Terrifying moment 300ft superyacht crashes into smaller boat leaving passengers screaming

It might be 'rich people problems' but it's still really scary.

A pretty unnerving video shows the terrifying moment a 300ft superyacht crashed into a smaller boat, leaving its passengers screaming.

I mean imagine, you’re just minding your business, chilling on your little yacht on holiday (like I said, use your imagination) when an absolute monster of a boat comes straight at you.

A monster a whole three times bigger that is. The 90.1-meter Llurssen superyacht ‘Ice’ was cruising along off the coast of holiday hotspot Yalıkavak in Bodrum, Turkey , at the end of August when it crashed.

And dramatic viral videos show it seemingly going into 31.08-meter Numarine yacht ‘A.Mey’ at full speed.

Reportedly worth a whopping £84million , Ice went directly into the path of the smaller yacht.

The crash can be audibly heard as eyewitnesses watched on from dry land and the A.Mey ended up in chaos as the superyacht continued to seemingly push it along the water.

Superyacht Times reports that the extendable platforms at the stern of Ice may have been open. And this suggests that the whopper vessel might have been experiencing a technical or mechanical failure resulting in this scary collision.

Sources told the outlet that A.Mey was having to undergo repair work as the upper deck was ‘completely torn off’. A little unsurprisingly to those who have seen the terrifying moment, the vessel has apparently suffered ‘serious damage’.

In various viral videos the smaller boat is shown getting dragged a short distance by the front of Ice before being crazily spun around the port side of the superyacht.

And one video shared to TikTok in particular taken from onboard the A.Mey shows the sheer panic of the collision.

The Ice towers over as it gets closer and closer, ramming right into the littler boat and causing passengers to scream, shout and fall in the quake.

While many TikTok users slammed the incident as ‘rich people problems’, plenty agreed the ‘big boat is completely at fault’.

Others wrote: “Holy moly that was a huge boat that hit u guys hope everyone is ok.”

Many couldn’t understand how this could possibly have happened, which makes it likely people’s theory the A.Mey was anchored, while the Ice had a technical problem is true.

It doesn’t seem anyone has been reported as injured following this incident, but it’s clear the boat must be at least a little f**ked.

Motor Yacht

Icon is a 62.50m motor yacht, custom built in 2009 by Icon Yachts in Harlingen, Netherlands. The yacht's exterior styling is the work of Redman Whiteley Dixon, whilst her modern interior has been designed by Studio Linse.

At last month’s Monaco Yacht Show (of course, we were there—check out our exhaustive roundup of the 20 best superyachts at the show ), UK-based Sunseeker and Dutch builder Icon Yachts announced a collaboration on a new 161-foot superyacht constructed of aluminum. The Sunseeker camp looked to Icon Yachts to help it build larger yachts in metal with big-yacht amenities. Icon Yachts had set its sights on Sunseeker for its sleek styling, lifestyle know-how, and its fan base. The new yacht will be a fast-displacement hull design and will be named the Sunseeker by Icon. This new venture will be built in Icon’s yard in the Netherlands, with naval architecture, design, and engineering by Sunseeker.

The 161-foot tri-deck yacht shares classic Sunseeker lines, with an interior that can be styled to each owner’s preference via Sunseeker’s bespoke service. Guests will love the plunge pool on the main deck and the beach club with drop-down bulwarks and transom that makes for a huge space for waterside relaxation. The 161-foot Sunseeker by Icon will offer five staterooms for 10 guests, with the possibility of a 12-guest/six-stateroom configuration. Hull No. 1 is scheduled for a spring 2021 launch.

Immediately following the announcement at the Monaco Yacht Show, we sat down on the aft deck of a nearby Sunseeker yacht with Sunseeker’s sales and marketing director Sean Robertson and Icon Yachts’ CEO Jen Wartena to discuss the new collaboration.

So, is the new Project: Icon coming together with Sunseeker, and is it true that it’s going to be called Sunseeker by Icon?

Jen Wartena: Correct, yup.

Sean Robertson: Yup.

And it’s a 161?

Why did you choose to collaborate.

