Northern Sun: the yacht in Below Deck Down Under Season 2

northern sun below deck down under season 2

And it’s hard to imagine a better yacht than the Northern Sun motoryacht to explore this iconic area. The Northern Sun is a 50.8m (now yacht) that used to be a vessel dedicated for ice exploration. The refit work took two years but was clearly worth it when we look at the result displayed in this second season of the Australian Spin off.

Although the Northern Sun is built by the Japanese Narasaki shipyard, it surely is a boat that fits Australian waters quite well and could delight anyone looking to explore the most rugged locations in style, whether they are polar or tropical.

Northern Sun is available for charter from $161,700 / week . Her latest asking price was $15,000,000 .

New Below Deck Med yacht HOME layout map and video tours

Below Deck Med super yacht Home

On the season premiere of Below Deck: Mediterranean Season 7, viewers are introduced to the crew that will be hosting the next few months of high seas drama on Bravo. It would be difficult to single out the sexiest new cast member this season, but it may just be the super-fine 50 meters of hybrid yacht hotness that is the M/Y Home!

The elegant Heesen superyacht was built in 2017 and was the Dutch shipbuilder’s first to be equipped with hybrid propulsion. “In this case ‘Hybrid’ means that the yacht can draw on two sources of power for propulsion: diesel mechanical and diesel electrical,” Heesen explains in their promotional brochure for Home . “Either or both sources can be used at the same time. This provides less noise and vibration, a more flexible power management which means better efficiency.”

Home measures 49.8 meters (163 feet, 4 inches) and has an overall beam of 9.1 meters (29 feet, 10 inches). It’s lightweight aluminum hull helps Home achieve a gross tonnage just under 500. Its max speed with a half load is 16.3 knots with diesel direct and 9 knots with diesel electric.

Moving on to the stats that are more relevant to casual Below Deck viewers, Home has accommodations for 9 crew members and 12 guests. There is a full-beam owner’s stateroom for Captain Sandy, one full-beam VIP guest suite, two double guest suites, and two twin guest suites.

Superyacht Home floor plan

I’m an avid Below Deck fan and I don’t feel like I ever have a very clear understanding of the layout on the boats featured on the various shows. To help myself (and other fans) during Below Deck Med Season 7, I’ve put together a map of the layout of M/Y Home that should help you imagine the 3D landscape in which all of the drama plays out.

I’ve color coded the different levels, starting with the sun deck (green) at the top and working down through the wheelhouse (pink), main deck (yellow) and lower deck (grey).

Below Deck Med Yacht HOME floor plan layout map

Here are individual images for the lower three levels arranged vertically for easier viewing on mobile devices:

Super yacht Home layout

You will notice that the crew resides in the lower deck at the front (bow) of the boat. There are four small cabins, four bathrooms, and eight twin bunk beds. The crew mess is right next to the cabins in the lower deck.

The captain’s quarters is located on the wheelhouse level and has a door that opens directly into the bridge.

The charter guest master suite is located on the main deck. I was surprised to see that the Home’s galley (kitchen) is right on the other side of the wall from the master suite bathroom.

One question I have after checking out the Home layout is where the engineer(s) sleeps? Also, I thought production takes a room to set up their equipment? The chef, three stews, and four deck crew members take up all eight crew bunks, right? If I figure out answers to these questions I will update this post for clarification.

Celebrations large and small will begin in the main salon that joins with the formal dining area, creating a massive environment that works well for large dockside gatherings as well as intimate family meals. The bar aft has a wide selection for light afternoon refreshments all the way to strong spirits for guests who like to party hard into the early hours.

Since the Master suite is on the upper deck where the sky lounge is typically placed, this second salon – which doubles as a cinema – is instead a media room forward on the main deck. This puts all the indoor entertainment areas on the same level to convenience both guests and crew.

Engineering is always a priority with Heesen, and luxury yacht SIROCCO has an excellent top speed of 26 knots and a cruising speed of 20 knots using her MTU 3,700 HP engines.

The Exteriors

Heesen and Omega Architects worked together to style the exterior, opting for classic curves and a strong muscular appearance in black and white.

The main deck aft is an easily accessed social hub off the main salon where the sofas, armchairs and coffee tables are arranged to create a cosy and casual ambiance for morning coffee right through to nightcaps at twilight. It’s also the best place to be when guests want access to the water and the toys, and sunbathing on the swim platform below.

Exterior profile

The upper deck aft can be a private outdoor terrace for the occupants of the Master suite, or accessed by all for memorable outdoor meals at the large alfresco dining setting. Whether dining or not, the sofa seating curving along the edge welcomes guests to take the weight off their feet and enjoy the moment in the warm Mediterranean breeze. The foredeck meanwhile has a row of sunpads to soak up the sunshine and the views, and seating behind makes a great alternative to formal lunches and refreshments without ever needing to leave the area.

The sundeck is a superb retreat to watch the vibrant Dalmatian Coast sunsets: Guests can relax and chat over cocktails on the sundeck forward, or head aft to soak in the eight-person Jacuzzi before drying off on the sunpads on a clear starry night.

The Accommodation

There are 6 wonderfully large en-suite cabins on board to sleep up to 12 guests: 1 Master suite, 1 VIP stateroom, 2 double cabins and 2 twin cabins.

The upper deck Master suite enjoys 180° views and a shaded aft terrace for quiet evenings under starry night skies or morning coffee in the shade while marvelling at the white cliffs along the Istrian peninsula. The air-conditioned bedroom has TV entertainment for those mornings when guests can’t sleep but also don’t want to get out of their king-sized bed, and the cavernous en-suite bathroom comes with a marble bathtub for the occupants to soak away their cares.

Accommodation

The VIP stateroom on the main deck is well-proportioned to offer a queen-sized bed and loveseat in addition to TV entertainment and another large en-suite bathroom.

The rest of the guest accommodation on the lower deck is each unique, while ensuring that guest comfort and room entertainment is not neglected.

The Water Toys

M/Y SIROCCO has a great collection of water toys to keep guests active and entertained from one side of the Mediterranean to the other. Among the collection is:

  • 2 x jet skis
  • a wakeboard
  • snorkelling equipment

Guests who want to keep moving in the evenings or while cruising have a well-equipped gym on the sundeck that can be opened up to the fresh sea air.

Want a luxurious holiday with all the details taken care of? See the spectacular Croatian charter grounds for yourselves in opulence and tranquillity with superyacht SIROCCO this season.

Yes, You Can Really Charter Below Deck Med ’s New Superyacht, Home

Renting or buying Season 7’s new vessel won’t come cheap though.

"Home", the new yacht from 'Below Deck: Mediterranean' is available to rent or buy.

When Captain Sandy Yawn and her all-new crew set sail on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 7, they’ll be in uncharted territory aboard a new superyacht, Home . While cruising the pristine waters of Malta, Captain Sandy was working for the first time on the 163-foot motor yacht, which Bravo described as a “complex hybrid vessel” that the Below Deck Med vet found to be “more unpredictable to navigate.” As the show’s Season 7 trailer previewed, Home won’t make it through the charters entirely unscathed either: In one clip, Captain Sandy laments that she hit something for the first time in her career, while another scene teases a potential “crashing” incident.

Rest assured that there weren’t any serious accidents because Home is currently available for charter in the Caribbean region at a cost ranging from $245,000 to $273,000 per week , depending on the season. Meanwhile, Home — the first diesel-electric motor yacht to appear on Below Deck — is also listed for sale with an asking price of just over $30.8 million. Per the listings, the superyacht, which Dutch shipyard Heesen built in 2017, sleeps up to 12 guests in six cabins and features contemporary, “Ibiza-style” decor. Among Home ’s many amenities are a large sun deck, jacuzzi, swim platform, air-conditioned gym, and sky lounge.

