BOAT RENTAL FAQ’S 

Security deposit & insurance, is a deposit required for reservations.

No deposit is required however rentals must be paid in full when reserved. At arrival we will preauthorize card on file for $300, upon return of a undamaged vessel we will release the preauthorization.

HOW CAN I SECURE MY RESERVATION?

Reservations must be secured through our online booking platform using a credit or debit card.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY BOAT GETS DAMAGED?

Renters are responsible for any damage to the vessel while in their possession and control. 

RESTRICTIONS

What are the age and licensing requirements for vessel operators.

Operators must be 21 years or older and possess a valid driver’s license during boat pickup and rental reservations. 

ARE THERE SAFETY REGULATIONS FOR CHILDREN ON BOARD?

Yes, children under 12 years of age must wear a life preserver at all times while on the vessel.

ARE PETS ALLOWED ON THE RENTAL BOATS?

Pets are allowed on the rental boats, provided they are leashed to/from the boat and on the resort property. There is an additional daily pet fee. Please contact the Boat Rentals Office for details at (270) 362-0121.

Welcome! Kentucky Lake vacations are about fun, family, friends and memories. It’s about catching a giant bass or crappie or skiing alongside 2,300 miles of shoreline. Kentucky Dam creates the largest manmade lake in the eastern United States - Kentucky Lake! The dam backs up the Tennessee River for 184 miles and creates the lake that stretches south across the western tip of Kentucky and nearly the entire height of Tennessee. At maximum normal operating level, Kentucky Lake covers 160,300 acres and features 2,300 miles of shoreline.

When you're here you'll feel like a kid again. The memories of your youth will come rushing back to you while you enjoy your time on Kentucky Lake. Race go-karts, play miniature golf, take a bike ride, visit the animals at the nature station, watch a Kentucky Constellation presentation inside the planetarium, go horseback riding, take a swim, hop one of our rental boats, camp out, hunt, fish, sho, bird watch, see a drive-in movie, golf, see a live country music show, go to a dinner theatre, or see live blues or bluegrass music.Whatever you decide, make sure the kid inside you gets to choose!

Kentucky Lake was formed by the completion of Kentucky Dam, the longest dam at 8,422 feet on the Tennessee River in the Tennessee Valley Authority system. Land Between the Lakes, one of Kentucky’s most visited attractions, is bordered on the west by 184-mile Kentucky Lake and on the east by 118-mile Lake Barkley. More important than the project's size are the jobs it performs. Kentucky Dam is the spigot that TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) uses to help control floods on the lower Ohio and Mississippi rivers; it is the gateway to the Tennessee River waterway.

About Kentucky Lake

Did you know Kentucky Lake is the nation's largest body of water between the Great Lakes and Gulf of Mexico? At 184 miles in length and spanning two states, Kentucky Lake is a recreational haven for fishermen, boaters and outdoor enthusiasts. Step back in time at the Homeplace 1850s Living History Farm and watch interpreters demonstrate pre-Civil War farm life. About Lake Barkley

To the east of Kentucky Lake and Land Between The Lakes you'll find Lake Barkley. While smaller than it's sister lake, it's an ideal place for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts to experience. With less boat traffic, Lake Barkley can be a great place for recreational boaters, especially in the summer months during higher pool levels. Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake are connected by a free-flowing canal near the dams at Grand Rivers, Kentucky. When visiting Lake Barkley, folks can check out the quaint towns of Grand Rivers, Kuttawa, Eddyville, Cadiz and Dover for shops, restaurants and lodging opportunities.

Did you know tens of thousands of acres of water surround three sides of Land Between The Lakes?  Kentucky Lake borders LBL to the west with Lake Barkley to the north and east.  A free-flowing canal connects the two bodies of water at the northern entrance of LBL.

Renters must be at least 21 years old on the day of their rental.

As a Tennessee State Resident, do I need a boating license to rent a boat?

Tennessee State Residents born after January 1, 1989:

Must show the TWRA-issued wallet Boating Safety Education Certificate as proof of successful completion of the TWRA Boating Safety exam.

No other certificate will be accepted as meeting the requirements of the law. The Tennessee mandatory boating education law is similar to the driver’s license law. You acquire the study materials, study, and then take an approved boating safety exam administered by an approved representative of the TWRA.