  SR: Well, I think the whole reason is: currently we build up to 131. In composite. It’s in fiberglass. Over the last 10 years, we’ve delivered over 40 of that size. And the problem we have is that most of those clients move on. And we lose them, they move to other brands. It’s been a very frustrating time to build these clients through the product, through the brand. And then we lose them. Somebody else benefits. Since 2014, we’ve been looking at how we can counteract that. We tried it ourselves, building in composites, up to 155 feet. But, to be honest, the market demands a metal build at that size range. They want aluminum or steel. So we started looking for partners, which is not easy. Because normally you have brands that just don’t link. They have two different ideas. Maybe even build types that don’t suit.

After a lot of searching we started talking to Icon. Their philosophy was very, very similar. In terms of building a series of yachts, they do it very efficiently, and pass on those efficiencies to clients, where it counts. That’s in the engineering, the systems, the naval architecture. The clients get a well-proven design, and then can change the bits that count for them—interiors, layouts, etc. And I think with Icon we found that partner. And maybe, Jen, you can explain …

JW: Let’s say Sunseeker stops building at 155 feet because of restrictions in their facilities. That’s where we aim to start. We’re building an 84-meter [280-foot] at the moment.

So, for us this is a fantastic bridge, and to build smaller boats, just under 5 gross tonnage.

For us it’s great to connect to Sunseeker. Sunseeker has a fantastic clientele, and we are very keen to look for all kinds of affinities between the two companies.

Which features do you think will be included in the new yacht?

JW: One of the things that’s really an Icon that we brought into the market—like with the launch of Meridien —was the beach club. And the beach club was also very important for Sunseeker. So that’s really where and also why, design-wise, why we strongly connected.

SR: The trick is, I think Jen will agree on this, that the trick in the marketplace, there are a lot of yachts out there with beach clubs that have a very compromised interior space. Or there are a lot of yachts that have a great interior space and volume but a very compromised beach club. And what Jen’s saying, working with the Sunseeker team we have managed to achieve a great combination of a fantastic interior layout—good volume, great entertaining decks, and also a standalone beach club—that I think beats the marketplace. And still staying under 500 gross tonnes, which is key for the running and registration of the yacht.

JW: Another thing that links both brands is the very cool styling. Sunseekers are very sporty looking, very fast, so it’s not just about the efficiency. But it’s really about the looks of the boat. We’ve always tried to have very clean designs, very sleek. Sunseeker’s pedigree is for power boats, you know? They are growing up. There are a lot of similarities.

What about styling?

SR: Well, I think what this will give us is, although we’re starting at the top end of this, this will lead to a new look for the Sunseeker yachts . It’s an evolution of a look, so you know there’s a lot of Sunseeker in this. If you look at the 131, you can see the family resemblance, but it’s evolving to the next step.

It’s a modern version?

SR: Yeah. There’s the lengthening of the waterline to give better efficiency that Jen said, keeping that quite aggressive look was key in this. But you’ll see this now coming through the Sunseeker family of product.

Is that true all the way down the line?

  SR: It will come down in the next coming years, you’ll see a striking resemblance.

Is this partnership across all sizes, or is this the 161 and moving up?

SR: 161 and moving up. But we’re two brands that absolutely understand each other. I could give you a very good quick one. The first time I went to Harlingen [Netherlands] to meet with Jen, with our team, they had already pre-prepared a design, a look. And I remember looking at that and, tell you what. . .  If you overlay that, it’s not far away from what you see there today.

They were reading your mind a little bit?

SR: There’s already a great symmetry there.

JW: We understand.

SR: . . . that started the relationship.

So this is the 161; where do you go from there? How many do you think you’re going to do?

SR: I think this is the first step to a fast displacement, so take into the account the latest regulations that come in, which we have to do—you know, the smaller engines, stricter emission regulations. Next step, we need to talk. We’re already talking. It will ultimately be larger. And it will be driven by kind experience. So, let’s get the clients excited here. And let’s start the next chapter.

When the first few buyers of this one have outgrown their yacht, or they’ve had it for a year and they say, “Oh this is so cool but we want bigger,” what then?

JW: We can build up to 150 meters. We can build a Sunseeker 161 meters.

SR: You’ve got room to grow. And what we’ve always done, what Jen’s always done, you can’t look at one step. You’ve gotta think a few ahead. Because that’s how the clients think. They don’t just think about the next boat, they think, “What am I gonna do after that?”

JW: We are looking at developing under 500 GT, around 800, and around 1,200. Around 1,200 we have built three: Baton Rouge , Icon , and Party Girl . So that is the platform that’s ready to go.

Thinking of the Robb Report reader, is there anything someone who is not already a superyacht yachtie would want to know about this combination?