Home also sleeps up to 10 crew members. In Below Deck Med Season 7 , that includes Captain Sandy, returning Season 6 deckhand Mzi “Zee” Dempers, and newcomers: chief stew Natasha Webb, chef Dave White, bosun Raygan Tyler, stews Natalya Scudder and Kyle Viljoen, and deckhands Storm Smith and Jason Gaskell. Following her involvement in Hannah Ferrier’s mid-Season 5 firing, Malia White cited a scooter accident and pending exams — not fan backlash — as her reasons for not returning for Season 7. (“It’s not that I might never come back to the show,” Malia told Showbiz Cheat Sheet in May. “I’m just not on the next season.”)

Season 7’s “new boat with new department heads” might bring Captain Sandy some challenges during her “first time ever in Malta,” but she’s naturally ready to face them all head-on. The network also told viewers to expect “outrageous costumes, wild nights out, and some major inter-departmental drama,” which “doesn’t even cover what the charter guests are going to bring in the new season.”

As always, expect plenty of romance at sea, too. As Bravo’s first look teased, “boatmances” will be a major topic of conversation this season, including flirtations between Natalya and Storm, as well as several questions about the true nature of Natasha and Dave’s relationship. There could even be a fling between a crew member and a charter guest, too. Though Bravo is premiering the series on July 11, Peacock subscribers can access new Below Deck Med Season 7 episodes a week early beginning July 4.

Fans can also experience Home for themselves off-screen — but it will cost way more than their monthly cable bills.

By Editorial Team   18 April 2019

It has been revealed that Below Deck Mediterranean Season 4 has been filmed around the glittering cruising grounds of the South of France , with the 47m/154ft superyacht SIROCCO playing host to the season 4 crew and guests.

Hitting our screens on June 3, Below Deck Mediterranean is making its triumphant return for season 4, and this time we can expect Captain Sandy Yawn and her crew to be exploring the billionaire’s playground of the French Riviera .

The home port for season 4 has been identified as Vieux Port Golfe Juane, which sits in between the glitzy yachting marina of Antibes and Cannes. This prime situation means there will be a number of excellent locations on the itinerary for season 4; take a look at a South of France yacht charter itinerary for more information.

Which yacht will be starring in Season 4 of Below Deck Mediterranean?

Superyacht SIROCCO will be starring in season 4 of Below Deck Mediterranean. She is a returning favourite of the show, having starred in season 2, when the crew headed to Croatia. The Heesen-built motor yacht has a variety of alluring features, including an 8-person jacuzzi, exotic interiors and a multimedia entertainment room.

If you'd like to view a complete run-down of Below Deck yachts, their real names and how much it costs to rent them , you can head over to our article. We even have the scoop on the brand new series 'Below Deck Sailing Vessel '.

Which crew members are starring in Below Deck Mediterranean season 4?

As well as a returning superyacht, season 4 of Below Deck Mediterranean will also see plenty of familiar faces in the crew. An original fixture since season one, Chief Stewardess Hannah Ferrier will be back again to head up the interior crew, under the guidance of Captain Sandy Yawn at the helm. Below her, Colin Macy-O’Toole and freshly-promoted bosun Joao Franco will be striving to ensure smooth sailing.

Two new deckhands will be joining them; Travis Michalzik and Jack Stirrup are making their television debuts on the show, and Bravo TV has hinted that both of them could be at the centre of drama during season 4.

Adding to the interior crew, Hannah will be joined by experienced second stew Aesha Scott and third stew Anastasia Surmava. The three seemed to enjoy a budding friendship, over the course of filming, with Scott posting a picture of them laughing under the sun in Antibes.

Marking a first for the Below Deck franchise, Mila Kolomeitseva will be the first female chef in Below Deck’s history. The experienced chef boasts Cordon Bleau training from Paris, so she should be right at home in the French Riviera setting; but she has her work cut out for her after suffering from a bout of food poisoning before the first charter.

View this post on Instagram Filming this show was easily the most fun thing I’ve ever done!! SO excited for that first episode to air and laugh as everyone rips the shit out of me. I’d say these two probably managed everything a bit more gracefully than I did 😂 A post shared by Aesha Jean (@aesha_jean) on Apr 16, 2019 at 7:18pm PDT

Could Chef Ben be back?

Social media was sent into a frenzy when a picture was posted showing Chef Ben Robinson hanging out with the crew of Below Deck Mediterranean season 4 in a restaurant in Nice. While the Below Deck yachties have been known to meet up during filming, fans were quick to point out that Chef Mila did not appear to be present at the table. This would not be the first time Ben has swooped in mid-way through a charter season to help out- after Chef Leon was sent packing in Below Deck season 3, it was Ben who stepped in to save the day.

If you're counting down the days until the original Below Deck is back, check out our article, which tells you the destination and the yacht which will feature in Below Deck season 7 .

Where was Below Deck Mediterranean Season 4 filmed?

Below Deck Mediterranean season 4 was filmed around the South of France’s Cote d’Azur. As mentioned above, the home port has been identified as Vieux Port Golfe Juane, which is located in close proximity to the buzzing bars and nightclubs of Antibes. The yachties will have plenty of opportunities to let loose at the end of every charter.

Bay and promenade in the South of France

On the shores of Antibes, the crew can expect to find picturesque squares filled with lively cafes, boutique shops and authentic ice-cream parlours. Off the coast, the waters of Antibes are crystal-clear, creating the perfect opportunity to drop anchor and enjoy some watersports.

The historic city of Cannes, home to the iconic Cannes Film Festival, will be one of the destinations on the yacht’s itinerary. As well as some great beaches, the romantic city is also home to cobbled streets, ornate Belle Epoque architecture and fantastic waterfront restaurants.

Cannes town aerial view

One of the most iconic destinations in the South of France, St Tropez is a superyacht playground. The once-humble fishing village is now a happening hotspot, with a vibrant shopping scene, relaxing beach clubs and wild entertainment line-up in the evenings.

The land of luxury and a certified superyacht hub, Monaco is awash with glitz and glamour. When the F1 Monaco Grand Prix comes to town, the pint-sized principality is transformed into a hive of celebrities and F1 legends.  The region is equally alluring at other times of the year, with plenty of designer fashion houses, world-class restaurants and the casino of Monte-Carlo to keep guests happy.

Ile Saint Marguerite

Set adrift from the mainland, Ile Saint Marguerite is a lovely little island covered in pine forests, with plenty of charming beaches located here and on the neighbouring Ile St Honorat. Guests exploring this island chain, known as Les Lerins, can expect to see the legendary cell of the 'Man with the Iron Mask' or dine at an ancient monastery, where the monks make their own honey, wine and lavender oil.

Nice and the surrounding coastlines offer up some of the most blissful beaches in the region, all of which are backed by palm trees swaying in the mind. The beautiful city is brimming with examples of classic French architecture, with warm stone houses, elaborate fountains and plenty of bars and nightclubs.

Calanque de Saint Barthelemy

This beautiful, secluded beach can almost exclusively only be accessed by boat and superyachts who know about this secret hideaway can drop anchor off the coast and let their charter guests take a tender in. It’s an excellent site for a beach picnic, thanks to the wide expanse of beach lapped by crystalline water.

below deck mediterranean super yachts

The production of the show started with an all-American cast and filming locations, but the popularity of the show quickly branched out across the world, spawning variants like Below Deck: Mediterranean, Below Deck: Sailing Yacht or Below Deck: Down Under.