Tennessee State Residents born before January 1, 1989:

You are exempt from the requirement to have a boating license to operate a boat in Tennessee.

However, we encourage anyone planning to rent and drive a boat to complete the online training available and take an approved boating safety exam to obtain a TWRA-issued wallet Boating Safety Education Certificate. Another option to improve your knowledge of boating safety is to watch the video available at https://www.rentalboatsafety.com/power-boats and take an online assessment to test your knowledge.

As an Out of State Resident, do I need a boating license to rent a boat?

Out of State Residents born after January 1, 1989:

TWRA will accept any NASBLA (National Association of State Boating Law Administrators) approved boating safety certificate.

Out of State Residents born before January 1, 1989:

However, we encourage anyone planning to rent and drive a boat to complete the online training available and take an approved boating safety exam to obtain a NASBLA approved Boating Safety Certificate. What is the check-out process for the boat?

We recommend that guests arrive approx. 15 minutes before the start of their rental time to allow time for our check-out process.

The check-out process includes:

Checking that each registered Operator is eligible to operate the boat. A copy of a driving license and Boating License if appropriate will be required for all Operators.

Checking that all Operators and Guests on the boat are properly registered and have reviewed / signed documents and waivers.

Please note: Operators are required to review / sign a Waiver, Rental Agreement, Navigation Rules and Acknowledgments. Guests are required to review / sign a Waiver.

Before the boat leaves the dock there will be a Safety Briefing and Equipment Check

Please note: Our process requires a final electronic signature for documents for all Operators / Guests at the dock, but the Check-Out process is much faster if all Operators / Guests (including Minors) have been registered in advance and carefully reviewed all documents online. If all documents have been reviewed online prior to the rental time, a final electronic signature (along with proof of age / boating license for Operators) is all that is required at the marina.

Are pets allowed on the boats?

No pets are allowed on the boats.

Is gas included?

Gas is not included. When you pick the boat up for your rental, it will be full of fuel. When you return, our dockhands will assist you to fill up the boat at the gas dock at Pebble Isle Marina and pay for the gas used in the Ships Store.

Customers are prohibited from bringing gas cans onboard the boat and are not allowed to refuel the boat from cans, as this can be highly dangerous. 

On a full day rental, if the boat is run continuously, it will use more than a tank of gas during the rental period. Variables like weight, water current and wind conditions all impact fuel efficiency. Customers should monitor the fuel gauge on the boat continuously and are encouraged to refuel the boat at any marina. There will always be a final top-up of fuel at the end of the rental at Pebble Isle Marina.

How many people do your boats hold?

The Coast Guard plate allows up to 12 people / 2,000 pounds maximum weight on the boat. You will not be allowed on the boat if your party exceeds those numbers.

What should I bring?

Renters should bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

The boat does have a bimini top, but does not provide shade in every area of the boat. We recommend bringing hats / clothing to cover up from the sun when you need to.

Renters should bring a cooler with a supply of cold drinks.

Can I tow a tube?

Our rental boats include a tow bar. Renters are only allowed to tow tubes supplied by Pebble Isle Boat Rentals. Tubes are available to rent at time of reservation, or can be added at check-in.

We do not allow skiing, wakeboarding or surfing behind our boats.

For safety reasons, rental boats are not allowed to tow another boat, and cannot be towed by another boat unless it is being towed by the Marina’s TowBoat US service. Renters are provided with emergency contact information in the event a tow is needed.

Is fishing permissible from the boat?

Our pontoon boats are not purpose built for fishing. If you are intent on a full day of fishing, we recommend finding a boat rental company that hires boats specifically designed for fishing. We do allow fishing from the boat, as we recognize that some customers may want to try fishing during a day on the lake. However, fishing with live bait can leave a lot of mess on a pontoon boat and we request that customers keep the boat clean. In the event the boat is returned excessively dirty, management reserves the right to assess an additional minimum $50 fee for cleaning the boat at the end of the rental.

How much does it cost to reserve a boat?

50% Payment is required to reserve a boat, with the balance due on the day of Check-In.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations made within 24 hours of rental time forfeit entire fee

Cancellations made less than 14 days but more than 24 hours from rental time forfeit $100 plus booking / transaction fees of total fee

Cancellations made more than 14 days from rental time receive full refund less booking / transaction fees.

What is the weather policy?