SR: This is the ultimate lifestyle. What clients want is exactly what you’ve said, a lifestyle. So as a whole, you gotta love the yacht. You’ve gotta look at it and say, “I want that.” Once you get past that step, the systems, how the boat runs—that side of it, the technical side of it just has to work. All the client is interested in is that when he steps on board, presses a button, or asks the captain to go to Nassau, that it works.

SR: That side we can deliver.

SR: The more complicated step is the lifestyle. And that’s where the beach club, the stabilization, the layout of the yacht

JW: Well, that’s also a very typical Sunseeker. This area in the front here [forepeak lounging area].

SR: This is about getting on a yacht. And if you imagine, this is your floating villa, transporting you anywhere you want in the world. It could be in the Med, it can be in the Bahamas, it can be in the Florida Keys, up in the Northeast in the summer. It’s fantastic. It has to have all of those comforts that people are used to.

What about interior design? Is there someone that Sunseeker and Icon would work with that would give clients the choice of layout, textures, and so on? Are they able to choose their own designer?

JW: I think it’s very much in line with what Sunseeker does on the 131. If there’s a pre-developed interior design, then there is some flexibility to play with.

SR: We work with Design Unlimited. For our superyacht designer, we have a style of furniture that’s pretty evolved into three distinct looks—which probably covers 90 percent of requests. Once you have the look, then the client has full flexibility for choosing individual materials, hard surfaces, and the layout to some degree.

JW: And we’re building in some options—pre-fabricated, pre-thought variations, very much listening to Sean’s ideas, and some stuff that came from our own experiences in these sizes. So we have a four-guest layout and a five-guest layout on the lower deck. . .

SR: The trick is to give a client that feeling that he is totally bespoke an interior, without totally bespoke an interior. Because when you do that, for the clients, the costs go through the roof. And they can end up with something at the end that they don’t like. I think that’s a real danger of a totally bespoke yacht is trying to do it from a piece of paper is very difficult. I think what we can bring together is, you’re giving good guidance to a client, to deliver them something which really does work for them. Especially in functionality and in the look.

How long until we see the first product?

JW: Summer of 2021.

SR: It’s a two-year build at this size range.

JW: We’ve done a lot of work already. A design is already being developed. Now we are ready to start building. We have reserved a slot.

MY ICON will be normally cruising in the West Mediterranean during summer season and in the East Caribbean in the winter months. 1 February, 2011   / Today is the 80th anniversary of the birth of Boris Yeltsin, the first president of Russia. President Medvedev today unveiled a monument to Yeltsin in his home city Ekaterinburg. First one in Russia.

History of Yekaterinburg

Foundation of yekaterinburg.

The territory along the Iset River, which served as a convenient transport route from the Ural Mountains deep into Siberia, has long attracted settlers. The oldest of the currently discovered settlements on the territory of present Yekaterinburg was located next to the Palkinsky Stone Tents rock massif and dates back to the 6th millennium BC.

From the 7th-3rd centuries BC, ancient metallurgists who mastered the smelting of copper lived in this settlement. Copper figures of birds, animals, people, arrowheads, various household items were found here. Later they learned how to make iron products. All discovered settlements were destroyed as a result of fires, possibly during raids of the conquerors.

The territory occupied by present Yekaterinburg became part of Russia in the middle of the 17th century. At that time, it had practically no permanent population. The first Russian settlements were founded in the second half of the 17th century. At the beginning of the 18th century, the first ironworks were built here.

In the spring of 1723, by decree of Emperor Peter I, the construction of the largest iron-making plant in Russia began on the banks of the Iset River. Construction began on the initiative of Vasily Tatishchev (a prominent Russian statesman). He was supported by Georg Wilhelm de Gennin (a German-born Russian military officer and engineer), on the initiative of which the fortress plant was named Yekaterinburg in honor of Empress Catherine I (Yekaterina in Russian), the wife of Peter I.

More Historical Facts…

The historic birthday of Yekaterinburg is November 18, 1723. On this day, a test run of the plant equipment was carried out. Its main products included iron, cast iron, and copper. In 1725, the Yekaterinburg Mint began production on the territory of the fortress and became the main producer of copper coins in the Russian Empire. Until 1876, it produced about 80% of the country’s copper coins. In the 1720s, the population of Yekaterinburg was about 4,000 people.