Despite the human factor and the drama, the show does represent some of the most splendid locations in the world, fit for chartering yachts and enjoying the beauty of sea, sun and sand. A location that has been repeated several times in 3 different variations of the show was Croatia and it is because of that reason, that we took our time and researched every location in Croatia that housed a Below Deck production team.

There were 3 times that the franchise filmed in this beautiful country; Below Deck in Croatia can be traced back to Below Deck: Mediteranean , which shot seasons 2 and 6 in Croatia, taking full advantage of the wonderful cruising locations, beaches, bays, capes and fishing villages.

This was also the time when Captain Sandy Yawn was behind the helm, remaining the only stable character throughout the series, with the crew being replaced every new season, but some of them returning in different roles and different seasons.

The third time, Below Deck: Sailing Yacht also filmed in Croatia, but with a new crew, captain and a totally different type of yacht. Sailing is more complicated, but also more rewarding to see and to experience, both for the guests and for the crew. Nevertheless, the series again took full advantage of all the natural beauties on offer in Croatia.

As mentioned, these are the three times that Below Deck produced their content in Croatia:

Below Deck: Mediterranean, season 2

In season 2 of Below Deck: Mediteranean, we follow a chartered yacht by the name of Sirrocco (meaning African Wind) on its tour of the Croatian Adriatic Sea, captained by Captain Sandy Yawn.

The season opens with Sirrocco being berthed in the coastal town of Split, the second biggest city in Croatia and the biggest travel port in Croatia . From here, the crew picks up the first group of charter guests, who call themselves.

Sirocco yacht charter underway

„The Tribe“. Sirrocco headed for Tatinja bay on the first charter day, where guests got to enjoy slow, but steady inebriation and a wide choice of Sirrocco`s water toys. On the second day, the guests visited Varska beach on Brač , and were amazed by the natural beauty of this environment.

Episodes 3 and 4 saw the arrival of „Mr. Skin“ and his „Naked News“, which filmed their naked news segments throughout Sirrocco`s interior and exterior.  While the guests were busy with their project, Sirrocco anchored near Milna, on the island of Hvar , ensuring the guests have a beautiful background while filming. Enjoying the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic, Mr. Skins’ charter party took full advantage of the rich offer of amenities and water toys aboard Sirrocco.

Episode 5 saw a very romantic intermezzo in between partying and drinking, in the form of a vow renewal ceremony between true lovers, near Stari Grad town on Hvar island. The historic architecture of Stari Grad and the medieval city walls greatly added to the intimate atmosphere of this special occasion episode.

A completely opposite charter party bordered Sirrocc in episode 6. Described as „Drinkers from Oklahoma“ , these guests started partying as soon as they boarded their chartered yacht. The course was plotted for Trogir, following a route towards a small town in the basin of the Krka waterfalls, a site of incredible natural beauty and the heart of Krka National Park.

The drinker`s journey ended en route to Sveta Fumija, an island near Trogir, across the island of Čiovo. A classic charter day was epitomized in episode 8, which saw a Bachelor`s party celebration aboard Sirrocco, followed by episode 9 and a crew day off at Klis fortress.

This quick sequence of episodes was followed by a very posh charter party, who demanded a cruise in the waters around Trogir. Sirrocco introduced these last guests to some of the most beautiful beaches and coves around the beautiful Croatian Adriatic Sea. Ending their charter in Trogir, the crew set a course towards Dubrovnik, where they had a day off before ending the season in a party finale.

Below Deck: Mediterranean, season 6

Season 6 saw Captain Sandy return to the Croatian Adriatic sea, this time behind the helm of the yacht Lady Michelle, with her home port set in Šibenik. Šibenik is a picturesque coastal town with much to offer to charter guests, like a dense archipelago in its vicinity, a National Park in its hinterlands and plenty of historic architecture or ancient ruins to discover , as well as beautiful beaches to explore. Episode 1 brought the viewership closer to the awesome Martinska bay, where charter guests had a full range of different water toys aboard Lady Michelle.

Lady Michelle yacht underway

The next episode centred around the site of Oštrica Bay, which was the main spot chosen throughout season 6, for its natural beauty, secludedness and crystal-clear sea. For the next couple of episodes of season 6, Lady Michelle cruised between locations that were not mentioned by name, but it was clear that only pristine beaches and quiet coves were chosen to elevate the charter experience of guests. But since the Šibenik archipelago is so densely packed with islands of all shapes and sizes, any chosen location would have its positive sides.

Episode 7 was filmed on the island of Zlarin, a truly unique island that offers and abundance of untouched natural beauty, as well as a rich history, tradition and excellent cuisine. With more than 2600 sunny hours in a year, Zlarin is indeed a sun lover’s paradise, where charter guests can work on their bronze tans on one of many beaches and bays around the island. But, Zlarin`s true hallmark lies with corals that grow around its shoreline, and which make for an excellent souvenir, with red Croatian coral making for stunning jewellery.

Episode 8 was filmed on the nearby islet of Prvić, a speck of land with barely 200 permanent inhabitants, which makes it a perfect place for an afternoon of fun with Lady Michelle`s water toys. Since it is very close to land, this island offers a perfect escape from the crowds of mainland tourists, and its main settlement of Šepurine provides an ideal getaway location, especially for charter guests. The next episode was centred around the crew organizing an Oktoberfest-themed day for the charter party. Several locations were swapped and the yacht did not stay anchored anywhere for a prolonged period, ending the charter at the Šibenik dock.

Episode 10 served as an intro to the area around the wonderful town of Trogir, since Mala Oštrica bay is not far from the historic city gates. Also known as the „Musem-City“, Trogir captures the imaginations of countless visitors each year with its medieval architecture, impressive palaces and stone-laid streets.

Trogir, Croatia

Not far from Trogir`s old town sits Mala Oštrica, a bay that provides ideal natural surroundings as well as close proximity to the town of Trogir. The next episode saw a similar setup, with an all-female charter party who decided to kick back on Lady Michelle`s sundeck and enjoy a couple of cocktails, before jumping in the refreshing Adriatic sea, in a bay that offers both unparalleled natural beauty and total privacy.

After serving guests for 12 episodes straight, the charter crew got a free day off, which they decided to spend visiting the Krka National Park , including the famous Krka Falls. This episode really brought the viewership of Below Deck: the Mediterranean close to the pristine natural condition of the freshwater falls and the Krka River, but also the rich variety of different natural environments.

The crew spent some time together, during which emotions and tensions ran high due to social inadequacies, but once the charter crew returned to their posts, they finished the season strong. Making sure that their last clients had the time of their lives near Borovik and Oštrica bays, both of which are picturesque locations with plenty to offer, Lady Michelle`s charter crew and captain organized one last party to say their farewells and plan their next projects.

Below Deck: Sailing yacht, season 2

Below Deck as a series returned for the third time to Croatia, but this time in an entirely different concept. Unlike Below Deck: Mediterranean, which used motorized charter yachts, Below Deck: Sailing Yacht centres around the experience of live sailing on the sailing yacht Parsifal III. With her home port being Marina Lav in Split , Parsifal III and her captain, Glenn Shepard, had some excellent weather conditions for sailing between the many lush islands in the Croatian Adriatic Sea.

