and authorities said. Lynch’s wife and 14 other people survived.

Lynch, who was acquitted in June in a big U.S. fraud trial, was among six people who remain unaccounted for after their chartered sailboat sank off Porticello, when a tornado over the water known as a waterspout struck the area overnight, said Salvo Cocina of Sicily’s civil protection agency.

The vessel had overturned around 5 a.m. off the port of Porticello. The Italian coast guard said that the superyacht had a crew of 10 people and 12 passengers. They included British, American and Canadian nationalities.

One body had been recovered, and police divers were trying to reach the hull of the ship, which was resting at a depth of 50 meters (163 feet) off Porticello, near Palermo, where it had been anchored, rescue authorities said.

Global Affairs Canada says it's aware of reports that a Canadian has died after the luxury superyacht sank off Sicily during a violent storm.

The agency says consular officials are in contact with local authorities, but says it can provide no further information due to privacy concerns.

Authorities in Sicily say one body has been recovered and police divers are trying to reach the hull of the ship as six people remain unaccounted for.

They say 15 others survived. The Italian coast guard says the yacht had a crew of 10 people and 12 passengers.

Salvo Cocina, of Sicily’s civil protection agency, says the crew and passengers hailed from a variety of countries, including Britain, the United States, France, Germany and Myanmar.

Rescue authorities say the yacht — the 56-metre British-flagged Bayesian — was anchored off Porticello, near Palermo, when a tornado over the water struck the area overnight.

A sudden fierce storm had battered the area overnight, and struck the place precisely where the 56-metre (184-foot) British-flagged Bayesian had been moored.

“They were in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said Cocina, noting that another superyacht nearby wasn't as badly damaged and helped rescue some of the 15 survivors, who included Lynch's wife Angela Bacares.

The Bayesian was notable for its single 75-metre (246-feet) mast — one of the world’s tallest made of aluminum and which was lit up at night, just hours before it sank. Online charter sites listed it for rent for up to 195,000 euros (about US$215,000) a week.

One of the survivors, identified as Charlotte Emsley, said she momentarily lost hold of her one-year-old daughter Sofia in the water, but then managed to hold her up over the waves until a lifeboat inflated and they were both pulled to safety, Italian news agency ANSA reported, quoting the mother. The father, James Emsley, also survived, said Cocina.

Eight of the 15 people rescued and taken ashore at Porticello were hospitalized while the others were taken to a hotel. One body believed to be the cook was found near the wreck, but six others were unaccounted for and believed inside the hull, said Luca Cari, a spokesperson for the Italian fire rescue service.

Rescue crews located the vessel and deep-water police divers were trying to access the hull, Cari said. The operations, which were visible from shore, involved helicopters and rescue boats from the coast guard, fire rescue and civil protection service.

Fisherman Francesco Cefalu’ said he had seen a flare from shore at around 4:30 a.m. and immediately set out to the site but by the time he got there, the Bayesian had already sunk, with only cushions, wood and other items from the superyacht floating in the water.

“But for the rest, we didn’t find anyone,” he said from the port hours later. He said that he immediately alerted the coast guard and stayed on site for three hours, but didn't find any survivors. “I think they are inside, all the missing people.”

He said he had been up early to check the weather to see if he could go fishing, and surmised that a sudden waterspout had struck the yacht.

“It could be that the mast broke, or the anchor at the prow pulled it, I don’t know,” he said.

Cocina said the crew and passengers hailed from a variety of countries: In addition to Britain and the United States, passengers and crew were from Antigua, France, Germany, Ireland, Myanmar, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Spain, he said.

The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch is deploying a team of four inspectors to Italy to conduct a preliminary assessment. The Foreign Commonwealth and Development office said it was “providing consular support to a number of British nationals and their families.”

Dutch foreign ministry spokesperson Casper Soetekouw said the lone Dutch citizen on board, a man, had been rescued and was not in a life-threatening condition.

Lynch, once hailed as Britain’s king of technology, was cleared in June of fraud and conspiracy charges related to Hewlett Packard’s US$11 billion takeover of his company, Autonomy Corp.

The not-guilty verdicts followed an 11-week criminal trial in San Francisco that delved into the history of HP’s 2011 acquisition of Autonomy, a business software firm founded by Lynch.

The fraud accusations represented a dramatic turn in the fortunes of an entrepreneur once described as the Bill Gates of Britain — a title he seemed to live up to when he netted an US$800 million from the Autonomy sale.

The acquittal vindicated Lynch, who had vehemently denied wrong doing and portrayed HP as a technological train wreck.

“I’m looking forward to returning the UK and getting back to what I love most: my family and innovating in my field,” Lynch said in a statement released after the verdict.

The yacht, built in 2008 by the Italian firm Perini Navi, can accommodate 12 passengers in four double cabins, a triple and the master suite, plus crew accommodations, according to Charter World and Yacht Charters.

The vessel, which previously was named Salute when it flew under a Dutch flag, featured a sleek, minimalist interior of light wood with Japanese accents designed by the French designer Remi Tessier, according to descriptions and photos on the charter sites.