Weather cancellations/reschedules will be decided solely at the discretion of the management of Pebble Isle Boat Rentals, normally the morning of the rentals. If it is deemed truly unsafe to be out on the water, PIBR will work with Renters to either reschedule reservations or give prorated refunds.

Are life jackets provided?

Life jackets are provided for all adults and children that will be aboard the boat. 

The boat includes a set of adult universal size Life Jackets that cover chest sizes from 30” – 52”.

We will provide additional Life Jackets for children, but need your help to plan for child size life jackets. At the time of booking, we require details of the number of all adults, as well as children to be aboard in the following sizes:

Infant / Toddler (0-30 pounds)

Child (30-50 pounds)

Youth (50-90 pounds, Chest 25”-29”)

Teen (Chest 28”-32”)

Please appreciate that the life jackets provided will have been used by other boaters.

If you prefer to use your own Life Jacket(s) please bring them along. Alternatively, if you prefer a brand new Life Jacket, we do sell new OBrien Life Jackets in the Ships Store in a variety of sizes.

Do you provide insurance?

Renter is responsible for damage and liability while on a boat rental. To reduce risk for customers, the Base Rental Price includes a level of Renter's Insurance coverage.

Insurance coverage provided by VQuip Insurance Agency includes:

$50,000 Liability: Damage to other vessels or injury to another party that is not a family member of the insured.

$1,500 Damage Waiver: Provides coverage for damages caused to the rental vessel up to $1,500.

$500 Emergency Towing: Additional costs for emergency services including towing your vessel if inoperable, delivery of fuel or other similar expenses associated with an emergency response.

A summary of the renter's insurance coverage is provided by email after reserving a boat. A copy of the insurance policy is provided by email when coverage is bound at check-out of the boat. The policy is in the name of the primary renter and directly with the insurance company. In the unfortunate event that renter is responsible for any charges for damages / liability, if quantifiable immediately renter pays those charges at the end of rental and subsequently submits a claim for reimbursement of costs covered by the insurance policy. It's possible that the cost of damages / liability may not be quantifiable until later, in which case the Marina will communicate costs as soon as possible and also provide assistance with an insurance claim if required.

Boats and boating equipment can be expensive. To be transparent, we include a listing of equipment and towing costs in the Marina Store. For example, replacing a propellor can cost $350, a tube can cost $300, Towing costs $225 an hour (minimum 30-minute charge), fenders with fasteners can cost $50 and damaging the boat itself can run into $’000s. For peace of mind, a level of renter's insurance coverage is included with your rental.

Kentucky Lake Boat Rental Term and Conditions:

Rental Terms

Rental Security Deposits & Insurance

• All rentals require a daily insurance charge of $50 OR a refundable cash deposit.
• If insurance is not purchased, a refundable damage deposit is required at time of rental
• The renter agrees to pay a non-refundable insurance policy fee of $50.  This insurance policy has a $500 deductible.  Any damage under $500 the renter will pay 100% of the costs to repair.  The total out-of-pocket maximum for the renter is $500.
• Bass Boats: $200.00
• Pontoons: $300.00
• Tri-Toon: $400.00
• The damage deposit is refundable upon return of the watercraft and/or equipment, minus any fuel and/or damage.

Rental Times, Early Returns & Rental Seasons

• “Half-day” rentals run from 8AM – 12PM, or from 12:30PM – 4:30PM.
• “Full-day” 8-hour rentals run from 9AM – 5PM.
• All boat rentals need to be returned to the marina daily except for multi-day options.
• Peak Season: May 26th – Sept. 8th | Off-season: April 1st – May 25th, Sept. 9th – Oct. 31st
• No refunds or prorated time will be allowed for watercraft that are returned early.  In the event the watercraft is called to return due to weather, prorated refunds will be offered if the watercraft is returned more than 90 minutes before the scheduled return time.

• Advance reservations are for 8-hour rentals ONLY. 4-hour rentals & water toy rentals are available for walk-ins ONLY – first come, first served.