Parsifal II yacht at anchor - Below Deck Croatia

Sailing from Marina Lav, episode 1 of Below Deck: Sailing yacht saw the captain and the crew of Parsifal III anchor in Stipanska cove, located on the western shores of Brač island. For charter guests in search of peace and privacy, there is nothing better than this secluded bay, filled with turquoise water and gentle pine forests, that provide shade from the warm summer sun.

After the first episode, charter guests had a chance to get close to another visually impressive bay named Livka, which offers an equally stunning atmosphere as its predecessor, sporting calm waters which are ideal for having fun on water toys.

Episode 3 was characterized by perfect sailing conditions, so the charter party had a chance to get thoroughly introduced to all the technical aspects of live sailing, as well as experience a steep keel of the yacht, which is always very exciting for first-time sailors.

Episodes 4 through 6 saw the same charter party sail through many different fantastic locations in the Croatian Adriatic Sea, starting with the formerly-visited Livka Bay. After optimal sailing conditions occurred, Parsifal III set a course towards Palmižana and Paklinski islands, which are favoured locations of yacht charter enthusiasts visiting the Croatian Adriatic sea.

Palmižana is a well-established Croatian summer hotspot, due to its nautical marina, and a plethora of different bays and coves, scattered around the extremely indented coastline of the Paklinski islands archipelago. This archipelago consists of 16 islands and islets and is a popular location for all kinds water sports or diving sessions. The wild rosemary that grows in abundance around these isles mixes with the recognizable aroma of Adriatic pine to form an intoxicating scent that permeates through the entirety of Pakleni islands.

This lengthy charter party finished their trip on Hvar island, having a chance to explore its historic Stari Grad old core, with incredible medieval architecture, city walls, churches and palaces. Episode 7 brought a closer look at another beautiful Adriatic location, that is the island of Čiovo and the Stipanska bay. One of the larger islands in the wider Trogir area, Čiovo is famous for being connected to the township of Trogir by a drawbridge. It offers a very convenient way of venturing further into the central Croatian Adriatic sea, since it is close to Trogir, Split and the Split airport.

There are many beaches and resorts on the islands, but also a few private coves and secluded bays, ideal for anchoring a yacht and enjoying all the possibilities of a warm summer in Croatia. These were used by the charter party aboard Parsifal III to play with water toys, but also enjoy the unlimited freedom of sailing, thanks to warm Croatian summer winds.

Episode 8 saw the return of the yacht to Stipanska Bay, where once again, unspoiled beaches offered an excellent opportunity for charter guests to get closer to the unspoiled Croatian seabed, filled with all kinds of aquatic creatures, making the guest`s holiday that much more exciting. Rewarding panoramas and pristine waters are just some of the reasons why many charter captains decide to often anchor in Stipanska Bay.

Episode 9 started with an afternoon near Maslinica, the only port settlement on the west side of Šolta island. Boasting a beautiful pine forest and a coastline littered with rocky beaches, Maslinica bay offers incredible opportunities for exploring the 7 nearby islets with water toys. Departing with favourable wind conditions, Parsifal III then set sail towards Trogir and lunch in a medieval fortress, which astounded charter guests with its authenticity and charm.

Throughout episodes 10 and 11, Parsifal III’s crew enjoyed a well-deserved day off, which actually began after the last charter ended in Split. Here, the crew experienced a rewarding dinner, only to head out to Nečujam on Šolta island the next day. Upon arrival, the crew spent the day lazying around the beach, enjoying the wellness facilities and getting slightly inebriated, only to enjoy the pristine nature and unique social situations.

Šolta island, beautiful bay

Nearing the end of the charter season in Croatia, Parsifal III took her guests on a tour of Stomorska village, on the island of Šolta. This location is favoured for its rustic charm, being a small fishing village with less than 300 permanent inhabitants. Time passes slower in this settlement, which has a positive effect on travellers seeking relaxation and peace.

Episode 14 had Parsifal III find anchorage in Stari Grad on Korčula island, a historic walled city, found on the eastern shore of the island. Being one of the best preserved medieval cities in the Croatian Adriatic, it earned the title of being placed on UNESCO`s World Heritage site, with its crown jewel being the gothic cathedral of St. Marc . Before the 16th and final episode, the crew enjoyed another day off, before escorting their latest charter party to Milna, a picturesque Dalmatian village, located on the northern shore of Brač island.

Explore Below Deck itineraries with SuperYachts Croatia

This article focused on the reasons why Below Deck chose Croatia as a destination to produce their series, instead of focusing on the human aspect or the drama. The main reason is, obviously, the natural beauty of the country, followed by favourable yachting conditions, good yacht support, the maritime culture of the host country. Though the series does heavily focus on interpersonal relationships between crew members, there are other glimpses of the attractiveness of Croatia as a yachting destination.

For instance, the food and the general culinary aspect – the crew are seen on several occasions dining in Croatian restaurants and enjoying the local seafood specialities, the excellent local meats like prosciutto, but also excellent olive oli and a super selection of premium wines.

The Croatian natives are also portrayed as warm and welcoming locals who want to create special experiences for their guests. By focusing solely on the reason why Below Deck visited Croatia not once, but three times, it is the firm belief of SuperYachts Croatia that this would have a positive and resounding impact, allowing more potential guests to charter their yachts in Croatia.

What followed was a list compiled by watching the abovementioned seasons and making notes of locations that the yacht and the crew visited during their stay in Croatia. More attention was given to the locations themselves, with the human factor being mentioned only if it serves the primary purposes. Also, the episodes in the season that seem „skipped“ are actually episodes in which the crew had a day off, or the yacht did not move due to bad weather or some other factor happened that prevented the crew from setting sails.

How to charter a Below Deck superyacht

Want to know how much it would cost to charter one of the luxury superyachts featured on US hit TV series Below Deck ? We take a look inside Below Deck ’s famous superyachts that you can charter for yourself, and find out what they have to offer charter guests on board.

Northern Sun

The star yacht of Below Deck Down Under season two, the 50.8-metre Northern Sun (originally delivered as Hokko Maru ) has lived a full and fascinating life. She was the largest yacht built by Narasaki Shipbuilding at the time and worked as an ice-class research vessel, analysing marine life and ocean currents in the North Japan Sea. As a result, she has the hardy constitution of an explorer, transformed from ship to superyacht under the stewardship of her new owners.

Northern Sun’s main deck is now dedicated entirely to entertainment, from the al fresco dining area to the main saloon with its piano and games table. Other leisure highlights include gym equipment, a dedicated library on the lower deck and an outdoor Jacuzzi, surrounded by sun pads and lounge beds. The owners’ addition of a forward seating area during her refit allows for versatile recreation, whether the mood calls for cocktail parties or quiet, waterside contemplation.

Accommodation is for up to 12 guests across six cabins, with rich, warm interiors that feature natural materials such as narra and makore wood (commonly known as cherry mahogany). The ex-explorer also – naturally – has impressive stowing capacity. She's able to carry two Laser sailboats, scuba-diving equipment, a waterski and a two-deck-high inflatable water slide, with the broker describing her as a "family-orientated" vessel.

Charter cost: Northern Sun is managed for charter by Ocean Independence with a weekly charter rate starting from $161,700.

60 metre Benetti motor yacht St David is the star of the tenth season of Below Deck, returning to the Caribbean with beloved Captain Lee. A finalist at the 2009 World Superyacht Awards , St David is a full-custom yacht with both interior and exterior design by British studio Winch Design .

