Newport Ocean Sailing Association is a non-profit organization run by a board of directors filled with highly experienced sailboat racers and U.S. Sailing Certified Race Officials who, along with a large group of volunteers, are the premier race management team who host the iconic Newport to Ensenada International Yacht Race and others all-the-while promoting yacht racing in Southern California. NOSA provides financial assistance to junior sailing programs and other non-profit organizations that encourage and develop amateur watersports with an emphasis on sailing, boating and seamanship.

The countdown is officially on! In just 100 days, the starting cannon will signal the beginning of the 79th edition of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. On December 26th, the world’s top sailors will once again converge in Sydney Harbour, ready to embark on one of the most iconic and challenging ocean races.
With a reputation for challenging weather and the notorious conditions of the Bass Strait, the race is a true test of skill, endurance, and teamwork. Yachts of all sizes and crews from around the globe will push their limits over the 628-nautical-mile course, heading south to Tasmania’s historic capital.
This year’s race is expected to draw fierce competition, with some of the world’s fastest and most advanced yachts entering the lineup. Whether racing for Line Honours or the prestigious Tattersall Cup, crews will have to be prepared for anything as they navigate the elements in the “Great Race South.”
As we hit the 100-day mark, excitement is building, and the anticipation for this legendary event is palpable. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the start of the 79th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race!

American Magic races back from 0-4 deficit to keep America's Cup hopes alive
After starting a first-to-five racing series at a 0-4 deficit, the New York Yacht Club American Magic sailing team has won three straight races and rekindled hopes that the team could settle into its new Pensacola headquarters as reigning America's Cup champions.
American Magic – a foiling sailboat racing team set to make the Port of Pensacola its new home base – is facing the Italian racing team Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli in the Louis Vuitton Cup Semi-Final on Thursday, a head-to-head racing series that began Saturday in Barcelona, Spain. The winner of the series will advance to the Louis Vuitton Cup Finals and face-off against the British racing team INEOS Britannia, which clinched its spot in the finals Wednesday with a win over Swiss team Alinghi Red Bull Racing.
The winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup will race against Emirates Team New Zealand beginning on Oct. 17 and the first team to win seven races will win the 37th America’s Cup.
But before American Magic can look ahead to New Zealand or even Britannia, the team − now down 3-4 against Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli – must win back-to-back races Thursday or be eliminated.
After losing four straight races, American Magic got its first win on the third day of racing Monday and followed up with two more wins on Wednesday. The first race Wednesday was hotly contested, but American Magic cruised to victory in the second race after the Italian team suffered a gear failure that ended their race day, according to the America's Cup website .
“Obviously, it's never the way you want to win, but by the same token, we were out there giving out our best as well – so you don't want to discredit the work of our team. Our thoughts are with Luna Rossa – it sucks to lose a race like that – but look, they have still got the lead, and they can come out tomorrow and finish it off – or we can get out there and win,” Tom Slingsby, a veteran helmsman for American Magic, told Magnus Wheatley, event writer and joint recon comms lead for the 37th America’s Cup.
The final races in the series are scheduled for Thursday and will decide which team will advance to the Louis Vuitton Cup Finals, a first-to-seven series running Sept. 26 through Oct. 7.
The teams race in “AC 75” foiling sailboats that appear to “fly” over the water at speeds up to 55 mph and averaging around 45 mph for most of the race in winds as light as 7 mph. The ability to achieve such speed relies on cutting-edge design and technology.
American Magic plans to return to a new headquarters at the Port of Pensacola when the competition is over and bring that technology to build its next racing yacht in Pensacola.
The team has “Pensacola, Florida” in large letters on its mainsail that are featured in nearly every photo the of team’s AC 75 yacht named Patriot. The sponsorship is thanks to a $1.5 million spend from the Escambia County Tourist Development Council.

Meanwhile, the city is managing the construction of a $15 million new Maritime Center of Excellence that will host the team upon its return. The construction is being funded through a series of state grants, including $8.5 million from Triumph Gulf Coast.
As part of its lease agreement that includes rent and $32 million in capital investment, the team has pledged to use “its best efforts” to host at least two international sailing events each year in Pensacola. The task of hosting those events becomes much easier if the team wins the America’s Cup and will be able to set the rules and locations for the 38th America’s Cup.
While it’s unlikely Pensacola would be able to host the actual main event, a preliminary regatta is very much a possibility if the team wins.
