Davenport IA is a Mississippi River cruise port and city in the USA's Iowa State (Quad Cities Metro Area / Northwest Illinois and Southeast Iowa). The region consists of 4 counties - Iowa's Davenport and Bettendorf, and Illinois' Moline and Rock Island. Quad Cities' metropolis has population around 400,000 and total area approx 170 mi2 (400 km2).

Davenport has population around 105,000 (metro around 185,000). The city is located halfway between Chicago (175 mi / 280 km to the east via HIghway I-88E) and Des Moines (167 mi / 270 km to the west via Highway I-80W). The city is also on the Iowa-Illinois state border (crossing over the Centennial Bridge) and prone to seasonal flooding. Davenport is popular with its annual music festivals and large sports events, the largest of which are the Mississippi Valley Blues- and Fair festivals, the Bix Fest (Beiderbecke Jazz Festival), River Roots Live, Beaux Arts Fair, Bix 7 (road race). The city is a great destination for biking, having 20+ mi (30+ km) of recreational paths.

The city's economy is heavily based on manufacturing, with Davenport Works (plant of John Deere/machinery manufacturer) being the city's largest and Quad Cities' second-largest employer (after Rock Island Arsenal / on Arsenal Island/Rock Island Illinois). Other well-developed industries are healthcare and tourism.

In 2021, the city repaired the seawall and started works to extend the riverwalk and the esplanade that runs the River Heritage Park's entire waterfront length. The extended promenade now features a decorative walkway, benches, new lighting.

For 2022 were scheduled visits by large boats operated by 3 cruise companies ( ACL-American Cruise Lines , AQSC/AQV-American Queen Voyages and Viking ), in some days anchoring simultaneously along the seawall.

Experience Our World-Renowned Mississippi River

Let’s start by acknowledging that this is one big, bad river. The Mississippi River is the 4th longest river in the world and the 2nd longest river in North America. Did you know our section of the river actually-flows East to West in the Quad Cities? Just one of the many fun facts  about the Quad Cities.

The river is 2,341 miles of power and beauty and it is vital to our existence. It is a barge highway, water well, and recreational space. The upper Mississippi generates over $250 billion in commerce each year and the entire length of the river generates over $400 billion. Barges and their tows move approximately 175 million tons of freight each year on the Mississippi through a system of 29 locks and dams. It also supports more than 750,000 manufacturing, agriculture and tourism jobs in 60 counties directly adjacent to the waterway.

The QC made its home on the banks of the river for manufacturing, commerce, and transportation. It is a true economic development engine. Agricultural products and huge agribusiness industries reign along the Mississippi River basin and produce 92% of the nation’s agricultural exports, 78% of the world's exports in feed, grains, and soybeans, and most of the livestock and hogs produced nationally.

Our river is an important recreational resource for our boaters, canoeists, hunters, anglers, and birdwatchers. And, it offers many outdoor opportunities, whether on the water or admiring its strength from our riverfront biking and walking trails, our bluffs and parks, and our riverfront festivals and events. Our Quad Cities bridges offer an upfront view of the Mississippi, and some unique history of their own too.

We invite you to get out and explore our world-renowned Mississippi River. Check out our favorite things to do on the Mississippi River, below, and come adventure with us!

This cruise has been a sellout every year, so don't delay your reservations!

Buy your tickets early, this cruise will sell-out!

13 years and older $149.95

Also timed to view Fall foliage, you will travel north of Lock and Dam 11, providing you with the experience of locking through a dam.

We leave our dock at 9:30 am and return around 4:00 pm. Keep in mind that a boat cannot schedule a time to enter the lock, so our Captain uses his knowledge and experience to return at the right time, but circumstances could cause us to return to dock a little late.

Expect to travel to the vicinity of Cassville, WI before we return to our dock. Live music continental breakfast, hot lunch buffet, unlimited soft drinks, lemonade, iced tea, coffee, and two adult beverages included with each adult ticket.

In the event that we cannot use the lock, we will instead travel to Bellevue, IA before returning home. On this alternate route, we will not pass through a lock.

Some Useful Information

Blocked streets can cause delays.