She has made appearances at a number of high-profile events such as the Cannes Film Festival and has been spotted at various locations around the world including the Seychelles, Red Sea and Abu Dhabi. Accommodation is for 12 guests in six cabins, with a split-level master suite that lets in plenty of light.

A palatial theme characterises St David ’s social spaces, with features including a generous skylounge and a spiral staircase that leads through all three decks and is lit by a skylight in the spa pool of the sun deck. Elsewhere, St David has expansive water toy facilities and storage, including scuba dive gear, a new 7.2m tender, new Waverunners, and an electric foiling surfboard.

Charter cost: St David is managed by Morley Yachts with a weekly charter rate starting from €325,000.

The star of Below Deck Mediterranean season seven, 49.8 metre Home is the first “green” superyacht to appear on the show. Featuring a ground-breaking combination of a super-efficient Fast Displacement Hull Form by Van Oossanen Naval Architects with power provided by a hybrid propulsion system, Home boasts reduced emissions and fuel costs for the eco-conscious charter guest.

Defined by a distinctive vertical bow and large expanses of glass, Home was penned by Omega Architects and launched by Heesen in 2017. Her interiors, designed by Cristiano Gatto in a modern “Ibiza style”, can accommodate up to 12 guests in six cabins including a full-beam master cabin with a dedicated dressing room and a private office. There is also room for nine members of Below Deck crew on board, including Captain Sandy who has returned to the helm for the seventh season while Home is cruising the coasts of Malta .

The main socialising spot is up on the sundeck, complete with a Jacuzzi and sit-up bar, a shaded lounge and protection from the elements provided by glass screens. Closer to the water, a beach club with an air-conditioned gym is situated next to the swimming platform from which guests can launch the water toys including SeaBobs, Hoverboards, E-foils, Jet Skis and a Flyboard. Home also carries gear for scuba diving, waterskiing and wakesurfing for guests to make the most of their time on board.

Charter cost: Home is managed for charter by Burgess with a weekly charter rate starting from $245,000.

Sailing under her own name around the South Pacific islands of French Polynesia on Below Deck’s sixth series, the 56.4 metre My Seanna (now Starship ) was built by Delta Marine in 2000 and refitted in 2014. The Glade-Johnson designed superyacht reappeared again for season eight, where she was filmed cruising in Antigua. She is now starring in the latest season of the show, season nine, following her recent sale .

Key features include an open air Jacuzzi surrounded by an al fresco drinks bar, a gym, a sauna room, a helipad and a spacious beach club complete with a lounge, flatscreen TV and a small galley for preparing snacks or drinks. Her opulent interiors can accommodate up to 12 guests and 11 crew and even offer a home cinema and piano for entertaining in the main saloon. There are multiple toys carried on board as well, including gear for diving and spearfishing, Seabobs and equipment for underwater filming.

“The thing that I really love about My Seanna is the spacious cabins” says Worth Avenue retail charter broker, Shannon McCoy, who has appeared on episodes of Below Deck . She describes My Seanna as a “well-appointed yacht with a good collection of toys for the guests to enjoy,” offering an excellent layout with a variety of spaces that allows charterers “to have breakfast in a different place every morning or enjoy dinner whether it's outside under the sun or in the formal dining area.”

Charter cost: Starship is managed for charter by Worldwide Boat with a weekly charter rate starting from $275,000.

Lady Michelle

Sailing under her real name, Lady Michelle was the star of the sixth series of Below Deck Mediterranean , which was the latest series from the Med spin off. The 54.8 metre Benetti superyacht is the second biggest yacht ever to feature on the show, following just behind the 56.2 metre motor yacht The Wellington from season five. During season six Lady Michelle hosted charter guests in Ibenik, Croatia with Captain Sandy behind the helm.

First delivered in 2003, Lady Michelle features accommodation for up to 14 guests including a split-level master suite with its own panoramic observation lounge. Her Stefano Natucci interiors offer indoor and al fresco dining spaces, an expansive sundeck with a hot tub and dedicated gym. There’s also a range of toys at the guests’ disposal, from Jet Skis and Seabobs to fishing gear and a waterslide.

Charter cost: Lady Michelle is managed by Burgess with a weekly charter rate starting from $325,000.

The Wellington

Actually named The Wellesley , this 56.2 metre Oceanco superyacht is owned by property magnate and hotelier Khalid Affara and named after his luxury art deco hotel in London. Delivered in 1993, The Wellesley features extended deck spaces and Donald Starkey -penned interiors that replicate the grandeur of the eponymous Knightsbridge hotel. Highlights on board include a waterfall jacuzzi, an outdoor cinema for movies under the stars and a unique private club-style lounge complete with a Winston Churchill inspired cigar room.

Describing why she makes an excellent charter yacht, James Graham-Cloete, director of charter management from TWW Yachts , says that The Wellesley is “ideal for entertaining family and friends, or hosting corporate events in utter privacy,” thanks to the fact that she “boasts some of the largest open deck spaces of any 56 metre on the water.” Graham-Cloete also adds that, on The Wellesley , “guests are invited to experience the same exceptional personal service, fine dining and attention to detail that has become synonymous with the hotel, on board a private superyacht,” while being looking after by her 14 crew members. “The crew have one of the lowest turnover rates in the industry and one of the best charter records, along with a full-time masseuse on board- making her the ultimate charter yacht!” says Graham-Cloete.

Charter cost: The Wellesley is managed by TWW Yachts with a weekly charter rate starting from €230,000.

Talisman Maiton

Built in 2006 by Turquoise Yachts , with a refit in 2012, the 54.2 metre Talisman Maiton sailed the coasts of Italy in the third series of Below Deck Mediterranean and was also captained by Sandy Yawn. Key features include a generous open plan sun deck with a forward-facing Jacuzzi and bar, al fresco dining spaces and a gym. Inside, she features six individually styled cabins for her 12 guests – including a master suite with its own private office – complemented by a sumptuous interior inspired by a combination of Asian and Art Deco influences. Her toy box is filled with snorkelling and fishing gear, Jet Skis and more for guests to enjoy while on board.

Charter cost: Talisman Maiton is managed by Burgess with a weekly charter rate starting from €273,000.

The 47 metre Heesen -built superyacht Sirocco took centre stage in both the second and fourth series of Below Deck Mediterranean and introduced captain Sandy Yawn, who has become a returning cast member on the show. Launched in 2006 with a refit in 2013, Sirocco features a dark blue hull and was designed inside and out by Omega Architects . She accommodates up to 12 guests and nine crew and offers charterers an eight person Jacuzzi, a gym, plenty of al fresco entertainment areas and a well-stocked toy box comprising Jet Skis, a waterslide and gear for wakeboarding or waterskiing. Worth Avenue retail charter broker Shannon McCoy describes Sirocco as a “very, very popular charter yacht” and with her fleet of water toys and pedigree Heesen design, provides “an excellent platform for a great time at sea.”

Charter cost: Sirocco is managed for charter by Worth Avenue with a weekly charter rate starting from €195,000.

Ionian Princess

Appropriately named for the first season of Below Deck Mediterranean , which was set in Greece, the 45.7 metre Christensen -built yacht was captained by Mark Howard during filming. Launched in 2005 and last refitted in 2016, Ionian Princess features a luxurious Greek-style inspired interior finished with high-gloss sapelle mahogany joinery and custom in-laid stonework throughout. Ionian Princess can host up to 12 guests in six cabins, including two master cabins, and also boasts plentiful dining options and a sundeck equipped with a hot tub and sunpads. She also comes with a fleet of water toys from waterskiing and wakeboarding kit to Jet Skis and kayaks. Thanks to her shallow draft, she can also access hard-to-reach hidden gems in the Mediterranean Sea that other larger yachts aren’t able to. “ Ionian Princess is ideally suited for cruising the Mediterranean, which is the most sought-after region for summer yacht charters,” says her management team at charter brokers Northrop & Johnson.