• Boat deposit – bass boats, regular pontoons are $100.  Tritoons are $150.
• If the reservation is canceled 30 days prior to guest’s arrival date, 80% of the original deposit will be refunded to guest within 2 weeks time.  Less than 30 days, the deposit is neither refundable or transferable.
• Prices advertised are off-season on boats.  Peak season pricing (May 24 – September 6) pontoons may be $25-$50 per day higher and disclosed at booking.
• Prices are subject to change at anytime without notice.
• Cancellations due to equipment issues will result in a full refund.
• Holidays and holiday weekends are non-refundable and do not quality for rescheduling.
• No Calls or No Shows – deposits will be forfeited. 

Weather Policy

• All weather cancellations are made by King Creek Marina and are made the day of the reservation only.
• Cancellations due to severe weather will be offered to reschedule or a full refund minus a credit card fee of 4%. 
• We do not cancel for overcast or light rain. 
• We base our decision on guest safety. 
• Weather cancellations are made the day of the reservation only.

Rescue Fees

We will provide and walk you through a full detailed map of our main 10-mile operations area, which is 5 miles north and 5 miles south of King Creek Marina.  If anything happens to the rental in the operations area, we will come get you free of charge (unless in designated no-go zones).  If you are outside the operations area, a rescue fee will be charged.  All fees will be reviewed during the map walk-through.

Safety Precautions

• Renter and operator MUST be 25 years or older on Pontoons, 21 years or older on bass fishing boats.
• All rentals include life jackets and safety equipment.
• Renter/Operator MUST provide a lifejacket for any children weighing 50 lbs. or less.
• Lifejackets must be provided by the guest for infants over 18 pounds
• No infants under 18 pounds are allowed on King Creek’s boats.
• All kids must wear a lifejacket at all times.
• Pets must wear a lifejacket.  King Creek does not provide lifejackets for pets.
• Only one pontoon is pet-friendly.  Please contact us for details.

Upstairs, guests will find a bathroom with a shower and two bedrooms, each with a Queen-size bed. Downstairs, guests will find one bedroom with a King-size bed and a full bath. Head outside to your private porch and take in the scenic views of the harbor, lighthouse, and views of Kentucky Lake.

Prepaid credit cards are not accepted. PET POLICY:  No pets are allowed in most cottages or guest rooms. A $150 cleaning fee will be charged for cottages not designated “pet-friendly”. Pets, with restrictions, are allowed in designated cottages only. Two pets per cottage, not to exceed 50 lbs each. The pet fee per stay reflects $80 for  S1  and  S2 , $90 for  N1 , and $100 for  N2 . $300 pet damage fee.  NO SMOKING:  Reports by our staff of tobacco smoke odor inside the unit will result in an additional cleaning/deodorizing fee of $150 and will be automatically charged to your credit card. DAMAGES:  Your unit is inspected and inventoried by our staff prior to your arrival. Upon departure, your unit will again be inspected and inventoried. We reserve the right to charge the credit card on file for any damages or losses incurred during your stay. MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY:  The maximum number of guests per cottage is based on our units’ capacity to comfortably and safely accommodate our guests. If unapproved and maximum occupancy is exceeded, you will be asked to vacate the property and forfeit any rental payments. MINIMUM STAY:  All advance reservations must be three nights or longer from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. Three-night minimum for Quilt Week, Hunter’s Moon Festival, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year. Two-night minimum in place for the rest of the year. CHECK-IN TIME:  You can check in between 3 and 5 pm. LATE ARRIVAL:  If you know that you will be arriving after 5 pm, a Late Arrival Form will be sent to you which must be completed and returned before your reservation arrival date. On your arrival day, please call Lighthouse Landing before 4 pm for instructions. At that time, the balance of your reservation will be charged to your credit card. CHECK-OUT TIME:  You must check out by 11 am or earlier. In fairness to everyone, check-out time must be strictly observed. Our cleaning crew frequently has several rental units to clean on the same day and must have enough time to get them all ready by 3 pm. Late departure must be approved.

CANCELLATIONS: Refund of deposit, less a 20% cancellation fee, will be made if a cancellation is received 30 days prior to arrival date. Your deposit is non-refundable if cancellation is less than 30 days prior to arrival unless we are able to re-sell your reserved nights. If we re-sell your nights, you can choose to transfer your deposit to a Gift Certificate valid for six (6) months with a 10% cancellation fee or a refund less the 25% fee. Special promotional reservations will not be eligible to move reservation dates, refunds, or gift certificates. Requests to move or modify an existing reservation will be charged a 10% cancellation fee of the deposit.