In the middle of the 18th century, the first ore gold in Russia was discovered in this region, which was the beginning of the gold industry in the country. As a result, Yekaterinburg became the center of a whole system of densely located plants and began to develop as the capital of the mining region, which spread on both sides of the Ural Range.

In 1781, Catherine II granted Yekaterinburg the status of a county town in the Perm Governorate. The population of the town was about 8,000 people. In 1783, the town received a coat of arms depicting an ore mine and a melting furnace, which symbolized its mining and metallurgical industries (similar images are depicted on the current coat of arms and flag of Yekaterinburg).

In 1783, the Great Siberian Road was opened - the main road of the Russian Empire that passed through Yekaterinburg. It served as an impetus for the transformation of Yekaterinburg into a transport hub and a center of trade. Thus, Yekaterinburg, among other towns of the Perm Governorate, became the key town for the development of the boundless and rich Siberia, the “window to Asia”, just as St. Petersburg was the Russian “window to Europe.”

In 1808, the Yekaterinburg plant was closed, and the history of the town entered a new stage related to the development of a large regional center with a diversified economy. At the beginning of the 19th century, the gold mining industry flourished. At the same time, deposits of emeralds, sapphires, aquamarines, diamonds, and other precious, semiprecious, and ornamental stones were discovered in the Urals. Yekaterinburg became one of the world centers for their artistic processing.

After the abolition of serfdom in 1861, the mining industry of the Urals experienced a severe crisis, a number of plants were closed. In 1878, the first railway was constructed across the Urals and connected Yekaterinburg with Perm. In 1888, the Yekaterinburg-Tyumen railway was built, and in 1897 - the railway to Chelyabinsk, which provided access to the Trans-Siberian Railway. Yekaterinburg became a major railway junction, which contributed to the development of the local food industry, especially flour milling. In 1913, the population of Yekaterinburg was about 69,000 people.

Yekaterinburg in the first years of Soviet power

On November 8, 1917, Soviet power was established in Yekaterinburg. On April 30, 1918, the last Russian emperor Nicholas II and his family members with a few servants were transported from Tobolsk to Yekaterinburg. They were placed in the “House of Special Purpose”, the mansion of engineer Nikolai Ipatiev requisitioned for this purpose, and transferred under the supervision and responsibility of the Ural Regional Soviet.

In July 1918, units of the White Siberian army approached Yekaterinburg, under this pretext the leadership of the Ural Regional Soviet decided to shoot the imperial family. On the night of July 16-17, 1918, it was done in the basement of the Ipatiev House.

10 days later, units of the Czechoslovak Legion entered Yekaterinburg. Over the next 12 months, it was under the control of anti-Bolshevik forces. On July 14, 1919, the Red Army reoccupied the city. Soviet authorities and the Yekaterinburg Province with a center in Yekaterinburg were restored. In 1920, the population of the city was about 94,400 people.

The political center of the Urals moved from Perm to Yekaterinburg. In 1923, Yekaterinburg became the administrative center of the vast Ural Oblast, which in size exceeded the territory of the present Ural Federal District of Russia. In 1924, the city council decided to rename the capital of the new region to Sverdlovsk - in honor of Yakov Sverdlov, a Bolshevik party administrator and chairman of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee.

Sverdlovsk - a Soviet industrial giant

During the years of Stalin’s industrialization, Sverdlovsk was turned into a powerful industrial center. The old factories were reconstructed and new large factories were built, including giant machine-building and metal processing plants. In 1933, the construction of the future flagship of Soviet engineering (Uralmash) was completed. The population of Sverdlovsk grew by more than 3 times, and it became one of the fastest growing cities in the USSR.

January 17, 1934, Ural Oblast was divided into three regions - Sverdlovsk Oblast with a center in Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk Oblast with a center in Chelyabinsk, and Ob-Irtysh Oblast with a center in Tyumen. By the end of the 1930s, there were 140 industrial enterprises, 25 research institutes, 12 higher educational institutions in Sverdlovsk. In 1939, the population of the city was about 425,500 people.

Along with other Ural cities, Sverdlovsk made a significant contribution to the victory of the USSR in the Second World War. In total, more than 100,000 residents of the city joined the Red Army. 41,772 people didn’t return from the war: 21,397 - killed in battles, 4,778 - died from wounds in hospitals, 15,491 - went missing, 106 - died in prisoner of war camps.