Charter cost: Ionian Princess is managed by Northrop & Johnson with a weekly charter rate starting from $175,000.

Parsifal III

Parsifal III has been the star of the sailing yacht spin off of Below Deck , captained by Glenn Shephard during filming. The 54 metre Perini Navi was launched in 2005 and was designed by Rémi Tessier . She was most recently refitted in 2020, and offers accommodation for a total of 12 guests and nine crew. Her design has seen her scoop a number of World Superyacht Awards and provides her with excellent performance capabilities at sea; when the weather is on your side, Parsifal III can hit speeds of up to 18 knots under sail. While at anchor, there is still plenty to keep guests entertained with a variety of al fresco and indoor dining spaces, a flybridge hot tub, gym equipment, a swimming platform and a fully-stocked toybox.

Charter cost: Parsifal III is managed for charter by Camper & Nicholsons with a weekly charter rate starting from €195,000.

Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 has been full of allegations of producer involvement, especially surrounding poor performance, but Carrie O’Neill may be a producer plant for an entirely different reason . Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 has been long and difficult for its crew members, as Mustique has been a tough superyacht to keep going. While the crew members have been dealing with issues of their own throughout the charter season, the superyacht itself has been struggling to literally stay afloat. With a major leak that caused the interior team to be down a Stew all season, things have been tough.

In the last stretch of charters, Captain Sandy Yawn and Chief Stew Aesha Scott have been working hard to ensure that the interior team is able to work to their full capacity. While Aesha has been dealing with difficulties from her Stews, Ellie Dubaich and Bri Muller, throughout the charter season, it’s gotten worse with time. What started as interpersonal issues between the Stews have turned into professional problems, which Aesha couldn’t stand idly by and watch grow. Instead, Captain Sandy had the leaky cabin fixed and brought Carrie in for the final charters , but her presence may signal production interference.

Carrie Immediately Has A Budding Romance With Joe Bradley

Her time aboard mustique turned steamy.

Although Carrie came into Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 as a floating Stew who would be able to help the rest of the interior team with the workload, her downtime has been spent in a precarious position. Though Joe Bradley, the Lead Deckhand, has been dabbling in boatmances with both Ellie and Bri all season, Carrie caught his eye quickly . While things haven’t been smooth with Ellie or Bri, Joe seemed to feel that he was able to start fresh and get flirty with Carrie. While she wasn’t immediately interested, Carrie could be flirting with the idea of a boatmance.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

Ellie and Bri’s drama throughout the season has stemmed from the fact that both of them are romantically interested in Joe, and while he’s been playing both of the women consistently, his ideal scenario would be to hook up with Carrie. Making it clear that there are no strings attached, Joe seems to be interested in the new Stew, and she doesn’t know the amount of drama Joe’s caused in the weeks leading up to her arrival. Carrie could be entering into a boatmance that could cause her to have major issues with her fellow Stews in the final charters.

Carrie Was Likely Added At The End Of The Season To Stir The Pot

Things between ellie and bri were wholeheartedly stagnant.

Although Carrie’s potential boatmance with Joe may not be enough to prove that she’s a potential producer plant, the timing of her entrance into the crew may push the allegations over the edge . While it was mentioned that Mustique didn’t have enough cabin space to fit another Stew on board, the quickness with which the engineering team was able to fix the lead in the cabin was suspicious, leading many to wonder why it took so long for them to do it. Carrie joined Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 for the last charters of the season, which makes little sense.

While Carrie’s timing in joining the Below Deck crew may have been coincidental, it seems far too late in the season to bring on another Stew when things hadn’t been entirely catastrophic for the pre-existing crew. Though Carrie’s time aboard Mustique was short , it feels odd to have brought her in to take on a few charters when there are competent Stews available already. Instead, Carrie may have been brought to Below Deck Mediterranean to stir the pot and create drama through her potential boatmance and her high level of skill, rattling her fellow Stews in several different ways.

Below Deck Mediterranean airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.

Below Deck EP admits sometimes casting misses are made: 'Some people freak out'

Executive producer Nadine Rajabi recently spoke to Melissa Rivers about "the problem" with "what is happening in all of reality now."

Below Deck is one of the splashiest, most drama-filled franchises in the Bravo -verse. But even there a dud or two sometimes makes it through the casting process.

"That has happened so many times," said Nadine Rajabi, an executive producer of the mothership series Below Deck as well as spinoff series Below Deck Mediterranean and Below Deck Down Under . Speaking with Melissa Rivers on her Group Text podcast, Rajabi detailed meeting potential cast members who were "so funny" and had ideal "work hard, play hard" personalities during interviews, only for them to "get on the boat" and "just freeze because of the cameras."

Rajabi continued, "Some people freak out because they're like, 'Oh my gosh, what did I sign up for? How is this going to affect my life?' And some people are just, I mean, they're just silent. And I'm like, 'What happened? You were so funny and outgoing.'"

Fred Jagueneau/Bravo

Adding that at the end of the day, "There's absolutely nothing you could do," because unlike other reality series, Below Deck operates as a workplace within a workplace, which means "you cannot fire them," because once they're cast, "then they're in the care of the captain."

The Below Deck franchise is one of Bravo's most expansive reality series, with four spinoffs including Mediterranean, Down Under, Sailing Yacht, and Adventure counting a combined 27 seasons reaching nearly 500 episodes. Rajabi is the showrunner on Mediterranean , the most successful of all the Below Deck spinoffs, so has played a critical role in casting many of the show's breakout stars, like chef Ben Robinson and Captain Sandy Yawn .

"You meet somebody like two times on a Skype, maybe three times on a Skype at most, maybe one time some of the people. Some people do so well we just do one Skype with them and that's it. Some people we talk to a couple of times because you want to make sure," she said. "I always say to them, be yourself, because if you try to be something that you're not, the camera is going to sniff it from a mile away. The camera never lies." But Rajabi's sage advice, she says, is too often ignored.

The unavoidability of new cast members falling flat once the cameras start rolling is only one fire Below Deck producers are frequently called upon to put out. The franchise has also weathered its share of cast member firings for inappropriate behavior, accusations of sexual misconduct among the cast and crew, and even theft on the part of guests.

Rajabi says that while Bravo has "a whole department that does all the checks," you can't always "know when they're lying on their CVs." She continues that "that's when you run into these seasons that kind of become toxic - if somebody's trying to be something that they're not, or trying to start something. It's just like, 'Why are they doing this?'" Sign up for  Entertainment Weekly's  free daily newsletter  to get breaking TV news, exclusive first looks, recaps, reviews, interviews with your favorite stars, and more.

Bravo has entered an unprecedented new era of scandal and legal embattlement, with multiple lawsuits from former Housewives cast members like Brandi Glanville and Leah McSweeney, which include specific allegations against the executive producer of the franchise and face of the network, Andy Cohen .

Below Deck hasn't seen the same kind of network-property in-fighting, but Rajabi does see issues creeping into the reality television format at large. "I think it's lost its innocence," she says of the franchise. "Back then," at the show's inception in 2013, "it was truly yachties just doing a YOLO thing. Maybe they did another season, and then they go back to their boats."

But now, "they want to come be reality stars. And I think that's the problem of what is happening in all of reality right now."