We appreciate railroads and the hard work of their crews, but travelers need to be aware of possible driving delays due to Dubuque streets being blocked by trains. If you are approaching our location by driving northbound on US Hwy 61/151, do not take the White Street or 9th Street Exits to get to us. Both of these exits cross railroad tracks, and trains can sometimes block street traffic as long as 30 minutes. That could cause you to miss your cruise!

Instead, continue north and take the Kerper Blvd Exit.  At the traffic light, turn right, then turn left onto 16th Street.  Be in the right lane, and turn right onto Admiral Sheehy Dr, and then take the next right turn to arrive in our parking lot.  On this route, the road takes you over the railroad tracks avoiding the possibility of being delayed by a train!

Please tell us that you are bringing the little ones.

Babies are people too.

We happily let children 3 years of age and younger take a ride free of charge, but they are counted as a passenger just like paying customers.  So, when you make reservations, please inform us if you have that little bundle of joy so we can add them to our passenger list!

If you are not vaccinated, we strongly encourage you to do so, however, at this time the Riverboat Twilight does not ask for proof of vaccination. Mask wearing is the choice of the individual. The Twilight offers ample indoor and outdoor seating on all three decks and plenty of fresh air.

We will continue to maintain our increased sanitization efforts of the TWILIGHT and our boarding facilities, and we continue to provide hand sanitizer aboard the boat and employ a strong air purifier that uses UVC lighting that has been proven to destroy viruses and other bacteria.

For the safety of our passengers and crew and to maintain proper cleanliness, we have implemented the following guidelines for parents of children under the age of 14. While onboard the vessel and when making use of our food and beverages services, children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. With your cooperation and understanding, we will be able to continue to offer a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

As an owner, of the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Le Claire, IA and the President of Great Lakes Management Group which manages the hotel’s day to day operations, I wanted to say thank you. The business relationship with the Riverboat Twilight and her passengers is valued and much appreciated. We all know businesses from every industry has been operating in a different environment the last 8 weeks and will encounter new changes in the future.

We continue to monitor the franchise, local, state and federal safety guidelines to insure our guest and staff safety. For example, we anticipate a few changes in the near future which will include the following: a plastic shield / barrier at the front desk check,  revised breakfast offerings without a buffet setting, hand sanitizer located in the lobby and all floors at the elevator landings, continued use of hospital grade products to clean and sanitize the guest rooms, individual sanitizer wipes as an in-room amenity, removal of all products in the rooms that are reusable for example, pens, pads, laundry bags, and throw pillows, these items will be available upon request. We hope to see you soon. Stay safe and healthy!

Davenport riverfront transformation gains major momentum

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - A nearly $16 million project that would transform downtown Davenport’s riverfront is gaining momentum after years of planning.

The Davenport City Council voted Wednesday to approve plans for the Main Street Landing project, which allows the city to start receiving bids to turn the area into a recreation destination.

Clay Merritt, the city’s director of engineering and capital projects, said building out the full riverfront has been in the works for over 20 years.

One reason the city can move forward is because the space is now available, Merritt said. There was other infrastructure in place, including a casino riverboat.

“There was the dock restaurant that was demolished as well,” he said. “So basically, what we’ve done is prepped and cleaned the site, ready to go.”

The park, according to city council documents , will include a multi-use court space and ice rink, a play tower, roller dam play features and an interactive water feature along with a natural area, overlooks and a restroom facility.

“The lot underneath the Skybridge will actually start where we’re building a pedestrian bridge up and over,” Merritt said.

The bridge will be great with increased train traffic, Merritt said. If a train is stopped, people can use it to still get to the riverfront.

City Ald.-at-large Kyle Gripp said the project is being paid for with funds from the American Rescue Plan Act, Destination Iowa, and settlement funds from Canadian Pacific.

“The opportunity to use the ARPA dollars with the Destination Iowa dollars, with the railroad dollars, and be able to pay for it without any city capital dollars is what made it happen finally,” Gripp said.

When the city council approved the multi-million-dollar deal with the railway, it hoped to use the money to accommodate the increased train traffic.

Third Ward Ald. Marion Meginnis said the goal is to have a place on the riverfront for Quad Citians to gather.

“And we would like it to have a regional attraction as well,” Meginnis said. “We want it to be something that people say, ‘Hey, let’s go to Davenport, and let’s go to Main Street Landing.’ ”

The city expects to have bids available for the city council in the fall.