Sverdlovsk became the largest evacuation point, more than 50 large and medium enterprises from the western regions of Russia and Ukraine were evacuated here. During the war years, industrial production in Sverdlovsk grew 7 times.

After the war, this city became the largest center for engineering and metalworking in Russia. During the Cold War, Sverdlovsk, as a key center of the defense industry, was practically closed to foreigners. In 1960, in the sky above the city, Soviet air defense shot down the U-2 spy plane of the US manned by Francis Gary Powers.

On January 23, 1967, a millionth resident was born in the city and Sverdlovsk became one of the first Russian cities with a population of more than 1 million people. In 1979, Sverdlovsk was included in the list of historical cities of Russia.

On October 4, 1988, a serious accident occurred at the Sverdlovsk railway station. The train carrying almost 100 tons of explosives rolled downhill and crashed into a coal freight train. An explosion occurred, aggravated by the proximity of a large warehouse of fuels and lubricants. The funnel at the site of the explosion had a diameter of 40-60 meters and a depth of 8 meters, the shock wave spread 10-15 kilometers. The explosion killed 4 people at the station and injured more than 500 people. About 600 houses were severely damaged.

Yekaterinburg - one of the largest cities of the Russian Federation

On September 4, 1991, the Sverdlovsk City Council of People’s Deputies decided to return the city its original name - Yekaterinburg. The population of the city was about 1,375,000 people. The restrictions on foreign visitors to the city were also lifted, and soon the first consulate general was opened here - the United States of America (in 1994).

The transition to a market economy led to a reduction in production at industrial enterprises, inert giant plant found themselves in a particularly difficult situation. In 1991, the construction of the television tower was stopped. The city was flooded with chaotic small retail trade in temporary pavilions and markets. These years were the heyday of organized crime, Yekaterinburg became one of the “criminal capitals” of Russia. The economic situation began to improve by the end of the 1990s.

In 2000-2003, the Church on Blood in Honour of All Saints Resplendent in the Russian Land was built on the site of the Ipatiev House in Yekaterinburg. In 2008-2009, the Koltsovo Airport was reconstructed. In June 15-17, 2009, SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) and BRIC (Brasilia, Russia, India, China) summits were held in Yekaterinburg.

In 2015, the Presidential Center of Boris Yeltsin, the first president of Russia, was opened in Yekaterinburg. On March 24, 2018, the abandoned unfinished television tower was dismantled. It was the tallest building in the city (almost 240 meters) and became one of the symbols of Yekaterinburg. 4 matches of FIFA World Cup 2018 were played in Yekaterinburg.

Today, Yekaterinburg is the largest center of attraction not only of Sverdlovsk Oblast, but also of the surrounding regions. By some socio-economic indicators, this city ranks third in Russia, after Moscow and St. Petersburg. Yekaterinburg is located in the floodplain of the Iset River on the eastern slope of the Middle Urals in Asia, near its border with Europe, about 1,800 km east of Moscow. Since the Ural Mountains are very old, there are no significant hills in the city.

This relief was a favorable condition for the construction of the main transport routes from Central Russia to Siberia (the Siberian Route and the Trans-Siberian Railway) through Yekaterinburg. As a result, it has become one of the most strategically important centers of Russia, which still provides a link between the European and Asian parts of the country.

Yekaterinburg is located in the border zone of temperate continental and continental climates. It is characterized by a sharp variability in weather conditions with well-defined seasons. The Ural Mountains, despite their low height, block the way to the masses of air coming from the west from the European part of Russia.

As a result, the Middle Urals is open to the invasion of cold Arctic air and continental air of the West Siberian Plain. At the same time, warm air masses of the Caspian Sea and the deserts of Central Asia can freely enter this territory from the south.

The city has a rather unfavorable environmental situation due to air pollution. In 2016, Yekaterinburg was included in the list of Russian cities with the worst environmental situation by this indicator. Car emissions account for more than 90% of all pollution.

Yekaterinburg ranks third in Russia (after Moscow and St. Petersburg) in the number of diplomatic missions, while their consular districts extend far beyond Sverdlovsk Oblast, and serve other regions of the Urals, Siberia, and the Volga region.

In terms of economy, Yekaterinburg also ranks third in the country. It is one of the largest financial and business centers of Russia. The main branches of production: metallurgical production and metalworking, food production, production of electrical equipment, electronic and optical equipment, production of vehicles, production of machinery and equipment, chemical production.