Below Deck Mediterranean Recap: Goldilocks Joe

Below deck mediterranean.

below deck mediterranean super yachts

Was anyone else shocked to realize there’s only one charter (and two more episodes) left in this season? This week was more of the same squabbles, so I don’t have much hope for anything exciting to come. Sandy’s proposal to her girlfriend Leah has been brought up so many times it feels like the big prom at the end of a high school movie. Hopefully, Sandy gets a nice private moment, and it doesn’t become an all-crew event milked for the last drops of drama at the end of a dry season.

But we’re not at a finale yet. This episode starts with Aesha sitting down for a meal for the first time all season, thanks to Carrie’s capability to cover the bar. The new stew also quickly steams the guests’ clothes for dinner; I’m so impressed by someone merely doing their job well and fast that it puts into perspective how low the bar has been for Ellie and Bri. Ellie remains on her power trip as she instructs Carrie and Bri on where to put up birthday decorations. She’s coming off as the person in a group project who appoints themself the leader so they can tell everyone else what to do and not have to do as much work themselves.

Hard at work in an attempt to redeem himself is Jono, whose stuffed tomatoes look great. The guests love them and the lamb entree. Compared to other chefs in the franchise, Jono still ranks at the bottom in cooking skills consistency, but it’s worth noting that he ranks high in getting along with the interior so well and having food ready on time. I wouldn’t go to his restaurant, but I’d happily go to a restaurant with him.

Who would I not go to a restaurant with? Joe. Gael tries to clear the air between them, and he apologizes, agreeing not to call her a princess again. Joe then tells Nathan that he thinks Gael hates him and asks his buddy to sort it out. Nathan’s never had a friend and girlfriend who didn’t like each other, so he’s not sure what to do. Joe has made similar comments about Bri and Ellie hating him, never seeming bothered by it. I’m sick of him not digging even a millimeter into why his female coworkers might dislike him. He’s too busy repeating the pattern with Carrie: he teases her by closing the laundry room door and running away while she’s working inside. The man has the flirting maturity of a ding-dong ditch.

After dinner, Aesha puts Carrie on drinks while Ellie cleans the table. Ellie asks Carrie for help, but Aesha overrides her. When Carrie returns to get more drinks, Ellie asks if she’d mind doing dishes so Ellie can do service instead. Why do you care, Ellie?! These married Ohioans aren’t going to be your sugar daddy. Ellie delusionally thought she was carrying the team and thinks Carrie is now taking the spotlight from her. The next day, that spotlight is serving lunch. She should be grateful to get a break. Maybe she doesn’t want to stop working because that would mean too much free time for self-reflection. Carrie tells Aesha how Ellie likes to do everything by herself and insists she doesn’t want to cause any issues, but their tone is gossipy, so I don’t fully buy that. Please cause issues, Carrie!

The guests requested watersports games and a relay race, for which the deck team picked up more inflatables. Joe comes up with an obstacle course/swimming relay with the guests, something that was definitely Iain’s job to prepare ahead of time. We’ve seen so little of Iain lately he’s practically a non-cast member engineer. I almost respect the guy for collecting his paycheck and giving us absolutely nothing.

The Mustique returns to the port for the night because of high winds. I support this decision because I now know what a waterspout is and am terrified of it. Docking in the dark goes smoothly while the guests eat dinner. They do synchronized service, well, semi-synchronized because they place down half the plates at once, then the next half. Call me when you can put down all eight plates at once. Aesha’s happy, though; she feels like things are finally up to her high standards now that they have a fourth stew. The color beads system to identify crew laundry seems to be working for Bri, who explains that she used color in her notes for studying at school too. Overall, it’s a successful charter.  They receive a $20,000 tip, and perhaps more importantly, Sandy has only positive feedback for the crew.

A major negative in my book is that Ellie gets sucked back into Joe’s orbit. Apparently, she’s forgotten about all those NFL players in her DMs. As she and Carrie clean the cabins, she fills the newbie in on Joe’s past make-outs and how he led them on. However, Ellie says it’s hard to be mad at him because he’s a sweetie, and she does care about him. I think the caring about him line is her trying to tell Carrie she’s still interested, but she’s too opaque. (Kind of like her self-tanner, which accidentally gets on Carrie’s clothes when they bump into each other getting ready for a night out.) Carrie may be easygoing because she knows their time together will be short, but the two are like a pair of betta fish in the same tank. Carrie knows not to fight directly with Ellie and reports her behavior to Aesha instead. She tells the chief stew about Ellie telling her to do less work, and Aesha says she’ll tell Ellie only to give Carrie assignments when Aesha is on break. Sadly, we don’t get to see this yet, but I look forward to Ellie’s reaction.

After dinner, Jono and Iain go back to the boat while everyone else dances. The lack of a unified dress code is hilarious. Bri’s t-shirt and jeans are fully casual, while Ellie’s bedazzled dress is dressy cocktail circus attire. It’s not loud enough to draw Joe’s attention. She tries to rekindle things by reminding him that this club is where they made out, but he’s focused on Carrie. Joe talks about her like he’s Goldilocks: he says Ellie was too stuck up, Bri was too sensitive, and Carrie seems just right. His sweater is too hot, and I guess going shirtless would be too cold, so he buys a shirt from a random man. I have a lot of questions about this, but the relevant plot point is that he doesn’t return to Ellie, who he was dancing with, and beelines to Carrie. In an interview, an insulted Ellie says, “No man in his right mind would turn down an incredible night with me.” I let out an involuntary groan. Bri tries to give Ellie a pep talk outside, but Ellie’s ready to be done with the season and go home. Carrie tells Joe she’s heard about him hooking up with the other girls, and he writes them off as drunken kisses.

Joe continues to make drunken decisions in the car back to the yacht. He books a flight to Ireland to visit Nathan because it’s only 16 quid. Is this Ryanair product placement? Gael’s hurt because Nathan didn’t check with her about their post-season travel plans. Joe beat her to booking flights so she feels like she can’t expect anything from Nathan anymore. This brings up feelings about how her ex didn’t prioritize her. That breakup is still fresh, too, and Aesha consoles her as she cries. Ellie tells Joe to fuck off as he walks by her and Bri in the crew mess with Carrie. Either unaware of the turmoil they’re causing or deliberately ignoring it, Joe and Nathan happily hang off their top bunk with Carrie. It’s giving Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed . They may not fall off and hit their heads, but there will be consequences.

Below Deck Med 9’s crew steer into a storm of insecurity and delusion

A person lying in a bunk talks to someone standing below

comment icon one comment

Just one charter—and one marriage proposal—remain on Below Deck Mediterranean season nine after episode 14, which churned through the same waters as the previous 13 episodes, with some steps forward and many steps back.

Iain actually docked the boat in the dark, which is remarkable considering that in broad daylight, he cannot see things that are directly in front of him. Maybe he has night vision?

A person with a beard makes a goofy expression

Jono managed to not kill anyone with his food, though he did also serve guests filet mignon and asparagus with Kool-Aid powder, sprinkling it on by using a guest’s preference sheet as a guide. GROSS. (By the way TikTok keeps showing me videos guests filmed onboard , like Jono introducing a dish, and it’s weird seeing scenes from that perspective.)

Although Jono must now know he cannot be fired, he told us, “I’m going to be a phoenix rising from the ashes,” and the editors put his head on a phoenix’s body. Setting everything on fire and turning it into ash is a pretty good metaphor for Jono’s architecture cuisine.

In the galley, Aesha tried something Jono made, and instantly her mouth erupted in a waterfall of drool, which I assume was her body trying to protect her.

Aesha may be stuck with a chef who doesn’t know that cookies are not a high-end dessert and carpaccio is not to be served in chunks, but she does have a gift: Carrie.

Yes, there’s finally another competent team member in fourth stew Carrie. “Do you know how much pressure is alleviated having a super-experienced stew?” Aesha asked Nathan, who pointed out that was the first time he’s seen her eating.

Of course, this has caused Ellie to melt down, because 🎵 I AM SECOND STEW / GOING ON FIRST STEW / I WILL TAKE CARE OF BOAT. 🎵 (Sorry.)

Anyway, this took the form of Ellie micromanaging Carrie (no one tell Ellie that she complains about being micromanaged all the time) with everything from hanging shitty paper birthday decorations to putting on pillowcases.

While Carrie was in the middle of swiftly and efficiently pouring guest drinks, Ellie said, “Do you mind if you would do dishes and I do the service?” That was after asking Carrie to clear the table while Carrie was serving guests, which Aesha overheard and was like, no, try again.

Ellie was fuming, with versions of: I AM SECOND STEW! YOU ARE NO STEW! YOU ARE JONO STEW, THAT IS HOW MUCH YOU ARE NOT STEW!

Ellie’s delusion dialed up so high I don’t think Captain Sandy’s wind gauges could measure it. “I was under the impression that we just needed somebody to do the odd jobs,” she told us, wondering, “damn, have I been the weak link”—a question that surprised her because she’s convinced she’s been “carrying the team the whole season.”

In Ellie’s defense, when the entire team is just Bri, sure, you’re carrying it. But to anyone watching, Aesha has been doing all the work while making sure her stews don’t set the boat and/or each other on fire.

Also in Ellie’s defense, it’s kinda obvious that her insecurity is dialed up with Joe lurking around and trying to get into Carrie’s laundry. Meanwhile, Carrie took some guests’ laundry to steam and then—steamed it, and gave it back. Wild.

Two people standing in front of an ironing board in a laundry room

By the way, Bri got her new color bead system, and told us, “I used colors in my study notes.” She now has a chart matching colors to names. Will that still solve the problem of losing her own dress and not being able to put things in the right cabins?

One thing I noticed on her list is that someone is missing:

A handwritten list: Gael: Yellow, Joe: maroon,

Yep, Captain Sandy’s not there. Is Bri just not allowed to touch her clothes any more, or Captain Sandy not have any clothes because Bri ruined them all?

Back to Joe, who literally closed the door to the laundry room while Carrie was inside and ran away like a four-year-old. “I did learn something. I really did,” he told us of all his fucking around with Ellie and Bri. “But I do tend to fall into old habits,” which apparently means falling into any woman who appears and then being a colossal asshole to her.

Joe repeatedly flirted with Carrie, saying things like “I’ll even clean your countertop” and trying to sniff Carrie’s armpits in the van. “I wasn’t inviting you in for a waft,” she told him, successfully batting him away.

Ellie told us that Joe “just keeps sucking me back in,” and does so with incredible wit and charm such as telling Ellie, “I’m going to fork your bun.”

But one woman on the boat will not take Joe’s shit, and I am here for it.

Two people sit on a dock and talk

Joe came down to the swim platform to micromanage Gael again, asking her if she’d done an obvious thing that she’d already done, and also try to clear the air. Great strategy: be a dick and then try to figure out why someone’s mad at you.

Gael told Joe, “I realize I’m trying to make a guy happy who’s just going to be an ass to me.”

Joe replied, “How am I being an ass?” Like with that kind of gaslighting, you bag of fetid meat. Just in case anyone forgot, the editors included a montage of him being an ass to Gael.

Look, is Joe as grossly misogynist and vile as some deckhands we’ve had on Below Deck ? Not at all. But he doesn’t get graded on a curve just because some people before him were dirtbags.

“You’re going to be a prick to me, I’m just not going to give you the time of day,” Gael said. I hope she could hear the applause from all of us standing up in front of our TVs.

Joe’s defense was, of course, gross. “Have I ever raised my voice?” he asked, as if that’s required for being a shitty boss. Then he gave the non-apology apology: “I’m sorry if I ever made you feel like that.” Fuck right off, dude.

That’s what he did, going back to his cabin to bond with Nathan about how Gael was mean to him.

Later, when the guests wanted to have a crew vs. guest relay race on the water, Joe asked Iain if he could take charge. “Being lead deckhand, I have this wave of confidence that I can run the deck,” Joe told us, and took control of blow-up toys.

Where is this confidence coming from? I mean, other than Iain and Captain Sandy refusing to tell Joe that he’s a bad lead deckhand and promote Nathan or Gael into the job instead.

Speaking of insecure people, Ellie started saying the quiet part out loud: “Carrie [is] taking the spotlight from me,” she said. “I’m just tossed to the sideline.” She said “it’s very insensitive towards me.”

Ellie has a bit of main character syndrome, but Carrie knew enough to not take the bait, just rolling with Ellie’s dumb asks. But she finally had enough and told Aesha, who summarized this perfectly: “Ellie is making things less efficient so she can maintain her status. Or her ego.”

That is the theme of this season!

As an evening out approached, Ellie swirled down the drain of insecurity and into a pool of delusion. “He’s not even choosing based on whom he’s attracted to. He just chooses the person who gives him the most attention,” she said, and that was a pretty cogent analysis that she then ruined: “no man in his right mind would turn down an incredible night with me. It’s like, come on!”

A topless Ellie covered herself in fake tanner in their tiny cabin, and oops, spilled some all over Carrie’s shirt and pants. At least Bri will now know which things are Carrie’s.

But that wasn’t the evening’s most passive-aggressive act. In the van back to the boat, Joe booked a flight to Dublin to visit Nathan. Gael and Nathan had been planning to travel after the season ended, and Aesha turned to Gael and said, “When are you going on your trip?”

This is the most drama I’ve ever seen Aesha create, and though it was a fair question, contrasted with Nathan and Joe in the back seat, arms wrapped around each other, smiling, it seemed Nathan really had forgotten about their plans.

Gael said “these plans are easy to be scribbled over,” and broke down to Aesha, “I can’t expect anything from anyone. That’s it.” Should we be expecting things from people we met on Below Deck five weeks ago?

“I’m just going to be treated like shit again,” Gael told us, which was heartbreaking, especially when contrasted with footage of Nathan and Joe screwing around in their cabin.

Gotta love all this romance setting the stage for Captain Sandy’s big proposal. 😬

Joe seems almost as bad as Gary. So glad to see Aesha having an actual break! I love her.

Elle is truly horrific. What a loser. She TRULY does think everyone is thinking about her 24/7. “no man in his right mind would turn down an incredible night with me. OMFG! When she said that I really couldn’t believe it. Of course, this has caused Ellie to melt down, because 🎵 I AM SECOND STEW / GOING ON FIRST STEW / I WILL TAKE CARE OF BOAT. 🎵 (Sorry.) Hahaha! Not sorry! Carrie IS stealing the spotlight from you! Because she is nice and agreeable and doesn’t buy into your shit. I love that she doesn’t take the bait from Ellie….Just goes along! Because if she did…Ellie would be moaning about being disrespected! No, Carrie is just a hell of a lot smarter than you Ellie.

Love that Gael didn’t back down or go nice to Joe. I love her too. Poor Gael! Don’t you worry Gael, you will find someone as awesome as yourself.
